Better battery life and performance! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

Just wanting to see what mods/apps you all are using to get the best battery life and performance out of your s5 I'm currently using
Rom: DynamicKat 2.0
Greenify with boost on
DS battery saver custom profile
Lux auto brightness
I'm getting a benchmark of 37000
And I'll attatch a ss of my current battery, i normally go 5-6 hours before I'm below 20% but I'm over 4 now and still above 60%

How much screen on time are you getting? 4&1/2 hours on battery and already down to 64% doesn't seem very good. I'm getting much longer times than that. I'm on Stock Rom, rooted, running Greenify.

same here, i get pretty good life. on very low use day, about 2.2%/hour. on heavy usage about 3-4%/hour. 4%/hour = about 20 hours give or take (gotta figure that screen on time is going to make it less than the actual maximum %/hr)
some days im at about 40% when i get done with my day, others im at like 55%. but still its from about 9am to 12:30am, about 16 hours-ish.

before i bought my zerolemon 8500 battery. i tested stock battery and for every 1 of screen on time, that would be 25% of the battery on stock.is that good or bad?

I keep my screen on pretty much all day it's very rare that I go 30 minutes without it being on

Battery life
By the end of a work day, my battery is usually around 50-60%. On weekends I don't recharge it at all, including this last 3-day weekend. It was at 43% Monday night. I never turn it off, I check it often as I get a lot of email.
I am running Dynamic Kat, just upgraded to 3.0. I use no apps to extend battery life. I turn off my wifi when I go to bed, turn it back on when I get up. Note that I NEVER turn data on.

Poor Battery Performance

I have had my Galaxy S for a bit over a week now and am pretty disappointed with the battery performance. Most days I take my battery off the charger at 7am and it reaches 15% low battery warning by 1-2pm. I do spend a fair amount of time reading XDA and listening to music. I'm currently running Stock JM1 firmware with no lagfixes.
Here's a list of my apps that I have installed:
http://www.appbrain.com/user/Lokhor/apps-on-the-samsung-galaxy-s
I am running JuiceDefender which I thought would make a big difference and does not. I have also set Tasker to change the Brightness level to 20 (below the safety threshold) when the battery reaches 50% or below, otherwise the brightness is at the minimum (30%).
I have heard that you need to condition the battery so I have been trying to do this but it doesn't seem to have had much effect. Today I used my phone only casually and it's currently at 22% after 12.5 hours. The battery use details show the following:
Display at 56% being on for 2h22m and 13s.
Cell Standby 18% Time on 9h21m, time without signal 13%
Phone Idle 7% Time on 7h33m
Android System 5% CPU usage 23m39s CPU foreground 24s
Android OS 3% CPU Usage 13m 27s
Is this normal? Is there anything I'm doing wrong?
Please help
I don't know what others are telling you about conditioning a LiIon battery but you don't have to. LiIon batteries don't suffer from what NiCad do. Some do suggest wearing the battery down to nil and then charging it up again. However, this is pretty bad for the battery and should not be done more than once every 30 cycles. With every LiIon battery I've ever owned I've either trickle charged it or charged it when it wasn't too low and they've all lasted over 3 years. I've never conditioned one.
Anyway, my advice to you is to see how long your battery lasts in standby. Mine could probably last 3 days or more if I don't bother it too much (with sync, wifi and all that good stuff). I find the worst contender for battery drain is the display. The only problem I see with your stats there is that I've played Asphalt5 for around an hour and a half which is quite heavy on juice and it only drains roughly 10%-15%. Then again you're browsing the web so maybe probably worse.
Oh, and when charging your phone, don't use the USB hooked up to a computer as it doesn't stop charging when it's full. Use the wall charger to charge.
no need to worry more

