[Q] 3D Printer Files for Moto X Cases? - Moto X Q&A

So I have access to a 3D printer, and I'd love to try printing out a Moto X case. Anyone know where I can find some template files floating around that can be fed to the printer to print out a case with the right proportions? I'm not looking for one of those sites that lets you design a case and they print it for you - I have the printer but just need the files to actually make it print. What's a good resource for this?

Bump.

Do you need CAD model ? Something in .STP format ?

I have no experience with 3D printers, so I guess whatever the standard file they print is.

how do you make an ABS plastic case flexible enough to attach to a phone securely?

LOL .I don't really mind making a CAD model for the phone, but I need to know what file format is required :silly: I can help but, I need to know what type of 3D printer you have and the exact file type required . Look up the specs and post here . :fingers-crossed:

You could make a back cover right ? One that the phone can slide into perhaps ?

I'm curious how you would make a model. Do you have one of those machines that helps translate an object into a model?

I have access to a 3d scanner. I could do a scan of the X and post it.

Nope, just conventional measurements... I have a back cover so I'd simply be measuring dimensions with a vernier and making a model of it ..

Stylus

Is there somewhere an oldfashioned, sharp-tiped and accurate stylus available? I use D3 to do quite a lot of sketching (Autodesk Sketchbook) and so forth I am disappointed with styli I bought so forth... that fluffy blob cannot be mistaken for the TIP

Good tip!
Maybe I want just S-Pen that comes with it...do you think it would work with Droid3 display?
If the stylus is capacitive, it should work.

I've been drooling over the Note for a couple weeks now. Almost 100% sure that the device contains a digitizer in the screen which means it's not your run of the mill capacitive stylus.

Are you sure? Why do you think so?
I believe the note works on the same principals of the htc flyer which uses a digitizer and then has apps written to specifically use it.

Yeah, I was in that mindset too for a couple of weeks. Kept checking prices, looking at selling my Droid 3, how much that would cover the ETF and was looking at Straight Talk ($45/month). But now, I think I'm going to hold off at least until February/March. By then hopefully the Galaxy Nexus will be cheaper off-contract and I'll get one of them.
So anyone have a capacitative stylus recommendation?

All of the ones that I've seen have the rounded bubble tip which makes for extremely awkward writing.
on the internet, there are plenty of how-to´s on this subject - try them out, maybe you find somethig less awkward...

How do you know that your Nexus 7 is real thing??? PLEASE HELP, I HAVE ONLY 2 HOURS

Just as the title says, PLEASE HELP I ONLY HAVE 2 HOURS
My assumptions :
- Is the welcome screen can only show once you got it & we cannot see it again?
- When we open the case, it will leave traces ?
What do you know? How can I know that the Nexus 7 I want to buy is real? ( I want to buy it from another person, he said that he buy it from Lazada & want to sell it because he thought that it was 3g )
1 Thing to do is to check under settings, About and check all the software.
Chances are if its a fake device, it won't have standard software installed.
Check VERY Carefully, as fake software often mimicks the naming etc, but is slightly different.
Also, check all the outer body etc, to see if you can see any different things from what your used it, such as no logo etc?
Pop the back off like you said, check the internals to see if they match the Nexus 7 original.
Popping the back is fairly easy, and if done properly you wont be able to tell its been done.

Thx a lot man !
Can you show me more example on the mimics software here? Cause this is 4.1 Jellybean & I never had the experience with 4.1
Can you give me the list of things that I must check so that I can check it with the review on YouTube?
Go here - http://images.broadbandgenie.co.uk/fckImages/blogs/n7-root/Build Number.png
The easiest one to check would be the kernel/build number etc.

Seems to be a real one. By judging the kernel version, date and the FCC things. Also you can try to unlock its bootloader.
Edit what's lazada

I don't think it'll have the serial number, being second hand.

Why would that have anything to do with not having a serial number? It comes on a tag on the device. If it is removed I would be suspicious that it is stolen.
That little sticker that's in the bottom? That was the first thing I took off when I opened it. I mean why would you put a SN on a sticker? That's no indicator if it were stolen.
Edit: I stick edit to the box, but yeah. If anyone else is like me and does not like superfluous stuck things in their devices, and they would have removed it too.

I had to re-read that a couple of times. So you're telling me, you haven't taken the sticker off your nexus 7, and that if someone tried to sell you one with the sticker on you'd think it was stolen?

