[Q] Going back to Sense from GPE - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all.
Last week, after i soft bricked my phone (HTC ONE M7 EU with no carrier , bough directly from ) trying to update it to the latest version (i had mine unlocked and rooted to solve previous battery problems), i finally fixed it with the help of an user of this community
I have now an S-off HTC One GPE with 4.4.4 (via OTA update after flashing a RUU zip)
I kinda not like GPE and i think i should back to Sense .
Can anyone point me to the correct RUU thread and/or instructions or presequisites i shoult take account to do this process?
Thanks in advance

here are some links, if you're going to use a signed/encryped ruu, then you'll need to downgrade hboot first https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407580580

Thanks. Whats the difference between signed and unsigned?

considering you are s-off,
very little, but even with s-off, you will first need to downgrade hboot to same or lower version than the signed ruu.exe/ruu.zip
on the other hand, a decrypted ruu.zip doesn't have that restriction
a small chart is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52135024&postcount=2

So my process will be...
1. Downgrade hboot to 1.44
2. Change back my cid to HTC__002 (when i flashed the RUU from the GPE i changed it to GOOGL001)
3. Flash the RUU zip
Is that right?

you don't have to go back to hboot 1.44
If your RUU is 4.xx flash a 3.xx firmware first
or 3.xx RUU a 3.xx or 2.xx firmware will work.
you may also need the MID change tool if you changed it also

The 1.28.401.7 is Jelly Bean it's equal to a 3.xx.xxx.x RUU
So the Firmware you would want is this http://xda7.androidrevolution.org/db_mirror/Firmware/HTC/HTC_One/401/2.24.401.8.zip

[Q] RUU to downgrade 4.2.2 to 4.1.2?

Alright, so my friend has an AT&T One and it had 1.26.502.10 firmware (like mine), but he had some camera issues... He decided to do all the modding (root, s-off, etc...) and upgraded to 4.2.2 firmware 2.24. His camera issues continue, and he plans on returning to 4.1.2 with the available RUU that returns the phone to 1.26.502.12. He is s-off, supercid, unlocked bootloader, rooted, running twrp 2.6.0.1 and is on stock rooted 2.24.401.1 Rom. I thought of just using that RUU to return him to fully stock, but since it has all the mods I'm not really sure if I should take another approach or other steps. Please help me out here, I don't wanna brick his phone (even though he's taking it to be replaced). Thanks in advanced!
just download this and run it
https://support.htc.com/en-us/010-H..._Maintenance_Release_Instructions_|_5.30.2013
he couldnt run this with out the mods
Just run the RUU, as he's S-OFF there should be no issues

There's the odd thread here and there saying if you're on the 1.54 HBOOT you need to downgrade to 1.44 before the RUU will work but try it first and see how you get on

Hmm, will I get a kind of error during the RUU process that might possibly brick the device or will it warn me before the RUU process starts? Can I and should I just flash the 1.44 RUU from fastboot before starting the RUU? The phone's on 2.24 right now with the modded 1.54 hboot (I know he first has to flash the original, but can/should he flash the 1.44 instead?).
EDIT: As far as I've read till now, the ones having errors were converted to Google Edition with GE hboot and all... I did read about 2 people (one with 2.17 and the other with 2.24 like my friend's phone) both on 1.54 hboot and it worked for both of em. I'm just gonna go ahead and flash the RUU on my friend's phone and hope for the best

[Q] Downgrade HBoot/firmware for repair?

