Hi to everyone.
I was updating my tab to the latest version of the ROM of sbdags.
Everything was fine until i reboot the tab to use it for the first time: loop in the boot animation and never come out from it.
I came from the previous version of the rom, the Cromi-x 6.1 with 10.26.1.18 bootloader.
The process i use to update was this:
1) wipe of data/factory reset, wipe with format /boot, wipe with format /system
2) Install the CWM recovery 6.0.5.0 and update the bootloader to 11.4.1.17 by flashing they with the file that you can find in the rom page.
3) repeat point 1
4) install the rom by flashing it from an SD. Complete the Aroma installer and answer to every option that it ask to me.
5) reboot the system and stuck in the bootanimation
I use the WW format cause i'm italian and i check the md5
What's wrong? I can go to recovery everytime i need and i have a backup just in case i need it.
Sdbags, i really want to offer you a beer for your work. I think i will do it in every case, but yes, kitkat on my tab would be great :victory:
Sorry for bad english. For every question, i'm here. Thanks a lot.

Right and then you boot back to CWM, do a full wipe (you may need to wipe your internal sdcard so back it up first) and then flash the rom. After that it should boot fine.
If not please search xda for how to get a logcat and post one of it bootlooping please.

I try the first thing that you say but nothing, still loop in bootanimation.
I'll do a logcat through adb in the afternoon. Now i had some problem cause i can't mount usb storage through cwm for some reason. Late i'll find drivers or what's missing.
Maybe can help: when i reboot frequently cwm ask me if i want to fix root. It's normal?
Thanks you for your help.

i've some problem to find the SKU code. I search on the box of the tablet but there are too many codes and i don't know what's the right. Can you give me an exemple of it?
Yes, i can restore to 4.3. In this right moment i'm writing with the tab with cromix 6. Everything seems to work fine.
In case like this you really know how much important is to do a backup..

SKU is just your country code - so if you have changed it it could be causing issues with the clean install.
US, WW, TW, CN, JP are the only 5 I know of.
So if you changed the bootloader from US to WW I heard another user reporting some issues.
But in your case I am at a loss as to how you can boot 4.3 but not 4.4.2 as you are apparently on a 4.4.2 compatible bootloader and recovery .......

Ah, right, i understand. I am WW, and i use it in every installation that i've done on my eee pad, from the rooting process and the unlocking of bootloader to the change of the rom.
Now that i am on the previous version of your rom those are infos of kernel, firmware, ecc.
Android Version 4.3
Kernel Version 3.4.57-g47dbe4d [email protected]#1
Tue Dec 17 23.26.15 CST 2013
Build Number TF701T_CROMi-Xenogenesis-6.1-WW_DEODEX-ORIGINAL-10.26.1.18 020115_201310210002
In ROM Manager i can see that my Recovery still is the 6.0.5.0 version.
In bootloader i can see that it is "WW_epad-11.4.1.17-20140711"
Hope that this might be helpful and hope that i don't write anything of unsafe.

Ok, so maybe now i need some help.
I run adb in my pc then i type adb shell to run the remote shell interactively.
Then what i need to type?
Anyway if i type "ls -l /system/framework > framework.txt" the response is "No such file or directory"
Sorry for my n00b questions. Really hope to learn something here, and give a chance to reward everyone for the help.

The commands were supposed to be typed as is on your computer. However I think I missed to quote the "echo $BOOTCLASSPATH" - I want the bootclasspath of your device, not of your PC.
Anyway, if you type "adb shell" first and then "ls -l /system/framework" and you get back "No such file or directory" that's strange...

No need for a graphical screenshot - you can copy the text from the console window.

Note: Please uninstall Hashcode's Safestrap before you try installing this one. To accomplish this properly, you have to do two things:
1. Open up the Safestrap app from your launcher, and choose "Uninstall Recovery". Let it finish. It'll tell you whether or not it worked.
2. Then, go to Settings - Apps and find Safestrap. Click "Uninstall".
************************************
************************************
Installation of this app requires root privileges. If the installation does
not work, it is likely because you either:
a) don't have busybox installed.
b) you do have busybox installed but it doesn't have the functions we
need.
No problem. Just do this through adb or a terminal on the phone:
Code:
$ su
# mount -o remount,rw /system
# cp /system/xbin/busybox /system/xbin/busybox.old
# cp /data/data/com.hashcode.droid4safestrap/files/busybox /system/xbin/
# chmod 755 /system/xbin/busybox
# exit
Now it should work without a hitch.
************************************
************************************
Those of you who came from the Droid 3 might remember my customized version of Hashcode's Safestrap, which included a console, improved user-interface, non-safe flashing, etc.
I've finally got it to the point where I think it would be okay to release out in the wild. That being said, I'm not responsible for anything dumb you do to your own device.
I wouldn't bother using the non-safe flashing capabilities yet, seeing as how there hasn't really been any official releases using the new ICS kernels that have been leaked as of late. This feature is handy if you're a developer testing out update.zips for /systemorig, but for the average person you'd best pay heed to the warnings and just use Safestrap as it was originally intended; that is, leaving your /systemorig partition intact and only mess around with your "safe" /system. (Or /preinstall, actually, but that's not really important.)
The console is beyond useful. Editing build.prop settings on the fly without having to boot up and do it in a terminal emulator or via adb on the phone is much easier. If you know what you're doing, you can even extract single files from your old backups, modify your old backups, etc. That's just a small fraction, but those of you who would care about this functionality don't need me to say how important it can be.
I've included statically compiled versions of "bash" and "vim" so that there aren't any dependencies on the libraries usually found in /system/lib. Thus, you can use all of these utilities without having either /system or /systemorig mounted. You're free to add your own binaries in your home folder, which is located at /cache/.safestrap/home, or just pop them onto your sdcard.
Also, I have a battery monitor running so it will tell you what level your battery is at, and have put a lot of work into the visual appearance of the user-interface. There are so many things I've modified that it would be impossible for me to list them all here.
Anyways, try it out and let me know what you guys think. I hope you like it!

