Hey guys,
i'm sending my One to htc at the moment and i think i'll get it back in a couple of days with new camera module and a firmware update .
At the moment my HBOOT is 1.4x, the phone was S-OFF via revone and i reversed it back to stock yesterday.
Are there any safe possiblities to S-OFF a 1.57 HBOOT device WITHOUT using htcdev?
From what i've read recently
- Revone isn't supported with HBOOT 1.57
- Firewater can maybe S-OFF but needs HTCDEV unlock and maybe the Bootloader is TAMPERED after that
- Sunshine costs 25 USD !?
So is the conclusion correct that an unlock via htcdev is absolutely necessary to S-OFF atm?
Is it also correct that i can't get rid of the TAMPERED flag when Firewater fails?
Thanks
Once S-Off you can revert the BL back to locked and remove the tampered flag anyway.
That's right but from what i heard some devices can't be S-OFFed with Firewater. Then the device is TAMPERED and you can't get rid of that because S-OFF doesn't work!?

you cant get rid of the tampered flag full stop without s-off
sunshine does not require the bootloader to be unlocked, it does everything for you but like you said costs $25 however, it is a one off payment, after that you don't need to pay again to s-off the same device again.
all other s-off tools require the bootloader to be unlocked via HTC Dev.
if you are on HBOOT 1.56 or 1.57 and firewater fails then sunshine is the only way.

Okay, thank you very much for that!
Sorry for the question but can i install TWRP and flash ROMs via Recovery when just htcdev unlocked and S-ON? On the One X it was necessary to flash the boot.img from a pc. On the One this isn't necessary right?

yes you can flash custom rom's whilst s-on as long as the bootloader is unlocked and also correct, no need to flash the boot.img separately.
Does someone know what devices will fail with firewater? Is it a change in the hardware maybe? My One is from May 2013 so i hope it may work.
There has to be a change between the devices with 1.57 that fail and the devices that work!?

if you sent your phone back to HTC to get the camera repaired, they will probably replace the motherboard, if they do then firewater probably wont work, all you can do is try.
Okay, i'll wait and report
Dunno if it's different but when I s-offed and unlocked and rooted my HTC one max I used firewater and used temp root method which in turn s-offed and unlocked bootloader which can be done on our highest hboot. I don't no if it's different for you guys but it might not be such a major problem but when I sent my HTC one m7 back for repair when I had it I reverted back to stock and left s-off present they said nothing about it.

if you request them to don't update software they don't do that
If it's camera problem they don't tends to update they don't waste their time if your phone motherboard s off once it can be easily again

Hello everyone,
I have several issues with my HTC One and so I've got to send it to HTC. But for this I have to reset it back to stock so I have the right to claim warranty. Now I proceeded every step from using a RUU and setting the locked state to installing every OTA update. But now the only thing that has to be removed is the S OFF. I heard that you can instantly brick your device if you "fastboot writesecureflag 3" and you have a custom hboot. So now I have the stock hboot 1.55 recieved OTA. Is it secure the turn my phone back S ON? Or do I have to downgrade the hboot 1.44?

Don't go S-On with hboot 1.55 - A few users have reported the ***TAMPER*** returning to the bootloader screen even with the bootloader Locked
Don't know if they patched something in the latest hboot. Only way around it was to go S-ON in hboot 1.54 and then receive the OTA

It's happened with myself despite being completely stock and to someone else in an earlier thread today
Only way I could bypass this was by basically starting from hboot 1.44 and then installing an RUU before going s on, then taking the ota s right up to the latest hboot

So this basically means you locked and untampered your phone after installing the RUU? And another question: Did you also flash this stock hboot before installing the RUU?
http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/1-29-401-12_hboot_1-44-zip/
But I decided not to go back s on because they won't void my warranty for that and if they say that will void it, I am gonna argue with them until they accept the only fair option: SOFWARE MODIFICATION CAN'T CAUSE ANY HARDWARE DAMAGE except overclocking can melt your phone^^

My method was for a carrier branded phone (o2 UK) but this guide can be changed to suit unbranded phones. The problem I had, as well as others, was getting back to s on and once writesecureflag 3 was performed on hboot 1.55 tamper was detected. Guess it may be a patch in latest hboot. I had to go s on with hboot 1.54 or earlier and then upgrade to hboot 1.55 via ota once I was happy everything was stock

As long as your using it on a downgraded hboot ie 1.44. Rumrunner will only work on hboot 1.5x
To run the 4.1 RUU you will have to downgrade the hboot or it will give error 155

Sorry that this question seams to be very simple.. but did you go s on with this version of bootloader?
http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/1-29-401-12_hboot_1-44-zip/
Because I really don't want to risk anything by going s on again..
Or did you go s on again with the 1.54 hboot from the OTA?

