[App] XBMC Remote Control for Windows Phone 7

Hello all,
I have recently created a new XBMC Remote App because well I like programming
It's cheaper than the ones available and works with XBMC 10.0+. I have created some extra featurs that I thought would be useful which weren't present in the other apps.
Pictures:
The app has full support for pictures, you can download them from XBMC right to your phone, watch a slideshow on your phone and have extensive controls when playing them on the Media Center, like zooming and scrolling ....
Library updates: With one click of the button you can update your music / video library
Subtitles: A button is available to open the subtitles window and select the subtitle you'd like (very handy for us non-native english speakers)
Furthermore, all the basics are available: browsing libraries, remote control, ...
Please let me know iwhat you think of it and if you have any good ideas about new features, requests. I'd be glad to work out something.
Here's the deep link to the application in Zune: windowsphone.com/s?appid=9a2f8f94-5dae-e011-a53c-78e7d1fa76f8
Looks good, lots of nice features, would really like to trial it first though, it's quite important for apps like this.
Can you view the most recent movies, tv episodes? Can you pull up info on the currently playing media?
Thanks for the hard work!
Hello,
I have just submitted an update with trial mode enabled. It should be available in a few days. There's a now playing feature and in the next release I have some extensions planned on that.
Currently there are no recent items collections, but I'll add it to the feature requests and I think I'll be able to add it to the next version as well.
If you can, please check out the trial version and let me know what you think.
(The trial version has complete functionality but it only shows you a few items)
Many thanks in advance.
Does this app have the gesture-mode for the arrow-keys?
Used the android-one before, never got used to the normal key-mode.. you always have to look at your phone...
because of that i still use my android-device for remoting my XBMC Notebook...
Hello,
Gesture mode is not included in this version. I'll take a look whether I can fit it in the next release though.
In a few days an update should appear with a trial-mode so you can try out the remote. I have focussed a lot on the usability of the remote and made large buttons which have audio and/or haptic feedback so you still might like it.
Sorry, we don't allow paid apps here.

File Manager?

Has anyone found out if there is a File Manager? One which can access network shares on a wlan? Or one available as an app?
If no, sticking with Android...
There is no local File Manager. Apps that can access remote Network Shares are already available on WP7.5. Given that WP8 allows Apps to launch other Apps that support certain file types you could use one of those Apps (when they are updated to WP8) to grab a Video from your NAS-Box and launch it in the built in Video Player.

Great, thanks for the info. Could not find it googling. And you guessed what I'd like local and/or network share access for: playing media at home from the NAS. Will need to check out Windows Phone 8 at a store, maybe upgrade the phone hardware soon.

Most NAS boxes currently support UPnP or DLNA servers. This can be played through various software. Before jumping in I'd still wait to see if the required Apps are updated to allow for a seemless transition because at release the Apps are almost certain to not have been updated (given that the SDK was just released yesterday). So the possibility is there but at the moment the Software isn't really.
Might be worth checking wether your Media Files are currently stored in a format supported by the phone, given that similar to iOS WP is pretty picky when it comes to file formats.

miracast and xbmc

was thinking about this possibly being a sweet setup hopefully miracast will be implemented into the device or possible being implemented into xbmc having that along the airplay option on xbmc enabled would make this a pretty sweet device
i purchased(preordered one) but I was hoping it would be more so like a media center device kinda like google tv but no hdmi out so no google tv overlay. But if I could use this to do miracast with my 4.2 sgs3 and whenever friends come over can use xbmc to allow them to do airplay that would be really cool
reason i bring up miracast support is because supposedly is supported in tegra 3
i've been trying to figure/find out how you go about setting up a miracast server but the documentation doesn't seem to exist not saying that i have the ability to implement but i wouldn't mind taking a look into it
thoughts?
This is more of a question for xbmc team. I suggest you provide that feedback on their forum. There was a talk of xbmc supporting miracast but no eta.

As long as it supports PLEX, I am sold!

I've heard the documentation costs around $200 and that might not even be all of it. Or I might be pulling that number out of air, don't remember where I saw that, but did find this:

I am more interested in seeing the Android Transporter Player ported to Ouya, except that they haven't released their source code on the sending side yet...

