[MOD] [BOOTLOGO] [R3] [OUTDATED-DO-NOT-USE] Customize your One's Bootlogo - ONE Themes and Apps

WARNING: Although I test every release on my own device, I hold absolutely no responibility if you mess up something.
This guide assumes, if you wish to make your own logo, that you have the newest .net framework and a decent image editor, like Adobe Photoshop, or the free variant GIMP.
THIS TOOL IS CURRENTLY NOT WORKING WITH THE LATEST CM12 LOGO. DO NOT USE IT, UNTIL I, OR SOMEONE ELSE FIXES IT!
IF YOU SOFT-BRICKED YOUR PHONE, USE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58010670&postcount=125 TO RECOVER!
Story
I saw @treChoy 's post about the red bootlogo and how we can't make our own. So I fired up HxD and started analyzing the logo.bin.
Information
I have yet to determine the offsets of all other images (like the fastboot mode logo) than the white 1+ logo, but it shouldn't be hard. Done!
What I know so far:
The logo.bin is a raw file that contains all the images.
Each image's header is 512 bytes, and always starts with SPLASH!! .
The color order is BGR.
The image contain raw hex-rgb values.
The main logo starts at 000200 and is 5EEC00 big.
The fastboot logo starts at 6E6400 and is 04CE78 big.
How-To
0.) Your Bootloader HAS TO BE unlocked.
1.) Download and install the 15 second ADB and Fastboot installer
2.) Download the attached archive and extract it to a location of your choice.
3.) You'll need 2 images. One for the fastboot-mode logo (350x300), and one for the main logo (1080x1920) (There are already ones included in the right place, just edit and you're fine!). Make sure there isn't any transparency!
4.) This is the fun part! Edit these images to your liking. (Maybe add some unicorns and rainbows and Chuck Norris and stuff )
5.) Save the 350x300 fastboot image as fastboot.png in the input folder wherever you extracted the tools.
6.) Save the 1080x1920 bootlogo image as bootlogo.png in the input folder wherever you extracted the tools.
7.) Run the OneBootLogoTools.exe by double clicking it.
8.) The program won't display anything and will close on its own.
9.) Open a cmd window in the output directory. Put your phone into fastboot mode.
10.) type fastboot flash LOGO logo-modified.bin then press enter. After the process completes, type fastboot reboot then press enter.
11.) You will now see the logo if everything went ok!
12.) ?
13.) PROFIT!
Feel free to post your creations!

R2: Make code less linear, and more object oriented, Open source Release
R3: Build for 32bit CPU, to increase supported machines

In the data folder, there's a logo-orig.bin. In a worst-case-scenario you can flash that and you're back to the stock logo. :good:

I will still be offering all this great material at my website. Just go to google and search for MobileTechVideos.
will give this a shot...
Hi,
This worked nicely for me, thanks for the mod.
Now if only we had an easier way to edit the splash screen inside the zimage to match the lfs splash it would be perfect.
For anyone that wants it, I used the simple "Google" splash that ships on the Nexus S. I've attached the file to this post.
Cheers, =)
looks good...i'll try this sometime today and see whats really good
Thanks for the feedback and the Google boot screen. I'm going to try and gather a bunch up and make a repository on the site.

I found some scattered info on this but currently the difficulty is still pretty high. Did you find a step by step solution? I'll video it if so. Otherwise I'll just develop my own method and write a script.

Hi,
No, sorry, I meant that I found that there's not really an easy solution to replacing the second static logo, since it ends up being built into the kernel.
I found a post in the captivate forums here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10851192&postcount=118
And using that script, I can generate the .h file easily enough, but I've never tried to compile a kernel before, and have run into problem after problem today trying.
Anyway, the best option would be to find an extremely nice dev, that has an automated build environment already setup and working, that would be willing to take pre-made .h files from users, and build them into custom kernel releases.
Likely too much to ask for though, lol.
Cheers, =)
Added link to new boot screen page on my website. Check it out in the bottom of the original post!
would this mess with the kernel??

