Weird storage issue - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
I'm having some issues with my phones internal memory! Today I booted up my phone after school and some apps were missing: supersu, google play store, and some more. Also some apps don't work: google chrome: no sdcard, es file explorer: can't open apk files and more inside zip, it gives random errors
What's going on here?
Thanks,
Noahvt

"Not Enough Free Space"in system/app dir?

I'm trying to cut and paste the Amazon Appstore APK to my system/app directory, by way of Super Manager on my Auto Nooted 3.0 Nook Color. When I cut the Amazon APK from my SD card (downloaded by way of Dropbox) and try to paste it into my system/app folder, I get a "Not Enough Free Space" popup, and the apk is automatically copied into the system directory only.
I did select R/W when prompted by Super Manager.
There's plenty of space left on the device. What am I doing wrong that is causing me to get this free space error?
Thanks for your help.
Space on the device, and space on the partition are two very different things. I use Root Explorer, and that tells you exactly how much space is available in the partition...

Still should be plenty of space. There's nothing but the rooted OS and about 10 apps. Regardless I'll check using another utility.
I'll try a reboot as well.
Thanks for the quick reply.
You need root and need to set the folder to r/w to write to that directory.
You should really be putting that file in the data/app folder instead.

I don't know if this will help you or not but I'm rooted v1.1.0_r2 and here's what I did:
(I already had apps Installer on my NC - from the Android Market - I thin it is free)
1 - move the apk form desktop to nook via dropbox
2 - moved the apk to the root of the SD card
3- run Apps Installer
That's it! Amazon AppStore works well.

[Q] How do you install android market app ?

I have the cricket zio, with a z4 root, either rooted or unrooted; the problem is: a while ago, i somehow managed to get the android market app uninstalled and moved to the sd card- yeh, i know, a system app,- and then along the line somewhere i formatted the sd card and factory reset the phone...the market app was gone. Now, even though i downloaded a 3.3.11 ver of android market apk, it forces close before it even gets going, after installation..
questions are: what version of android market apk is cricket zio running? what specific directory is the app located? what file folders should i have as factory default? i have froyo.

yeh...thanks...now i have to buy a file browser that allows write access to the system folder.. I finally found and downloaded a compatible market apk. for my cricket zio, version 2.2.6, and then found out the free file browser i was using, Droid Explorer, didn't allow write privileges in folders that are read only, like the system folder. Otherwise its all good..was ready to forget this phone, even though i have full access to the amazon appstore.
Did you get it to work? Let me know if you need help. Gtalk with me [email protected]

Google Play Music won't install

I can't get google play music to install. At first I was getting an error that the previous package was not signed. Please uninstall previous version. But I could never find it in my apps to uninstall. I manually deleted music.apk from system/app folder. Now I get an error that says the application is already installed but I can't find it anywhere. How can I manually remove this app without have to wipe my Xoom?

You uninstalled the basic music app. Not qoogle play music.
If you don't use the basic android music app, I'd just leave it out. With a file explorer like Root Explorer, go to data/app and find the Google music app. That is the one you need to remove. Delete the apk file and then go to Google play and install Google music. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the response. I went there, but I don't have a apk for music or google play music
Any other thoughts?

So I have google play music on my phone also, and I cannot find an apk for that either in data/app. Could there be another location for the file?
Do you have a tibu for your tablet?
I cannot think of any other location
Are you running ICS?
If so you might have Google music disabled.
You can find it in all apps in settings on the bottom of the list.
If that's not the case, verify that it is deleted from system/app and data/app. The file name is com.google.android.music-1.apk

I know this thread is over 3 months old, but I ran into this same issue on my Galaxy Nexus after updating the custom rom I am running. To fix it I downloaded the Google Play Music app from here, renamed it to com.google.android.music-1.apk, then used my file manager app (File Expert) to copy it from my Download folder to the /data/app directory. After changing the permissions on the APK to match the others in the same directory, I rebooted my phone to a working Play Music application. Hopefully this helps someone who also experiences this problem.

Of course not. Android apps are self contained. And why do you need to move stuffs to /system? The cappy have a 1gb data partition, and most data are stored on the SD card, not on the NAND flash like with iPhones(this is not entirely accurate, but close enough)

I think you can uninstall it from settings/apps/all and select file commander. Then uninstall it
If it's not possible, then you should root your phone
And Z1 almost reads all formats, include flv
The default player can play it. And also almost all other players can play it
I suggest that you keep File Commander. Since KitKat 4.4. was introduced, there is a limitation in which only system apps (and not 3rd party apps) can write to SD card. File Commander is considered a system app. Xplore is considered a 3rd party app. That's why you can't do much with Xplore (or any other 3rd party file managers you download from Play Store).
As a system app it can only be deleted if he is rooted, and if you are rooted it is a 1 minute join to get around the write to sd card issue in kit kat.

Not all 3rd party apps work even after root. AirDroid doesn't work for me after KitKat, even after applying the SD card fix. It worked before KitKat.
Airdroid works for me. The sd card fix works for all apps, if it does not work for you then you should look in to it again
