I guess you mean a nandroid backup. Loosing this aint bad as you can still flash any stock rom. But you'll have to install all your apps again and all your settings will be lost.
If you've lost your TA-Partition backup you won't have any chance of warranty.
Next time post your questions in the Q&A Section instead and please read the forum rules.

Thanks for your answer and I am sorry I did think I posted in the right place I will know for next time. I did do a nandroid backup but lost this. I did not bother with TA as the warranty is nearly up anyway.

[SOLVED]Black screen after bootscreen.

Sorry for posting here, I realized after I posted it, I usualy read only this subforum, my bad, someone move it please. Sorry again!
Hey, I am scared out of my mind, the whole day i tried to install maxisma's latest ROM and I used switchrom to restore 2-3 times my slacerxs/dwang ROM.
My problem is that I gave up trying to install Maxisma's ROM and I restored with switchrom a ROM of mine and I see the T-Mobile Logo (recovery Works) and them the ROM's loading screen for 10-20 seconds, and then the screens turns black, it is backlighted, but blank screen, and it remains like that .... I tried to restore a even older ROM (original dwang1.13) and it does exactly the same.
What is the problem I really hope I didn't bricked my phone, of course I did all the wipe repartition ext things.
dont do a restore FLASH a new rom not restore you should be fine fyi post this in q&a next time hope they dont flame you to bad

Yeah flash a new rom sign in just to make sure its okay then you should probably be able to do switchrom back to one of your custom mods
Me too
I had exactly the same problem yesterday, no idea what the actual cause was but the only way to fix it was to do a Nandroid restore of a previous ROM.

Thanks, I was 'trigger'(keyboard) happy, thing is maxisma's 2.0 ROM really pissed me off ), right then I really thought i did some damage to my phone through countless flashing. I think imma stay with my custom ROM(if I get it to work) for a while now, this can't be healthy, all this flashing )

In my case by doing a nandroid restore it won't work, I will format my SD now(X-Tremely SLOWW, hard format) and let's hope for the best.
EDIT: SOLVED, a entire format really helped.

Can someone clear a few things up for me?

I'm pretty new to rooting and flashing. My bionic is my first android or smart phone at all for that matter. A couple weeks ago I rooted and flashed r3blurr3d 1.7 and have been running that pretty happily. I want to flash the new SHIFT3R base and one of the PAX but a couple things have me extremely confused.
According to my phone information I am running system version 5.5.892. I'm reading all these posts about the radio and kernel upgrades and that forever root is needed and such and clearly i'm missing something. Do I need to flash back to stock and do OTA updates before moving forward with SHIFT3R and such? I've been looking for a step by step on what to do to get my phone up to date AND running one of these ROMS but im really freaking confused.
I sound like a huge noob to this and I am. Just looking for some guidance.
EDIT: What I think I understand is I need to flash to go back to stock 5.886, flash 7.893, and proceed from there. Is that correct?

Good questions and its always better to ask first and thought a noob, than to come back here looking for info on how to fix a brick.
Alot of people here have great information. However, take the time to understand root and flashing before you go too much further. Root sounds scary but really isn't. Flashing sounds dangerous but really isn't....if you know what you're doing and not do anything you're unsure of.
take the time to read the FAQ's about rooting and flashing. Understand Recovery. know what Kernel and baseband mean. It won't take long. There's a decent FAQ about How to Root in this sub forum. Over in the DEV forum, there are a couple of threads about how to do this.
You do NOT need a new kernel to flash...though a ROM may come with one or require it.
you should understand Recovery before flashing. This is a MUST.
Make your backups. With Recovery and backups, you almost always have a way home.
And absolutely, no matter how stupid it sounds, ASK THOSE QUESTIONS.
I'm new to Bionic so I can't help you with details about this phone, yet. However, I'm not new to Android and I'm not new to Rooting for Flashing. It sounds like you know enough to get in trouble. So, go back to those FAQ,s and understand the basics now, you won't have problems later.
good luck.

I figured out my bionic specific question but thanks so much for the advice. When you talk about backups I hear about nandroid backups and thats something I haven't done, is that what everyone does and what I should be doing? If so, what does a nandroid backup do for me and when should I backup?

