Im looking for a point and shoot camera for travelling to Australia. I do want it to be able to take videos but its not that important. I have had my eye on the P300 since Christmas and its dropped £20 now.
The TX20 just popped up and looks good too, but some reviews are a little harsh.
What would you say is best for travelling? Or Just a better camera as a whole?
Thanks Nathan
I have a Lumix ZR3, great camera.

Thanks Travis, i will look at that Lumix aswell..
after somee googling i found this http://snapsort.com/compare/Nikon-P300-vs-Panasonic-TZ20
its a full review-comparison. it will help you decide
personally i'd take the p300. an aperture of f/1.8 is really hard to find in a compact... and very useful in low light conditions.. plus the manual settings
Nice one Dexter. Some great info in that review. I think i will choose the Nikon after all. Off too find the best price now Cheers..

the front camera is only 2 megapixels and in low light conditions the picture is grainy, thats normal, my htc one was exactly the same.

I've noticed that when you're viewing it to take it, it's really really grainy. But if you take the picture the actual photo looks much better. Seems like a software glitch. I've seen it happen in dark conditions on the main camera once.
Have you noticed that the photo itself turns out better than the view finder?

Hey new family!
Just brought my new z1 home, updated firmware and still Im totally unhappy with its camera. pictures are super blurry in auto and manual mode. Tested indoor with much daylight in the room... schould be more than plenty. My old galaxy s3 made way better pictures. Any suggestions? is it possible that i have a faulty model??

what mode are you shooting in?
this seems to make most difference.
there are threads about the camera already so in a nutshell - 8mp is better than 20mp for sharpness/clarity
scene - landscape or night if light is low
14.1.G.2.257 perfect image quality!
I think you should share some of your pics + the modes selected to us so that our recommendation would be more accurate
I like Manual + 20mp + ISO 100 or 50 + EV 1 or 2 notches up depending on the light... I also prefer using the dedicated shutter button so that your hand is more stable... for moving objects (or very shaky hands) higher the ISO the less the blurriness but more noise...
8mp manual mode is the best and there's definitely some trouble with the autofokus.

auto focus problem is found in all sony phones.. from xperia S to Z1...i m a long sony user...actually sony software is a mess
I have not a problem with my camera. auto focus and flash does not work when its automatic mode in the night. Just flash and picture is dark
Right?

then either my camera is broken or i am doing something wrong i tried both manual and auto in a well lit room
zooming in on anything makes a noisy mess
This was just a quick snap using superior auto, which isn't the greatest mode but that is absolutely fine to me.
I'd get it looked at

what are the lighting conditions in this shot? how far away was the can from the camera?
I can see the noise in the background. Also, the MON and ER are a but blurry. Other that that, the picture is ok - nothing spectacular.
I can't wait to try the camera out when I get the phone.
Mid morning with a window behind me, can was about 8-12 inches away.
Focusing on the can would make the background a little blurred

Looks fine for those conditions albeit a bit grainy. Nothing to cry over really. I just got mine today but unfortunately the c6906 doesn't have the latest firmware yet. I'll do some test shots after I get off work to see what the the fuss is about.
Hi All,
I'm looking at getting the new Moto X for my partner as her birthday present. Would everyone recommend it?
We have seen online a small review that stated the battery was a little smaller than the battery in something like a s5, what is the battery life in "real use"? Is it enough to last her the day with medium use?
I've also seen that the camera struggles in low light, to me its not a problem but she has asked me to ask you guys if anyone knows of any updates to try and correct that?
Thanks for your help!
Darren
Yes definitely. Make use of moto maker to design to her liking! It'll last a day's normal usage easily for me. I get 3-5 hours screen on time everyday depending on whether I'm using data or WiFi.
Camera is good in day light, especially in normal shots, struggles a little in macro shots. Low light performance isn't great, but lollipop is touted to bring quite some camera improvements. Overall, go for it
Install Snap Camera, its got lots and lots of features yet a minimal onscreen interface. Keep the ISO at 100 or 200 and low light photos should also come out with lesser noise.

Battery life is better than the modest size would suggest - I'm currently able to get around 4.5 to 5.5 hours of screen on time. It will definitely last a full day with medium use.
Low light performance is average - I personally find you can take better shots if you enable the "control of focus and exposure" setting and choose the focal point yourself. Low light shots ultimately will have a tendency to come out noisy and a bit blurry. In the greater scheme of things it's not that bad as far as smartphone cameras go (they all suck in low light to some degree) so I wouldn't class it as a deal breaker.

The battery does surprisingly well, but if you want a decent camera go LG or Samsung.

As many of you requested, here you go.
Thanks alot! can you post night mode (not auto but longer exposure ones) of dark environment not just low light?
Also can you take a medium light shots with and without scene optimizer turned on?
Did you used touch to focus - then shot? and is it exynos or snapdragon?

On DSLR, I must shoot with shutter speed no less than 1/100. Some photos were 5s explosure on telephoto lens, so expect some bluriness.

I'm sorry dude, i hope you don't get this wrong, i just want to make sure its the camera and not your hands, i just checked most of this photos, and most of them are blurry, so either this environment is much darker then it looks or maybe you didn't get the camera update that some units just now are receiving?

The environment is super dark, I would say photo look like 3-4 stop brighter than the actual place. Here is the setting I must use on DSLR to get the shot if you care about it. SS 1/100 f/1.8 ISO 6400. I already download and update 1 patch upon receiving the unit which has 1.0GB in size.
So if it so dark, how would you compare the photos with other phones? are they decent, good, great? next time just a suggestion, take few non night mode/regular shots if prompted for auto night mode turn it off if possible, that shot should be great for reference. Thanks for taking the time to answer

Here is night shot vs pro mode pair.
Compared to S7, I would say it is much better, but S7 is 2017 era phone, so I don't think it's a good competitor.
Even pro mode looks 1 stop brighter than actual place.
Thanks dude! really appreciate it.
Please report back when you can on the scene optimizer.

The scene optimizer sends you to night mode upon turning on, so it's the same as using the night mode anyway.

Yes but i prefer to see medium to low light shot without night mode and no scene optimizer
My Ultra 21is coming on Wedn., 27th, but check out this night shots video from down under - this phone camera rocks!