I found that charging it whenever it was convenient instead of when it was low would result in a charge that lasted ~24 hours.
I've noticed significant increase in battery life since I started waiting for the 15% charge warning, plugging it in till it was full and then unplugging it. I get 2-3 days of use this way.
I also set my email to only sync between 6 AM and 11 PM. I believe this helps a lot as well.
since we are about this topic, check this out
How to spot fake battery vs. OEM battery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7953322
so if I'm listening to music during the day at work should I have my phone plugged into the wall charger or just let the battery run down?
Last night I took the charger off at midnight when it was full and when I woke up it had only dropped 5%. After reading my emails quickly it was at 93%.
it works fine either way

I find leaving the brightness on automatic uses up loads of battery. Setting it to lowest seems to make the phone last 24hrs+
I also found that having beautiful widgets clock/weather installed used up a lot of battery for some reason.
I don't use weather because it has to sync every so often to update it which to me is a waste...I'll just look outside. I also leave brightness on the lowest setting wherever I am as the screen is already very bright (why waste battery?).
My experiences with my SGS have taught me to be conservative with its battery. Anytime you turn the screen on, you eat power like crazy. The best bet is to just top her off whenever the need arises. Personally, I have found that I'm fine just topping her off in the car when I'm driving, so that I start my work day at high 90's, and especially once I've got my morning browsing out of the way, I don't eat a big chunk of battery at any other time.
But yes, if you find you are running low, you can happily just take a half hour to charge from a USB port to give you an extra boost. Alternatively, spare batteries and so forth do the same thing, although it can be annoying if you don't have a charger that will do the phone and a spare battery at once.
im experimenting with apndroid now to turn of 3g then i dont specifacly need it. It comes with an on/off widget. Looks promising so far. 40% at 2300 hour and then i have used wifi a bit, played angry birds and talked for about 2 hours in total.

Very less battery drain, what did I do to make this change?

Last 3 weeks or so I have been optimizing to save battery power, read most of the thread but the best I could get was 12-16 hrs, surprisingly today last 12 hrs since I charged it fully, it has ONLY consumed 27% till now, daily usage include checking mails & making calls & xda forum browsing mostly.
I am concerned as to what made my battery so good suddenly as I want to follow the same foot steps, only thing i did differently is that I completely switched off phone (1st time ever while charging) for 2 hrs when the phone was charging.................could that be the reason for so good battery life?
After 24 hrs it shows 38% left (2hrs of extensive use in the morning with music in background), that is unbelievable to me, can someone help as to suddenly what is making this battery life so long?

Your past good karmas
im getting an avg backup of 2 days, with some music, camera and internet.
Maybe the telecomms station in your area just got upgraded?
I barely get through the day.
My usage is when my screen is on refresh all my mails. thats is
My internet use is hardly 1 hr and no music/game for the fear of my battery.
Today in 4 hrs i've lost out 15% battery.
What can i do here..please suggest.

Battery Life Fix?

