Hello All,
I have some trouble updating my LG Optimus 4X HD. Also know as LG P880. With Android version 4.1.2 this now installed on the phone.
I now have got root access. I am using the adb.exe tool and cm-11-20140823-NIGHTLY-p880.zip but it keep say after the upload:
(Android system recovery <3e>)
this package is for "p880"devices; this is a "x3"
I have tried differend version of CM-11. with the same result. An factory reset does not help and using ROM Manager (Premium) does not update. When I choose Reboot and Install nothing happens.
Root Checker does say that I have root access.
All the info that I can find in the phone says that it is a P880.
Can someone help me on this?
With regards,
BryanH1

Hi,
Tnx for the response. How do I update the recovery?
I am using Rom Manager Premium 5.5.3.7. There at recovery setup I have used ClockworkMod Recovery and Team Win Recovery Project. With no effect updating using ADB.exe. And using Flash ClockworkMod TouchI am getting after the download An error occurred while flashing your recovery.
And using Rom Manager Premium to download the ROM I am getting Rom Download Error. It does not matter which download I choose.
Can you help me a bite more?
By the way which Root unlocker do you recommand using? I am using an chinese one because this is the only one that I found working.
With regards,

EDIT: Problem solved!
Hi all,
I just tried to install CWM Recovery on a Samsung Galaxy GT-I9000, and it didn't work.
The phone was (originally) running under Android Froyo (2.2), and unrooted. First of all, I used UnlockRoot to root it, and it worked fine. I checked the root access right after using dedicated apps (rootChecker, sdMaid, etc), to confirm.
Then I wanted to install a ClockWorkMod recovery. I followed this guide (on the CyanogenMod wiki). I downloaded and installed Kies to have the USB drivers installed. Then I downloaded Heimdall (my computer is running under Windows 7) + hardcore CMW Kernel. I booted into download mode, then installed the driver. (Step 2 on the tutorial). Then next step was flashing the kernel. It suceeded, and the phone powered off. Turning it on, it just starts to make endless boot loops. The system won't start running, and it is not possible to access to the CWM recovery menu. But the download mode is still available.
So, does anyone have pointers to help me fix this issue ? i would like to have CMW installed, and then install a custom ROM (the latest Jelly Bean based Cyanogenmod release).
Thanks in advance.
Just try again installing stock Rom with odin
See my post Here

Hi Donovan,
Thanks for the swift answer. And yes, it definitely worked. I downloaded this stock rom, and I flashed it successfully with Odin v3 1.85. I am running now under Android 2.3.6, but I lost the root access. Rooting it won't be a problem, hopefully. I still have access to the download mode, and to the stock recovery. I'll try once again to dive into the ClockWorkMod Recovery, and then install a Jelly Bean rom.
I'm hitting the thanks button right after posting this.
Thanks back at ya. Cf root you can find here

Dont forget the wiping before flashing jb.
Most times u have 2 flash custom twice.
If first time hangs just pull battery out, get in recovery & flash second time or third if its needed.
If it says install completed then its done
Much pleasure flashing the i9000
Actually, I spoke to fast, the problem just got much worse.
Okay, just after flashing the stock rom (2.3.6), everything was fine. Then I downloaded the latest stable CM10 (direct link).
I booted into recovery mode (CWM Recovery, actually) and I did try to install (i din't not forget wiping data/cache, dalvik and batt stats), but it failed, saying the package was incorrect. I tried many times, copying again and again the zip file, same problem.
Then I downloaded a previous version, CM9. I tried to installed it, and i run into a very weird error, saying an assertion failed when trying to install the package.
Something like;
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "galaxys" || getprop ("ro.build.product") == "galaxys" ... getprop ("ro.build.device") = GT-I9000 etc...
Click to collapse
And then installation program aborts (error code 7.)
My assumption, is that it looks like my phone is no longer being considered by a samsung gt i9000, according to the installer. Weird, though...
Now, I still have access to the recovery. But the phone can't boot, as everything was wiped. Much worse, I can switch to download mode, but i can't flash back the stock rom, Odin can't detect the phone (I tried with Odin v3 1.82, 1.83 and 1.87).
I'm getting desperate, any pointers ?
Thanks in advance!
Did u try to flash the custom more then 1 time?
Oh yes, I did it like a dozen of times. And I still get the same error.

gti9000 rooting
Hi Donovan, could you help me please:fingers-crossed:
I've purchased a unlocked galaxy s gti9000 and I want to root it. Something I've never done on any phone as I'm a complete noob. I managed to install XWJW1 FIRMWARE. I've now got as follows PDA:I9000XWJW6
PHONE: I9000XWJW1
CSC: I9000XSAJV8.
All the links to the file for rooting seem to be dead. I've found some for rooting XXJVU, But that's not right is it? I would really like to try ICS or Jelly Bean. I must admit I'm nervous about this as it's taken me a while to get a phone as good as this one!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
@Nooga:There is a very complete and straightforward guide here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852546). You might want to take a look at it.
Now can we please come back on my topic ? Thanks!

