CM / OC - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

this may be a stupid ass question, but i've seen different things on google, are we able to install cyanogenmod on the n900a via safestrap? and if so how would i go about doing that, if not possible fjust say so don't flame, im familiar with rooting/roms just not with CM, and also how would i go about overclocking my n3.

We can't flash cm yet... Locked boot loader stops us

No overclocking either, but you can use apps like setcpu to set it to always run at max speed...it'll probably be h*** on your battery but you'll get a boost for sure

Thanks for the answers guys +thanks

It's all good man. Basically...with the encrypted bootloader, only "official" roms would allow the phone to boot. So if a custom rom was flashed, it would stay in recovery mode. With this, if everything goes right, the custom recovery will allow the flashing of roms and booting back into android. Hope that makes sense.
No risk. We're all here to help and learn.
The reason this is exciting is that it is the first step towards custom ROMs.
To explain further: Recovery is used on a stock phone to help you recover when you have screwed something up by taking you back to the same state the phone was in when you first unboxed it by loading the stock ROM. Loading a custom recovery, if 100% successful would then allow you to load custom ROMs. However, the X also has encryption that requires a signature on the ROM that is loaded before it will actually boot the phone with the custom ROM.
I think there is some stuff that I missed here but this is the general idea.
The one thing I'm not 100% certain of is if they're going need to work on the encryption still or if a custom recovery gets around that. In this case for some reason I'm getting the sense that the encryption isn't stopping birdman.
all i can say is gimmmmeeeeeeeeee
Great job, keep up the good work. Patiently waiting.

This is huge. We should see custom ROMs shortly after we see a released CR.
Unfortunately, we'll only see custom roms with stock kernels, which isn't quite ideal. I'm still enthusiastic about this though.
True, but we will get a 2.2 kernel when Froyo is released for the X and that will make things just that much better.
I say we look at the fact that we're going to get custom ROMs on a device that is supposed to be totally locked down, even though we will not have custom kernels.
I realize we're not going to be able to truly load an overclocked our undervolted kernel. But the custom ROMs are going to rock.
Please pardon my noobiness here, but how does the kernel affect the roms we can load? Mainly can I load a CM 2.2 rom?

kernels not only help.you over clock but it effects the UI also but yea we can expect to see CM because of KOUSH

Nspbass - the kernel is what talks to all of the hardware on your phone and we would have to have an unlocked bootloader to put custom kernels on the phone. To load a custom ROM without a custom kernel means someone has to port CM 2.2 over to the X by making it work on a 2.1 kernel and we won't have a true version of Froyo.
However, when we get the 2.2ota update our rockstar devs will very likely get under the covers and give us a full 2.2 version.
One the + side they do have a dev phone that has 2.2.1 on it so we may see it sooner than we think.
Hope this helps.
EDIT: Check this out - we MAY be able to load alternate kernels in the future without unlocking the bootloader: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aMPUcY71Yc
HUGE PROPS to Birdman and Alldroid!
Latest from koush:
"koush: Nandroid worked on the Droid X. Trying to figure out why I don't have adb in "recovery" now though."
Seriously, nandroid backups are priceless. Great to see that koush is working this!
Its been like 6 days since they loaded clockworkmod recovery and nothing has come out yet...there may be major issues, at this rate official group will be out sooner.
Just wish motorola would have left it stock android like they did the d1

[Q]Is there a good ODIN-able ROM without TouchWiz?

I know someone who doesn't want to mess around with CWM and rooting, just wants to flash a good ROM without TouchWiz. I couldn't find a ROM in the Android Development subforum that was both Odin-flashable and TouchWiz-free. Does anyone know of one?
Thanks
Only rom free of TW is CyanogenMOD. The others just replace the launcher but TW is still running in the background.
OK, thanks. Too bad the SGS isn't really supported yet.

[Q] Gingerbread with Sense

What happened to Rock Steady CM7 with Sense? The thread is closed and the download links don't work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003069
Is there any way to get CM7 for the Hero with Sense?
If not, there is Gingerbread with Sense. I found Sensible Gingerbread on the Wiki.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059481
When I flashed the ROM earlier it would not work, but I'll try again later.
Check out the Hero Development forum. There's a gingerbread ROM with sense 3.5 called Zero Hero. I don't even like sense on our Heros and i think its pretty sweet.

If the browser doesn't work download Opera or Dolphin. Will work just fine. We optimized that rom to run pretty damn good in these old heros. Just don't fill up the home screens and tons of apps or it will bog down.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try Dolphin since I've used it before and it was okay. I don't know why, but I prefer the original Browser.

hey just an fyi we dont talk about rocksteady around here the guy who made the ports was bannanas to say the least matt knows what im talking about lol.
Oh ok sorry.
The Sensible Gingerbread says to flash FR-recovery. What is that? I currently have ROM Manager and the Clockwork Recovery. Whenever I try to flash Sensible Gingerbread with that, it reboots into recovery every time I try to reboot it.
firates is just a tool that partitions your sd card for better memory management theres a thread in development on how to set it up.

The original thread says
How to install(might be a waste of time)
wipe ALL, flash FR-recovery, wipe ALL, reboot recovery, flash ROM, reboot. It is also recommended that you have an s-off bootloader, since FR is a recovery modification. It installed fine for the testers, so YMMV. But be warned, bricks are your fault, not someone elses Also, the CPU frequencies are now 245xxx (needs to be fixed, keep reading) - 729xxx (careful, some phones can only handle 691xxx). You need an overclock method (setCPU, overclock widget) to change the frequencies to 264xxx - 691xxx.