No not at all. It only messes with the param.lfs partition which resides in BML6 of the phones BML structure.
Well done......... !!!!!
Is this just meant to be an alternate method to simply using root explorer and replacing the bootanimation.zip file?
That's how I replace my boot animation, and its about ten times easier and faster than this method. Of course your rom has to be one that uses a bootanimation.zip for the start up animation though.

Hi,
This isn't replacing the boot animation, its replacing the very first static "splash" screen that you see when you power on the phone.
In our case, its the black screen with the white "Vibrant" text in the middle and "samsung" at the bottom.
Please note, this splash is a 2-stage setup, one copy stored in the lfs partition (this tutorial replaces that file) and a second, built into the kernel (this is not currently possible to replace without building your own custom kernel from source.)
Hope that clears things up for you, cheers, =)

Omg! I feel like such a noob! Ugh :-[
So sorry. I guess I did not read it right and automatically assumed it was for boot animation.

Very interesting.
And while i have no way to edit the kernel image on a binary level, it's fairly easy to build into kernel.
Maybe this could be scripted into a sort of "Kernel Kitchen" type thing. (No, i suck at web coding stuff)
i need to talk to people if this can even be achieved, but it's the only way to avoid building your own kernel from source
Great Tutorial
OK just for the sake of trying this, I followed the video and it worked perfectly.
Great tutorial when even a noob like myself can follow it and feel comfortable with it. Kind of a long first boot when there is no picture and then after inserting the replacement.
Thanks

MiUI WVGA/HDPI -> qHD Lockscreen Theme Conversion

*UPDATE 4*:
Previews of existing themes are now viewable upon mouse over of the theme names.
*UPDATE 3*:
I have now turned this into a web based program hosted on my personal website. Things to know before trying it out:
-It will convert both old style themes (those with lockscreen directories instead of files) and new style themes (most themes).
-It will supply you with a download link to your converted theme and also a link to every theme that has been converted thus far. Check to see if your theme is already there before uploading it.
-Uploads and downloads from my server may be a bit slow, but considering how small most of these files are, this shouldn't be a major issue.
-The upload file size is limited to 8 MB. If you have a theme bigger than that, remove all non-lockscreen files from it and repack it before uploading it.
-The file name can not have any spaces or special characters. If it does, just rename it so that it doesn't before uploading it.
-The conversion is still not (any will never be) foolproof. There will be some cases where you'll have to go into the manifest.xml file and manually update the values that were overlooked. As it is though, it seems to fully convert ~90% of themes with no further work needed.
-If my website is not responding, send me a pm or post here.
-If you have any questions/issues, post here.
-Enjoy
Link: http://betelicious.dyndns.org/cgi-bin/converter
*UPDATE 2*:
v0.2 attached! It now takes care of all the extracting and repacking for you. You basically just feed it an mtz file and it will handle the rest. This will currently only work with *new* style themes, where the mtz contains an archive called "lockscreen". The logic is the same as before.
*UPDATE 1*
The Perl script is attached! READ THE INCLUDED README!! If you still have questions, feel free to post here or pm me.
All I ask is that you guys help each other out- If you're able to successfully use the script, help out those who can't by converting any requested themes from this thread. And please share here any themes you are able to successfully convert! Let this serve as the official qHD converted theme thread. As always, have fun and enjoy!
The easiest way to make this work properly is to follow these steps:
1.) Download cygwin from http://www.cygwin.com/setup.exe
2.) Run setup.exe.
3.) At the "Select packages" screen in the installer, search for "perl", click "Perl" to expand it, and then click on "Skip" for "perl: Larry Wall's Practical Extracting and Report Language" so that "Skip" changes to the version number, meaning it will be installed.
4.) Do the same for "perl-Image-Magick: image manipulation software suite (Perl bindings)", which should also be listed there under the expanded "Perl" section, so that it's version is displayed. Also ensure that the zip and unzip utilities are installed in the same way.
5.) Search for 'make' and select Devel->make (The GNU version of the 'make' utility) so that it too installs. You'll need this to install any modules in CPAN later.
5.) Click next and complete the cygwin installation.
6.) Open cygwin and, at the prompt type "cpan".
7.) At the cpan prompt, type "Install Image::Info"
8.) Once the Image::Info module is installed, you should be able to run the script without any errors.
Hey guys, I got tired of trying MIUI lockscreen themes only to find that they don't work with my Sensation (along with any other qHD phone). So I wrote a little Perl script to take care of most of the tedious stuff (resizing all of the images and calculating and replacing all of the x, y, w, h values within manifest.xml). This actually takes care of everything in some cases. For example I converted the Sense Ring lockscreen theme with this script and it was good to go in about 10 seconds of work.
But I want to make it clear that I will not be spending copious amounts of time fixing things that the script doesn't already fix. If it's something little, I'll try to fix it. Or if it's something big and I'm bored, I'll also try to fix it, but I'm making no guarantees!
I'm also looking into a way to automate the process by possibly hosting this script somewhere and allowing anyone to upload an mtz file and get the updated mtz back. If this is ever happens, it will not be foolproof, but it will be an enormous first step in any WVGA/HDPI -> qHD conversion. So bring on your requests!
*PLEASE INCLUDE A LINK TO THE THREAD OR WEBSITE WHERE THE THEME YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT IS LOCATED SO I DON'T HAVE TO SEARCH!!*

