[APP][BOOTANIMATION] BIOS Boot for OnePlus One - ONE Themes and Apps

Hey, guys! I'm a recent OPO convert and previous Nexus 5 owner. I'd developed a BIOS-style boot animation and app to deliver it (see signature), but I felt like my new OPO needed the same love. So here we are! Same price model as that app, free here, 99 cents in the Play Store if you feel like supporting me (and getting automatic updates!).
Changelog:
1.0.2
- Lock screen orientation to portrait mode to prevent unanticipated bugs (since I designed the app with only portrait mode in mind).
1.0.1
- Added root checker progress dialog for better feedback to the user.
- Clarified the pros and cons of the installation locations.
1.0.0
Initial release

This is a sick boot animation!

Looks really cool! Now I have to choose between this bootanimation or the ctOS one...

Cool I like it. Any chance you can provide an APK so we can use it with theme manager?

Nice!

I don't use CM, so its theme manager is unfamiliar to me. I'll definitely check it out, though!

Stupid question, will this affect my ability to receive ota updates?
Edit:
Still looking for an answer, but I went ahead and installed it, I love it! The instructions on where to install it could more clear though, just a suggestion.
Because the first option is recommended, but it says nothing about backing up the original or what happens when you delete/uninstall the new zip.
And the second option explains that you probably shouldn't use it, but that it backs up the old file.
So I used that one, idk. Maybe just a little more clear?
Thanks for your hard work!

I'm actually not sure if it affects OTA updates or not. If you use the /system/media location and the update checks for changes to /system, then you will probably have problems. I provide the stock boot animation (ripped directly from CM11S's latest release) during the uninstallation process, so reverting to that should theoretically fix any problems you might encounter.
The first option, /data/local, is recommended because there's no existing animation there by default, so there's nothing to backup or save. AOSP/CM defaults to the animation in /data/local, then falls back to /system/media if it doesn't find one. It also persists through dirty ROM flashes (for example, SlimKat 7.4 to SlimKat 7.6). If you run the uninstallation for a /data/local animation, it simply deletes the animation.
/system/media isn't recommended because of a couple reasons. Namely, that's where the default boot animation lives, so making sure to backup the default animation in case updates check for modified /system partitions is important. Also, because dirty ROM flashes will wipe /system, it's a hassle having to reinstall the boot animation every time you dirty flash. The only time I would recommend /system/media is when you're using full phone encryption since the animation player can't read the encrypted /data/local partition during boot. Running uninstallation for a /system/media animation attempts to find the old animation and restore it. If it can't, it lets you know so you can either fix the issue manually or choose to revert to stock.
If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask. I'll flesh these options out in more detail in a future update, thanks for the feedback.

Version 1.0.1 in OP. Added progress dialog for root check in order to prevent user interaction while also providing feedback. Also clarified installation location information (lots of -tions, lol) thanks to @beastlykings.

Version 1.0.2 in OP. Nothing big, just bug prevention.

Looks great!

Hey, I loved your animation for the N5 so I went ahead and bought it for the Opo. I did notice that it doesn't show me the preview and it's stuck on installing right now, but I'll get it sorted.

Awesome animation. I'm already using your N7 boot animation. Keep up the good work.
Would it be possible to have a single app in the app store that works with all devices you made boot animations for? That would be awesome and a definite buy.
I don't have BTC atm, do you accept paypal "beers"?

OK, I can't get the app to work. Doesn't ever show previews, gets stuck on the installing pop up window, it doesn't matter which location I choose to install it to.

I do have a PayPal, the donation button is next to my name, or if you're on mobile or can't see it for another reason, the address is brian.d.allred AT gmail DOT com.
As for your other question, I've contemplated doing that. My only problem with it is from a marketing perspective. How do I keep my app as "findable" as possible, if you will. I could put my name or handle in the title and just call it "Frozen's BIOS Boot Installer" or something, but that would make finding my app by accident harder. For example, someone searching for "Nexus Boot Animations" would almost definitely not find that.
I might make a combined APK for distribution solely on XDA for people that prefer that. If that is something you're interested in, please let me know.