Hi,
I want to send my HTC One in for repair, so first I need to restore it to stock.
However, I recently updated my firmware (and hboot) to the new 4.4.3 base (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2793539) so right now I am (s-off) on hboot 1.57.0000... Is this a problem when sending it in since this firmware isn't officially released yet (or is it)? And if it is, is it possible to downgrade my hboot?
Also, must I flash the firmware WITH the red warning before going S-on and locking the bootloader again?
I have flashed the stock odexed ROM, boot.img and recovery from the ARHD site (http://android-revolution-hd.blogspot.nl/p/android-revolution-hd-mirror-site-var.html).
Thanks in advance for any help!
No that firmware isn't officially released yet, it's still in testing stages so you will have to downgrade your firmware to 5.??.401.? Lucky for you this firmware comes with hboot 1.57 however if you have flashed a modded hboot/firmware ie to remove red text, then you will need to flash an official one, just find the official firmware package and use that, it comes with the hboot inside it, if you s-on with modded firmware or hboot you will have an instant brick.
The arhd site your got the Rom from should have the firmware package too.

Great, thanks! I will flash the original firmware in a sec, but the most recent RUU I can find is this one: http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ruu_m7_...0-38r-1157-04l_release_353069_signed_2-1-exe/
And I am not sure if that is also based on hboot 1.57 and because of that, if I am able to flash this RUU. Currently I am downloading it but the download speed is terrible, I will report back after I tried.
Or are you saying that I can flash the stock firmware 5.xx.401.xx on top of the current 6.xx firmware? I thought that wouldn't be possible because I'm currently on a higher firmware version but I'll give it a shot!
If you are s-off, you can flash or downgrade anything, however I would personally flash the matching firmware to the ruu that you are downloading, however, the firmware and hboot will be included in the ruu and be downgraded when you run the ruu, so just run it, once it's finished and you boot the phone, you can ota up to the latest version.

You may have to remove the TAMPERED flag before running the ruu and also lock your bootloader, not relocked as the ruu will replace which ever recovery you ha e on your phone for the stock one, sometimes the ruu requires a locked bootloader whether s-off or s-on.
Once it's finished, boot the phone once and then back into bootloader and check the hboot version, if it is lower than the version you have on there now then you'll know you have stock hboot and should be safe to s-on, however like I said before, make sure your locked and tampered has gone before setting s-on (not sure if s-on is required for warranty)

At the moment I don't have a tampered flag, it only says 'unlocked'. I'll try to lock the bootloader before starting the RUU. Do you know if the Tampered flag will return if I S-ON my M7 after completing the RUU?

Unfortunately I don't know that, there's been some reports it comes back after you s-on not after the ruu, I think it's HTC 's way of catching you out, others say it's been fine, are you sending it to HTC or your operator ?
---------- Post added at 04:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:12 PM ----------
However , if you've had s-off with that phone before, chances are you'll get it again, you'll just have to do whatever you did before to get it, then go back to stock again, and send it s-off.

[Q] I need help with restoring my One to stock for warranty purposes.

Hi!
I've already read like a million tutorials on how to do that, but I think they won't work on my phone. I have the international unlocked version that I later converted to Google Play Edition. So now I have a GPE bootloader, TWRP recovery and root. Below I include a picture of my bootloader. My hboot is 1.54 so I can't use revone to relock the bootloader and make it s-on again, right? I really need you help guys, what should I do?
Edit: I downloaded this RUU "RUU M7 UL K44 SENSE55 MR HTC Europe 4.19.401.9 R Radio 4A.23.3263.28 10.38r.1157.04L Release 353069 Signed 2-1 " - will it work on my phone? I'm not doing anything yet, because I don't want to brick it.
Edit 2: I downgraded my hboot to 1.44 and my phone still hasn't blown up so I guess that's a good sign.

if your phone was on a x.xx.401.x version originally, then use the 1.28.401.7 ruu, then remove *tampered* and *relocked* banner using guru bootloader reset tool by booting a custom recovery using "fastboot boot recovery.img". You can then turn back s-on and send your phone. Everything is described in nkk71's guide linked in my signature.
Don't forget to set back your original CID and MID if you have changed them to convert your phone to GPE before running the ruu
Can't I use the RUU I downloaded? It's 4.19.401.9. I'm not sure what the original number was, but according to the download page it's compatible with my MID and CID.

not for warranty purpose cause you must be on hboot 1.44 or 1.54 to remove the "tampered" and "relocked" flags form bootloader.
4.x.401.x ruu is hboot 1.55
1.x.401.x ruu is hboot 1.44
@alray I didn't know RUUs could also update hboot. Thank you for the information. So the 1.x.401.x files are Jelly Bean RUUs, but I'll be able to update to kitkat over the air when I'm done restoring to stock?