Fixed the last one first because it was requested by someone else too. Everything was perfect after the conversion except for the music controls. Spent a long time trying to figure out why and eventually just manually fixed it. Otherwise these are going smooth! I'll get to the rest tomorrow hopefully.
Well you made script to resize and changing values of mainfest for your phone
it will be awesome if you make script for mdpi devices as can use miui lock on it but resizing manually really time consuming

[DEV][WIP] Ubuntu Phone Preview for LG Optimus 2x (alpha)

This thread is intended for developers and others who can contribute to the project
If you think you can contribute, please do so
Standard disclaimer:
I am not responsible if anything happens to your device
Status:
Device specific build of Ubuntu's minimal cm10.1 build ready
Ready for flashing
Working:
Touch screen
ADB
Browser (Although no net access yet)
You can browse and get a feel of the entire OS, including the homescreen (unity desktop), multitasking (the cool new way to switch between apps), etc.
Since it is a preview, many apps are dummy apps.
Screenshots:
Check them out here
Video:
Here is a video of the fresh new OS in action on the O2x made by JordanRulz
Download links:
Ubuntu touch preview (raring ringtail)
Current build of Ubuntu-CM10.1 (old bootloader)
New bootloader build by delaya73:
cm-10.1-20130604-UNOFFICIAL-p990.zip
Older Ubuntu phone quantal image
older build 2 of Ubuntu-CM10.1 by delaya73
older build 1 of Ubuntu-CM10.1 by delaya73 for the new bootloader
TWRP latest version is recommended (CWM 6.x may work too)
Note:
The raring/quantal image is large, but thankfully gets installed on the data partition, thus saving our small system partition the burden
Source:
Ubuntu-cm10 source
Building instructions:
Building instructions are similar to building CM10 (refer Raum's guide) till repo sync (instead of official cm10 repo, use above source during repo init)
Dont forget to add device props in "local_manifests" (local_manifest.xml is deprecated). Add the following in local_manifests:
Code:
(Taken from Raum's guide, thanks to him)
After syncing the repo,
1. cd device/lge/p990, connect your device running cm10.1 with usb debugging on, and then ./extract-files.sh
2. In device/lge/p990/fstab.p990, remove "nosuid" from data partition
3. In kernel/lge/star/arch/arm/configs, in cyanogenmod_p990_defconfig, add the following:
Code:
CONFIG_SYSVIPC=y
CONFIG_NAMESPACES=y
CONFIG_UTS_NS=y
CONFIG_IPC_NS=y
CONFIG_USER_NS=y
CONFIG_PID_NS=y
CONFIG_NET_NS=y
CONFIG_DEVTMPFS=y
CONFIG_DEVPTS_MULTIPLE_INSTANCES=y
CONFIG_FSNOTIFY=y
CONFIG_DNOTIFY=y
CONFIG_INOTIFY_USER=y
CONFIG_FANOTIFY=y
CONFIG_FANOTIFY_ACCESS_PERMISSIONS=y
CONFIG_FSNOTIFY=y
CONFIG_SWAP=y
# CONFIG_ANDROID_PARANOID_NETWORK is not set
4. Go to ubuntu folder inside your source folder and do
Code:
bzr branch lp:phablet-extras/libhybris hybris
bzr branch lp:platform-api platform-api
If you didnt have bzr, get it first using
Code:
sudo apt-get install bzr
Now you can build. This build would be for the old bootloader. For the new one, make these changes said by pengus77 here
Flashing instructions:
1. Make a full wipe (wipe data + format /system)
2. Flash the current build and raring/quantal image
Then flash this afterflash.zip
3. Reboot