Alright, so the biggest complain to this phone is the battery life as we all know. Trying everything to stabilize the battery life, i have used many apps but no luck. One thing I have noted after trying to fix the battery with a calibrator (root required), I read my phone using 4.1V. This is strange because for a simple Watt calculation, you do w= amps x voltage. If the battery can only manage 1.5 x 3.7 or 5.55 Watts and my phone specifically is taking about 1.5 x 4.1 or 6.15 Watts, this means faster battery drain.
What I want to know if there is some sort of voltage control app or modification to the power management for the phone to remain within the V3.7 specified by the battery.
I will also say that randomly my phone decided to run no more than V3.7 on Feb 14 and this is what happened. I unplugged at 7:22 a.m and by the time 9:30 a.m Came, I was at 70%, but then my phone lasted until 6:15 p.m or 18:15 after that. And noted that i did regular texts (sent and received about 200) had a 15 minute phone call and about 1 hour and 15 minutes of bluetooth music playback (I use Bluetooth headsets **Jaybird SB2**) and some internet usage. Not 12 hours but better than the 4 hours most of us get.
What are your thoughts as well?
Juice Defender and/or Gingerbread
I use both gingerbread 2.3.5 and juice defender, still no luck. Just going to buy 3 batteries.
I wiped my internal SD and factory reset my phone, that did wonders. If you have GB and Juice Defender and your still having poor battery life there must be a problem that hopefully should be fixed with a clean slate, unless you have unrealistic expectations out of your battery.
I'll try what you have done and then ill let you know. But my battery is crazy bad. how many hours do you get? the percent drop is insane. its a little frustrating because my mind is always on battery percentage and my eyes are stuck to the notification bar looking at the battery instead of "enjoying" the phone.
I charge my battery every day.
I'm running 20C with Andida's 1980mah battery.
how often do you use it during the day? i have read that andida's 1980 only gives an extra hour
I used to get 18 or more with froyo and juice defender. Now I get similar on GB without Juice Defender that's with mild use like calls, texts, web surf. As soon as I fire up a game especially 3D ones ill charge immediately after just to be safe.
I play GTA 3 about an hour-two every day,and my wi-fi is never off
I flashed the Lestatious Biohazard Kitchen Rom after flashing the GB 21a baseband and my battery life is better than it's ever been.
buy a better battery
i brought an hyperion battery from ebay.... sure the battery is a little over double the thickness of a typical battery (it comes with a new back cover too) but the life of it is amazing!! i now can leave the phone (fully charged) for 6-8 hours while sleeping and wake up with the phone @ 97% and that's on the default rom.... best $18 ever spent

[Q] Galaxy Note Battery Depletion Rate?

Hi,
I know there's a whole bunch of threads on battery life, but I cant seeing info that mentions the rate at which the screen consumes battery.
Anyway, I charged my phone from 1% to 100% last night and when I disconnected and started to use it, the battery had dropped by 4% with just 8mins of onscreen time (WiFi).
Is this battery depletion rate normal? (1% every 2mins, effectively around 3hrs)
Thanks
The battery doesn't actually charge to 100%. It's dangerous. The fact that it states 100% is just for show. It actually only charges to around 96% which is why it drops so fast at the beginning.

I have about the same battery discharge rate (1% for about 2 minutes of screen time with wifi). If it is on standby then it only drop 1% for every 2 hrs.

I see.
Thanks for the info.
Just out of curiosity, why is it dangerous?

My Note does not fit this pattern. It takes 6 hrs on standby to drop from 100% to 99% and then 1% drop after that for every 2 hrs on standby.
I too charge to 100% or whatever 96% with my wifi on for 15 min and it droped to 97% no bad thogh

Wow, installed Juice Defender and have just reached the 24hr mark with moderate use.
Usage: 25-30% brightness, WiFi, GPS, Facebook, Web Browsing, Texts.
I still have over 50% battery life remaining
If consumption continues at this rate, I'll be able to get 2 days battery life which from a modern smart phone is pretty astonishing
Battery Life is too short
Didn't want to create yet another Battery Thread;
I'm getting lousy batter life.
I'll disconnect my SGN ICS at 7.30am and it's bellow 30% by 2.00pm.
I know I have A LOT of apps installed, but the Battery shows minimal consumption; it's always Display as the top consumer, with 31% responsibility.
My GSN has an unusual origin; it started with a CSC TTT which is from Trinidad and Tobago. I followed these instructions to the letter and got myself a working ICS SGN.
I was worried that by loading a European CSC would have adverse effects on an Mexican Network.
I don't know why, or how, but after the flash, I'm still with the TTT CSC.
The device performs flawlessly, except for the battery consumption.
Is it possible that flashing this ROM/CSC is responsible for the poor battery life?
I really enjoy ICS and would prefer not to go back to GB.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Yeh mt battery is kinda the same. I browse alot but not on my phone all day but i deffo have to charge ny phone once a day or even twice at times. Abit of a joke and im wondering what else can i do. I have updated to ics and no difference.