11.25.2010 - Added a Stock Perception 4 reverter (Reverterator)
11.29.2010 - Massive rework for Perception 5, removed 1.3
12.17.2010 - Update for Perception 9
Introduction
This is a mashup of several different themes and APK kits. I took what I liked from each, made a few tweaks and ended up with this. The makers of the themes mentioned below get all the credit.
Items in the update:
Extended power choices menu - recovery, download, reboot and themed. Based off of CAP_XWJPA_AOSP_lockscreen_extented_power_menu
Android Scribble Boot Animation - GLa'DOS For Perception 5
Theme Mashup - Various elements pulled from the following
---- Dark_Soul[Doc18]
---- BlackFroyo - Samcrow
---- Darknessv2.3 - Reefermattness
---- (2) Manup456_REVOlution_1.2r1
---- Minimalistic Mod - inku
---- smooth-sense_evo1.0.25
---- and alot from Smooth-REVOlution1.1r2_1.0.1_nopercent
HOSTS file - Ad free Angry Birds (damn pigs stealing my eggs)
Battery Options - There are two choices
BlackBatt (SmoothREVOlution/Manup456) - Try BlackBatt, it uses 100 images like other percent mods. Battery life is better when you don't know the percentage of time left

How long would you consider long? I flashed with CW 10 mins ago and am still getting a blank screen. Suggestions? Ohh and flashing on Perception build 4.
2 min max. Thats too long.
What ROM are you using? Did you have any other customizations installed?
I've installed each of these several times and never had this happen.
Perception build 4. I have tried unsuccessfully to flash anything through the ROM manager app. When I flash it just goes to a blank screen. Im going to try and flash by going into recovery mode and let you know the results.
Thanks
update: flashed through CW recovery mode and it went fine. For some reason I can't flash using the ROM manager app. Anyway great theme. Have you tried to flash the a transition over the theme?
Yeah, don't use ROM Manager. It isn't really necessary with the SetiroN i9000 kernels.
Flashing the transitions from DesignGear's thread over this theme, or others, will revert the taskbar and other items to the theme originally packaged with Perception. You will be left with an ugly hybrid.
The changes are in the framework-res\anim folder (XML) and are easy enough to incorporate. I have a build with the bounce method running right now, but it is a bit off-putting. Not sure I like it.
I have a android.policy.jar that enables TapLock for Perception as well. I will be integrating it in the next version. The lock screen will look just like the one in the Doc's ROM images above.
Awesome I really like the taplock better. when should we be expecting the next version, and will we be able to just flash over the current theme?
I'll up it now. I'm dorking around with SetiroN i9000 1.4 kernel, so I won't do much more with it until after the holiday.
It will have the Taplock and Flyin' animations.
How do you uninstall?
Looks great though!

Like the theme and plan on using it. The only change I would like to see is make the notification bar background a little more opaque.

Restore your backup from step 4.
I'm not sure it is customary to include method to revert, but I can work this out later.
If you ignored the red-highlighted step (wink-wink), uninstall Launcher Pro and try plasticdarlow's stock revert. You can delete the bootanimation.zip from system/media to get the creepy eyeball boot screen back. That will leave the HOSTS file which you can revert or leave alone.

You read my mind. I darkened it quite a bit, but the transparency makes it hard to read if the screen underneath is busy. I'll update it in the next revision.
Which battery are you guys using? Part of the reason I made this was to get the BlackBatt back. I loved it when I had an EVO and I haven't seen the detailed version in any other Captivate themes. It seems that the general public likes the circle batt's, so I added it.

Just flashed it and it is attractive. Thanks!
So I don't know whats going on and why I can't apply themes at all. I open Rom Manager and press Reboot into Recovery, which of course reboots me into CWM. I go through the options to find the zip file and click apply it. It says applying theme, but thats it then goes back to the normal menu and I do reboot and nothing...
Its not just this theme though, I have tried Dark Soul and others.. So something is going on with my phone. Am I doing everything correct?
EDIT.. Thats what I was doing wrong. I was using ROM manager to reboot into Clockwork Mod instead of just using the powerbutton option of reboot into Recovery.. Completely different menu when I do that and that worked.
Where do I get this Taplock everyone is talking about?

It is AOSP, and stands for the Android Open Source Project.

