I did the update, not sure how big it is or whats different. Still 4.4.2

The question is what well happen to the root if installed.

I'm rooted and the update failed for me. I don't know if it was root that caused it to fail or the fact that I changed my build.prop to reflect SM-G900A. Either way, doesn't seem a big enough deal to me to "fix" it for the update.

I'm using the KoolKit Active variant as my rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...m-koolkit-s5-koolactive-v1-0-0b01-07-t2809957)
I take it trying to perform this update would be a bad idea.

Just updated. New Baseband Version G870AUCU1ANG. Kernel is 3.4.0-2304514. Build Number: KOT49H.G870AUCU1ANG3. Android Version 4.4.2.
I thought this might be 4.4.4. By the way, I lost ROOT when I did this. Will have to see what is needed to restore it.

Just tried to re-install Towelroot. No Dice. It says the device isn't supported.....darn.

the exploit that geohot used for towelroot has now been patched, so if you apply this update you will no longer be able to root your device. unfortunately this was bound to happen, there are a couple of apks to look for the main one to freeze or delete is the localFota.apk (i think thats the correct name) this should prevent the ota from being recieved by your device. if you are running a a custom rom (either mine or nickoftyme's) the OTA should not apply. Technically it shouldnt apply at all if you are rooted in any fashion but apparently AT&T in their infinite wisdom found away to screw with us once again.

Geohot did say that they were going to patch...and now it's happened...
Block those OTA's people...
We may never see root again...so thanks for nothing AT$T....
rotten azzhats...g

So if I turn on wifi will it update automatically? Its been asking since this morning.

The update installed on mine, I lost root as well even though OTA Survival Mode was turned on.
On the brightside Visual Voicemail is fixed but I want my root back.

Most likely yes....unless you freeze the "ATT UPDATES" apk by using titanium backup...
You may want to freeze the following as well...
Local fota
Security policy updates
Samsung push service
With those 4 frozen...you should not see an update prompt again...g

UGH... sux.
I was hoping to root my phone tonight. I downloaded Towelroot and can open it but "Install" is not clickable.
I received the ATT update on Friday.

I don't know about anyone else but my update came down the other day and now my wifi sucks. It connects fine, has good strength, but is slower than dirt and loading content (browser and apps) and we have @ a 65Mbps connection.

Like a fool, I allowed the AT&T OTA update in my Galaxy S5 Active. I lost root and towelroot would no longer work as the device was no longer supported. However, I was able to use ODIN to downgrade back to ANE4. Towelroot worked again to root my device and I was able to re-install all of my Xposed modules and most importantly Titanium Backup to freeze the OTA updates.
I did have to do a factory reset after downgrading because my stock email app repeatedly crashed afterward. But all is well with the world once again.

Where did you download the ANE4 rom?
Edit: found it! http://rootzwiki.com/topic/202682-how-to-restore-your-att-s5-active/

Ha! I nixed that in the bud before it began. Damned ATT.

first off I'll admit I'm as new as new can be to Android. I got an s5, rooted it in hopes of getting WiFi tethering again (after years of a jailbroke Iphone) and to get rid of the emergency number I kept butt calling. . neither of these worked for me so I went ahead and updated. it said the installation failed twice but my software is now up to date. still rooted. . not sure what is going on. I'll check for the software update again tomorrow

Root SGH-I537 with APK - Towelroot

Geohot released towelroot today for the verizon and AT&T variant s5, this root also works with the ATT s4 active on NE3 which is the latest OTA.
Only issue is that you cannot update SUbinary however you can grant superuser permissions to programs like root explorer, busybox etc.
Get a hold of it @ towelroot.com
I just rooted my ladies phone yesterday and have Safestrap installed .
The thing that bugs is the inability to update superuser.
: edit
I just used Safestrap recovery to flash supersu in the stock slot and am up to date.

If anyone can find a way to update SU and then explain it to me like I'm 5, that would be wonderful. I just tried to fix it buy giving SU some extra permissions, and accidentally threw my phone into a boot-loop when I accidentally removed all "execute" permissions from the /system folder. Oops, should have paid attention to what the hell I was doing. Oh well, easily enough fixed by flashing all the ML2 ODIN files (except bootloader) and then updating with the OTA ML2 ---> NE3 file dropped onto an SD Card.
Still, I'm just going to let it bother me so I don't have to go through all that again.