My SGN battery drops 1% for every 6 hr on standby however it drop 1% for every 2 minutes of screen time and wifi.
Juice Defender (free)
Gave Juice Defender a try.
the App recommends to allow for "a couple of days"; I'm guessing it adapts.
I've always been skeptical of "Battery Booster" apps.
Having said that, I'm pretty sure I have improved my battery life.
It's not "born-again christian" life changing, but there's definitely an improvement.
I'll try it for a week or so before I decide whether the ultimate edition is worth it.
I keep switching my cellphone off while not using, and same goes for wifi. Using it as a secondary phone as well. It lasts only 4-6 hours.. :S I keep closing background apps, and kill app once im done with it..

Please, X Perf battery performance on Nougat?

Im seriously considering buying this device as it is quite good priced now and it ticks all my needs.
But I dont know what to think of batterlife in day to day usage. Some say its perfectly fine, some say not....
I considered X too, which is good enough on battery for me, with Nougat updated.
How is X Performance after Nougat update?
Any better?
Please share some insights.
Like: percentage used after 1hr videoplay, and after 1hr browsing, and 1hr playing.
Im coming from Z1c with kitkat, which battery performance im quite satisfied ( 6-8hr SoT) and Im affraid to make a wrong choice going for X Performance instead of X, concerning batterylife.
My usage routine is Stamina on, background data off, and no battery drainig social or other apps.
Would like some help in deciding....
This info would be nice to have, as I'm in the same boat as you. I've heard good things about Z5 battery life with Nougat, though...
I get about the same as on my z3

That would be superb.
Is your rooted or not?
And please some more info, your usage pattern, aproximate Screen on Time?
I get a little less usage out of this device per charge than I did from my Z3. With my Z3, I was getting 2 days easily. With the X Performance, I can get anywhere from 1.5 to 2 days depending on whether or not Google Play Services decides to keep my device awake. I use my phone very liberally throughout the day: light browsing, some Reddit, occasional calls (maybe a half hour each day), etc. I found the Nougat update made the battery life a lot better on the X Performance. I don't have any solid stats for screen on time but I think I get anywhere from 2-2.5hrs over the two days.
Thanks a lot. .
So how about your SoT after battery goes below 10%. What does it say under batteryusage, screen, how much hr of usage?
I'm just charging my phone now, so I'll let it run down and I'll report my SoT when it's around 10%
I'm at 22% right now with 1:16 SoT. This was not the greatest run because Google Play Services used up 13% of my battery. Generally, I get around 2:00 SoT over two days and Phone Idle takes up the most battery. If I see my battery draining quicker than I'm used to, I'll reboot my device and that stops Google Play Services from wasting more battery. I'm really hoping this issue will be fixed in a future update. Hope this helps!

Oh man, you are indeed a different pattern user than me.
1:15 hr SOT while your screen says 11%.....deriving from that its good.
But that idle and google play services percentage is bad.
I m using with background data off, just in intervals, and Stamina on, and location info off. I believe it ll get much better endurance in idle that way. But I also leave active the few apps I want, like Viber in battery stamina settings.
Try playing with those settings to get some better idle time.
Thanks a lot.
Just as a follow up: I heavily used my phone last night and I'm at 1:20 SoT (15 hours off the charger) with 70% battery left. Depending on your usage, you'll see much different SoT times
Thanks, that should be 15% used by Screen(should read 50% in stats), and about 15% system, google and idle in those 15hr( altogether 50% in stats).
Well, thats about 6.5hr SOT by batterytests....
Which is not bad at all.
About Same as my Z1c....
Im satisfied with that, although batteryendurance will not be an improvement over my z1c, everything else will....
Thanks alot again, I ll order it....
its about 400€+ VAT now, which is a good price for that device.

Just a surplus note:
My measurments of Z1c being about the same are with background data on.
With background data off I get 70% used by screen on half brightness.
And Much less % used in idle and android system (15%).
Which translates to about 12% battery for 1hr SoT....(surfing).
Gets easily about 8 hr SoT overall.
So X Performance should be about the same also with background data off.
Last barely 12hours to me, not much music and gaming
Just as I measjred, getting 6-7 hr SoT with my usage pattern. Its good.
Wonderful device btw. ?