I'm not from familiar with Miracast. All I know is what the Wiki page said. It really reads like DNLA. And from my experience, this has been something that can be app dependent. Since I have no experience with Miracast, I don't know if it's full mirroring or just certain apps.
That said, Miracast may just be work versus just installing individual apps. Unless there is something in the application code for specific devices, if you side load an APK, it should run on the Ouya. Doesn't mean it will run well or look correct. Thus, you may be able to just side load XBMC. I know I'll try it with Plex, Netflix, Hulu, various sports--MLB, NHL, NBA, etc--and so on.
I couldn't figure out what the end result you were suggesting about friends coming over and their mobile devices.

I believe Miracast is primarily for screencasting - ie it just mirrors what is on the device's screen onto the TV or whatever is receiving. And I believe the previous poster was saying that it would be nice if it is easy to screencast from your phone to the TV and allow visiting friends to be able to easily screencast their content as well - so if one person has a video they want to show everyone, it's not a hassle to pull it up on the big screen. I think this is what a lot of us want.

CCast is capable of mirroring but it does not use Miracast to do so and currently Google has not supported the feature yet.
We KNOW it is capable of doing it as it does it on the PC side in the Googlecast Ext for chrome.
I do expect they will support it in the future and if not them then some 3rd Party Dev will make it and Google will hopefully white list it.
Mirroring has some concerns over Privacy and I'm sure Google doesn't want to allow an unsecure implementation that could get the bad rep of being a privacy problem and send the concept into the scrap heap.

LOL it's hard enough to get people to read and search for previous posts that have solved their problem here... you expect them to start using Google too?
Just FYI to everyone....we KNOW the CCast can do Mirroring as the GoogleCast Ext for chrome does this already on the PC. Unfortunately the holdup on seeing this on the Android side is not the Chromecast but Chrome itself!
The Mobile versions of Chrome do not at this point support Chrome Extensions which means you can't run the Googlecast extension at this time.
If you have a PC click on the Googlecast icon, Look in the upper right hand corner of the menu it presents click on the little down arrow, and see that you can Cast an Entire Screen (noted as Experimental).
So the CCast has this capability!
Just a matter of creating an App for Android and iOS that does this, Making it secure for Privacy concerns, and Whitelisting it.
The fact they are experimenting with it on a PC tells you everything you need to know about Google's Intentions regarding Mirroring.
It's coming the only thing we don't know is when!

Chrome app "Videostream for Google Chromecast™" (rebranded "Chromecast Video")

Chrome app "Videostream for Google Chromecast™" (rebranded "Chromecast Video")
Chromecast Video v1.0.1 is gone from the Chrome Web Store. It has been replaced by Videostream for Google Chromecast™ 1.0.4:

After some Google drama, we're back up and running. Turns out they hated that our icon was so cleverly similar to their Chrome icon. We're back now, better than ever after being pulled for 3 days.

BTW: you can have both version installed.
Too bad, I though the old name was kind of catchy.
No other changes? I guess we can wait for the next update then.

The old name violated Google's Terms of Service I would imagine as well.
It very much violated many Google's branding guidelines haha.
Edit:
The latest update basically just updated the icons, etc... and added some share buttons.
Is there any way to control Videostream from a remote device? I've dabbled with RemoteCast but it didn't seem to pick up on the Videostream content.
Great app! Keep up the good work!
Anyway to add time stamps along with forward/rewind 30 seconds etc

Can't get it to work
I'm trying to launch the app from my chrome browser and it keeps giving me an error saying that we can't connect to your chromecast. I checked the list and I have Chrome browser installed on my laptop, google cast extension as well and both are using the same wifi. I just don't know why it is happening to me. I even disabled my kaspersky internet security, but no luck at all....Is anyone having the same issue with me ?

App Needs Launch Button
Great aoo Works flawlessly but have to go to Web Store to launch. No launch button in chrome toolbar,
I really like the app Videostream for Chromecast. However, there is not a button on the toolbar that allows me to launch it from chrome directly. I have to go to the Play Store and launch from there. Anyone else have this problem? I have not been able to find any references about this problem on any forums.
It's an app not and extension. I find the open apps button on the bookmark bar, and it's there.
More info HERE or you can add a button HERE
I see we have an end time on the timeline now!
Oh-- it should be in your Start menu / Spotlight.
