Hey guys,
I'm new to android.. good riddance iPhone. I am a technically saavy I/T Guy and have already unrooted my captivate and figured out GPS and whatnot. However, I have scoured Google and can't find the answer to a simple question. "Do I need to unroot prior to the OTA JH7 update?"
Thanks for your help,
Trums

i dont think you'll need to unroot the phone but I *think* you'll lose your root once you update....please correct me if I'm wrong, though.

This is correct. All the apps will be there except superuser and the root will be gone.
I did this myself and after the update went ahead and wiped the phone (factory reset) anyway. I wanted to make sure I didn't have anything lingering..
thanks

Do you have still have the 12 MB file you got as a result of the OTA update. If so, can you upload it.

+1, please upload if available. I dont know why att just doesnt let us download it from the website.
sorry gents.. I don't have the file yet.. will upload when I get it.
You can always re-root afterwards...
Does the original root method work with jh7? I'm not really interested in the super rooter type all-in-ones.

the update is simply JH7, JH7 has been available for most of us for over a week
grab it from samfirmware if you really want it now

That's where I got mine.. www.samfirmware.com
you will have to sign up for an account but its worth it.
You will have to flash using ODIN. Make sure you get the PIT file located at the bottom of the firmware page too..
Plus once you have the account, you can always flash newer firmwares when they come out...
I know about the leaked JH7. I am running it now. I am only interested in the official JH7 update file, just to compare the two versions.

I am not sure what happened but I just downloaded the update using the check for updates on the phone, it started to install, rebooted the phone then gave me this message:
"The update was not completed.
No update was applied to your phone"
my phone is rooted, lag fix, side load and I did not try to undo any of that stuff.

The same thing happened to me, but when I go my phone settings I show the following:
Baseband version:
1897UCJH7
So do we have to flash back to stock to get this upgrade?
I wasn't too hopeful that our rooted, lagfix-ed phones would play nice with the OTA anyway.

weird, mine still says I897UCJH2
I would like to find out what I need to undo or change (hopefully not reflash) to get the update to install.
First of all thanks to kokbiel for discovering this!
Do not try this if you have an unlocked bootloader or if you dont know what your doing! I'm not resposible if you break or brick your phone!
If you're allready on a rooted .181 or .184 and OTA update is available for you just update your firmware. If there is no OTA update available for your customazation version follow these instuctions:
- flash back to 3.0.A.2.181 generic with the flashtool
- Use Gingerbreak or Superoneclick to root your device
- Update your Arc using a OTA(over the air) update(Go to settings->About phone->Software update)
- Enjoy your rooted 2.3.3!!!
Update 1: it seems that the OTA update is not working if you did any modifications to/deleted system files so it's adviced to always flash the .181 firmware provided in this post
Update 2: if you have any battery problems after flashing the .181 firmware(if it's only showing 1%) removing the battery for a few minutes should solve this
Update 3: thanks to ricstc we now have a video tutorial on how to follow these instructions
Update 4: if you want you can keep your user data by unchecking the whipe user data in the flashtool while selecting the correct ftf file. this will cause a lot of error message's on 2.3.2 but just click them away and continue the procedure, after upgrading again to 2.3.3 the error message's will be gone!
Update 5: this methode still works with the new 4.0.A.2.368 firmware! if you don't get the OTA update with the provided .181 firmware try flashing the .184 firmware and try the OTA again
At the moment there are a lot of battery problems when you downgrade from 2.3.4 if you have any problem follow this or this thread for a possible solution
In general how long did it take for Gingerbreak / superoneclick to do its stuff.
iv been waiting about 5-10 minutes with nothing. :S

i have no choice! using GOOD for enterprise on my Arc, and it only allows usage if its on an unrooted device.
thinking of doing the root on 2.3.2 first, OTA update as you mentioned, then while still rooted, remove some of those unused SE Apps to free up ram, before unrooting and installing GOOD for enterprise.

Apart from that, it was a fresh install.

I understand, but this happened to me before, it was because I have rooted my device. Try installing from PC with PC Companion
I unlocked my bootloader without saving the TA partition, and because of that I cannot to OTA updates.

Best Buy (Samsung) doesn't have the KitKat files yet. I went to my local BB store and they told me that didn't have the official file yet. Also, AT&T will not flash your phone either. I tried that one, too.
Has to be a att service center and both can re flash NB4 for you if you flashed the kk leak you need to do the mj5 restore first then go see them

Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade my phone from android 5.1.1 to 6.0.1. I have follow this thread to do this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...e/downloading-flashing-att-galaxy-s6-t3260744
I was able to upgrade my phone from G890AUCU2AU2AOF4 to G890AUCU3BOJE using ODIN. But I can't upgrade from G890AUCU3BOJE to a newer firmware.
I get the error below when I try to apply this upgrade "SS-G890AUCU3BOJE-to-U3BPB3-UP"
adb like in option 3
Code:
Option 3 - v3 (G890AUCU3BOJE) to v4 (G890AUCU3BPB3) update file (85,9 MB)
I'm getting the error below
Code:
"/system/SW_Configuration.xml" has unexpected contents
E: Error in /sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
I have read your link regarding thet status 7 error, but I don't find a solution.
Can you help me ?
You can see a screenshot of the error using the address below :

Oh, OK.
Messed up CSC configuration causes this error. Try this;
Flash the latest Odin-Flash available FW via Odin. After you've flashed, do factory reset from stock recovery. Then, when the phone boots up, just reboot to bootloader and flash the latest Odin-Flash available FW via Odin again. When the phone boots up, do factory reset from Settings application. After the phone boots up, try to install update via ADB.

We have to wait until ATT makes it available to get the OTA or update via Smart Switch.
There's another thread in here on how to use Odin and load MM, but it's not the 'official' way.