=========================
bash Commands:
--------------------
Here are a few of the more useful bash commands that you will use:
===========
ls, ls -a, ls -l, ll
===========
Code:
/ {}$ ls
- "ls" lists the files and directories within the current directory.
- You can also add a path after it to look for certain files or directories.
Code:
/ {}$ ls -a
- "ls -a" will list all files and directories, including hidden ones starting with a ".", ie: .bashrc in /cache/.safestrap/home. (The bash startup script).
Code:
/ {}$ ls -l
- "ls -l" will do a long listing, showing permissions, file sizes, etc.
Now, instead of using those parameters, I've made aliases within the .bashrc script so you will probably just want to type:
Code:
/ {}$ ll
- "ll" is an alias for "ls -a -l", so it will list all files/directories, hidden or not and list their properties.
Code:
/ {}$ ll
- By putting a path after "ll", it will single out the file. Add a "*" in there to act as a wildcard to list multiple files with the same first few characters.
- ie: "ll /system/lib/libc*" would display all the files and directories starting with "libc" within /system/lib as well as their properties.
========
cd
========
Code:
/ {}$ cd (path)
- Change directory. Pretty self-explanatory. Try doing:
Code:
/ {}$ cd ~/
- This takes you to the home folder. Pretty useless here but this is usually pretty handy in other scenarios.
Code:
/ {}$ cd ../
- Using "../" as your target will cause you to drop down a single directory in the tree.
**** Don't forget to hit tab to auto-complete directory/file names for you whenever you've already entered the first few characters. More accurate and much less typing. ****
=======
mv
=======
Code:
/ {}$ mv (source) (destination)
- "mv" is short for move. The source is the path to the file/directory you want to move, and I don't think i need to tell you what the destination is.
=======
rm
=======
Code:
/ {}$ rm (-r -f) (target)
- "rm" is used to delete the targetted files.
- "-r" means to recurse, or go into every inner directory automatically, erasing as it goes.
- You'll use the -r flag a lot, because you can't delete directories without it unless you use "rmdir", which is just more typing.
"-f" means force in case of permission errors, as long as you are root.
========
cp
========
Code:
/ {}$ cp (-f -a) (source) (destination)
- Copy the source file or directory to the destination.
- Use "-f" to force the copying, in the event of a potential overwrite.
- Use "-a" to maintain permissions of the original, you'll want to use this whenever you are copying anything important. I just use it all the time, but sometimes it won't work, such as when copying from an /sdcard to either the /system or /data partition.
-This is because the file system of your /sdcard doesn't care about permissions.

[VIM REFERENCE]|
============
Vim deserves, and has, entire websites devoted to it's use. Here are some of the basics.
------------
Using Vim|
------------
From the console, simply type:
Code:
/ {}$ vim
Where is obviously replaced by the name of the file you are editing.
Multiple files can be opened at once by just adding them as parameters to vim:
Code:
/ {}$ vim file1 file2 file3 file4 filen
---------------
Insert Mode |
---------------
This is the mode you want to be in to make any visible changes to the file you are editing.
- Enter Insert Mode by pushing "i" when vim opens.
- Exit Insert Mode by pushing Capslock.
Keys:
------
Backspace - In insert mode, deletes the previous character.
Capslock - Exits insert mode
---------------
Visual mode |
---------------
By typing in "v" instead of "i", you will enter visual mode; this is Vim's fancy way of saying you will be selecting text.
Keys:
------
- Copy or Cut text by hitting "y" or "d" after you've made a selection
- Paste with "p" or "P" (that is, Shift+p). Shift-"p" puts the text before the cursor whereas plain lowercase "p" will paste it after.
- When you're done highlighting what you want to either cut or copy, just hit Capslock to go back to Command Mode.
-------------------
Command Mode |
-------------------
Vim starts out in Command mode. It seems confusing but once you get used to it, you can't help but hate Notepad.
Some of the more common commands are listed below.
Keys:
------
u - Undo
Shift+r (Usually denoted as R) - Enter Replace Mode, where you are replacing text instead of inserting it.
[#]yy - Yank (copy) the current line if you just entered "yy", or copy "#" lines if you enter #yy, ie: 5yy to copy 5 lines.
[#]dd - Delete (cut) the current line, or delete # lines if preceded by a #.
p - Pastes after the cursor
Shift+p (usually denoted as P) - Pastes before the cursor
:[#] - (Ignore the square brackets; a colon followed by a number goes to that particular line in the text file you are editing. eg: ":5" goes to line 5. (Obviously, don't type the quotation marks in.)
Note: - If you are in Insert mode, you will have to push Capslock to exit and be allowed to enter Command Mode by entering a ":"
- It's fairly common practice to just hit Capslock twice whenever you're done inserting so that you are sure to be able to hit ":" and proceed to enter another command.
:w - Write (save) the currently open file.
:q - Quit. If you haven't saved since making any changes, it will prompt you to either save your changes or append a "!" after "q" to quit without saving. (See below)
:q! - Force quit without saving.
:wq - Save and then quit.
:e [path to filename] Opens up another file; you can use bash command-line completion to scan the current directory, or otherwise just enter another path.
:next or rev - Aptly named, move to the next or previous file if you opened vim with two or more files as parameters, ie:
Code:
/ {}$ vim file1 file2
:/[text] - Search for "text". ie: ":/search" will find instances of the text "search" in the current file and highlight them.
Note: You need to make sure you are aware of regular expressions/escape characters before using this reliably; it's not broken if you can't seem to search for a quotation mark or other special characters, you need to precede them by a \. ie: to look for a double-quote symbol " you would enter :/\". The \ tells it that the next character is meant to be taken literally and not symbolically.
:/[text]/[moretext]/gc - Replace "text" with "moretext" everywhere in the file and ask confirmation for each change. If you forget to type in the "gc" at the end, it'll just replace everywhere without asking you for confirmation.
That's all I'm going to put here. There are tons of guide out there and I've already preloaded a pretty awesome configuration (.vimrc located at /cache/.safestrap/home) and runtime files. If you want to quickly access the configuration file, you can type ",,e" in Command Mode and it will automatically pop open.
================
COLOR CHANGING
================
1. If you want to change the color scheme, you need to figure out what the RGB code for the color you want is. Here's a website that provides a large table of colors and their corresponding RGB color code:
http://web.njit.edu/~kevin/rgb.txt.html
For example, let's say we like the "SlateGray4" color from the table linked above want to use it for the menus in both Safe and Non-Safe mode. As you can see, in the "R;G;B; Dec" column, the three codes we are interested in are 108, 123 and 139.
2. Now that you know the color codes, in our case 108, 123 and 139, we simply do the following:
a) Push 7 from the main menu, or scroll down and select "console menu".
b) Push 1, or scroll down and select "open console"
(Don't panic if it takes a few seconds to load the console; on the first initialization or after wiping the /cache partition, it will take a few seconds to reconfigure itself.)
c) At the prompt, enter the following:
Code:
/ {}$ ns_rgb 108 123 139
/ {}$ s_rgb 108 129 139
/ {}$ cc
/ {}$ exit
Now, it'll take another second or two and when the menu pops back up, you'll see that it is the color we chose from the table. The "ns_rgb" command takes three parameters, each of which correspond to the R, G and B values of the color code, and uses them for the "Non-Safe" (hence the "ns") menu color.
Similarly, the "s_rgb" command, (well technically, it's a bash function but anyways...) takes the same three parameters. It is applied to the "Safe" menu color.
The "cc" command actually sets the color, so don't forget to enter it. Otherwise, you won't notice a change when you exit out from the console.
Feel free to experiment with different colors! If you don't what you've done and just want to reset it back to the way it way, just wipe the cache partition:
a) Push 3, or scroll down to "wipe menu".
b) Push 1, or just hit Enter on "wipe cache".
c) Confirm your selection by pushing 8 or scrolling down and selecting "yes - wipe cache".