Ruu update everything, firmware and software.
Yes you'll be able to take ota update after but don't update before you have removed tampered and relocked from the bootloader. Follow instructions in the guide.

If you are able to achieve s-off again yes.
They will probably update your phone so it might be more difficult to achieve when it comes back.
@alray I'm having a problem with the guide you linked. It says to enter CWM recovery and use adb commands to remove flags and lock the bootloader, but I can't use any adb commands inside CWM. How do I fix this?
Edit: OK, I fixed this by using TWRP instead of CWM. Can I leave S-OFF and update the device normally, then restore it to GPE after I receive it back from service?

do not update the phone now, just turn back s-on and send it for repair. Its easier to get back s-off on lower version so better not to take any ota, however they will maybe update your phone at the service center (hopefully not).

[Q] OTA 5.02 Update with TWRP

Hello,
I have looked on xda for an answer before i started this thread but couln't really find the answer or solution i'm personally looking for.. The problem is a friend of mine is S-On with an ex-contract HTC One (M7) CID is something like VODA..... and his HBoot is 1.57.0000 - I'm trying to S-Off his phone so he can get rid of the Vodafone and Flash Firmware and European RUU (This is i can do) but i need to S-Off it 1st ... I installed TWRP so as to root his phone and unlocked the bootloader (HTCDev unlock token) BUT now the problem is, he's just had the Lollipop 5.02 OTA update and of course, cannot instal it with TWRP present :/ i was told just to flash Stock recovery over it? is this correct? and if so, how would i go about it please and how would i get S-Off on his mobile please? I'm lead to believe that Sunshine S-Off is the only option with that HBoot version.. ?
Many thanks in advance to xda and its members :good:

better to achieve s-off now before taking the ota update or you will need to wait for the new release of sunshine (3.0).
Yes sunshine is the only way to achieve s-off on hboot 1.57.
Achieve s-off

change mid (if required) to PN0710000
flash the latest ruu 7.19.401.2

No you don't understand, you must use the fastboot version posted at page 4 or it will not work. Read the post you'll understand. The regular fastboot from the Android sdk won't work for this RUU.

I discovered that last night i kinda knew anyway that i could not change the CID without S-Off but with everything going on i forgot.. iv'e decided to stick Android Revolution HD 91.1 on his HTC One.. at least he'l have 5.02 and a quick & reliable OS ... iv'e head that 5.02 is the last OTA update for the M7 so it wouldn't matter if he can't update ..cheers for your help anyway
Sorry, i only read half your reply - will i need to change CID for Android Revolution HD? will this be safe to flash onto his device please?

[Q] Can I downgrade 6.06 to 1.29 with S-OFF

Hi all, I was just wondering if I should run the RUU ZIP or EXE if I am on S-OFF.
I currently have the 6.06.401.1 firmware along with the stock 6.06.401.1 rom. I need to return to the stock 1.29.707.1 for my HTC__044 before taking the latest OTA to Android Lollipop.
So far, I have used my S-OFF to change my bootloader to *LOCKED* and flashed stock recovery and stock rom for the 6.06.401.1.
I currently have both the 1.29.707.1 RUU EXE and ZIP. Which one should I use? I read that I need to have the 1.44 Hboot but I currently have the 1.54 Hboot.
Halp?
uhm, what? this is nonsense , the lastest available RUU is "4.19.401.9" which must be flashed under hboot 1.56 ... there is no need to go to initial release of android 4.1!
WARNING!!! YOU MUST FLASH HBOOT 1.56 BEFORE APPLYING 4.19.401.9 RUU
RUU: http://d-h.st/KmT
+There is no need to LOCK your bootloader to get an OTA update... Mine is always unlocked and never had a problem with OTA's
+RUU's work only under S-OFF

you can use the RUU you have fine 4.20.707.1, you'll just have to make sure your cid and mid match first, and also just flash the 4.20.707.1 firmware first, this will put you on the correct HBOOT and system files for the RUU, no need to lock your bootloader with s-off.
or you can skip all of that and just flash the 7.19.401.2 RUU right now as your phone is as your already on the 6.xx.401.x firmware.
you don't really have any reason to back flash.

