[Q] Formatting Windows 8 - Off-topic

Hello all,
I want to format Windows 7 and install Windows 8. I booted from the USB and went to the page where I can select which drives to format. I have 2 1 TB drives. The C drive which has windows and I want to format it and the D drive which has all my back up photos, music and videos. I deleted the system cache which is 100 mb and I don't know which of the two drives is the one that has windows. Is it in an alphabetic order. C drive is first and then D drive is below it?
Sent from my SM-G900H using XDA Free mobile app

Yup.
The "C drive" contains the Windows operating system.

I know that. But on the installation screen it says Disk 1 and Disk 2. I want to know which of these is Disk C

I believe it should say more than that.
Does it say the amount of storage after selecting the disk or anything like that?

Yes it does say but they are exactly the same size and have the same free space.

I would unplug your external(?) storage device (drive D) to see if the first one is the C drive.
Personally, I think the C drive should be on top as it could be in the order by drives.

Uh, the Windows install always displays the drive letter. (Even the pirated ones.) And usually even the name of the drive.
Can you still get to the device manager? If so, it has a partition manager which'll list which drive is which.
If not, boot into BIOS. Check which one is set as the boot device, that one's C:/.
Also, you can disconnect an internal harddrive.. Just open the door and pull out the cable... (I always do that on a Windows install to prevent conflicts and potential data loss. (even on my laptop. My Asus grants full hardware access.).)

It is not my computer. The menu is like this.
And when I try to go to BIOS is requires a password and my friend says he doesn't know it.
We can't boot the current windows because we deleted the first small partition.

Make sure you´ve backed up any data you need and delete both partitions. Then click on the unassociated space and select "new". Proceed with the installation.
OH THE SCREEN IS NOT FROM YOUR INSTALLATION? Thought that were you´r partitions -.- Don´t proceed please post a pic of YOUR screen.

No it's not the same. It depends in which sata plug the harddrive is plugged on your motherboard. It's not alphabetical. Just look at the free space and think how much data you've got on your d:/ that's the only way.

Looks like I am out of luck. I've already deleted the small partition which boots up windows so I can't see how much memory each drive has. Thanks anyways

The "system reserved" partition is the backup one. I have a very similar configuration to that. The partition you want to format is the second, the one that says "primary". Also, windows couldn't be installed in a ~300-400mb partition.

I'm sorry you are not understanding it. I of course see that free space. But I don't know which of these disks is C. Because when I started to install windows, I didn't go to Computer to see how much free space Disk C has so I can easily recognize it on the installation screen. And I can't check it because I can't boot windows anymore.

I fried my memory card and now im screwed.....

My memory card got fried and all the games that i had transferred to SD are gone as well. I thought this would be a simple process of buying a new SD card in which I did and reinstalling the app. WRONG.... everytime I try to reinstall the games that were lost my phone would say "REPLACE APPLICATION" and of course I would select OK, it would go thru the entire motions of installing and then in the end would say "APP NOT INSTALLED". So apparently even if the games were lost when my SD card got fried there are reminants left somewhere on the Phone. Does anyone know exactly where i would be able to find the reminants of these games so I can reinstall it without any problems ?

What about using the amazon marketplace on your pc to push it? Not sure if amazon has this function because I don't use amazon.

How fried is the sd card? Data recovery is pretty good with solid state if it is just a partition/mbr/fs/vol issue. If it is truly done and won't show up at all in disk management, then probably done. But if it shows up at all in management, even if it has no partition info or raw, it should be recoverable.

just re-install via amazon appstore.
Did you wipe dalvik and cache?
Several system cleaners in the play store that cleanup left over app stuff. Try one.
If none of these work, the entries that need to be deleted are in a config file somewhere, no clue which one.
Use TiBu to back up your settings and data, wipe and reflash phone.

[Q] Best Way to Backup or Transfer Files?

A couple of days ago my phones free space got down to 1.5GB and I figured I should back it up to free some space. What a pain it turned out to be!
As most of you know we can only transfer as MTP and PTP and I presume this is where most of the problems come from..
1. File identification is slooooww.
2. transfer time literally freezes at the initial transfer to my HDD. making it impossible to drag and drop another set of files
3. I dont believe all of the files were discoverable (aka hidden)
Please post any and all methods/apps/MODS etc. that may help in this kind of process! Thank you.
p.s. I am using Windows 8

I've found it easiest to take out the MicroSD card and put it in an adapter and put it in my laptop or desktop and push files to and from it. Works a TON faster than using the USB cable to the phone.
Assuming everything is on the external SD card.
For anything internal, adb root, then adb pull everything you want. (Make sure the phone is plugged into the original AC charger - it's going to take a while if you pull a lot of files.)
1.5GB left? And I thought I was a software junkie. I still have 23GB free (internal), and there's still loads of stuff I installed to find out why someone was having a problem and haven't uninstalled yet.
For me i only use cabe conection to use odin. For transfearing files i use mmc card reader. Very easy.

Okay. But what if I want to transfer directly from the internal memory? I only just put in an mSD card since the phone got full. Do you push everything from internal to SD then take the SD out and put it in a PC?

Excess Deleted Items On Phone

Yesterday, I used one of those retrieval apps to get back a couple pics that were accidentally deleted. But when it finished, it shows I have a little over a thousand pics alone that have been deleted, along with numerous other items.
How can I deleted those things in there? Will that free up any space on my phone (not having storage problems now, but would just like to have the space available)?

i would think sense they are deleted they are not taking up space that just like in windows the address of the files are erased allowing a new file to be written to that area the reason you can see them with the recovery progam is because nothing has overwritten where the deleted files are

I just wasn't sure, being that Android and Windows are two different systems. It also surprised me at the amount of stuff that's in there that can be retrieved.

Curious about Screen shots and such

Just curious, is there a way or an app, or a script or something to have the ability to just have screen shots, downloaded pics and what not to save to your external SD card by default? I usually have about 100+ that I have to manually move every time I flash a rom..

No I don't wipe that, but it's my fearful OCD that my phone will just up and die and I will lose my SS's. I really hate using the "cloud". Don't trust that crap that much.
So use two clouds. It is very unlikely they will fail at the same time plus it will automatically synchronize with your pc. Dropbox gives 50 gig for new note users, google drive another couple gigs, same microsoft, Amazon, box, samsung cloud. SD card can fail too.

meh, it's not about the "horse" drinking water. It's is simply about seeing if there was something out there that would allow me to just have my screen shots and downloaded pics go directly to my SD card. It's my choice not to use the cloud. Personal reasons. Hence why I am here asking for some app or something.
Screw the cloud. I'm old Skool too. Now where's mg 5.25 inch floppy.

Try this instead.
Install folder sync and set up an account for your network drive via smb or cifs....
Then create folder pair between your account and your sdcard, with your desired sync settings.
Then use Tasker to initiate the folder pair.
This is how i do it and it works great