[REQUEST] GB kernel

I'll try to do what I suggested at this post -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2142591 .
But I need to know where I need to start. (Ok, I know where, but don't know HOW). Here it goes what I think, but I need help.
I have ideas, but don't know how to do all of them. So I need help, I need somebody there can help me. Give me some light. C_C
As I said, I wanna "split" gb kernel + cm9. Simple. But, how?
I need the droid 3 gb kernel, and I need a cm9 rom without the kexec kernel.
OR, (and I would very much appreciate) if some of our brilliant minds could expend just about 30 mins to explain to me how could I do it by myself.
ie:
Where I can extract, get, download the kernel. Or how I remove it from other place;
If the cm9 than i've downloaded came with kexec kernel, and how I remove it;
What I should do when I complete these steps;
*if there is a file (look how i'm losted! I even know if is a file, or a folder, .. buh ): ..).
pls. ):

Im kinda lost at what your trying to do, you dont need a kernel to compile just cm9 really.
but if u want to try booting cm9 without the new kexec kernel3 just delete /system/etc/kexec folder and it will boot into 'stock' gb kexec kernel2 as long as you have safestrap installed
If you need the source for complete stock kernel hashcode has it hosted
https://github.com/Hashcode/solana_kernel
if you need the compiled kexec GB kernel im sure its in safestrap somewhere
You would probly need to make edits to cm9 though to make it work with gb stock kernel, it would be easier to use cm7 probly.
I wonder if Hash's old work on it is around?

but the links is off, and ill try to do it by myself. and looking your simple explanation, i'll try and post results, being good or not. but i still have some questions.
1 - as you said, i need to make what kind of edits?
2 - at cm7, what & how i suppose to act?

I hate to break it to you, but that cm9 is not fully functional and without bugs. Just off the top of my head I know it has no camcorder, and no HW codecs and while the photo camera works, it's a hack and takes forever to open and can't be used for secondary functions like scanning QR codes. Also I'm pretty sure battery life is ****. And I believe it has the mediaserver battery drain bug, where if you listen to music it will drain your phones in 2-3 hours, tops
And this is just what I can think of, it's been quite some time since I've ran it. If you're determined, I can check to see if I have it kicking around in my Linux files later, but i wouldn't hold your breath.
I don't want to discourage you from trying to learn more about android hacking and dev, but based on your posts I don't think you have the knowledge to fix cm9, I know I don't.
I know it would be great to have a fully functional better than gingerbread rom, but I'm afraid it's GB or beta.

Cm7 was mostly functional, and I'm pretty sure I have that, but it never worked for the xt860 properly, mobile connection issues. Personally I think it's the libmoto_ril.so, or something in the build.prop, or both. Look into what other moto devices use the same radio as the xt860 and if they have cm7

Tried It
Just from my experience, it works well! Used it while running Elegancia 20.0 (with S-Off)
I did encounter a bug though. After it sideloads the rom for the first time, you need to manually reboot into recovery for it to install the apps or else you'll be stuck in a animation bootloop.
So what all does it do? I know it unlocks the bootloader for you, but does it install a recovery as well, or just install the ROM and leave it at that?

Kudos the dev team for the installer app
Tried it myself on my HTC device. Works pretty good. But it has its faults as the installer will stump a couple of people not familiar with loading roms, unlocking devices, and recovery menus.
1. You gotta install HTC sync to install the HTC USB drivers. Then un-install the HTC syn software only. I had to debug this process on my end b/c the SYC software would cause a conflict with the Cynanogen installer. And was having issues when putting the device in debug mode > from the developer options.
2. The installer did unlock my phone, asked for token and all.
3. During the rom install, it did reboot the phone and caused me start the whole process over again; this happened about 2 times.
4. It does not install Gapps, you must get them and side load them via the recovery menu.
Other than that it worked like it was supposed to. It flash the follwing:
-CM 10.2-20131101-SNAPSHOT-InstallerBeta3-m7spr
-Android 4.3.1
Alas it did not fix the camera issue that has been plaguing some users ( a blue purple tint when taking pictures). Overrall its a good step in helping "teh noobs" in using custom roms on their smartphones.

You know you sound ridiculous, right? I know how and have rooted/flashed so many roms on my Evo that I got kind of burnt out. I was one of the early adopters that had to go through the 45 min, you could very possibly brick your phone, root method. The two reasons I haven't gone through it with the One is I don't have the time, but more importantly, I don't have the patience. This takes away all effort/worry/questions. I was probably going to just let the One be, now I will most likely root in the next few days. Do I necessarily want CM? No. This will make me put it on my phone and try it before I flash something else now though.
That is my thinking as an experienced flasher. "Knowing how" and choosing to do it the inefficient way sounds like you are a hipster or something.

The thing is, nobody's really wrong here. If you already are familiar with the process of flashing, than this is of little use to you, other than checking it out. If you are new to flashing, this gives you a more safe and simple way to go about it. Whether or not you use or like CM, it is still a great leap forward that a development group is taking it upon themselves to offer solutions to problems that plague any user with a taste for customization. And we are all hipsters here, in the sense that the vast majority of device users have no idea what we do here or how we do it. Even more don't care. I think everybody finds that it is easy to misunderstand or read attitude where there is none actually intended. It happens to me all the time. My penny and a half.
I tried it, unfortuantely, it just rebooted the phone into the bootloader and stops. I'm sure it's because I have twrp installed. I have no idea how to switch from twrp to cyanogen.