Nandroid backup is done through clockwork recovery (CWR aka CWM).
It backs up your entire system exactly as it is so if you ever mess something up, you can just restore that backup and your phone will come out exactly how it was when you made that backup (system settings, apps, preferences, SMS/MMS, everything)

As Tivo explained, its Clockwork Recovery. If you do not have this installed, it should be your next step. With CWR you create the nandoids mentioned before. These are your lifeline in case of a bad flash. You can always go backwards if you have them.
I'm surprised you've rooted and flashed with out having a custom recovery installed. In most root instructions, recovery is almost always mentioned up front.

Backup a Samsung Ace rooted and not?

Bit of a no brainer, but one that I never really thought about, but how do I back up my Samsung Ace which is NOT rooted?
Bit scared of the thought of rooting at the moment for two reasons which are I may brick my toys and I may void my warranty. I'm not bothered about the warranty as its not as important as owning a brick.
I don't know a way to do what you ask. But owning a stock firmware that can be flashed trough Odin its like having a non rooted backup with stock recovery. The only other thing that may be different is carrier system apps which you can backup with titanium backup.
Also making a cwm recovery backup of your original rom is OK cuz you can always open the resulting .img files and take whatever you want to put it in system or data partitions with adb push. You can push everything except the superuser app and binaries and you're good to go.
Consider that if you actually brick your phone, a backup won't do any good because you can't restore it. If you can restore a backup, then your phone isn't really bricked is it?
ace is practically near impossible to brick.
unless u do something stupid that others already warned about like using rom manager, you're literally safe.
mine got bricked, but thats after thousands of time flashing anything day and night (i'm compiling kernel, thus need to test it by flashing after each compile). guess it couldnt take the beating any longer.
but for normal user, root is practically safe. i'd say go ahead and root it.
Thanks for the replies. I'm now serious about rooting my phone. All I know is that it is Android version 2.3.3
Any good tutorials would be most appreciated.

Hello
Its been well over a year since I first considered rooting my phone.
I have now come to the sad conclusion that I do not have enough memory on the phone for it to function normally and I now want to put everything onto an SD card to free up space on the phone.
So, what tutorials can I use to get a Samsung Ace S5830 with Gingerbread version 2.3.3
My latest firmware is PDA:KPY / PHONE:KPA / CSC:KP1 (XEU)
An idiot guide would be most appreciated as I need to do this ASAP. At the moment I only have enough internal memory to install one or two apps before I get the dredded Memory full pig icon.
Hello
Could somebody please advise if the following link is the safest and simplest way to root my phone?

Yes, It's the safest and the fastest way
Thanks for that.
I was worried at first because I used the link on the How-to and found that the zip file had a virus. However I downloaded the file from the youtube site and the Zip was virus free.
Can't bee too careful.
Once I've rooted, where can I go for info to backup my Phone's operating system, ROM I think its called.
And how do I transfer all my apps to the SD card?
Cheers
One more question.
Is it best to do a Factory Reset of Gingerbread and get that as clean as possible before I root and backup the phone?

[Q] how can I remove my custom rom

I'm Currently running android revolution hd 7.1, I notice a huge signal degradation so I guess I need to go back to stock.
Is there any an go back to fully stock?
I've searched for RUU, but they do not have 1.29.707 WWE, and mandrels doesn't seems to work on me (it just restored to default setting for ARHD)
Any help is appreciated

You mean you didn't create a nandroid backup of your device before flashing a custom ROM? You should always do that. I think you'll have to wait until a RUU is released, or if someone is willing to post a nandroid of their device
I know theres a stock zip found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224752. Just flash it and you'd be back to stock. Your bootloader would still show as tampered. I did it and went back to stock as well.

Ya, a Nandroid takes a complete mirror copy of your device (excluding any files on your internal storage like music, pictures, and videos) and saves it in a single file. You'll want to get in the habit of making these before flashing custom ROMs. The backup apps just saves the apps you've installed from the Google Play Store as well as SOME of it's configuration data.
I would post a request to see if someone with the same regional device as yours could upload a nandroid. Give your country and operator details...maybe someone has a nandroid you can restore to.

