On my Bionic, Stock ROM has an option to have the Caller ID Readout set to "Caller ID then Ring". I have played with a few CyanogenMOD Roms and other roms but cannot find one that contains this feature. It is not anywhere in the phone settings or in the accessibility options (short of TalkBack but that reads much more than just the Caller ID with no way to restrict to just Caller ID Readout). If anyone has any experience on how to get this activated in a custom ROM let me know. I have searched the interweb up and down for any apk that would provide this feature with no success. Thanks.
I am looking also. Used to have that in my Droid X. Call from fuk head... Lol. I think it may be part of the dialer app.

I searched already for this and didn't find an answer (If another thread does exist, however, I apologize for putting this up)
But, I am wondering if there is a speech-to-text messaging app out there.
As you probably know, the G1 has a voice dialer and voice commands. I'm wondering if someone has used this to make a "voice-texting" sort of app, where what you say gets turned into text and you can send it to the contact.
This would be very useful in a car, especially now that the law (in California at least) prohibits texting while driving.
Is there an app for that out?
I would love to have an app that does this too... been looking all over.
Check out Voice Text in the market. Says it works with any app. Basically it replaces the keyboard as an input method. Comments say that it doesn't work with Cyan's mods though. I haven't tried it myself.
and something that is able to pronunce the name of the caller on an incoming call??? This option is avaible for some nokia, and is very useful expecially when using the earpiece.
Hi,
I was looking on the market but couldn't find anything like it.
I am looking for an app that can setup different things under different circumstances. Exaple would be: disable calls to the phone when satnav is on, or even better play an mp3 (or text-to-speech) to the caller with message (i'm driving now, will call back) or sending a text to a caller.
Also change settings based on time/place ur in etc.
Any app that can setup chain of events if/when -> then would be good.
Wouldn't be cool when you're driving and your android would answer the phone for you with a prerecorded robotic message saying that you're driving and will call back later?
Does an app like that even exist?
I read something about an app that can change phone settings depending on your location, but i don't remember it's name.
Any help would be great,
Thanks in advance.
bump, anyone?
Maybe someone is willing to create such application?
Locale is probably the app you read about. It wont do everything you want but it should do some.
Even though Locale cant do all of those things, they do offer a plug in system. Having had a quick look at their documentation, it should be fairly simple to create one.
Thanks for the responses, i will look into it, if I'll get anywhere with the plugin I'll post it here.
Cheers.
I just got a Droid Bionic today - and one thing I wanted to do was setup some VOIP accuonts with it.
On the CM7 builds (or at least the one for the LG G2X) - if you goto Settings / Call Settings - there is another section at the bottom for "Internet Calling Options" - here you can enter your VOIP account info and thus use the native built in dialer with VOIP. I'm a huge fan of this cause this way you dont have to install or run some other piece of software.
Anyway - I don't see this feature on the Droid Bionic..grrrr - is there a way I can add this feature? I dunno if perhaps one of the custom ROMS has it?
Thanks!
Yes. This. I also want to do this. Let us know if you find something somewhere else.

Hi Guys, the browser hack that wipes Samsung phones is not limited to just those handsets. These guys do a better job of describing the whole thing:
http://www.theverge.com/2012/9/26/3412432/samsung-touchwiz-remote-wipe-vulnerability-android-dialer
Here is a direct link to the exploit test:
http://dylanreeve.com/phone.php
I'm running MavRom4 with the China telco radio image and my device is vulnerable. Just wanted to share the info so people are aware; having two dialers and no default will force the exploit to ask you to actively pick a dialer; this would neutralize most cases but that is a pretty annoying work around.
Maybe people can post D3 Roms that aren't vulnerable.

Also, installing DialerOne and making it the default will protect you as well - you do not have to leave it without a default dialer set. DialerOne is actually a good dialer - I used to use it with my Droid Eris with CyanogenMod ROMs, in order to have the dial by name function that the Sense dialer supported back. And you can still leave the stock dialer set in a home page or on the launcher dock - it will still work if you call it up. It will not be called up if you launch the dialer from another app, though, if you make DialerOne the default.
The stock dialer is vulnerable - a predictable result, based on the vulnerability of MavRom, but I did want to say that I tested it. I haven't tested any other ROM - at this point, I don't have much time to try some out, and I think I recently deleted my most recent Liberty and Bionic Nandroid backups.
Let's see how long before Moto releases a critical patch update for stock.
Thanks, this is good to know. I thought it was only Samsung phones that had the issue, but since I'm still on stock 2.3.4 it appears I'm vulnerable. I have GrooveIP Lite installed on my phone, an app that allows you to make voice calls with using your Google Voice number. With this app installed I get a complete action using Dialer or GrooveIP window so I should be safe if I get a random popup Ill be sure to not select Dialer.
I heard about this "wipe" problem and when I saw it was just passing dialer codes to the fone I knew it would affect more than just Samsung.
Does anyone know if they have a list started of fones that might be vulnerable?
I read somewhere (though haven't tested it...) that the D3 does not have a dialer code that resets the phone, as the Samsung phones do/did. So, the D3 fails the display the IMEI test, but I believe that the reset code does not work with the D3.
FYI: CM10 kexec isn't vulnerable. Probably b/c it's JB (I think they fixed the vulnerability in JB). I go to the site and dialer pops up w/ *#06# No IMEI displayed

So, I found the setting that reads to me who is calling.
So, for instance if Jesse Pinkman calls me, my phone will say "Jesse Pinkman" and then ring.
If it is not in my contact list, it will read the number.
But it only does it once.
I remember on some of my older phones, it would actually say who was calling, you would get the ring, say who was calling, get the ring, and repeat until VM picks up or I pick up.
I am looking for a way to do this again. If not available, is there an APP that will do this?
The reason I am doing this is because I have bluetooth on my helmet, and when I am riding I only want to pick up for certain callers.
On my phone, it is found under
Settings >> Accessibility>> Screen Reader>> Settings >>Read caller ID aloud
I simply did a search for "aloud" in Settings.
For anyone still looking for an answer: Samsung has made it difficult (on Oreo) to enable the function without the accessibility settings that call out every action you do. It has been integrated well in Pie under call settings. However, if you don't like Pie, like me, there's only one app that I found to actually do it very well. Its called Who's Calling. Get it from PlayStore. I have tested more than 20 apps and nothing does it better. I haven't even seen a single ad from it. Hope this saves someone time.
Cheers