I read somewhere on this site that someone pulled the APK file from the superuser.zip file and it installed. I do not have SU installed since wiping my phone and installing 4.3 and 4.4.2 ota stock. So I would like to know if I can simply install root.apk and the SU.apk??? I also heard a rumor on this site that 4.4.3 is due out in a month or so.
I knot the root.apk from towelroot.com worked great on my phone, just every time I open SU or SuperSU it complains about outdated binaries, but the binary update fails when I try it. Hmm...
---------- Post added at 08:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:24 AM ----------
An update for SuperSU just came through the play store that fixed it.
Just did mine worked great!

You can do it that way but if you changed any of the system files or deleted anything in there, you would not be able to have complete stock back. THE best way to get stock everything back is to odin flash NE3 which you can find the files over in the stock firmware collection thread. Oh and also make sure you have Safestrap disabled if you had that enabled.

Can anyone confirm this?
I used to have a bootloader unlocked S5 (t-mobile). I got rid of it and got a Cricket device recently.
The Cricket ROM is arleady one of the least bloated ROMs I have used. I tried the Galaxy S5 Lollipop ROMs (TW and CM12) and none of them were really any better than the stock for me. Seems like I have better service on my current device/ROM than I used to get on the T-mobile one and certainly has less FC's. Actually, the only thing I miss from it is the the ability to tether.
I just like to have the option if I would choose to take it later. : )
First since I was in disbelief I just flashed ktoonsez tw 4.4 kernel to the tw ROM I was using (unity). Rebooted and sure enough it worked without a hitch. So I downloaded "fusion" ROM based off 5.0.2 lollipop and to my delight it works 100%... It's literally like I was reunited with a long lost friend (jk, sorta) but it's not buggy at all and I've had zero issues the last 24 hours.

Have you rooted it yet? Download towelroot and get er rooted
https://towelroot.com/tr.apk
Then install supersu and update the su binaries, reboot
Might as well install busybox, I don't know whether or not its necessary but I had it installed on mine
Then Install this: https://www.google.com/url?q=https:...sQFjAA&usg=AFQjCNHhKaPN_ZXs3hrzHt_xSfZRhz1ErQ
This app just needs a couple pointers , it installs twrp. Odin not necessary.
Grant it superuser permission and then click "install twrp" from slide out menu
Your device is "klte"
Get the newest non-g version, I believe 2.8.5.0
It will download&install,
Now your set

So far so good. I installed the twrp app from the playstore as you said. I had already rooted with towelroot. However I had also relagated to using the safestrap as most other sm900az users have also believing that their cricket bootloader was too in fact locked. I can confirm that the twrp app from the playstore does in fact install twrp latest version and work. I am downloading the fusion lollipop version rom in the unified development thread. First I am going to manually debloat my stock system rom with my root explorer getting rid of all knox and cricket bloatware as well as any unwanted system apps. Once I have that stable and booting without any errors or force closes then i will boot to twrp and make a backup. Next i will try and restore the backup and test it. Once that all goes well without a hitch i will try the fusion rom to see if i get all the same results. I am going to replicate step by step to be sure and confirm working status for all cricket sm900AZ users. So far though it is legit and works flawlessly. I will report back by tomorrow noon central time.
thanks for all your help and involvement.
swes013
I tested that as well..
I had to restore my tw4.4.2backup because the first time i used twrp to flash the aosp lollipop Rom, (( I believe I had accidentally installed an older version of twrp&)) I was unable to get past "unfortunately, setup has stopped"
So i had to get my phone working again, so that I could update twrp... I had a computer available but wanted to 100% do it on the phone so that I'd know for sure whether or not everything is working with backing up /restoring etc.
When you restore the stock backup, naturally it will restore safestrap along with the rom.
After I updated to the latest version of twrp, and before rebooting to recovery to reinstall fusion, I did open the safestrap app to uninstall the safestrap recovery.
I dont believe that was necessary but i figured I'd do it just in case.
Also, when in twrp, click on mounts and then "disable mtp" otherwise you won't be able to write to /system
i didnt even have to add the apn, lollipop found it for me.

So we can install pretty much any of the roms in the unified dev section as long as they are for our klte?? I love to experiment with lots of different roms. i just love exploring, testing, and searching for potential bugs/exploits.
I'd imagine so. Our phone is technically the klteaio. I think as long as the Rom is for the qualcomm chip and not exynos, then theoretically it should work.
Is there a better place this info could be posted?