Thanks Roland will give it a try tonight.
Well, that is now solved. I tried something silly that ended up working fine.
As the cm9-smtd update package couldn't run (because of the assertion fail), I just opened the zip package, then edited the file META-INF/com/android/google/updater-script.
I basically removed the assert statement at the top of the file.
CMW recovery installed it properly, without any err. I now have an ICS based rom (Cyanogen Mod 9).
Problem definitely solved now. Going to make a Nandroid backup.
Thanks all, again.
Hello, i just bought an LG Optimus 2x p-990, the first thing i did was updating to official ICS, but similar to my previous phone, i cant stand the stock rom and wanted to flash a custom one (havnt decided yet witch rom i want). After some trouble i finally rooted my phone, but now im stuck at trying to flash a new recovery. When i try flashing it through rom manager it says the device hast an official recovery yet, and when i try flashing this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098745) (note: i have usb debugging on and when i run it super user notifys that was given permision to shell) the cmd prompt opens for some seconds and closes again, and when i try to boot into recovery it goes to the stock recovery that wipes my phone.
Maybe this has been answered in here but believe me when i say i searched for the answer extensivly.
Hope i can get some help.
make it simple, install rom manager then install recovery..
I explained that i can not do it. ROM manager says the device is not listed and when i try to manually install the recovery it says permission denied.
Download and install nvflash driver(often called ATX) and install it. Then dl AIO all in one tool, from there you can install Cwm(can also be nvflashed) You can't use rom manager as it's not compatible with the new bootloader and partition table

First off, I'm assuming your phone is rooted (since you have rom manager installed). Also what ROM are you currently running?
Secondly, make sure you have clockworkmod recovery installed. You then need to reboot into recovery mode, do a factory/data wipe, wipe dalvik cache and then install the ROM .zip file (must first be placed in the sd card main directory) by selecting it under "install .zip from sd card", then "choose .zip". After the ROM installs, reboot the device.

You need a patched v20 (see my noob how to). You cant install cwm on official ics. It will always cause security errors.

V28c this file i've downloaded and installed , with smart flash tool, so i have official update 4.0.4 , and when i select reboot recovery in rom manager , the phone is rebooting and it gave me an error Security Errror
Here's the noob how-to link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487105
Read through all that applies to your device/current ROM. Read carefully and follow the instructions. That's essentially how I learned to root the P970 and play around with different ROM's.
Good luck. If you have problems ever after following the instructions, try doing a search first. As I have found out, quite often people have run into the same problem before and there is most likely a solution. It sounds like you're still pretty new to rooting and flashing ROM's so I suggest just read, read, read.
Ok , i will read that how to , and i will try to instal v20, and i will try again.Thank you very much , sorry for my english.Good luck

As NOOBY0815 said, you can't use CWR (clockwork recovery) on official ICS. You need to flash a different stock ROM (GB 2.X.X) and then it will reboot into recovery... and then you can flash a new custom ROM.

I want to root my LG OP Black P970 running official stock ICS 4.0.4. Can anyone share me the steps by step process. As I know there is no specific button to load the bootloader in this model.
You can try unlock root.
To have CWM, you must flash a patched v20 using smart flash tool.
Please read N00bys guide.

Did you have Clockwork ROM Manager (CWM) installed from the Play Store or manually? I wonder if you had the most current version?

I downloaded the latest free version of Rom Manager from play
this is because actual recoveries are incompatible with ICS firmwares and will brick your device if you try to flash a recovery. you may try this mod to unlock the bootloader for getting a working recovery

Hello folks,
I am trying to upgrade the CWM recovery from 6.0.3.6 to 6.0.4.3 to install KitKat.
However, when I try installing the zip file, the phone simply reboots from recovery during installation.
I tried ROM Manager too, but it couldn't install the latest recovery as well.
No luck with TWRP zip file as well
Anyone faced any such issue ? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
