I am using a i9305 (Hong Kong model, bought from Kogan Australia). I am based in Malaysia. Before all this I just popped my sim card in and utilised the stock ROMs. No issues with 4G or network whatsoever, but the phone got really slow after 4.3 to I decided to install CM11 using Heimdall.
Long story short, I absolutely screwed it up, and the phone showed the "software fail" screen. After scouring XDA and undertaking a number of fixes which didn't work (I'm scared this is what screwed my phone), I finally worked out to flash the Hong Kong stock 4.3 ROM using Odin, which brought my phone back to me. However, now I can only pick up Edge and barely get network reception. It is definitely not a sim issue as my sim in my wife's identical i9305 picks up 4G and network within a second of switching on.
I've searched every thread but cannot find an answer which works.I've flashed a whole bunch of modems but to no avail. I hope I haven't screwed my phone. Threads I've utilised include:

Have you tried wiping your cache in stock recovery (or whatever recovery you have, I can't really tell from your post)? I think you had problems with CM11 since you likely dirty flashed (no wipe of cache, data and system) and used Heimdall instead of flashing it through a custom recovery.
Possible answer

When you wipe the whole system to change to another rom, there is always a good chance that you can lose the modem during the process. Rom's may come with their on custom modem , but may not be fully compatible. try to download and flash with odin the modem of the stock rom once again. Your problem is related with the modem
Sorry for not responding, I was in Korea for work and left the bad phone back at home for the past 3 weeks.
I tried the clearing cache, but no good.
I will try flash the stock modem now (see below I notice the difference).
I noticed while syncing my google account that the IMEI on my phone had changed. Would this have anything to do with the issues I am facing? The below is my "before and after".
Model: GT-I9305

Stock modem didn't work.
Factory reset, odin flashed the stock software again (with the stock modem). Same issue.
Followed instructions on this page for missing IMEI: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...warning-guide-backup-restore-imei-nv-t1946915
Tried *#06# but still no IMEI.
Any solutions?
Tried everything I read in lyquidperfection's awesome mega-thread, but nothing works. still got a /01 when I type *#06# and in the 'about' section it now shows IMEI: Unknown.
Everything else works fine, just the internet is stuck on Edge.
so I tried a few more things today but to no avail.
The IMEI shows up as "Unknown" in the phone settings and when I do *#06* I get a /01 message.
However, when I check my IMEI against my Google account, I get the above number.
Any suggestions as how to fix?
as of today, new modem is being release. I9305XXUFNI3
info here
for modem u can read this
download links from page, or this link
im quite new, but i hope this helps.
Thanks. Didn't work, still Edge.
Going to try flash again.
You could try running a different country's stock ROM, or maybe seeing whether you get 4G while using a custom ROM (Liquidsmooth maybe).

1. Restore a working QCN backup (like this one) http://www.mediafire.com/download/4j...4_19-53-39.rar through the download tool of the QPST suite
2. Change the IMEI to match yours. <<<<. DON'T SKIP THIS STEP. There are many way to do this, i used RF NV manager. I can't be more specific since this topic is off-limits on XDA.
3. Perform a factory reset.
I can't test LTE connection, because where I live there is no coverage, but I'll try as soon as I can.

For absolute n00bs like me:
Step #1, use QPST Suite from this thread to install the QCN backup as per above: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...warning-guide-backup-restore-imei-nv-t1946915
Step #2, uninstall QPST, follow this thread (post #4): http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32397-tutorial-imei-backup-nv-with-qpst-us-variants/
>> I didn't have the US version LTE phone, but it works on my LTE International
Step #3, go into recovery and wipe cache and factory reset.
>> *#06# should show your imei, and your 4G should be back. mine came back instantly two months of pain over!!!!!!!!