When I ran the RUU after downgrading the hboot I was on android 4.1.2 and hboot 1.44
I restored a nandroid backup then for my o2 carrier. Although the recovery was stock, it wasn't 100% stock for my carrier. I knew this would be fixed with the OTA so that's why I went s on then with hboot 1.54 as EVERYTHING was stock
If you are going to an unbranded model, you can change the CID to run the RUU if you have to, then once completed change the CID back, push revone for locking bootloader, remove tampered etc then when satisfied you can s on again. Just don't s on with hboot 1.55!
I found the RUU in http : / / www . htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads and tought if is possible do it.

only if your s-off

Like I said in your previous thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2552669
You might want to read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541082
If you read, then you will understand that the RUU you want to execute need to be compatible with both your CID, MID and hboot version.
So yes its possible, but you need to be s-off to change CID/MID and to downgrade hboot if required.
and please don't start 2 different threads for relatively the same questions.
Hope it help

yes, use revone tool for hboot 1.44 or use rumrunner tool for hboot 1.54 and 1.55
This is the first thing listed in the thread I linked above.....
First you need to be S-Off, this will NOT work with S-On!!!
A) If you’re on hboot 1.44 use revone to get S-Off: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2314582
B) If you’re on hboot 1.54/1.55 use rumrunner to get S-Off: http://rumrunner.us/ and http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2487888

I can't answer that cause I'm not familiar with rumrunner since I s-off'd my One when it was on 1.44 hboot with revone. In theory rumrunner 0.5.0 should work on all international variant with hboot 1.54 and up except verizon model that need a different version of rumrunner. Maybe you should ask help directly on rumrunner thread for that step or search the forum for similar issue with s-off on 1.55. Hope you will find out.

I went back and forth with rumrunner and moonshine while using a rom 4.3 GPE ROM with twrp and it kept failing. ultimately installed a 4.1.2 stock then used revone and it worked wonderfully. I was able to remove the tampered flag, unlock the stock bootloader and flash the GPE 4.3 and receive the updates. I also only have a mac so i was limited in not being able to run .exe's.

Tampered flag is just that, a flag. It doesnt hinder anything, just a pop up for "Warranty" purposes. The flag pops up when you unlock the bootloader but when you get S-Off you can remove the flag.
Since you have access to windows i would go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428276 and find the .exe RUU for your area. Just get into your bootloader, select fastboot usb and run the .exe. Pick the lowest firmware available so you can ensure that you get the 1.44 hboot.

The zip can only be used with S-Off where as the exe is designed to be used to return a phone to stock with S-On.
Just get into fastboot and run the exe, it should do the rest for you. It will wipe the entire phone, but as far as I'm concerned, a blank phone is better than an unusable one.
I'm not sure if the hboot makes a difference, but mine downgraded when I flashed an older RUU.
Once you get the older hboot and firmware, you may have to unlock your bootloader again through HTC Dev, then S-Off. Once your S-Off unlocking your bootloader is much easier.

If you want to run a GPE RUU.exe your phone MUST have CID compatible (BS_US0001) with GPE and MID: PN0712000
you can check that with this command:
Code:
fastboot oem readcid
fastboot oem readmid
if they doesn't match, you MUST be S-OFF to change them
If your device is currently a DEV edition, you should already have PN0712000 as MID so the only concern is that CID need to match GPE RUU
You should post your
Code:
fastboot getvar-all
and remove imei and sn so it will be easier to see what options you have.

Okay then I don't seem to understand. I know how to relock the bootloader, and how to remove the root access.
What I want to do is remove custom recoveries to be able to send the phone to a warranty repair (microphone is dead).