Since towelroot no longer works on my rom. Or should i put safestrap back on restore my original stock backup with 4.4.2 pre june build with towelroot working and try and preserve root from there to the new Lollipop rom?? This is completely legit. The bootloader really is unlocked. If it wasn't, I wouldn't have been able to do any of this.
Read what I posted above to get it rooted and get recovery installed. Then reboot to recovery and make a full backup, which includes boot, system, and data. Then reboot back into the Rom and report back here. From then all you have to do is download a Rom with gapps, flash it, and set it up. Later ill have more time to help but like I said, read my above posts multiple times and follow the steps and then report back when you're rooted w/twrp installed AND you have made a full backup.

Alternatively, I assume one could just go to the TWRP website, download the latest 2.8.5 klte recovery image and flash with Odin.(If you wanted to use that method)
I'm caught in between liking the satisfaction of having my Knox in tact and being able to break free... Ah, decisions, decisions.
Thanks for posting pics...it's like getting to experience it through you. HAHA
hmmm..
Well im rooted however, twrp manager keeps crashing when going to choose "Device Name"
Go to the play store and install SuperSU, then run it and accept the prompt to update su binaries. Then reboot and open twrp manager again. grant su permission to twrp manager.
If still crashes, then try wiping app data+cache for twrp manager then try running it again
You could also download the recovery manually and flash via Odin if you have a computer available. I'd just do this if you tried the above suggestions and it still crashes
Lemme know and I'll hook you up with links for that

Update Failing

I just got a regular S6 through T-Mobile and for some reason, the initial update is failing. It will download (177 mb), reboot to install, get to 25%, fail, and reboot. The phone is working perfectly other than that. Any idea what I can do to fix it? Thanks.
Since you just got it, why not do a factory reset, then see if the update takes.

What firmware is listed under build number in settings?
The only things off the top of my head I can think of that would be causing this out of the box are Samsung's own phone security or a buggy phone. When trying to root some people got stuck in a boot loop, not cause of a bootloader lock, but because of some part samsung's anti malware security of whatever it is that can be disabled in settings. It was apparently turned on without them knowing. Not sure if this could happen with an official OTA but it's something you can check.
Other than calling samsung or T-mobile considering this is a bug that happened without root, you could try flashing the stock firmware with odin. Although, I can't say whether you'll still have access to the OTA or not, which is why I asked what firmware version you're on.
If it's G920TUVU1AOCG then it's the same as the stock anyway and potentially that could mean it's a bug with the update that was pushed to you seen as it's new. If it's not G920TUVU1AOCG then chances are G920TUVU1AOCG is newer and you can just flash it via odin to update.
edit: you could also try booting into recovery and clearing cache then try the ota again.
When me and my girlfriend got our S6's, hers wouldn't take the update either. It said she had a custom system....The only way I got it to take it was to odin the firmware. That's probably what you'll have to do. Out of curiosity is yours white?

The drivers are installed, Odin recognizes the device, but it just seemed frozen on the blue screen. Odin did a few things and said "started" or something and it said that for about 20 minutes before I decided that couldn't be right. Rebooted it and it went right back to normal.
Have another computer to try, just to cancel out that computer being the problem?
So its fixed now. I went to Best Buy and they have a Samsung rep there. I talked to him about it and he decided to plug it into his laptop and put the stock firmware on it (which I tried to do but it also didnt work). The build number changed slightly and now it says the phone is up to date. Here is the old and new build info:

That was very cool of him, I'm pretty sure they're not suppose to do that. To bad he didn't flash some super secret unreleased test software on it lol.

They actually are setup to do it. The Bestbuy Samsung experience shops can install firmware on any Samsung device as long as it has not been modified. They cannot reset Knox.

Well , to be honest, they should be doing all warranty work and claims and things right there as well. They have such ****ttty customer service that I'd much rather go somewhere so that I could actually discuss things in person. Kinda like......... APPLE!! That's really the only reason I keep these Crapple devices around, because they will swap out anything 4 me on a dime and it can be done in less than an hour. No 2-3-4 weeks without a phone. It seems like being 2015, Samsung should be able to compete in that sense. Oh well, Sorry, I am just daydreaming over here. :cyclops:
Anybody have a tar file that we can flash in Odin for the 5.1.1 update? I just got my phone today and it wont take the update from T-Mobile. It downloaded all the files and started installing in recovery,then it rebooted and stated the update failed. My phone is bone stock factory and has never been modified in any way. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

How to Downgrade to Root-able Version

Ok so I accidentally upgraded my phone to g925vvru2aof1 verison, and when I researched to see if I could root I found it wasn't supported. My question is, can I downgrade this version to a version that you can root? Or am I stuck on this update? Thanks in advance for your help!