I've spent the last few days trying to figure this out without any luck. I have GT-S5830D (Canadian Koodo version) on stock firmware TLKI4, unlocked with SpeakOut sim (which operates on Rogers network).
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband Version: S5830DTLKI4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-perf-CL568978 [email protected] #1
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.DTLKI4
PDA: S5830DTLKI4
PHONE: S5830DTLKI4
CSC: S5830DTLSKI4
In this stock firmware, I have no issues at all. Everything works fine, can place calls, WIFI, GPS, data all works. If I flash a new rom to the phone, I can see the networks still show up with signal strength showing okay, but the phone will not place calls. Just says Emergency Calls Only.
I've been reading about everything I can about this phone, and I just can't figure out what the problem is. I have flashed the modem with DDKQ7 and I was able to again place calls, however with this modem firmware, the connection was very unstable and would drop frequently.
Is there an issue with directly updating the stock rom to CM7 or CM9 that would cause problems with this baseband? I was under the impression that baseband wasn't really important. Interestingly enough, I have another phone that is the same make and model and is not experiencing this problem. I feel there must be something I am missing, if anyone can shed some light on this, I would appreciate it.
Thank you.
I have a feeling that I may be the only person that has experienced this issue. Continuing to search the internet for other answers, I've discovered that the baseband is the cause of this issue, but I still don't quite understands how it relates. My other phone is on the stock firmware (TLKI4) and is running CM7 without issue, on the same network even.
Do the APN settings have effect on voice calls too? Or is it strictly for data?
Also, I read a post on here that sounded like there was a limit to how many times you can perform a complete flash with Odin? Is that true? I'd love to keep experimenting, but each time to roll back the stock firmware, I need to use Odin and I'm hesitant due to the thought that will eventually brick the phone.
Thanks again.
tried to flash cm7 again??
Yes. I have installed cm-7.2.0-cooper.zip as well as some of the nightly's and still only get emergency calls only. I have another phone, exactly the same setup, and it works without issue. I even tryed GalaxyICS-latest and the same problem.
Now I did install a different modem firmware, and performed the upgrade and I don't have the issue anymore, however I have other issues, dropped service, 3g doesn't work properly, wifi and mobile data won't switch, gps is has extremely long lock time if it locks at all.
Does anyone here have the D version of this phone from Koodo? Which modem firmwares are you using? Anyone specifically using the phone on SpeakOut? Any hints would be helpful because I'm completely at a loss, will just have to keep it stock until I can figure it out.
I had the same problem as you, don't worry though because there is a solution. The Koodo Samsung Galaxy Ace only receives a signal when using the original Koodo baseband. (Basebands have to do with wireless signal, sometimes referred to as modems.) The good thing for you is that you can use any ROM or firmware you like, as long as after installing it you flash the original Koodo baseband (S5830DTLKI4) using Odin. I found a download link for the baseband in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1381595
After downloading, (I'm assuming you know how to use Odin, if not you can find a guide easily) open Odin, and in the "Phone" section browse to the file and select it. (You will have to extract the ZIP) Then press start and wait until it is finished downloading and that should do the trick. If you need any more help post back because I know what a pain it is to try and get this particular phone rooted and install a custom ROM.
ALSO MAKE SURE TO BACKUP IN CLOCKWORK MANAGER BEFORE FLASHING THIS
cause you never know what can happen.
If I flash CM7, it still shows my baseband being the same. It doesn't appear to have been changed. So what I need to do is flash CM7 and then just reflash the baseband with Odin and it should work? Even though the baseband shows the same? I'll give it a shot and let you know how it works out, but does anyone know why this would be required, to have to reflash the baseband even though it was never changed?
Is your current baseband S5830DTLKI4? Because in my experience that's the only way I could get service unless I was on the Koodo stock ROM.
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA
Yes, that is the firmware that I'm on. That firmware was installed with the stock rom that the phone came with and I have not changed it. Although I have changed it before, it fixed the issue with getting 'emergency calls only' in CM7 but the service was so flaky it wasn't worth keeping as a solution. If I leave the firmware from stock DTLKI4 and flash CM7 over it, I end up getting stuck with emergency calls only problem.
Is the current official CM7 not compatible with DTLKI4 firmware? Could that be the problem I'm having? I'm still really confused why this isn't working, but I will try to install CM7 again, and then use Odin to flash the DTLKI4 on top to see if the install is causing any issue with it. It doesn't really make sense.
Alright, interestingly enough, I just flashed it again and all is working as expected. I've flashed this phone about 10 times, using the same files and it would not work.
This time however, what I did differently is not root the phone. I've been using the universal_gb_root_v20.zip to root the phone previously, but I found that rooting before installing CM is waste of time as root is enabled in the CM7 rom already.
Also, when I flashed the stock rom with Odin, it usually used selected the KDO CSC automatically, last time I flashed it came up with TLS CSC and had the Telus branding. I don't know if that made any difference. All I know is that it worked and I am able to make calls and use data without any problems.
Thank you Dynamic_Apple, although your recommendation was not required, it did give me the motivation to try again and that was enough to get it working. I've never had so much difficulty modding a phone in my life, especially a model that I have messed with before.
Glad I was able to help, I had just as much trouble getting mine modded too, it makes me jealous of all the generic Galaxy Ace owners, but it's good to know that you can actually get past Koodo's sneaky limitations.
I bought the a samsung GT-I9000 off ebay, it was locked to vodafone and running standard OS.
Despite soft bricking it I did a factory restore, rooted and flashed it with cyanogenmod 10.1.
Everything is working, except I cannot to any mobile network. When I try to connect it says "cannot connect at this time, try again later" or it encountered "an error". It takes ages doing this as well.
The APN settings are all there and correct as I can compare them to my rooted HTC which works fine on the same ROM.
The IMEI number is given by *#06# and this is also given in the phone information. The same IMEI is on the back of the phone under the battery as well.
If I leave the phone on, it gives Orange (EE ) as the network but says emergency only i.e no service.
I rang Orange and they said there is no problem , which I suspected, as my HTC work fine. Orange also said there is no problem with the phone relating to IMEI - its not stolen.
Can anyone help please? Thanks in advance