I don't have s-off, and it seems I won't ever have as my bootloader is 1.57 and I found no way to s-off that.
If you know any better ways to reinstate some close-to-factory like state to be able to get those repairs, I'd be the happiest man around
However I had the chance to talk to an HTC repairs worker who said they usually don't really care about relocked bootloaders, only opened ones. He said relocked is fine. Even though a 'locked' would be better.
Thanks

Thank you very much, I'll get into it next weekend!
I knew about rumrunner but the last time I checked my hboot version was clearly not supported, or maybe I missed something
Thanks again

Firewater may work with your hboot and if it fails with "whelp this sucks..." message then your best option will be Sunshine but it will cost $25.
Well, fk. I just love HTC and I would never change my One for any Samsung device, but this sucks hard.
I hope firewater's going to work and I won't need to pay 25 bucks - though I completely understand the motives of the devs of Sunshine.
Thank you all again, I might post whether i succeeded or not next week.

The htc1guru site doesn't work, I get that 522 error, is there any other way I can get the tool?

There was a problem with the server. I rebooted it and it seems to be ok now.

Just try later, or even tomorrow. It happens frequently at the moment. I guess it's just busy being updated or something.

So, it worked, but now I'm stuck with my device apparently being unable to get S-OFF with either Firewater or Sunshine...I have 4.4.3 and *TAMPERED* *UNLOCKED*. I want to upgrade to 4.4.4 but I couldn't because I had *RELOCKED* I guess and I rooted my M8 all over again to try and lock it or whatever is necessary so I can upgrade to 4.4.4. I'm sorry for being a noob, I'm so stuck atm...

What does this have to do with the Tool? You need S-off in order to use it and it cannot be used to gain S-Off. If you have issues not being able to gain S-off, I would post in the relevant thread.

What problem are you talking about? You said your phone spec: AT&T, unlocked, tampered, S-ON and Running Cyanogenmod. But nothing about your problem.

You'll have to describe your problem a little more if you want help. Have no idea what is the problem here.

I'm assuming the problem is that the device is s-on. Not quite sure i'd describe it as a tragedy though [emoji14] I've a feeling this is gonna turn into one of those "I'm on hboot 1.57 I've tried everything except paying for sunshine. Nothing worked. Whats wrong" posts
htc at&t
hi Danny & Alray, first of all I apologize for my English, I'm sorry but I am now too many years that unfortunately did not use it...

Ok not as bad as I was expecting [emoji14] with hboot 1.56 Rumrunner should work for you. Have you tried rumrunner with a Stock Rom on the phone?
Try rumrunner with this Stock Rom from @clsA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674222

Rumrunner will fail on that hboot it was patched in 4.x.502 - Sunshine is the only s-off for 1.56 and 1,57

I wasted over 10 hours trying to get runrunner to work with the configuration below, I was literally up all night until 10AM. Then finally ordered the SUnshine app for $25 and in less than 5 minutes S-Off was achieved. Serves me right I guess for being a cheapskate but even if I make $10 per hour I wasted $100 of lifespan

We can't. Sunshine doesn't seem to work anymore to gain s-off do we are screwed until someone that doesn't support a paywall figures out how to be able to gain s-off so we can flash the RUU.
I hate this damn phone and I wish I knew how to develop myself.

FYI you don't need to be s-off to run an RUU
Tell that to my phone after I tried 3 different methods and it still will not flash

Our phones don't come s-off so why would they need to be s-off to RUU?
Beats me. I tried the external sd method. Fastboot method. Changed my CID. nothing works.

Plenty of other people have successfully RUU'd their phones while S-on. It does require an extra step but it can be done. Also, as far as S-off with Sunshine, I believe the latest version (3.0) is compatible with Lollipop.
To the OP: Hit the second link in my sig. Scroll down to the RUU section and take a read. A link to OMJ's RUU thread can be found at the bottom of the first post of my thread. Download the latest applicable RUU (4.25.651.14 for NON-HK or 4.25.654.14 for the HK version). Follow my instructions in my thread to run the RUU on your device.

External sd method = needs s-off so won't work for s-on users.
Fastboot method = most RUU's are exe files so most likely won't work via fastboot method.
Changed my CID = cannot be done unless you are s-off.

But I thought if you are s-on you cannot go backwards to an older hboot version. I thought you had to be s-off if you wanted to go backwards?

You do have to be s-off to go backwards, but just to RUU s-off is not required
Are you by chance using a computer, not to be a ****, but like what are some of the results and we can try to help you with using the RUU... Sometimes they are touchy and need to be done in an exact way...and patience is key