Second hand for a device like this is kinda shady to begin with. It being bogus is a risk you take regardless of anything considering its been used. serial numbers can be faked, especially stickers which can be taken off one and placed onto another. I left my sticker on just because....eventually it peeled off on its own so that shoots that idea down. You can very easily package a loaf of bread into a nexus box and until ya open it youll never know. best bet would be to make sure whatever service your using has an airtight return & buyer protection policy.
Honestly I don't think there are a lot of faked N7's(if any). It's not like you would buy beats headphones (cause there's a sh*t load of faked beats headphones).Faking tablets and phones is much "harder" and you would definitely figure out quickly if its faked or not mostly because they run outdated software.
Sorry for my bad english

Someone gets it. Yes, my sticker is still on my N7, primarily because there's no real reason to remove it and because it is in a case where the sticker is protected and not visible. I save the boxes that any of my gadgets come in until they are no longer under warranty. Sometimes even longer as resale is better on a device that is in the factory container. For a device this new I would be very wary of buying one used that the owner had disposed of the box and serial number sticker without much thought. At the least, it shows carelessness, at the worst, they could be trying to hide something.
OP seems suspicious to me.
cant quite tack it down, but something seems odd...
Google Gravity
A real N7 will bounce if you toss it on the ground real hard. Newer N7's have Google Gravity installed. Basically it has internal gyros and sensors that detect motion and reverse gravity in the event of a fall to prevent damage.
hahaha, I liked the last response better.

Have any of you tried to put on the non-verizon cases on the verizon lg g2?

Have any of you tried to put on the non-verizon version (atnt or tmobile or international version) cases on the verizon lg g2?
Verizon version of the cases choices are really limited so I wanted to see if the non-verizon version works too on my verizon lg g2.
If you have...do you have pictures that i can look at? And does it fit well as all the cut outs works fine too?
there is so many threads on this I was just looking at one yesterday. Search... Anyways to answer your question yes they will fit no they don't look good because the button cut out is too big.

Then its not suit with the case..

YAND - Yet Another Nexus Dock

Hey - I wanted to show off my latest 3D printed dock, this time for the nexus 10.
I borrowed the design ideas from what I saw posed on here and tried to build off of it.
I think the one unique thing about it is that it is made of glazed ceramic instead of that usual plastic. It is very study and has some nice heft, while keeping 3D printing costs down.
I designed it to be able to keep the nexus docked while in my folio case, since I will snatch it off the stand before heading out the door. However, this will dock with or without the case. (FYI this is my case: http://www.roocase.com/Slim-Fit-Veg...--Black-rooCASE/cat-p/c1000036/p10518806.html)
It is designed for the standard POGO magnetic cable.
I just wanted to get thoughts on this if anyone would be interested in one or what questions you might have about it.
I finally got together my shapeways site where you can order the dock if you're interested.
Let me know what you think, or feel free to post in the thread, thanks!
http://shpws.me/rY5i
Thanks again to everyone in this forum for the great ideas!
I guess no one, huh?
I am a little late to the dock party...

Agree. Unfortunate really...and surprising. I've had 3 of these in my family and none had any issues whatsoever. They are all in use and still running pretty darn good! I've compared to newer tablets but this really is still a great tablet. Not sure why this forum is so dead.

That's probably the reason, no issues = no reason to search for a forum to find fixes.
Very nice dock.

Amen to this! There are two reasons for a dead forum on XDA: long abandoned device, or no issues to complain about/develop solutions to!

Hey! Sorry for the delay, I've been pretty busy with work.
I finally got around to setting up the storefront through Shapeways, and have a link to the stand you can buy directly from there:
http://shpws.me/rY5i
I only selected options for the ceramic material, since plastics would have sent the price over $100.
Let me know what you guys think and if anyone really wants to be a baller and get it made in plastic, I'll add in those options, so just let me know.
I have a just one other tip: I sanded the plastic housing of the POGO cable down just a bit with some sand paper and put a piece of electrical tape on it so when I wedge it in, it stays put on docking and undocking.
Let me know if you guys have any other questions.
thanks!

The dump my garbage goes to? Don't think I took it out of the box. Lol
But no....not sure. Demand is probably terribly low. Wouldn't surprise me if they aren't for sale anywhere .
Did you Google it? If not on Google....probably don't exist. IPhone probably sells them. They likely tell customers that they need the official one, or their phone will break and warranty will be void.