Boot animation comes from the Ubuntu-cm10.1 build and is the default cm10 boot animation. Since your tablet's Ubuntu image was released directly by canonical, they must have removed the cm10 boot animation before releasing it

If you read the first post, it's written there that it does not complete the boot yet, still a WIP.

The Credits list looks too small.
Maybe you can add Ricardo Cerqueira (for ahem) and TonyP for porting TWRP.

Ricardo is always a name in every project of the O2x, and he is a part of the CM team, in case you didnt know
But thanks for the reminder, I explicitly specified his name too now, deserves so much credit for bringing CM10 to our device.
Tonyp is a great contributor and we are thankful for all his work. But this is a ROM, and TWRP is a recovery used to flash a ROM, they have non-overlapping work. What I mean is, this ROM doesnt use TWRP's work, rather it can be flashed in TWRP or CWM6.
By your logic, Koushik Datta (developer of CWM and one of the best android devs) should be included in every ROM's credits here. Also, creators of USB, personal computers, internet, world wide web, which are also tools used in the process of flashing it.
(No offense meant to any of the above, they are all revolutionary people whom I greatly respect)
My point is, if I am using someone's work in this project/ROM, thats the person whose name goes in credits, not the one who is creating the tools to install it.
It's better if the discussion doesnt go further about this off-topic thing, if you find that I have used anyone's work in this ROM and not given credits, please let me know, thanks
Let's try to make Ubuntu Phone OS boot on our phone. Thats the priority here. Didn't get much time today, got college this week too, will see if I get time to work on it soon

[ROM][Unofficial]SlimBean - The Menu Returns [build.2.1] [5-Nov-13]

Here's presenting stock Slimbean ROM with just 2 commits reverted which prevented users from adding the big menu button to navigation bar and SlimPie. Besides this, this is pure Slimbean without any modification whatsoever. I'm not a developer, in fact I learnt to install linux because I wanted the menu button so bad. I thought maybe I should share this with similar minded people. I'm going to upload updates as and when Slim team releases 4.3 updates as I'm not sure about the changes that would be made in 4.4. I won't be able to take any request as I am totally unaware of how to make any modifications, cherry picks or anything else. Hope you enjoy this ROM.

@gururoop thank you so much for this, the one main thing missing from slim, Menu Button. In theory there shouldn't be any issues since its only 2 extra commits. Downloading now :good:
Just some screens to confirm. Everything is running smooth, no issues whatsoever

Great, thanks a lot
edit: glad to have the menu button back.
However, I think it's better if you just make a small patch instead of rebuild the whole rom.