More to come as I have more time.
Awesome, just a couple questions:
1) where is the dropbox download
2) if I already have the hashcode safestrap installed, how does one install yours? And what happens if I am already running a custom ROM?
Sent from my XT894 running ICS
Good call, I should make that clear.
Make sure you uninstall Hashcode's Safestrap, both inside the app and from the Android Settings menu before you install this .APK.
- download the pimped apk, uninstalled safestrap recovery, uninstalled old safestrap
- installed pimped safestrap, install new safestrap recovery, reboot
looks fine
anyone who restorerd a full backup of ics leak with safestrap 2.0?
friend got a problem, and system was unbootable and lost root....
Yeah, I've done it about four times today. No problems using either my modified version or Hashcode's original Safestrap v2.00.
It was no problem recovering from a busted /system partition either; just fastbooted the /system and /preinstall partitions only from the .219 leak, then rebooted the phone into the stock recovery and re-applied the .208 leaked update .zip file. Re-rooted with the technique I posted the other day without a hitch.
Didn't even lose any data...

I mean full restore in safestrap, not advanced restore.
After restore from systemorig cames an "error while restoring systemorig!" And system damage.

I'm not following you here, this happened to you using my version?
I've done it countless times while testing this before I released it and have been working with this code for a long time; it's pretty foolproof.

No, this was tested with hashcodes safestrap. Restore in your version doesn't tested, but not need at time;-)

Having some issues with getting safestrap installed in the 208 ICS leak. The app installs fine, click install and it says install complete, but I have no safestrap. Even after a reboot it still says "Not Installed" in the safestrap app. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

So I have tried to restore 2 different backups using your safestrap and I keep on getting MD5 mismatch errors. I have tried deleting and regenerating the checksum file via ADB, disabled signature check, changed the folder name, pretty much everything I could think of. So whats going on?
An MD5 error would indicate that your backup files don't match the checksum that was generated at the time the backups were initially generated, which most likely means that your backup files may have become corrupted... unfortunately, this can happen with any files stored on an SD card.
Don't worry too much though, there still a really good chance that you can manually restore your data, although if your MD5's aren't matching there's a tiny possibility that your backup files are toast.
*** I'll assume you are trying to restore a "safe" system backup. If it's a "non-safe" backup, then just interchange "/systemorig" and "non-safe" for "/system" and "safe", respectively. ***
You have to manually wipe your /data and /cache partitions in the wipe menu, then format "/system" in the mounts menu. This way you have a clean slate to extract your backups to.
Try this from within the console in the recovery. (Depending on whether you backed up to the internal (/emmc) or external (/sdcard) card, just mount the required partition as follows:
*** Don't worry if you get a message saying the device can't mount because it is busy, that just means it's already mounted. ***
Internal card:
Code:
{}$: mount /emmc
External card:
Code:
{}$: mount /sdcard
(To be sure, it won't hurt if you just mount both of them.)
I'll assume you used the external sdcard which is mounted at /sdcard. Now:
Code:
{}$: cd /sdcard/safestrap/backup
If you list this directory (using "ll", or "ls -l"), you'll see a list of backup directories, prefixed by either "safe" or "nonsafe" and followed by the date and time of the backup. Remember, you can use the Tab key to autocomplete file/directory names so you don't have to type in the entire path. Here's an example:
Code:
/sdcard/safestrap/backup {}$ ll
total 192
d---rwxr-x 6 1000 1015 32768 Jun 24 04:42 ./
d---rwxr-x 3 1000 1015 32768 Jun 6 04:41 ../
d---rwxr-x 5 1000 1015 32768 Jun 6 04:41 nonsafe-2012-05-25.19.22.55/
d---rwxr-x 2 1000 1015 32768 Jun 8 20:42 nonsafe-2012-06-08.13.35.00/
d---rwxr-x 2 1000 1015 32768 Jun 20 03:13 safe-2012-06-19.20.10.44/
d---rwxr-x 3 1000 1015 32768 Jun 24 13:17 safe-2012-06-23.16.25.49/
/sdcard/safestrap/backup {}$
Let's use "safe-2012-06-19.20.10.44" for my example, substitute your own directory name as I'm sure it'll be different.
Go ahead and list the contents by entering the next two commands:
Code:
/sdcard/safestrap/backup {}$: cd safe-2012-06-19.20.10.44
/sdcard/safestrap/backup/safe-2012-06-19.20.10.44 {}$: ll
You should see something like:
Code:
/sdcard/safestrap/backup {}$: cd safe-2012-06-19.20.10.44
/sdcard/safestrap/backup/safe-2012-06-19.20.10.44 {}$ ll
total 1117760
d---rwxr-x 2 1000 1015 32768 Jun 20 03:13 ./
d---rwxr-x 6 1000 1015 32768 Jun 24 04:42 ../
----rwxr-x 1 1000 1015 74135552 Jun 20 03:13 cache.ext3.tar*
----rwxr-x 1 1000 1015 225547776 Jun 20 03:12 data.ext3.tar*
----rwxr-x 1 1000 1015 201 Jun 20 03:13 nandroid.md5*
----rwxr-x 1 1000 1015 280272384 Jun 20 03:12 system.ext3.tar*

