Hey, does anyone here know that if I root mybz1 and I notice somekind of problems in hardware or something. Ofcourse my warranty is voided since I rooted my phone, but if I unroot, will there be any kind of "fingerprint" of root or will I be clear with simple unrooting? I heard that samsung had somekind of counter that is unable to reset etc. So the ppl who repair phones will see that you have rooted it even you unrooted it. So long story short, if I unroot my phone will it bring back the warranty?

Rooting does not void warranty, only unlocking the bootloader does.
To unroot just flash a Stock FTF, there is no sign of root after you do this.
Thanks! And to spoil everything.. What is ftf? ?

(F)lash(T)ool (F)ile.
Find them by searching for the FTF mega collection thread in the general section. Its not to hard to find.

Morning Friends,
I need to take my Z to a service center.
Now, I have a custom recovery (CWM Based), bootloader is unlocked, and a deodexed and rooted 434 firmware installed.
From what I know, the bootloader is not a problem - Just relock it with Flash tool. The recovery is what I'm worried about.
If I reflash my region's 434 Stock ROM, will it override my Recovery (and therefor Custom Kernel)? I need to leave no traces behind and as far as I know, there's no way to just uninstall a custom recovery as they're fused with the Kernel.
Ftf will restore everything
I have seen that you have said your BL is unlocked if so did you back up your TA partition before unlocking, if you didn't then you can't get your warranty back

I didn't. Meh. Worth a shot anyhow... Think they check for DRM keys? I believe they only verify if the bootloader is locked or unlocked...
If you have a hardware fault then they should honour the warranty regardless of bootloader status
Yup, there's a small rip that I didn't cause in the rubber of the headphones flap, so it keeps popping open by itself.
Nevertheless, I wouldn't like to take any chances in case they decide to check the software on the phone.

When the arc s first came out people unlocked there bootloader and later they found out that there was a screen fault on it, Sony wouldn't touch the unlocked ones and voided the warranty on it

Well, thing is, this is a Sony certified retailer I'm talking about - Of course they have their set of clear instructions from Sony, but they might slack off a bit - Or like Michealtbh said, might take care of it with or without any connection to the Bootloader.
Worth a shot.
Worst case scenario I'll have to look for replacement flaps and a private lab that'll install it.
I want to get a replacement for my Z1(Bell Canada) which has a screen problem by using DOA.
However, I'm not sure it is possible, because I used flashtool to upgrade S/W(.534 to .257) but I didn't do unlocking and rooting.
Does it void warranty or matter?
If anyone have similar or same experience here, please let me know.

Using flashtool should not void your warranty. Unlocking the bootloader voids it, but even then you can usually just get away with restoring the TA partition to relock the bootloader and get the warranty back. You should be fine, though if the 257 you flashed is for a different region or carrier than your original, you could always just flash the version meant for your phone to be safe

Exacttly what spartan said. I had my z1 replaced because of the same exact problem as yours, but my phone wat all stock (the only mod was made by the dealer i got it from - they unlocked it from orange).
However, if your phone was branded before you used flashtool, you shoul flash it again with a firmware specific to whatever carrier you got it from ... just to be safe.
Hi!
I want to root my Xperia Z, but I am afraid of lose my warranty.. I am new to Android, I have been a iOS user for years..
Well.. My question is: Can I root my phone without losing my warrany? If I root withous unlocking the bootloader and do not install any custom ROMs? If so.. Will I be able to run "root apps"?
Thank you for all answers
(I know there may be a few grammar/spelling mistakes, but I am norwegian, so do your'e best to understant )
Rooting without unlocking the bootloader will not invalidate your warranty.
Even if it did, there are ways to return your phone to a factory state with no trace of root if you need to send it in for repair.
Yes, rooting is enough to run root apps (maybe busybox is needed, but most root toolkits install it anyway).