Not sure about others...
Please report any bugs to [email protected]
Features:
From source AOSP ROM
Extra mods in the settings
Zero Motoblur.
Rotary lock screen(Kinda defeats the purpose at the moment haha)
Lock screen music controls(Again defeats the purpose at the moment )
Built in USB tethering
Eliot Stocker's MusicMod
Cytown phone
More to come...
Pre-install steps:
If you would like USB to work, and to have the ability to pull the battery and always reboot into recovery(as long as you don't sbf) follow these steps. You will need USB debugging enabled for these steps.
Step 1: Download the files here for windows and here for Linux depending on what OS you are running. Linux and Windows only for now.
Step 2: Windows: Run dopreinstall.bat with USB debugging on, on your phone.
Linux: Open terminal and cd to the folder you extracted the zip from. Then type "chmod 0755 dopreinstall.sh" then "./dopreinstall.sh" with USb debugging on, on your phone.
How to install:
Step 1: Download and install Koush's bootstrap application if not already done.
Step 2: Copy Unleashed30AlphaDX.zip to your sdcard and then unmount
Step 3: Bootstrap recovery, then reboot recovery
Step 4: Mount /system in mounts and storage
Step 5: Install Unleashed30AlphaDX.zip from the sdcard
Step 6: Wipe data/factory reset(Not needed if coming from any Fission release, but recommended, as it may help fix some bugs)
Step 7: Reboot.
Step 8: Once your phone boots, give it around 2-3 minutes before you start using it. Tap the screen every 30-40 seconds to keep it from locking and rebooting.
Step 9: If you get stuck at the Setup Wizard, go back to the "Welcome To DROIDX" screen and tap all four corners until it either goes to the home screen, or when you hit the home button it goes to the home screen.
Step 10: Once out of the Setup Wizard, go to your settings, display, and set the display lock to 30 minutes so it doesn't keep shutting off and rebooting.
For USB to work, you will need to have the USB cable plugged in while booting or it will not charge or allow you to copy files to your sdcard. You can always charge through an outlet though.
When you boot, you may get a few force closes. Always select wait on these. You may also get Android System, select wait for that also.

What you are talking about is hijack. This uses hijack, this is from source. Has 0 blur in it. Stock 100%.
Stock Kernel?

Yeah, it uses the stock kernel. That's what hijack is used for.
Alright I'm somewhat confused. Just to be clear, the kernel that is in this rom is NOT what is included in any of the motorola OTA's correct? If so, your awesome.

Oh sorry my mistake, I thought you meant the stock Motorola kernel, which it does use. Sorry for the confusion.
I'm confused as well. I thought hijacking meant you were able to kick into a custom kernel somehow. Can someone explain this hijack thing to me?
It sounds like the rom is just a stripped apart OTA.

No from my understanding this is very different. This is built from the actual source files provided by google, so it doesn't start from the ota updates from moto. Whereas other roms take the moto roms and strip away as much as they can, this starts from the actual source files from google so it contains nothing from Moto in the rom itself. Yes, you still get the Moto kernel, but this is a big step forward. To get to this point is really amazing--mad props to everyone.

Yeah the kernel is still a big problem but this should make custom roms a lot easier once the bugs are worked out. Full cyanogen needs a custom kernel I hear but at least we can get something close hopefully.

Agreed! A rom that is truly from source I would think should be much faster than a moto rom that has been stripped out! ...guess we will see!

I am really curious to see this rom progress but for now i think it may have too many bugs to use as a daily driver. I will be following this thread though for updates :-D Good Job Matt4542
Awesome! I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere but does it matter if I'm running the P3droid's leaked 2.3.320 software?
For what it's worth here's the Quadrant scores (no overclocks, etc., but it looks like stagefright is on by default in the rom). Yes it is fast.

Awesome! Are you running 2.3.15 or 2.3.320?
I tried this out on 2.3.320. It was really fast and is almost good to use as a daily driver. Of course not being able to turn the screen off without it rebooting is kind of a big deal. Great work guys - I have been wanting AOSP on my X for a long time.
I removed the install and went back to an old nandroid but will be following the progress closely. Thanks again.

Known Issues:
-Transition animations may not work on builds not produced by CyanogenMod Team[default left unchanged].
-May not work with builds not produced by the CyanogenMod Team.
-Problems often emerge when used with "typhoon" builds, none that are serious have been reported, however parts of the theme have not been applied.
-For some users, using Rom Manager's "Fix Permissions" may solve issues involving FC's or "invisible windows" (none have been reported)
Notes:
-Lockscreen is not CM lockscreen it is Widgetlocker[$]
-Typhoon can have minor issues with this theme, such as part of the theme not being applied. I recommend using another rom with this theme.
Instructions:
1)BACKUP!
Theme Installation:
2)Flash just like any other zip.(No wipe needed however it is recommended that cache and dalvik-cache be wiped, just in case)
3)Upon restart go "App Drawer=>Theme Chooser" then pick "HoneygenMod UOT"
(it commonly says that the images are to small, ignore that. Phone users[rather than tablet] shouldn't be able to tell the difference.)
4)Enjoy the fruits of my and others labor.
Boot Animation Installation:
[tip: use R/W permissions in your file explorer]
2)Use a root-file-explorer(I use "Root Explorer" but something like "ES File Explorer" will be fine) to go to "/system/media/" and rename "bootanimation.zip" to "oldbootanimation.zip"
3)Copy "bootanimtion.zip" from where ever you downloaded it to(likely the folder "download" on SD Card) to "/system/media/"
4)Reboot phone to make sure it worked.
Screen Transition Installation:
2)Copy "fold_MM.zip" to folder "AndroidThemes" on SD Card.
3)Go "App Drawer=>MetaMorph"
4)Select "Unzip/Extract new theme"
5)Select "Fold_MM.zip" and apply the theme and RESTART; if it gives you an error keep reading these instructions.
6)If gives it gives you an error(common), reopen MetaMorph and Select "Pick existing theme"
7)Go "Flip_MM=>Flip.xml"
8)Apply theme and RESTART
If Updating:
1)it is not required, but to avoid issues, select an alternate theme for your phone and uninstall your current version of HoneygenMod.apk
2)no wipe required however it is always a good idea to wipe cache and dalvik-cache just in case.
3)flash package as normal
4)Upon restart go "App Drawer=>Theme Chooser" then pick "HoneygenMod UOT"
(it commonly says that the images are to small, ignore that. Phone users[rather than tablet] shouldn't be able to tell the difference.)
5)Enjoy the fruits of my and others labor.