/sdcard/safestrap/backup/safe-2012-06-19.20.10.44 {}$
Now that you're at the proper path for the backup you want to restore, we can manually extract the files from the backups. (If you haven't already done so, remember to wipe /data, /cache and /system.)
We have to mount /system, /data and /cache:
Code:
/sdcard/safestrap/backup/safe-2012-06-19.20.10.44 {}$ mount /system
/sdcard/safestrap/backup/safe-2012-06-19.20.10.44 {}$ mount /data
/sdcard/safestrap/backup/safe-2012-06-19.20.10.44 {}$ mount /cache
*** Don't worry if you get a message saying the device can't mount because it is busy, that just means it's already mounted. ***
Code:
/sdcard/safestrap/backup/safe-2012-06-19.20.10.44 {}$ tar xvf system.ext3.tar -C /
Wait a minute or two for it to finish, then:
Code:
/sdcard/safestrap/backup/safe-2012-06-19.20.10.44 {}$ tar xvf data.ext3.tar -C /
Wait some more... then:
Code:
/sdcard/safestrap/backup/safe-2012-06-19.20.10.44 {}$ tar xvf cache.ext3.tar -C /
Done. If you want, you can restore your /systemorig partition now but you probably don't want to do that, not if your MD5's don't match up.
Assuming you just restored a "safe" system backup and you are in "safe" mode, you can cross your fingers and reboot. If you aren't in safe mode, switch over to it from the safe-boot menu before you reboot.
At this point, you should have restored that backup manually. Hope that helps, it's always a bummer to lose your data.
You sir need a medal. That was the best response I could have expected. I will try this later at work. I regenerated the checksum file but like you said, it has to be at the time of the backup.
Hey man, no prob. I figure I might as well do it step by step so that others can reference this in the event of a similar situation. Hope it works out for you.
To be honest, I got frustrated and gave up. I have discovered that on the 7-4 AOKP build, if I lose data all I have to do is wipe cache and dalvik cache and boom, I have have 4G. Now if only I can get a init.d tweak to clear both on startup then all I would have to do is reboot the phone to restore data. So long story short, I'm sticking with the non ICS-Leak AOKP, no need to risk going off the upgrade path and alot less of a hassle.

Great Work !
[BUILD0]Touchscreen, OpenGLES and CWM Test!
Hi Folks.
Feeling Adventurous? Then You Might want to have a quick go this OmapZoom AOSP 4.1.2 JZO54K That I've prepared It's in it very early stages but It would be help if some folks could give it blast and let me know if the TouchScreen functionality is working as my touchscreen hasn't worked for a long time and as such it is some I can't test. If the lastest version of Android wasn't enough of a draw, This rom also includes the work I've done with CWM Recovery.
BUILD INFORMATION AND DETAILS
What's BUILD0?
Good Question, Build0 ( Build Zero ) is pre-alpha release aimed at testing specific hardware functionality and software features.
Hardware - Working
Touchscreen (?!?) - The Drivers are installed so it "should" just work
Archos 3G / Huawei + Others 3G Dongles - The Hardware will be recognized but there is nothing implemented in Android user land as yet.
Hardware - Not Working
Everything else! - To be implemented in future builds[/QUOTE]
Software Information
The main software/driver focus of this build was getting the PowerVR Drivers to function to enable HW Acceleration. This has been achieved not only using the stock kernel modules ( as one would expect ) but also on test custom kernel builds. This is an area along with the Camera that has proved problematic when attempting previous ports and is something I wanted to solve early on.
Hacking On It!
Source Code Info : See Separate Post on building and source code info [ COMING SOON ]
Kernel Version : Archos Stock 3.0.21 - This will change in the next build to use a kernel with JellyBean Specific features plus some extra treats , For anyone interested in hacking on this current build I have included all the stock kernel modules, they can be found /system/lib/modules. Of course the kernel modules for most hardware is only half the story as many devices also require a binary firmware blob which is not included but can be grabbed from the Archos 3.0.25 Firmware.
StabilityThe build seems pretty stable overall but although the incorrect battery percentage do make a it wobble a little
Clockwork Mod Recovery - I will update the CWM thread with details regarding bugs and testing etc but just to say, It's seems fully functional with very few minor issues.
Installation - Please See The Installation Instructions For Details