The OE2 build you can downgrade.
The OF1 build you cannot.
Very sad. Very disheartening.
Have you tried this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s6-edge/development/trailblazer101-lightlycleaned-rooted-rom-t3157394
I was already rooted and couldn't take OF1 update, so I don't know if this would work for you.
Basically, odin back to OC3 or OE2 and also odin the firmware package called "Flash Me Package" by Trailblazer before rebooting the system.
This might enable you ping-pong root the OC3. but you would still be on OF1 radio.

It has already been said on many threads that it is impossible to downgrade. There is no way around it.

Are you sure? Sounds like people are saying it's possible in that thread.

How the flash me package works is it installs the OF1 radios onto the rom while maintaining the OE2 bootloader, kernel, etc.
You can not downgrade, that rom is a hybrid which lets you but the full of1 cant

G920vvru4 is it possible to downgrade ?
Hi everyone, I just wanted to tell everyone that I've discovered that root on G925V 5.1.1 (G925VVRU4BOG7) is now a reality. Some guys at easy-firmware made it possible. I have not tested it yet:

The password is fghdbnfgdfgb19545525 (really, just copy paste it). I tried it. It works. Here are the steps:
1) Put the phone in download mode (With the phone turned off press down+home+power at the same) and flash the file through Odin (using the second file, the one it says AP or PDA (depending of your version)). It takes a couple seconds. After that the phone will boot normaly. Then, if you reboot the phone, the next time you turn on the phone, you'll see a big icon of a locker but unlocked and just below it will say 'custom', just like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
(If it didn't work (you keep getting the normal boot screen), then try to flash it again until you succeed. It may take some tries.)
2) Up to that point the phone will be technically rooted, but you can't do 'root stuff' yet. So what do you do? You download the Kingroot apk (from the official site) and install it. Now you'll be able to fully use the root. The only downside; its a temporary root (every time you reboot the device you'll have to install root again from the Kingroot app)
is g925vvrs4cqa3 rootable or can i downgrade to one that is? not one post about this baseband cut ones that i made...
I downloaded the file but only have 1 file. a boot.img file Do i flash that in AP or in the BL spot in ODIN?

How to Root the Moto Z2 Force T-Mobile/Sprint

Hi everybody! Just here to let people know how to gain root on their shiny new Z2 force!
Straight and simple here's what your going to need:
Fastboot and adb installer
Download This for T-Mobile Rooted August Image For T-Mobile
Download this for Sprint Rooted August Image for Sprint
Installation Instructions
1. Make sure your on T-Mobiles latest update (August)
2. Unlocking your bootloader is a MUST!
3. Open the newly installed adb and fastboot you just installed. You should get a blank command screen.
4. Reboot your device to bootloader mode using the command adb reboot bootloader (make sure usb debugging is on)
5. On the bootloader screen your going to type the command Fastboot flash boot and LEAVE IT THERE DONT DO ANYTHING!
6. Next your going to go to the downloaded rooted august image and drag that to the command screen
7. Once that is done you should see something along the lines of "fastboot flash boot "C:\path\to\boot\Magisk_Moto_August.img"
8. Once you see that hit enter and once you see its done on the bootloader screen click start and it should boot up.
9. Once that is done download this Magisk Manager
10. Install it and BOOM you should have root!
Special thanks to:
@topjohnwu for the updated pixel magisk
@Chainfire for everything he has already done for the community.
Awesome! Today is going to go by so slowly waiting for the Sprint image lol
So, now we can work on ways to fix using third party messaging, notifications, etc? After I turned off the Moto Display the screen rarely lights up with notifications.

The T-Mobile one will work fine since it's the exact same device and once I make one tonight you can just reflash the boot img

Works! I love you person!

Awesome. Does this wipe data?
Edit: answered my own question. I took the plunge and it does not wipe. I've never used magisk before. Install via the recommended direct install? Sorry for all the questions, this is a little different than rooting my last three Xperias and I don't really want to become the first guy to brick his z2 on xda lol.
Nope
Once you flash this you should just need the manager and it should be rooted. If it's telling you to install then something went wrong

I'm guessing it's installed. I am able to backup with titanium but unable to delete bloatware (tested on Amazon app and received this error message) I'm guessing it has something to do with the r/w permissions but I'm not sure how to change them on this phone.

Hmmm. I tried both methods and both said I have been granted rewrite permissions but I still get the same error message from tibu. It's not a big deal, just strange. Adaway installed and is working fine. Those are the only two root apps I've tested.
Can you uninstall any other apps?
This is great thank you