Hi again
Two questions: is the phone unlocked now? Did you have the connection with this same SIM card by using previously flashed ROM?
If both answers "yes", your presently installed baseband is probably not compatible with the region where you live. Google after the regional codes (letters in your baseband version) and find the right one for your region. Here are all flashable baseband versions for the CyanogenMod:

I won't have internet next few days, but you may make it now alone.... good luck, mate

I upgraded to stable 10.1.3 last night, simply thinking what do I have to lose? and it worked for a bit then stopped.
Whats stranger is it started working when I got to work - it doesnt recognise EE which is the company who bought Orange/T-Mobile but it connects to Orange or T-Mobile and works as Orange......
It connected to providers last night but never for more than a few seconds and then stopped.
I have called and texted from it and all now seems fine!

The phone lost signal when I got home - ultimately solved it by flashing it with modem XXJVP and updated APN to those given for EE, not Orange.
All been stable now for 3 days
I have a factory unlocked P1000 that recently started having some issues. When I first got it two years ago, I had flashed it with the following:
PDA1000DXJK2
PHONE1000DXJJ2
CSC1000OLBJJ2
During all that time, everything was working fine everywhere I had been (Asia and North America), with at least three different SIM cards and carriers.
About three weeks back, I suddenly lost voice/data. At first, I thought it was a SIM/carrier issue, but some swapping with a friend revealed that it was my tab that was the problem. Searching here and elsewhere, all I could come up with was that my IMEI was showing as the generic 0049990106400 and not the one listed on the back of my tab. I had been aware of them not matching, but it had never caused problems in the past. I was able to confirm, however, that the radio/modem was still working. I could place emergency calls, I could see that the networks were there, I just could not connect to any of them.
In my attempts to restore the original IMEI, following a guide here, I managed to lose my broadband entirely. I have been researching and trying to get it back ever since, so far to no avail. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a copy of the P1000DXJK2/DXJJ2 firmware I used the first time. However, I have tried multiple stock ROMS, different tutorials, and most recently, flashing with Overcome 4.1. The result is always the same: everything works except for the phone. Phone, broadband, and IMEI list as unknown.
Currently:
PDA: P1000XXJQ1
PHONE: Unknown
CSC: P1000OXAJQ1
Model number: GT-P1000
Firmware version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: Unknown
Kernal version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
So, here I am desperately appealing for any help anyone might be able to provide. My tab has been my only phone for years and often my only internet access, so I am feeling pretty lost without it. I am fairly tech savvy and I follow instructions very well, but I have never really messed around much with Android, so I am hoping the experts here are going to be able to come up with something.
So, you said you most recently use overcome 4.1.
When you first use Odin to flash GB-stock-safe-v5, before you put overcome kernel, what is the IMEI?
No point to proceed to Overcome ROM if GB-stock-safe-v5 didn't bring back the IMEI.
Yes, that is what I assumed, but I gave it a try anyway. If nothing else, it gave me better recovery mode tools.
As I said above, nothing has worked so far. My IMEI was unknown before flashing with GB Stock, as it is now. However, at this point, I would be happy just to get a working modem again, even if the IMEI remains messed up... One thing at a time.
the fact that the IMEI suddenly is gone, and on further tweaking the radio/baseband is gone, I think your internal storage is failing.
first it hits the EFS area, then the baseband area.
