I just got a notification from AT&T for a new update. Anyone know anything about it?
I got the notification too. Waiting to install it though.

@deepen915, are you going to try rooting this?
Android central has an article on it here:
AT&T Galaxy S5 receiving 142MB update with security fixes, interface improvements http://www.androidcentral.com/att-g...-update-security-fixes-interface-improvements
Mostly just looks like bug fixes. I bet it breaks root though.

Can someone grab the ota and post it? It can be modified to update w/out breaking root.
Why so quick to update? Is the system that unstable on the s5?
Risk your root for a little security fix and stability. I think not. Why not just ask a dev if they can get you current rom stable with a update made by someone not trying to screw you around...... ATT.......
A guy in the comments, on the Android Central post about this update, said that he took the OTA and it did not break root.
I'm still kind of scared to do it though.

That's what everyone should do.
I tried to update...and it failed after rebooting. Not sure if it is because of root. I have nothing else customized... I think.
I am aware that G900F NF/NG firmware enables VoLTE in S5. Not sure if the NG firmware for G900A does that also.
Got this from att.

I think it will too. It's just that this guy claims that he updated while being rooted and still has root after the update. Maybe he's trying to pull a fast one on us.
I'm running Dynamic Kat anyway, so there is no way I'm taking a chance at not being able to flash safe strap again.
Can I have someone dump the modem? Thanks.

My wife's S5 successfully took the update but the kernel version is Jul 22nd, so this will most likely break root or at the very least break towelroot...

I'm receiving it now (regular S6 owners claiming the same too)!
It is still 5.0.2 just the memory leak/performance/fingerprint/etc fixes and enhancements as well as the promised rotation fix.
Unfortunately when I click "Learn more online" it doesn't do anything (yet).

No idea yet. It's about 272 mb. If it isn't uploaded by tonight I'll upload it when I get home.
Coming from an HTC M7 that was rooted and s-off with an unlocked bootloader, how can we install the update if rooted, other than Odin back and risk no root after?

I believe if we get 5.1 then it will kill root, this update just bug fixes. I will wait till we get a rooted update.
I was willing to test if taking the OTA would break root. Unfortunately I've tried twice to take the update but it keeps failing. Not sure if I have something frozen that is causing the installation failure.

I very much appreciated this. I blame AFH. Not your fault buddy. Thank you so much for providing a mirror! I'm very excited for this stock goodness! I've been wanting this as a daily driver until 7.0 gets the last few bugs squashed, and you never know how long that could be. There's nothing like the smoothness of stock.
Downloaded, installed, and working perfectly! Quick tip for anyone wanting a super easy debloat of this. Install as per usual along with SuperSU, and run through the first boot and setup. Then, find and download the cm13 universal launcher from XDA. (google it) Reboot recovery, flash pico gapps 6.0 (arm), wipe cache and dalvik. This removes almost everything Google, including your launcher. Then through adb, install the cm13 launcher. (Enable developer options by going through the notification drop down if needed.) I also recommend mounting the system after installing gapps, and deleting the following, MobileID, setup wizard, LMIRescue security, and a lone browser.apk file (not in a folder), that gets left in system/app. It's also safe to remove Moto.apk, as well as moto actions, and an app similar to mobileID made by sprint... Sorry the name of it escapes me. A clock, file manager, and calendar can be found on apkmirror, fdroid, or play store. A working music player can be found here on XDA by searching for the cm12.1 Eleven.apk for all Roms. If anyone has trouble following this, send me a PM and I'll help you out.
So I could get pogo too work on this on right ?

'Quadrooter' flaws affect over 900 million Android phones
Moto X 2nd gen is vulnerable to the Quadrooter according to this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.checkpoint.quadrooter
Since Motorola never released any security patch and Moto X is out of their future OS update program, what are the options left for the existing Moto X 2nd gen users who want to stick with stock ROM and don't want to part with their Moto X any time soon?
i allready check with Quad Rooter Scan and its possitive the mobile had the 4 vulnerabilities.....the only solution is go to cm13 ....for the moment when the patch is out go back to stock. I hope it will be soon, the news is everywhere so Qualcom has to do something.

Put it on your internal storage and reboot to recovery. Select apply update from sdcard (or something like that). This will only work if you are truly stock with no modifications to the system partition.

Thanks, I was also thinking about that option in recovery if it will work, but never tried so was skeptical.
One more thing, if I update through this route then will my stock phone will turn into 'modified' one or will remain stock? Will there be any problem in case some OTA arrives?
This should leave you 100% stock

Looks like I received my first OTA update to 8.1. That was fast. Hopefully nothing is broken.

Disable all update files with package disabler pro!
Systemless root via Magisk, at least eventually. Soon as we have bootloader unlock and TWRP.
Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk
Got the update too.
Anybody catch the release notes?
Pretty big update with 717mb
Can anyone share your new software version please?
Edit: my bad! It's in the first post!

Curious if it's the big camera update? I'm not sure, but I think Sprint already got it...
I have the unlocked version....these updates were there the first time I turned my phone on a few weeks ago.
Why wouldn't you want OTA updates if you plan on eventually rooting? I've never rooted before, but I really want to root this phone. Always told myself I'd do it on the next phone I buy.
What issues would arise from updating before you root? Wouldn't you have to wipe anyway? Or do you want to avoid any possible bugs with new updates? Just a little confused.
Thanks!

Because many times root may only work for certain software versions. If someone achieves root for a specific version, and you have updated your device, you may not be able to obtain root.
Got one for tmobile/h932 as well though it's just a security patch. Bummer . Would like a stable 8.1 over root.

Feels like camera improving was made like the unlocked versions
Getting a software update on Sprint model right now. Didn't get a prompt beforehand, but assuming it's October security patch.
Edit: weak change log, but definitely included Oct security update.

Guys, don't forget that many times it's crucial to not update if you want root!