What statusbar mods are you talking about? This build is pure stock with just 2 reverts which enable us to add the menu button, apart from that no other change. The latest build was synced on 5th November, so maybe the statusbar mods were added later.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I guess you revert the change in framework-res.
In that case, you just need to create an update.zip which replace the old framework-res with your framework-res, and user only need to flash that file instead of the whole ROM.

don't know exactly how many files or what else changes due to that. If you could figure that out, i'll be more than happy to help. and can u tell me whether there is any way i can compile some selected files instead of the whole rom?

What I mean is you still compile the rom, but only make a flashable zip of these two files and put it here. It would be easier for both you and me.
From the commit, I guess the two files are settings.apk and framework-res

No problem mate.
The easiest way is to extract your rom to a new folder, delete boot.img, go to system folder and delete everything except the two files you want to keep. (you must also keep the folder structure). Inside these 2 folders are only files you want to copy (in this case settings.apk and framework-res)
Then go to META-INF\com\google\android\ folder and use notepad to edit the updater-script file like this
After that, you can compress them as simple zip and flash via twrp.
Next time you can just replace 2 files, compress again. No need to edit updater-script

So what you are saying is that if someone or I can just extract those 2 apks and add to a flashable zip I have lying round and menu button will be added to normal slim?
Would have been quicker!!

^^^^LOL I agree... Sidenote its funny how many people can creates so much goodness with building or modding files but dont know how to create flashable zips... LOL
dont re-invent the wheel I believe just get a gapps zip and mod away...
OH yea my bad thanks for the rom I too am a big fan of the menu and choose to live with it

[GUIDE][MOD][ROOT]Edit screen saturation and calibration via KPPD

Hey everyone, I hope I'm posting in the right section because it's been a long time since I posted a thread on this forum haha
In my opinion, the screen on our G5 is great calibration-wise, however it lacks a little bit of saturation, especially since I was coming from a Galaxy S4 before this phone!
So, I remembered a little thing from back from my G Flex 2 days, called KPPD and originally found on the G4 forums (original thread is HERE), that allowed us to edit the screen settings natively even on the phones that didn't have the options in the Display settings.
Since we finally got root on the H840 as well, I thought I may as well try it out and BEHOLD! It's working!
It's relatively easy to set up and tweak, even though there's not an app to edit the settings. However, the file that contains them (postproc.conf) is pretty straightforward.
I'm running stock Nougat on my G5 SE (H840), but it should work just fine on any Qualcomm-based devices.
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR PHONE MISBEHAVES, BLOWS UP OR STOPS LOVING YOU, I TESTED IT ON MINE AND EVERYTHING'S WORKING FINE, BUT THERE'S NO WARRANTY THAT IT WILL WORK ON YOURS AS WELL.
GUIDE:
Download the attached zip, which is just the original zip, from which I edited the config file to better suit our G5, by only adding a little of saturation (original is at 255, I put it at 275 which IMO is the "sweet spot"; everything else is unchanged.)
Either flash it via TWRP or extract the two files from it and copy kppd in /system/bin, with 755 permissions (rwxr-xr-x) and postproc.conf in /system/etc with 644 permissions (rw-r--r--). Use any root browser for this.
Setup a script to run at boot, either via init.d or with Rom Toolbox lite (I use it)
The script is
Code:
kppd /system/etc/postproc.conf
To edit the configuration, simply open the postproc.conf file with any root text editor (I use Solid Explorer's integrated one) and tweak the settings as you like, keeping in mind that 255 is default in case you mess something up
I didn't actually do much for this to work, none of this is my work so please head over to the thread I linked earlier on and thank @savoca for his amazing job

One quick question:
The script setup is only necessary if I put the two files manually or also if I flash the zip with TWRP ?

Could you please take me to a thread about rooting the g5se? So i dont bother you asking here:good:

Yes but on H840 we don't have any custom kernel yet
is it possible without root? having h845 (G5se) is very bad since no method available to root it.
for example, can we push the files via adb? screen is too blue. please help.