Build0 - Requirements
Archos G9 SD Version
android sdk / android debug bridge ( adb )
SDE Enabled Firmware ( unofficial or official )
common sense.
NOTE: I've only tested this using Linux , The procedure should be the same on Windows but we don't know until we try.
Assumptions
1.You know how to flash a SDE initramfs and zImage either through the Developer Menu or using kd_flasher from the adb command line,
2.You know how to boot your device into the Special Developer Edition Firmware ( SDE )
3.You have setup adb correctly a your device is listed in the adb devices list.
Build0 - Installation Steps
1. Download and unpack the cwm boot image [ Hotfile :/archosg9-jzo54k-cwmboot.7z ]
2. Download and unpack the system image [ CURRENTLY OFFLINE - AWAITING UPDATE ]
3. Flash the unpacked zImage and initramfs.cpio.lzo using the [Recovery]/[Developer Edition Menu]/[Flash Kernel and initramfs] option in Archos recovery mode.
4. Reboot Into Developer Edition ; You should now see the Familiar CWM User Interface, You should see a couple of error messages regarding mounting /cache/recovery/command and /cache/recovery/log. This is expected.
5. use adb to push the unpacked system.img to the /._ directory on the device with the following command
Code:
[B]adb push system.img /._/system.img [/B]
NOTE: The system.img is 500MB in size and it may take some time for the transfer to be completed
6. When the file transfer is complete, reboot the device either using the CWM UI or adb reboot, The device should reboot back into CWM, The previous error messages will still present, Again this is the expected behaviour.
At this point, if everything is ok you should be able the use adb shell commands. Lets check the mount points using
Code:
[B]adb shell mount[/B]
The output should be as follows
Code:
rootfs on / type rootfs (rw)
tmpfs on /dev type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,relatime,mode=755)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,relatime,mode=600)
proc on /proc type proc (rw,relatime)
sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw,relatime)
none on /acct type cgroup (rw,relatime, cpuacct)
tmpfs on /mnt/asec type tmpfs (rw,relatime,mode=755,gid=1000)
tmpfs on /mnt/obb type tmpfs (rw,relatime,mode=755,gid=1000)
none on /dev/cpuctl type cgroup (rw,relatime, cpu)
/dev/block/mmcblk0p1 on /mnt/rawfs type rawfs (rw,relatime)
/dev/block/mmcblk0p4 on /._ type ext4 (rw,relatime,user_xattr,barrier=1,data=ordered)
/dev/block/loop0 on /system type ext4 (rw,relatime,user_xattr,barrier=1,data=ordered)
/sys/kernel/debug on /sys/kernel/debug type debugfs (rw,relatime)
If you see the message
Code:
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -
Then either you have not followed the instructions correctly or I've not typed them up correctly! Either way something's not right. See the troubleshooting section below for tips on how to check what's what.
7. Next we need to create a ext4 image for the cache and data partitions. This involves create an empty file with dd, loop mount the file as a block device using losetup then making the filesystem using mk2fs.ext2. Sounds like a lot of work. I thought so too, so all you need to do is run the following adb shell command
Code:
adb shell createfs
This will create a 500MB cache image and a 2GB data image. Again because of the file sizes involved this does take a couple of minutes to complete. Please be patient, when the command is completed the full output should look as follows
Code:
File System Image Creation Script - For Test Purpose Only

TROUBLESHOOTING
Ok you've got problems, nothing that cannot be worked around.
Investigating
Code:
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -
If you run into this error then I means that your system.img is not present on the device or has not been mounted correctly for some reason. because of the way the device recovery is setup at the minute adb still looks for it's shell binary in /system/bin this only exists if the system is mounted. Fortunately we still have a couple of adb commands at our disposal, namely pull and push, the work around this issue you do the following [ Example uses Bash Terminal on Linux ]
Code:
adb pull /sbin/busybox
chmod +x busybox # Linux Only - Make sure busybox is still executable
adb push /system/bin/sh
You should now be able to drop into an interactive shellk using
Code:
adb shell
A further trick to make sure you have access to all the commands is to symlink the contents of /sbin to /system/bin. like so
Code:
a s "ln -s /sbin/* /system/bin"
More Troubleshooting Soon! If folks get stuck.
Development Information
It turns out, perhaps unsurprisingly that the omapzoom.org aosp repo is the one for us!
I did some light changes to the blaze_tablet device tree, which mainly involved changing the word blaze to archos .
Once again I've got the powervr drivers loading successful, because archos are using the latest version we don't have to rip them off the device as the userland binaries in the device/ti/proprietary-open.git work fine.
As this is the very first build I've scaled everything back, so what you've basically got is a booting rom to hack on. Apart from the powervr drivers everything else is untested and presumed not working. Also the kernel needs rebuilding to include tracing.
If anyone fancies hacking on this, get the source from http://omapzoom.org and the archos device tree can be found on my github. place the device files in a device/ti/archos_tablet directory.
Use the jb-mr0-release branch, I had some trouble building the development branch (jb-mr0-dev), clearly someone has committed some breaking changes.....
One more for luck
Don't you just hate it when the op does this

I flashed the zImage and initramfs.cpio.lzo, rebooted. No CWM menu, still SDE. What should I do next, try pushing system.img anyway?

Hi There,
That's very strange. This should have replaced the existing SDE Booting Procedure, I wouldn't push the system.img quite yet
I have a couple of questions?
What Model Tablet Do You Have?
Are you running An SDE Rom Already, If so which one?
Is your SDE Official or Unofficial?
Have You Removed The Android Kernel Using the Recovery Menu Option?
Did you flash using the Recovery/Developer Edition menu option?
Are you using Windows or Linux?
Can you elaborate on "Still SDE", Do You Mean It Booted into your existing Rom?
That should be good for starters,
Thanks

I think SDE is official, not sure how to find out.
Windows 7 64 bit.
SDE -> Developer Edition Menu -> Flash Kernel & Initramfs -> copied zImage and initramfs.cpio.lzo rebooted -> held power button and volume down -> went back to SDE -> Developer Edition Menu -> still looks the same.