But I can't seem to find a 4.20.707.1 RUU. I only have the 1.29.707.3 firmware. I need a region specific one because I need to trade my phone in.
Could you point me in the direction of a 4.20.707.1 RUU zip?
Also, is it safe to OTA update if I flash back to 1.29 with S-OFF?
Edit: Crap I made a typo in my OP, I mean that I have the 1.29 RUU EXE and ZIP right now.

I thought you said you had the 4.20.707.1 RUU
if not then you'll have to use the 1.29.707 one that you have, you'll just have to flash the 1.44 hboot first or the firmware that matches the RUU.

Yeah I had a typo.
So yeah, I have both the EXE and ZIP RUU.
I'm thinking that the ZIP RUU has the 1.44 hboot no?
Also, most importantly, can I take official OTA updates while I am S-OFFed?

yes you can take OTA's whilst s-off, do not go s-on at any point.
I would also say try the RUU.zip first.

Righto. Will report back again.
I hope the guy at the store doesn't go into the bootloader when I trade my m7 in. Even then I already set the flag to locked so I think he'll miss that S-OFF portion.

Actually, problem. :/
I have a matching CID which is HTC__044 but the modelid is PN0714000.
The RUU's android-info has a matching CID of HTC__044 but a modelid of PN0711000.
What now?

unlock your bootloader, flash twrp recovery and change your mid, are you sure your using the RUU for the M7_UL as that looks a lot like the M7_U mid too me, can you give me a link for the RUU's you downloaded please.
---------- Post added at 11:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:57 AM ----------
here you go, do this instead, this is going to be a bit backwards and forwards.
Unlock your bootloader, and flash TWRP recovery, then use the mid change tool to change your mid to the correct one.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712469376
next copy this guru reset file to your internal storage and flash it, select no to stock radio and no to stock recovery: http://www.htc1guru.com/2013/11/guru-reset-3-63-707-4-stock-rom/
now lock your bootloader
and finally flash the matching firmwqare from here: http://d-h.st/BWu this will put stock recovery and stock radio on your phone.

I actually ran the RUU. It's now stuck on waiting for device after the usual flush after 90 hboot pre-update.
I changed the modelid in the android-info.txt since it was decrypted.
Anyone help me?
My computer can't see the device anymore after flashing the hboot!

if your using windows 8 or higher then that's the problem, HBOOT 1.44 doesn't work with it, there is a fix around here somewhere by @clsA but ive never had to use it myself.
trouble with changing the android-info text file is all of the OTA's will fail due to you having the wrong mid on your phone, you'll have to change your phones mid as soon as possible.

Ok, I have changed to an old Windows 7 laptop and tried doing the fastboot flash zip again. After I press enter, nothing happens at all. Not a single code at all. Just a blinker.
Edit: Started moving again. Phew. I almost had a heart attack.
So now do I do the fastboot writemid command?

to change the mid you need to use the mid change tool I posted a link to it earlier, install it inside twrp recovery then select the mid you require from the list it gives you.

It's okay now. I found a matching mid RUU for my phone.
But my question now is should I go S-ON to remove the red "This is a test device. Accordingly, to collect critical information about the device, Tell HTC is enabled and cannot be turned off regardless of device settings" warning? Or just leave it S-OFF and hope that the techies at the store doesn't notice it?
More questions
I have done all the OTAs now so should I do the fastboot oem writesecureflag 3 as the final step before putting the phone aside to trade it in?

no, leave it s-off, if you turn it back s-on now you will get the tampered flag back.
