Hi!
I have a HTC J One HTL22 with firmware version 2.21.970.2 and hboot 1.54.
How can I get S-off, root and other things? (in english, please)
I'm getting desperate.. I've found only chinese/japanese tutorials, I only know english.
Please help me..
http://theroot.ninja/
I want something free, I don't have any credit card or paypal things.. and I went to a service in my town and guess what, they didn't know how to unlock it. (they guessed it has a hardware malfunction if the device doesn't require any unlock code when you insert another sim..)

Sorry you won't find much support on your phone here
your only the 2nd person I've heard that has one.
If HTCDEV.com doesn't unlock it and the temproot methods don't work I'm lost.
HTC Dev won't work.. because I need Super CID and for SCID I need Super User, about temproot I don't know much.
Maybe I could use temproot combined with rumrunner? (is there any tutorial of using temproot ?)

you don't need anything for HTCDEV.com to work ..where are you getting this info ?
The temproot instructions are in the Verizon HTC One forums

HTCDEV.com isn't working because it gives an error about CID.. (it looks like au didn't want us to change roms and things).
EDIT:
I've did it on my own, thank you anyway.

I tried search for something that could answer this question I have, but couldn't find anything, so i'll ask it here.
Do we HAVE To use HTC Dev to unlock this device's bootloader? I saw there are 2 S-OFF methods available, do those unlock the bootloader?
I'm coming from an EVO 3D and I remember just using the Revolutionary method with HBOOT 1.40.000 and it was a smooth process but once new versions of the same device came out, people had to use the HTC Dev to unlock before a workaround came out.
If there isn't any other method, is there any production of such a method where you don't need to use HTC Dev?
Again, i'm just now switching over to this section of the forums (after watching the progression for a bit already) and just trying to get an idea of what's going on with this device.
Thanks!
P.S: the reason i ask this is because i'm not sure what AT&T's outlook is on unlocked\rooted devices for any warranty purposes. I've returned a device to S-ON, reinstalled the stock RUU and returned a device (my Sprint EVO 3D) and didn't have a problem, but I don't know how AT&T is and this new HTC One device.
Using HTC Dev is the only way....all the toolkits in this forum will direct you to the HTC Dev website as they issue the key in which you need to unlock your bootloader.

If you're on hoot 1.44, you can use revone to unlock and/or S-off.
Smh. S-off via revone method for sure unlocks bootloader without Htcdev.

Smh. Not everyone can know everything about every device at all times. Questions lead to things that couldn't be discovered with looking around and reading.
Thanks for your response though.
So this is what you 2 are referencing, right?

I sent the request to add the 2.15.970.1 firmware, not realising it needed to be unlocked first, but a bg thankyou to the dev anyway.
After i researched a bit I realised that to simply flash cusom roms s-off is unnecessary and a simple unlock is good enough.
Anyway i found this great guide htcsoku.info/htcsokudev-news/au-m7-215to105-downgrade/ on how to downgrade then s-off or unlock with revone.
I managed to unlock the sim by following the guide as as far as gaining root shell then used this guide htcsoku.info/htcsokudev-news/au-m7-device-sim-unlock/ to simply unock the sim without touching anything els.
I then used theguid to downgrade and unlock anotherday, although it may be possible to follow the guide as far as gaining root then trying revone without downgrading,
Sorry this is my first so xda prevented me from attaching actual links, hope this helps some people.

Im also having a very hard time with something.....
I really hope somebody here can help me. I'm desperate and have tried everything. I purchased my AU HTC J One and it had 4.1.2 (1.07.970.4) on it. I was anxious to start playing around with it so I followed an instruction on how to install TWRP. So I unlocked , Installed TWRP, then rooted. Everything was great until an OTA came out. I wanted to update but found out very quickly that without stock recovery I cannot do OTA. Well here is the real problem. I do not have the stock recovery any more and cannot find it. Another user gave me what he though was the stock recovery, I flashed it and then tried thee OTA. All I get is a picture of the phone with a big red triangle with an exclamation point. If I hold up volume and hit power I can see where it started the update and immediately aborted. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would really like to update to system 4.2.2 and hopefully in the future to 4.3 , 4.4 but as it stand now Im stuck with 4.1.2... I know there are some smart guys out there that could give me a hand with this. PLEASE>>>>

What software version, and h-boot version are you on?
If your not sure how to get that info, you have a lot of research ahead of you... but if you reeally want to you can still get it done.

I tried using HTC dev site to unlock bootloader but it failed
Error Code: 170.
Error Reason: CID Not Allowed.
You have to s-off and get super cid before you can unlock the boot loader
Your software version should allow you follow this guide
Following that you can try the same steps I did, but well most likely need a different version of recovery, the non 4.2.2 version

No you shouldn't loose warranty, just requesting a unlock tocken, doesnt actually mean you used it (if they actually bother checking??), and there are quite a few guides to go back to 100% stock (including my guide, in my signature... shameless advertising )

That's a good guide, but now that the newer tools are out, you can even remove TAMPERED and set to LOCKED not relocked.
Agreed but he has to start somewhere and it's as handy a guide as any.

totally correct... no provider or manufacture cares esp htcdev... i had to return my on 3 different times all were unlocked and they never bothered to check. It was because of the camera too. I returned the phone 3 times to sprint they didnt care at all... the last time i didnt even bother returning it to stock. When i got my 4th phone and saw taht the camera was still **** i wrote a letter to htc and sent it to them... they replaced it and never ever ever questioned me why it was unlocked.
Hi there, sorry for my first post being so needy...
I am trying to root my HTC J One and it seems that I first need to S-OFF the device. I'm trying to use Rumrunner as my bootloader is at 1.54 unfortunately...but I get the error "looks like device is not rooted AND lacks an unsecure kernel. su or FU!!"
I'm using the HTC Universal version of rumrunner as there doesn't seem to be a device specific version for the HTC J One.
I've uninstalled HTC Sync Manager and uninstalled my virus scanning software and turned off my firewall. Anyone have any suggestions on where to go next? Thank you for your help!

Firstly, only the Verizon HTC One needs to be S-OFF'ed prior to root. All other models need to be bootloader unlocked and rooted to get S-OFF.

It seems as mentioned here that Revone / Rumrunner are needed to unlock the bootloader, but neither seem to be working (revone doesn't work as my bootloader is version 1.54, I did try it anyway though...and rumrunner gives me the error mentioned above...
Or is all of this unnecessary to root it? I kind of hope it is!

You cannot see the mainver because you flashed a recovery that wiped that info.

nope, the developers charge you a very small price in my opinion due to the amount of phones they brought and destroyed creating sunshine, $25 is nothing to what it cost them to develop it.