Ok Thanks Again for the Feedback.
I think the official SDE is watermarked! I also think we might have our wires crossed and you've misunderstood ( more likely I've not explained clearly ) Just what this is. This does NOT replace the existing Archos Recovery Menus. On technical level it is an SDE Rom which can be booted between android and recovery effectively adding an extra boot mode to SDE, This sits apart from the Archos BootMenu Stuff.
I suppose a good way to think about it is in the following structure.
Code:
Archos Boot Menu
Android
Recovery
Developer Edition -----> Android
Recovery
So You actually load the developer edition to use this recovery. Flashing and Booting these Files won't affect any other Rom/Data on the Tablet as the Partitions are self contained in there own image files. So you can easily return to [email protected] by flashing a "Classic" initramfs and kernel.
If You still can't boot into CWM You might want to have a go with the alternative flashing method using adb. It's a lot easier than all that Vol+Down Stuff.
When Booted in android, run the following commands
Code:
adb push zImage /data/local/zImage
adb push initramfs.cpio.lzo /data/local/initramfs.cpio.lzo
adb shell "kd_flasher -i /data/local/initramfs.cpio.lzo -k/data/local/zImage"
adb shell "reboot_into sde"
Thanks Again

OK Thanks for the test.... To use the classic phrase, It's not you It's me , I think I'm missing some layout files, Nice to hear you got it Booted.
One piece of probably useful information I've omitted! You can boot back into CWM using adb, while booted into JellyBean use
Code:
adb reboot recovery
Recovery should be fully working, You can flash zip i.e gapps CWM-SU etc, The sdcard mount point tries to mount the external sdcard as fat32 ( for now ).
once the external sdcard is mounted you should be able to run a backup
No more instructions at the minute I'm afraid but I'll get right on it.
Once again Thanks for the Testing and Feedback, It's been very useful.

Hello,
I've been trying to encrypt my device for a while now. It always just goes to the encrypting icon, then waits a second and boots into CM12.1 again. Now I've tried to use adb logcat, where I was able to find this when starting encryption, just after all the SIGKILLs:
E/Cryptfs ( 229): Cannot open real block device /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/userdata
E/Cryptfs ( 229): Unable to get crypt_ftr_info
E/Cryptfs ( 229): Cannot get size of block device /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/userdata

I'm using CM12.1 titan linked here. However, I'm fairly certain that this is not a ROM issue, I've had it on all ROMs. Any help would be greatly appriciated.
~ Robin
maybe it really is the encryption footer?

(I'm sorry but it won't let me post links yet, you'll have to fix them below to use, I stripped the schemes, put them between LINK uppercase, and italicized the link text)
I'm getting the same thing, I just tried with 20150505 nightly cm12.1, this seems to a be a known issue, but with very little real information as to the problem. I found LINK forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/88973-moto-g-cm11-encryption-failed/ LINK this forum post going back to mid 2014, and LINK jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-4532 LINK the linked JIRA bug which seems to indicate that all the Moto G devices (falcon, peregrine, titan), possibly Moto X as well are affected, but nobody seems to know what causes this bug, only vague hints that it may be a "timing related issue" but no other clarifying information in the now more than a year since this bug was posted.
The obvious conclusion is that nobody is encrypting their devices, which I find bizarre. Once Motorola releases a 5.1 factory ROM for this device (which is supposedly imminent -- they've already released for G-2013 and X-2014 I believe), I'll flash it and test that one.
I used logcat -v long and saw the times, the process kills definitely come after the attempts to open the block device fails. I did a logcat -c in one shell and then a vdc cryptfs enablecrypto inplace <password> in another (this is what the encrypt UI initiates), and the after the resulting softboot (it keeps the adb shell alive, and system uptime continues, so this isn't a hard boot), a logcat shows the same sequence:
Code:
[ 05-06 20:06:03.897 230: 287 E/Cryptfs ]
Cannot open real block device /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/userdata
[ 05-06 20:06:03.897 230: 287 E/Cryptfs ]
Unable to get crypt_ftr_info
[ 05-06 20:06:03.898 230: 287 E/Cryptfs ]
Cannot get size of block device /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/userdata
and then the kills start.
At first, because of the apparent inability to get crypt footer (in the error message), I thought this was lack of the 16k footer mentioned in the aforementioned bug, but LINK review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/86684/ LINK the patch to include it appears to be long incorporated in LINK github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_motorola_titan/blob/cm-12.1/BoardConfig.mk LINK our board's version of this file.
However, as I write this, I notice that the size in BoardConfig.mk does not correspond to the one on the device:
Code:
$ readlink /dev/block/platform/*/*/userdata
/dev/block/mmcblk0p38
$ grep mmcblk0p38 /proc/partitions
259 6 5774208 mmcblk0p38
$ bc
((5930598400 / 1024) - 5774208) / 1024
16.9843750000
they appear to differ by slightly more than 16k (the size of the encryption footer). But yet /system corresponds exactly with the line from BoardConfig.mk:
Code:
$ readlink /dev/block/platform/*/*/system
/dev/block/mmcblk0p36
$ grep mmcblk0p36 /proc/partitions
259 4 1130496 mmcblk0p36
$ bc
1157627904 / 1024
1130496.0000000000
so now I'm thinking that really is the problem (the userdata partition needs to have its size extended by 16k). But then there is LINK forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/104204-xt1039-cm12-nightly-20150123-encryption-of-data-partition-not-working-simply-warm-reboots/ LINK this forum post which claims that the same partition encrypts fine with the stock image.
I didn't factory reset when flashing cm12.1 (from a stock 5.x ROM), which I think recreates the partition (?) So, maybe the partition didn't get resized to the correct value. However if the stock ROM handles this case, I should think CM would too.
What about you? Did you factory reset (including /data) when you installed CM on your Titan? I saw no need to get rid of /data (although I did have to delete some things in /data/misc to get rotation working) when coming from stock ROM and wanted to avoid having to redo everything. Which worked fine... except for this
I have an HTC One M8, and I installed Cyanogenmod 12.1 (I followed their guide and did HTCdev Unlock). For a little while, LTE was working fine with my phone, but then about a couple of weeks ago, my LTE connection stopped working, and it hasn't worked since. So ultimately that's the problem I'm looking to solve.
I had backed up my HTC factory ROM and restored that to see if LTE would work there. That's when I found that it wants me to do an update, but the update reboots me into TWRP and doesn't work. My thought is that to solve this, I will need to apply the update somehow, and if that's the case, then I could use some help figuring out how to do that. (I'm trying to run "Update Profile".)
If you have other ideas of what I can do to fix LTE, then I'm open to hearing them as well.
Thanks!
You need to install stock recovery to enable the update to install.
Thanks for the response. I'm trying to work out from your signature links (thanks for those!) how to do that.
I found the link to the Stock Recoveries. In there, I found a bunch of different versions. The version numbers seemed to match my version-main: 2.16.651.4, so I should use Stock_2.16.651.4_recovery.img, correct?
And I'm back on CM now, so should I restore the stock before doing this? It seems so, since I don't know if the other recovery will be able to restore it.
So I will:
1) restore the stock ROM
2) flash the stock recovery
3) boot up and do the system update
4) update Profile and PRF (I'm hoping this fixes the LTE issue)
5) put TWRP back on
6) restore CM
Does this sound right? And to put TWRP back on, do I just do the same fastboot flash recovery command, but with the TWRP file?
Thanks so much for the help!