That is my suspicion.
You could probably proceed to flash latest CM/AOKP or whatever, which repartition your internal storage.
You should get your baseband, because the /radio/modem.bin in those MTD partitioned ROM sits on a different part of the storage.
But since you never have a backup of your EFS, those ROM will not give you your IMEI either.
Only flashing a stock ROM will give you the right EFS (assuming the area it writes into is writable)
I also wonder if there a person expert enough to rewrite the pit file, so that your EFS and baseband is shifted from its original position, and use that with the GB stock safe v5
This is an interesting idea. To clarify, though, my IMEI did not suddenly go, to my knowledge. For at least the last year and a half, the IMEI listed did not match the one printed on the back. Everything worked fine, so I never gave it much thought. What I do not know is if it changed again, or if it has been the generic one I listed above all along.
Could it be that something is simply wrong with the EFS, preventing the modem.bin from flashing correctly? One of the IMEI restoration tutorials I attempted early on involved messing with the EFS. I believe this was the same night the modem stopped working, though I did not notice a direct cause-effect relationship. There were other (failed) attempts between that and broadband coming up "unknown." I will admit I was a little hasty in those first few days. I was traveling, crunched for time, and panicked that I would have no phone.
Hi guys,
I know there are many similiar threads to this one and I'm sure I've read most of them. Either my issue is different, or, if the answer was in one of them, I was too stupid to realize it.
With my S4 Active GT-I9295 I had to go back to stock ROM for the Samsung S-Health and Gear related apps.
I came from spegelius' (absolutely awesome) Google Edition for SGS4A (int'l) v0.9.9.-od2 and flashed the Samsung Stock 4.4.2 with Odin (*). The procedure was: Flash -> Factory Reset -> Flash again to be absolutely sure all files are updated. Currently, I rooted the phone.
My problem persists:
After a reboot I (usually; not always) am able to make normal phone calls.
After some time (sometimes minutes, sometimes hours) I no longer have sound.
I do not hear ringing, the callee can't hear me, I can't hear the callee.
Same problem if I'm being called
Establishing a connection though works always.
Mobile Data is not affected.
WiFi works
Also observed after factory reset -> re-flash, only enter WiFi PW and Google Login Data -> try phone call
I know this problem often arises from a baseband/modem mismatch. So I investigated my CWM backup of the pre-installed 4.2.2 ROM.
That's what was pre-installed:
Bootloader: I9295XXUBMK3
CSC: I9295OXXBMK3
Modem: *I did not find the info in my backup*
This corresponds to the Romanian 4.2.2: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/22586/I9295XXUBMK3_I9295OXXBMK3_ROM.zip/
That's why I flashed the direct successor http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/37083/I9295XXUCNI1_I9295OXXCNI1_ROM.zip/
PDA: I9295XXUCNI1
CSC: I9295OXXCNI1
MODEM: I9295XXUCNI1
I tried everything I could find online, nothing helped. I am really running out of ideas. Is it possible to go back to 4.2.2 to see if the problem persists?
I do have logcat logs of the radio module before and after the problem occured. But its thousands of lines. If it helps I can upload it!
Thank you guys for your help
(*): I did some intermediate flashing of several other firmware versions (especially different baseband / CSC versions of the same 4.4.2). But I assume this does not affect the result. I used Odin v3.07 & v3.09
Edit: PS: I still think that I might have the wrong CSC Version. I know the 4.2.2 PDA/CSC matches, but I am not from Romania. I'm actually from Germany. And what makes me wonder is that I cannot select the German Keyboard Style without downloading it first. I can't remember doing something similar after unboxing the phone and setting it up for the first time.