Singapore, Singtel. I wouldn't expect to find any nandroid from my country given the small number of users.
I guess my my region for HTC Build is 1.29.707.X
Thanks for your help. I have learnt from my experience...:crying:
Does anyone know about HTC's warning about the DRM keys being lost when you flash custom roms? I'm thinking about getting the Dev edition but is anything lost when you flash back to stock or another rom? I know with the Xperia Z, if you unlock the bootloader you'll lose the Bravia engine.

[Q] TA Partition backup on new electronic card

Hi all,
I made a backup of my TA partition some time ago and never took time ti unlock my bootloader.
I had to send my SP for repair, and they changed the "electronic card" (I believe this is the motherboard). The phone was working but it would not charge anymore, so I guess the power circuit was burned.
My question is : will my TA partition backup work on my new hardware ? I don't want to do it again if this is not necessary, I just want to move ahead and unlock my bootloader.
Thanks for your answers !

I would bet that "DRM" keys contained in a TA partition are unique and different for every device. otherwise, we would know what those keys are, and they would not have their said purpose. however, backing up the TA partition takes about few seconds, don't see why you wouldn't make a new backup and be on the safe side. you know, just in case...
I thought I had to be root to backup the TA ? So I have to first root, backup TA, unlock bootloader, re-root...
I think I'll do it, but I'm a bit lazy and I don't like to make unnecessary stuff.

What do you mean ? Maybe YOU should RTFM ?
Quote from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598 (backup TA 9.9) :
Q: Do I need root for this?
A: Yes, you do need root for this to work. I would advice to use @DooMLoRD's excellent Easy Rooting Toolkit for this, when not already rooted.
So yes, there are a lot of steps to backup the TA. Since I'm on .254, rooting is not just one click away, I have to flash kernel, root, reflash kernel.
If someone told me "your backup is fine because the key is linked to that stuff or that stuff and not to the motherboard, so go ahead" I would have avoided unnecessary hastle AND many people would have learned something in the process, like what the TA partition keys are linked to.
Nothing unnecessary, except maybe for your post, right ?

Dude THINK!
The post you link to says to ASK questions about backup TA in that thread, I believe it even has been answered before. :victory:
If you would have used your brain logic would have told you the encryption is unique, you can't just copy the TA partition of one device to another come on, its so simple.
Besides that? Why even bother to unlock the bootloader if you dont want to go through the hassle of installing new / other roms? You know what this website is about? Not about being lazy and stupid but about being inventive and curious. And of course people need to share their information, like I said before, people should take the time to READ, not be LAZY.
So don't be lazy. There's enough fat people in the world Enjoy your phone!:highfive:
Okay guys.. As members, both should know better.
First of all. If you go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598 and read a bit you would know that making a TA backup is VERY IMPORTANT TO DO!
Also read a bit futher. Root is required to use this tool..
And a extra detail YOU CAN NOT I REPEAT CAN NOT USE THE TA BACKUP OF SOMEONE ELSE TO RESTORE YOURS BECAUSE IT WILL HARD BRICK YOUR DEVICE
As stated in the Q&A of that thread:

It is important to read the entire OP/thread to prevent this kind of questions Also read the replies.. They can answer questions for you
Also as an answer to your question:
NO you have an entire new internal system so the files are diffrent. If you havent unlock your bootloader yet make a backup first before doing so and remove the one you already have. I think you will hardbrick your device when you restore your TA backup from before the repair
I know better ^^
OK take it easy guys, it was a simple question meant to have a simple answer.
I should have asked my question in the "backup TA" thread, that's true, but I don't think it was a stupid question.

Thanks, that's the answer I was looking for.
I know TA partitions are unique, the question was whether an electronic card replacement necessarily meant a new TA partition. Does it mean everything changed, from IMEI to hardware keys ? Well, the answer seems to be "yes", but I don't think it was SO obvious.
Thanks again for the answer.
Yes a new motherboard means also a new IMEI..