It may be the nightly, but i dont think so....
First tell me what launcher you are using? This theme shouldnt have a major effect on ADW(default) and it none on LP+.
Some steps you can take:
1)Try re-doing the widgets, they may have been cleared, so try removing them(if they are even there) then replacing them.
2)try restarting your phone, and make it a normal restart not a hot restart.
3)use rom manager to fix permissions, although i doubt it is the cause.
4)flash to backup and then reinstall, it is possible that there was a flashing error.
If none of this works, the package you downloaded may be errored by either the download or something on my part. Let me know what comes of this, but first be sure to tell me what launcher your using?

Wait I just realized that "TyphooN" came before CM, This theme may not work properly on off beat builds, and could in fact cause major problems depending on how the build differs from the original in how it has been programed. My recommendation is to switch to a standard build from the CM site. However most are built with the same general construction so there is still a high chance that it would work properly.

fro permissions just go "app drawer=>rom manager=>fix permisssions" its an automatic process so just set it and keep the screen on(touch randomly).... however this is something else you want to make sure you have a backup for, if you didnt make a backup before flashing the theme, now would be the time, just in case... however if you did, then fix the perms without backup, it coulnt hurt ya anymore.

Yes and No, Go Launcher uses its own set of transition animations which you can change in its preferences.... However every launcher has these... the screen transitions im talking about are seen when pressing the menu button, exiting or entering and app, and other system tasks.
If they are not working, then it is likely because you are using a build that was not produced by CyanogenMod.com..... "typhoon" in the past has shown it self to be too different to be completely compatible, so My recommendation is that if you want to use this theme, flash a "normal" CM build.

[ROM] Ouya Plus

This is something I have wanted to do since we figured out how to flash CWM Recovery, it just took me a while to get it working right.
This is not an AOSP Rom, so don't expect a lot, it's just a flashable package that adds some stuff that the Ouya is missing. This is based on the Ouya 264 r1 software.
Changes from stock:
-Added apks - Busybox, Dropbox (should include a free 50gb upgrade), ES File Explorer, Nova Launcher, Pandora, Google Play Music, Superuser, Titanium Backup, and Youtube for Google TV
-Removed Kernel and Recovery flash from the installer
Bugs I have run into:
-OTA updates will still download and install. This will be fixed before the first stable release.
Instructions (shamelessly stolen from mybook4):
-You need CWM Recovery installed to flash this
-Do a backup in CWM before flashing (seriously, you'll have something to go back to if things go awry)
-Wipe cache
-Wipe dalvik cache
-Data wipe is optional, and comes with it's own set of instructions
This is a beta ROM, and I have spent a few hours in testing, but nothing can be fully tested by one individual. It is a flash at your own risk ROM. Don't flash it if you are afraid to break something. Please provide me any feedback or suggestions you have.
I wanted to include Hulu Plus and Netflix, but they don't like being flashed, so I'll add easy download links later. so you can sideload them yourselves, I'm about to head to dinner.
If you do wipe data I recommend for ease of setup that when it asks you which launcher you want to use on first boot, choose Ouya launcher then "only once" and run through the initial setup till you're at the main Ouya launcher screen. then hold down the "Ouya" button in the middle of the controller to simulate the "home" key, and choose Nova Launcher and "always". Enjoy!!