Yes, I was aware of that thread. However, I never made it until here

Although I did the things basically as described in that posts I have a new question:
Which country is relevant for the search on sammobile? I mean, do they ask me "Where do you live" or "For which country was your device produced?".
Edit: Okay actually they ask me for the 'product code', so it's probably the latter question.
I realized that my 4.2.2 PDA and CSC also match the French version. That would match the language of my original packaging. I already flashed the French 4.4.2 once but heard only noise when calling someone. So I gave up on that one quickly. But I'll give it another shot now.
Is it possible that I had a factory installation of the firmware for country A, and when I first registered with my local carrier I received a modem update OTA for country B?
That would really surprise me. But it could explain my issues, since there is no 4.4.2 for o2 Germany, i.e. I probably wouldn't receive another modem update OTA.
(I never looked into the carrier specific firmwares because I figured they are for sim-locked devices.)
If the above is true, I understand that the only option would be to somehow downgrade my device back to 4.2.2.
I know I'm asking a lot of questions that have been asked and answered elsewhere. But by now I tried so much and nothing worked that I'm really confused and need your guidance.
I know I type too much, so a short summary.
Everything I tried so far didn't help, the stock ROM from sammobile.com doesn't help, currently I'm on 4.4.2 XEF (France)
I'm 80% sure I have the firmware for the correct country
From factory-side I definitely had an XX PDA and OXX CSC, so shouldn't all XX/OXX versions work, even if not the exact country?
What should I try next?
Is there a way to uniquely identify the country code from a backup of the /system or /data parition?

I am not sure if you have done this, but one thing I always recommend is a phone factory reset from settings (not CWM/TWRP) when you are on stock firmware as this is known to correct a lot of issues caused mainly due to faulty partition / corruption. However beware of the fact that this will wipe your internal SD card therefore back it up before you do that.
If you have flashed the correct firmware for your country & carrier (if it has a separate one) where you are using the phone, and done the above then I do no see any other issue than a faulty IC that requires replacement

Yes, I always did a factory reset. Most of the times I even flashed the firmware a second time after the factory reset. (This was recommended somewhere else.)

Now that really helps me! Thanks. BUT: There is a seperate firmware for my carrier. However, I did not purchase the phone from that carrier. That's why I never tested the carrier specific firmware. Moreover, there is only the old 4.2.2 available, so I can't test it, since I cannot downgrade.

You can flash only the modem & non-holos from the 4.2.2 firmware and check

Tried it and it didn't work; completely crashed my Phone Application. It rang on the other side, but no conversation was possible. Is this because of the bootloader / modem mismatch?
Does anyone have instructions to safely downgrade to 4.2.2 again? Should I open another thread for this discussion?

