Hi,
Windows 8.1 Nokia 630 - I've edited some details in a Contact that had nothing to do
with the phone number format but now the phone starts a new thread when receiving
texts or sms from that number - I even restored the original contact backup file I had
and still the phone ignores the previous year long conversation and decides to create
a new one.
I'm used to jailbreaking and modifying file systems on android - is there a way to access
the old sms conversation, and copy it somehow over the new one so the phone will
include the previous messages as well?
Someone pls help with this situation, it's really frustrating - I've already lost some messages
this way when upgrading from Nokia 520 -> 630 the very same way, messages from
same number were opening in a new thread and previous ones were ignored.
Many thanks for any ideas!

Im afraid im a bit of a saddo and like to keep a number of text messages (mostly sms some mms) on my phone (well 300 or so to be exact). these are currently on my nokia n80 which is now replaced by a diamond from orange.
is there a way that i can drop the messages into the diamonds text database?
sorry if this has been asked and answered elsewhere, i couldnt find it.
Hi there, I just want to know if there is a way to restore my sms backup done with Backup for Root Users from Hero 1.73 builds into the new 2.XX (2.73 or 2.83, mening JACs 1.7r2 or 1.5.2) builds. I know how to use terminal or Gscript. The problem is that if I restore in any of the new 2.73 or 2.83 builds my sms application get screw the moment I receive a txt. I guess that the way to handle the sms database on the phone change from 1.73 to 2.XX builds.
Notice than when the restore is done I can assess the old sms without problems. All conversations are there and I can see them. As soon I receive or sent a txt I can no longer see the conversations in the messages app. I don't even get the chance to see the new txt. The only thing I get is a notification with the leds, but no notification in the top bar, sound or anything else that a txt arrived.
I can see still see the old txts in chompsms, but only the old messages, not the new one that arrived. In the messages application I can not enter any conversation because it hangs in a loading screen.
Backup for root users create a mmssms.db file that is restored somewhere in the phone. Maybe this is just a simple problem of having the right permissions on the database file. All that know some linux knows that the improper permission on a file can make a huge difference. I am far from being an expert in linux nor android so if someone can help me fix it will be awesome.
Notice too that I have tried using fix_permissions command using the new file from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549463) before and after the messages get screw with no luck.
Hi ellopr,
I have encountered the same "loading screen" problem when restoring sms from the old builds to the current new hero builds. This is what I did to solve it:
the logcat reveals this missing table field "index_on_sim", thus using a sqlite editor, I compared the old mmssms.db and the new mmssms.db files. The missing field in under the sms table so all one need is to ADD the new field "index_on_sim" with type INTEGER. Upon careful observation, this field is used with value "-1" for incoming sms, not for outgoing ones.
Thus, I used the following sql commands:
1. to check for the correct index_on_sim rows with non-empty service_center info
=> SELECT sms.index_on_sim FROM sms WHERE service_center IS NOT NULL
2. to modify the above index_on_sim rows with '-1'
=> UPDATE sms SET index_on_sim = '-1' WHERE service_center IS NOT NULL
okay once done, verify that the rows are updated correctly and save the db.
push the edited mmssms.db to the Backup for Root Users folder or directly into /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases.
That's it! Your old sms will appear in the new hero build.
Attached is the sqlite program. ( To be used in linux/ubuntu )
I have been exchanging tons of SMS messages with a bunch of my friends. HTC Diamond does a good job of displaying the messages chronologically that i would have exchanged with a specific person if i tap on his/her name. However, it restricts the number of messages shown and i need to keep tapping on Older... again and again to see the older messages.
Is there a way that i can copy/download/save the entire SMS conversation i've had with a specific person? I don't want to copy/paste text manually into a file as it would take ages. Any tool/utility/application that exists to facilitate this ...preferably freeware !
Thanks
MyPhone can sync all of your text messages
Im wanting to get a 2nd phone and thought Ide get a WP8 HTC 8X to play about with and use when i fancy a change from my S3lte.
Ive read that you can now back up your sms and logs on WP8 but only to the cloud, so Is it possible to back them up from my S3 to the cloud then transfer my SMS and logs to the 8X, so i can keep both phones uptodate as I have my own business and my daily info and client messages are important.
Thanks

I just went through and created some new contact records for some of my relative's kids who were formerly just listed as another cell phone under their parent's contact record in GMail contacts. I actually did this because in my AT&T SMS messages the custom labels I had given those phone numbers simply showed up as "Custom" in the texting interface, not the name I have listed for that number (BUG #1).
Probably created about 10 new contacts in the process. Several times I would make a few edits to a contact record and on the way out would get some kind of brief vague popup error message like "Contact info not saved" or something like that and the edits would be lost. If I went back in and made the edits one at a time and saved that worked almost every time, but sometimes that even failed. (BUG #2)
I wanted to post to make them aware so they can patch these down the road.
You need to have a Samsung account that syncs to the Google account contacts.
There is some kind of issue right now - I had no problem for the past two years but their Contacts are not syncing as perfectly as before and it's driving me insane. I just made a topic on it in the Galaxy S10 forum if you want to follow that and see if anyone has an idea.