cool, if i actually manage to get CWM installed i may give this a try.
How much of a difference is there between this and ChickenStock?
It's similar in that it's a stock based ROM, but Chickenstock is meant to be disaster recovery, a solid base for rom building, or an easy flash to add superuser permissions to the console, but keep the focus on the Ouya experience. I designed Ouya Plus to be a quick flash for people who want to add some additional functionality to their Ouya, to make it do more than the limited minds that designed it intended. This is an Android console, and every media application you could ever want is available for android, so why should we be denied pandora or netflix, just because the Ouya people want to lock down their "console" to only allow things bought off of their store to work?
I wanted to make an easy way to add extra media functionality and system tools to the Ouya, without everyone having to track down and sideload the .apks themselves. I'm working on an easy way to install some of the other apks that i've been having issues with, and I also want to Deodex this rom so that custom themes can be applied, but I've run into trouble every time I've tried to use an automatic tool, so I'm going to try the last one I know of (xultimate) on it, and then I'll resign myself to deodexing each app manually and see what happens.
how exactly do you flash this to ouya?. I installed cwm recovery.
Once CWM is running, copy the zip to your internal storage, use adb or rom manager to reboot into recovery. The choose "install zip from sdcard", select the zip file from it's location, and it'll flash, then just reboot.
Installed and loving it , thx to the OP.

Nice
Installed via CWM - all working well but controlling some of the apps is a nightmare!
I've got RomToolbox Pro installed and it makes roobooting easier. I also installed MX pro but I can't get any control at all!

That's cool but how is that possible? And is it 50gb for 2 years?

Probably the SGS3 version of the Dropbox APK or something similar. If it is, then it's version 1.0 of the Dropbox, so it doesn't do well with mobile authentication, but if you disable that for 5 minutes, the 2 year (24 month officially, I believe) upgrade is probably worth the relatively minimal security risk.
Thank you
I managed to install your ROM and so far I am enjoying it very much. I do want to let others know about my experience in dirty flashing this ROM. I wiped cache and Dalvik cache, but did not do a full wipe before flashing.
On the first boot i got a flood of force closures on the OUYA Launcher process. It almost made the system unusable as a new one came up as soon as i acknowledged the previous. After about a minute of this they started to ease up a bit and i could operate Android with around 1-2 force closes every minute. I went to settings->apps->All-> Ouya Launcher->Clear Data.
This immediately stopped the force close errors and the OUYA launcher still works.
Aside from this the only other observation i have is that the on screen pointer for my wireless mouse feels "smoother" than out of the box.
Ohh and thanks for the 50GB dropbox upgrade.
Okay, maybe i didn't notice at home last night because i was on Ethernet, but i took my OUYA to a different location with no Ethernet and realized that my wifi will not initialize.

This sounds great! I'll be sure to try it as soon as I get the balls up to install CWM on it. It's kinda been sitting there gathering dust at the moment as I haven't been that inspired.

Did you ever get a deodexing method working (I see ouyaplusb6.zip is still odexed... as is the 328 OTA), I was reading somewhere that an odexed rom causes issues porting, so I want to get my hands on a deodexed OTA to use as a base.

Working on it now... Hope to have it done this afternoon if anyone wants it.
Sorry guys, I've been pretty lazy on this front since getting back from my 2 week business trip, but I may get a chance to work on a new version tomorrow evening. MasterZen88 if you can get the latest OTA to deodex that would be awesome, and I'll update Ouya Plus to use it as the base, with your permission.

Looks like you were right, each app will have to be manually deodexed. No worries. I've created a script to do this so hope to have it done soon.....

Can't really complain it's good. I just have some things I really Wish would work is that hot word detection and also it says the captivate model instead of vibrant lol
thanks for your input. i have no clue about the hot word detection, i've never used it before sorry.i'll ask the dev i ported it from about it. as for it being shown as captivate. use your prefferd file explorer and change these line's in build.prop from "i897" to "T959" and "captivate" to "vibrant" save file when done editing and reboot. it should now show the proper info.
would any body be interested in a full version with nothing removed, have the rom exactly like the captivate? if so i'll upload one later on tonight when i have more spare time.

Thanks for the help. I would love to see this ROM with all the features. This ROM is really great I wonder why this thread is so quiet..
full version is now up(same link) but due to its size initial boot will take 3-7 minutes and will look like a bootloop when its really not. it takes a while for every thing to load up as well as settle in, so once booted adjust your settings sign in to google then reboot. let the phone settle for few more minutes then start going about your usual setting up/installing routine. rom is signed this time and uses fluid kernel v1. enjoy folks!

Very fast and stable ROM. Only problem I have so far is with Google Calendar synchronization.
Edit: cleared app's cash. Now is OK.
