You can check the updater-script of the zip of any kernel of the forum and you can find that info
Anyway, boot partition is /dev/block/mmcblk0p20

I have a Xperia Z, and installed CM 10 on it, using the following method
Unlocked the bootloader from Sony's site
Downloaded the SDK
Flashboot flash boot boot.IMG
And installed cm.zip from the sdcard.
It worked, in fact, I am typing this from my newly ROM'ed xperia.
So, the question is , if I want to install another ROM now, say CM11 or even a complete different one from xda , what is the process?
Do I just copy the new zip, boot into recovery, and wipe wipe install?
Or do I need to reflash the new boot.IMG from the new ROM every time?
Thanks

For flashing CM11
Copy the rom to device
Reboot to recovery
Clear dalvik cache
Flash the rom.
For other rom
Copy rom to device
Copy Gapps to device
Reboot to recovery
Format system
Format cache
Format dalvik cache
Format data(not internal sd)
Flash the rom
Flash Gapps
OK, thanks
So I was correct in thinking the boot.IMG (which is the recovery, right?) Won't have to be flashed again.

That's my understanding as well. So why is flashing boot.img necessary for installing custom recovery?

Ah OK. But am I correct in saying that the (for example) clockworkMOD, or any other custom recovery resides in the boot.IMG
In lamens terms, can we say that the boot.IMG is almost like the bios on a PC?
Sorry for the dumb questions, I just wanna learn some mpre

I think you are right, I'm a also a newbie though..the boot.img contains the kernel (and the ramdisk) where the recovery resides.

The boot.IMG is the kernel itself
If you flashed wrong one on wrong device so say goodbye to the device

Most custom roms include recovery so I dont think you will have to flash boot.img separately again and again
Here's System dump from nokia 5, enjoy.
Link
note: this will be quite useless for now but once the bootloaders are unlocked and i can port TWRP if someone will send me the update.zip that is for Nokia 5.
aboot
Dude, can you modify aboot partition to enable adb and turn off dm-verity and flash using QFIL?

Ota 7.1.2 for TA-1024 is live
Hi everyone,
Just got the nokia 1 - TA-1060
Would anyone be interested in me creating a stock system flasher for twrp? (may be able to flash the files via fastboot as well)
I already captured the system.img, so boot.img and vendor.img should be easy to capture.
let me know if you guys want this and Ill build a recovery zip

Is the processor of TA-1060 and TA-1066 the same i.e MT6737M?
No stock flashable rom with pc use?
Really?
This device has very poorly built OS. It cant even handle even 1 background app. seriously?!! I have used 1 GB ram phones before but wasn't expecting this blunder from Nokia.
I tried to backup TA 1066 rom with Mtkdroid tools and but somehow the backup option was grayed and it says that "- Unknown ROM structure, backup NOT possible! ". Don't know whats wrong with this. Maybe go edition has different rom structure.
Let me know if there is any other way to take backup.
And I flashed previous boot.img .
So it is going to brick .(already?)
please give me system.img ver Global rom NX629J_Z69_EN_WPJ0O_V207
And tell me how to fix enter fastboot only
Sorry for the poor English
Hi,
Here's the requested file...
To make sure, I would flash the whole ROM if you have it.

You can find the new version SD card update file on red magic official site.
Hey
Here's what you need to do.
1.) You should download the global rom for your phone from the official site.
2.) You should flash boot, recovery, splash etc
3.) After successfully flashing, go to recovery, wipe cache, user partition and update thru OTG
So i've tried modding it 3 times, soft bricked all times, can anyone provide a solid guide?
What was your procedure?

Check build number in "About phone" and find the corresponding ROM here

do you have a guide on how to flash it and root?
Extract boot.img from firmware (google "android firmware extractor)
Move boot.img to phone and patch image via magisk
Move patched image back to PC and flash with fastboot flash boot patchedboot.img

I could, but don't really have a link to whatever one i downloaded on my PC ages ago. I just go to google and pick the first one that works with Windows. You'll usually need Python installed and remember to read the instructions for the extractor closely or you might end up with missing requirements for the script.
You can also try your luck with looking for pre-patched images on the web. The ROM repo post and the general help board will usually have people asking for pre-patched boot images. See if anyone has uploaded one matching your build number, region AND update version.