Yup sounds correct except being you are on 2.16 there will be a few updates you will need to do to get current.
I went through the process, and each step went fine (you were right about having to update a few times), but LTE is still not working in CM when I switched back over. It is working on the Stock ROM side of things; that's how I did my OTA update. (At least it says LTE in the status bar, so I assume that's what it's using, as opposed to just defaulting to LTE but switching to 3G when LTE is not present.)
Any other suggestions that I should try? Could this be a Cyanogenmod issue? Should I ask in their forums?
And another question if I need to go through this again in the future. The stock software is now 4.(something). This doesn't match any of the Stock recovery version numbers in that zip file. Do I need to go locate the proper recovery, or can I use the latest (3.30.651.2)? (And what does the HK suffix on some of the recoveries mean?)
Thanks for the help again!

If you took all the update to make you current you should have the latest stock recovery. You can always pull the stock recovery from the latest Full Firmware zip.
HK = Harmon Kardon Edition
Do you use a custom ROM? Or do you have a suggestion of a different one? I'd like to experiment with something else to see if this is specific to CM.

Yes that might be the problem. A full wipe shouldn't wipe anything important.
If you have a backup and you need to use it you will be back to the ROM you made the backup of.

I did a factory reset from TWRP, then I specifically wiped the system folder, then I did a full wipe withing the Leedroid installer. Also, I put the Leedroid zip file in internal storage instead of my SD card. But regardless I get the same error. Here's my log file:

V7.4.2 is not the latest version...try the latest and see if it makes a difference. Usually status 7 error means the updater script is out of date (if I remember correctly).
When I do a full wipe I choose Advance Wipe then check the boxes next to cache/dal cache/data/system. From my experience wiping in twrp and then wiping again in Aroma usually causes problems. I prefer the twrp method myself.
I also put anything I'm going to flash on the EXT sdcard.
The 7.4.3 version is only available as a patch to 7.4.2 as far as I can tell. The full download is only available in 7.4.2. Or at least that's all I see.
Anyway, the point is moot now since I seem to have gotten LTE working. I went into APN settings and the option CDMA 0 was selected. Any of the other options pop me over to the Sprint LTE Internet option, but that one will just sit there and not work. I'm not quite sure how I got stuck on that APN. But oh well, since it's working now.
I really appreciate all the help! One day I might embark on trying out different ROMs again, but for now I'm happy that CM is working out OK.
Cool glad you got it sorted.
Hi All,
Device Detail:
- Samsung S10 5G
- Qualcomm Device
- Model: SM-G977U
- ROM: VZW-G977UVRU2ASH7-20190827135903
- Kernel-Version - Linux version 4.14.83-16633035 ([email protected]) (clang version 6.0.10 for Android NDK) #2 SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 14 16:23:48 KST 2019
Background: I have
- rooted the device with instructions given by Magisk.
- I can successfully reboot to the recovery rootfs.
Problem: I am trying to modify the `system.img.ext4.lz4` file to root the device with normal boot. I am aware that it will not let the device install OTA Updates.
Unpack-Pack System and make new AP.tar, flash:
- Without any modification to the `system.img`, I have just unpacked `system.img.ext4.lz4`->`system.img.ext4`->`system.img`->mounted to system directory and packed it back to `system.img`->`system.img.ext4`->`system.img.ext4.lz4`.
- Replaced unpack-packed `system.img.ext4.lz4` with the AP `system.img.ext4.lz4` and make a tar of it.
- Then I have flashed it using Odin v3.13 along with BL, CP, and HOME_CSC.
- Odin has show PASS and I have rebooted the device into recovery mode.
- Done the Wipe data/factory reset and reboot to recovery again but released the recovery key combination on splash screen as mentioned in the root instructions .
- The device stuck in a boot loop.
Tries:
1. Disable Dm-verity
- Removed `avb` flag from `boot.img` with
Code:
magiskboot dtb boot.img patch
- Removed `avb` and `verify` flags from `dtbo.img` with
Code:
magiskboot dtb dtbo.img patch
- Patched `ramdisk.cpio` with
Code:
magiskboot cpio ./initrd 'patch false true'
Patched `boot.img` and `dtbo.img` is working fine with magisk patched AP file but the `ramdisk.cpio` creating the issue: Stuck at splash screen when trying to go to recovery after successfully flash with Odin. Download mode is appearing on splash screen.
So, I have used `boot.img` and `dtbo.img` along with unpack-packed `system.img.ext4.lz4` but the result is still a boot loop. I have also tried a combination of `boot.img` and `dtbo.img` along with unpack-packed `vendor.img.ext4.lz4` and flashed the AP.tar with other files but still the result is a boot loop.
So, I want to debug the problem and got to know about `pstore` which preserve the logs when kernel panic.
2. pstore
- Checked that `/sys/fs/pstore` is mounted by the system with following in init file: Grep the pstore using `find . | grep '\.rc' | xargs cat | grep pstore -n -i` and get following result:
Code:
314: # pstore/ramoops previous console log
315: mount pstore pstore /sys/fs/pstore nodev noexec nosuid
316: chown system log /sys/fs/pstore/console-ramoops
317: chmod 0440 /sys/fs/pstore/console-ramoops
318: chown system log /sys/fs/pstore/console-ramoops-0
319: chmod 0440 /sys/fs/pstore/console-ramoops-0
320: chown system log /sys/fs/pstore/pmsg-ramoops-0
321: chmod 0440 /sys/fs/pstore/pmsg-ramoops-0
- Checked the kernel config by pulling the file from /proc/config.gz.
Code:
$ cat config | grep PSTORE
CONFIG_PSTORE=y
CONFIG_PSTORE_ZLIB_COMPRESS=y
# CONFIG_PSTORE_LZO_COMPRESS is not set
# CONFIG_PSTORE_LZ4_COMPRESS is not set
CONFIG_PSTORE_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_PSTORE_PMSG=y
CONFIG_PSTORE_PMSG_SSPLOG=y
CONFIG_PSTORE_RAM=y
- Check the `ramoops` configuration:
Code:
./sys/module/ramoops/parameters/console_size 262144
./sys/module/ramoops/parameters/dump_oops 1
./sys/module/ramoops/parameters/ecc 0
./sys/module/ramoops/parameters/ftrace_size 262144
./sys/module/ramoops/parameters/mem_address 3241148416
./sys/module/ramoops/parameters/mem_size 1048576
./sys/module/ramoops/parameters/mem_type 0
./sys/module/ramoops/parameters/pmsg_size 262144
./sys/module/ramoops/parameters/record_size 262144
`pstore` setup looks fine but when I am trying the get logs from `sys/fs/pstore` then I found nothing.
I have tried it by two ways:
1. Crash manually with panic kernel using:
Code:
echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq
echo c > /proc/sysrq-trigger
Followed Reading Kernel Logs
2. Flashing non-working rom that cause a boot loop and then flashed a working ROM with rooting steps and checked the file at `sys/fs/pstore`.
I need a favor in:
- Any steps to fix/debug the `pstore` problem?
- Any other way to find the kernel logs?
Update 1: I get the logs from recovery but I am not able to identify the problem.
Logs link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1b-XNmjpYvH-L8lY0xA0SYr7XcITVCrVS/view?usp=sharing
Description: In this video, I have done the following:
1. Displayed recovery logs before: The last recovery logs are ends with 8.
2. Rebooted the device with a recovery key combination. I have already wipe data partition before making this video.
3. The boot loop happens and in the next reboot, I have pressed the recovery key combination to open the recovery mode where logs that end with 9 displayed.
4. Then I have recorded `last_history`, `last_avc_message_recovery`, `last_log.9` and `last_kmsg.9`
5. `last_history` and `last_avc_message_recovery` looks unchanged(same as before boot loop).
6. Then, I just have tried to mount the system but that didn't work.
7. At last, I have just rebooted the system normally without any recovery key combination.

Is anyone have experience in detecting problems from the kernel logs?
i can not help you, but we can collect ideas. what about re-sign the system.img? there is a key somewhere, i guess just deleting won't work but maybe it is possible to calculate checksum
or maybe you can switch to SuperSU 2.79 SR3 (latest release from chainfire) or at least look inside the update-binary shell script how to root system.
regarding dm-verity i would start with searching for "verify" flag in your fstabs and remove it. magisk is also doing some hex patches and re-signing, it's the best source to look inside magisk installer zip update-binary/ updater-script, if you have the knowledge to read code
another option is try to port a twrp recovery from another snapdragon (i wonder if somebody did this already) if you can find a porting guide

Was there any luck on rooting the Verizon G977U?
@Vats12 has already successful rooted with magisk in recovery. this thread is for rooting system (kind of rooting where su binary is placed in /system/xbin like for older devices, which breaks OTA)

Yes, do you know how to do this?
Magisk (guide) does a lot of other things too..
Maybe we can use Magisk to disable the securities and then SuperSu can help in the rooting system?

model see OP! i guess because of the buttons needed for booting in magiskrecovery, but the reason is not important only HOW (for Vats12, not for me i don't own this device)

I don't want to be the one who shouts fake, but the instructions you gave a link to says you have to be able to flash a bootloader first, which means an unlocked blootloader, if you have Verizon rom this is not possible, as the blootloader is locked.
If you did find a way to flash a modified bootloader, or a modified recovery those are the instructions we need, because in fastboot you are unable to do this with a locked bootloader and you are unable to unlock the bootloader on Verizon. If you have a modified bootloader or recovery flashed on your device what did you use to flash it with Odin? Because only way to flash a boot.img is either get into download mode and flash with Odin, or with Edl, if you got into edl mode then can you provide instructions on that, because we would like to know how to get the device into EDL mode as well
Sorry boys this is a hoax.
@DroidisLINUX there is video proof in OP, and again for you:
This is not a tutorial about unlocking and rooting, it is a question how he can modify /system to permanently integrate su