Identify the bootloader version and Knox state:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=57332718
Knox is not a counter - it's a like a fuse.
Hi O-T,
the bootloader is I9295XXUBMK3 and it does not yet have the warranty bit which I assume you mean by KNOX state.
Are there maybe any new ideas?

There's 3 stock 4.2.2 TW ROM I9295XXUBMK3 to choose for flash by Odin. All have different Germany CSC (Carrier Specific Code) - Generic, O2, T-Mobile. PDA=MODEM=I9295XXUBMK3 for all of them. Not sure if O2 or T-Mobile versions are locked, but they usually have operators bloat apps.
Remember to power OFF before entering download mode, flash ROM in Odin, factory reset.

Your choice.
O-T I'm so sorry. My post from yesterday was a lie; I can't read my own OP. :crying:
I9295XXUBMK3 was preinstalled
Now I'm on I9295XXUCNH2, which implies 4.4.2 and makes a downgrade to 4.2.2 impossible (afaik).
Please note that I already tried the generic German (4.4.2) firmware. I never had operater bloat apps and I bought a simlock-free version of the device. Thus I never tested the o2 / T-Mobile ones. (I did, however, once flash the o2 modem over the generic 4.4.2, which turned out to be a bad idea).
I would love to extract the modem info from my CWM backup. The bootloader / CSC strongly suggest I have a French phone, but the modem would ultimately clarify that.
What is your opinion on trying a different custom-ROM? I never built one so I have no idea from where designers obtain their NON-HLOS and modem files. I know many don't come with any of those and require an already working ROM before flashing so these drivers can be kept. On the other hand, Darkman's StockyROM has an additional modem pack.... which, in my case, didn't help.
I simply cannot believe that it's a hardware issue. Everything worked fine until the update to 4.4.2 and new radio drivers should be thoroughly tested before distribution.
Hey guys,
I searched on google but was not able to find a solution for my issue due to software updates..
For like a week i do have the notification for the software-update to be ready to install (October security patch) and finally yesterday i had time to let the installation do its thing.
All of sudden after the update i can enter my SIM pin and that's it. No network, no cellular NOTHING.
What i did:
- Factory reset
- Data wipe via recovery
- Flashed current DBT firmware manually via ODIN
- Flashed previous DBT firmware
I am out of ideas.. Seems like a hardware problem, right? The lower part inside of the phone - is that the part for network? Should i try to replace it?
I replaced my screen 2 months ago, therefore i am out of warranty i guess, right?
Thanks in advance for any advise or help.

To decide if you still have warranty or not, you need to visit the sales/service centre. To ascertain your issue, you need to give a little more background on your last activities. Did you change your CSC anytime? When the problem first occurred, were you totally stock? Is your device carrier locked? Lots of questions..
Look if able to see IMEI in device settings - about phone
If IMEI is there and still you are unable to connetc to network, you should ask your operator if your IMEI got banned.

Hey Doc, thanks for responding!
Well, both of my IMEIs are there. I use dualsim and both of my cards accept the PIN and also shows the IMEI but on both of them no signal. This first happened after replacing the screen. I forgot 1 or 2 screws and then i had no signal. After screwing correctly, i again was able to connect to the network.
And now all of sudden immediately after updating OTA both of my sims stopped working. But well, i have seen some youtube videos saying, that it can be the GSM cable on the side of the phone. I am not sure if i replaced my old cable with the one in the new screen or if i used the old one. I will check later when i am at home.
My only guess is: GSM cable is dead, motherboard died or flex cable is damaged..
// Edit:
I removed the GSM Antenna from my old display and replaced it with my new screen. For a second i had 4G and it died again.. i took out everything at least 5 times and finally i cleaned everything with Isopropyl-alcohol and let it dry and voila my phone has signal again. No clue if some miracle happened but i am happy again.