Hello.
Im abit new to the forum but here goes.
Ive read tons of posts everywhere and there aint any exact answers anywhere to find.
In the past ive never known about the TA and DRM so happy as i am i just unlocked the bootloader on all the phones and still happy. The latest phone is the Xperia Z1. It has been abit buggy to say the least but im hoping software updates will cure this.
Anyway, i rooted my phone and unlocked the bootloader on the .681 firmware and now i am on .757 firmware. Using Doomlords kernel. I thought id check if i could backup my TA partition after unlocking the bootloader. And from what ive read its suppose to be wiped when you unlock the bootloader.
Well it was no problem backing up the TA partion. All files were there and it came out with no errors. So the question, how is this possible ?
/Jonas740
No, it's been wiped, if you restore that TA you will not relock your phone and you will not get the drm keys back, it's possible because unlocking "wipe "your original ta partition and replaced it, so you have backed up a post unlocking partition, not a pre unlocking partition
Also, please post questions in the correct form

Aha, just wanted to sort things since ppl were saying that it was completely wiped when unlocking bootloader. And when I checked it wasn't.
Although, after numerous tests with the phone I can't understand what use the DRM keys is. Everything works just like it should without them.
Another question though. If I relock my phone with flashtool. What is the way to unlock it after? The official way won't work again I guess?

No it doesn't, you will need to ensure you use flashtool to re unlock. However, you will also need to make sure you have the correct folder tree
I think maybe the newest version of flashtool does this, but there are a couple of posts in DooMLoRDs thread tutorial thread in the development section about it.
The main difference I notice with an unlocked bootloader is the inability to use PCComapnion to update, but that's not a big issue for as I can create the FTF and create a flashable .zip from it....
Ye updating with Sony software won't work nor the over the air update. But that's about it as I've seen.
But I remember on my Sony Xperia V that when I relocked it, then I could use Sony update again and I did so wiping everything before I sent that one to the repair shop. They repaired it and I got it back. All under warranty
The latest update .757 is really buggy, hope they fix it. Phone restarts sometimes when using the camera.

because i posted it wrong and couldtn delete it and made the same post in the correct forum and told moderator to delete the wrongly posted one. The moderator moved the thread instead so hence double posting and he kinda locked the wrong thread
No, he locked the one you made second. The first one you made always has priority
Can those with the knowhow work on getting us root on the 28.0.A.8.266 please. So frustrating not able to make use of ad blocking app like AdAway and other apps that need root permission (Titanium, xposed, etc).
Thank you.
Eureka, I've found it. I flashed the .266 firmware over the .251 firmware using flashtool without wiping anything. Afterwards, I used @dl12345,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...p-v2-8-7-0-sony-z3-e6553-ivykitakami-t3198009 from .251 to install TWRP and root it. Don't forget to flash SuperSU-v2.46.zip through recovery after the dual-boot zip to get root.
Danke and Happy New Year in advance.
Root only with unlocked bootloader. U Will loose some sony features. Maybe if we flash and old system ftf we can perform dirty root.

I'm aware you can only root with unlocked bootloader. I perfectly know of the risks involved, by the way I unlocked my phone's long time ago when root exploit became available for this phone on earlier firmware.
I even got a new replacement phone off Sony (bootloader since unlocked) when my screen cracked and I sent it off for repairs.
In life, "no pain no gain". ??
I constantly check this forum for any news on root this firmware version, am already unlocked and my camera didn't focus as it should be, I really didn't notice any other feature down.
Getting new updates feels like more far away to get root...
Thx about the info. I almost open my bl. I dont understand why sony makes camera worst openning the bl. this is the only thing That freezening to open my bl. Did You try to Apple the mods for it (like 2.0 GHz and Quick change 2.0)?

I'll be perfectly honest. I see no difference in my camera since I unlocked the bootloader
Even in low Light environment?

Lol! You know the focus here was on root for unlocked bootloader on. 266 firmware because nothing yet in sight as far as locked bootloader is concerned.
