Hi everybody!
Has there been any kernel and ROM development for the Z3 Compact, because I hope to buy it?
My second choice would be the S5 Mini but again I have not seen any development.
( Reasons for my choices are weight and size, being a girl I have seem to have been given smaller hands so giant sized phones have been dropped. )
Thanks lots and kind regards,
Soph.
P.S I'll post this on the s5 min forum also
Its kinda hard to develop for a phone which hasn't been released yet.
I can buy them here.

EDIT
no I cannot! I thought they'd released this. My apologies.

This should be available in NL in 11 days, because when I try and place the order they say it won't ship for eleven day:

You need to be patient, developers need time, most people in north america who preordered from the UK retailers won't even get it until next week. I wouldn't expect boot loader unlocks or root until late next week at the absolute insanely earliest

Actually you can already unlock the bootloader > http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/
I'm going to try it this evening. Afterwards maybe try Framaroot to see if the existing exploits to obtain Root access also work on this device.
I'm also personally waiting for CM; the xperia ROM feels really strange to use. Does anyone know roughly how long CM take to make a ROM for a new phone if they decide to support it?

A lot of it comes down to how many people (developers in particular) want or get the phone. I'm hoping that there will be a decent community behind the Z3C as many people don't want larger phones anymore and this still has decent specs and a great battery life. We'll have to wait and see, but CM isn't a necessity if you just want the options that CM exposes to the uses - there's plenty of ways to customise the device.
Personally, I'd be happy with root and a more vanilla android version without some of the Sony customisations.

Anyway, what makes you think that flashing a custom recovery is "easier" then getting root access?

It is not easier. It is more reliable. And most importantly, even though I was doing something to get root, and do not sit in my panties like you in anticipation of a good magician.

This isn't a carrier-subsidized phone, it's a Nexus. Unlocking the bootloader and thus root is a feature fully supported out of the box.
Nothing special here, you can easily root any Nexus device.
We buy Nexus devices because we expect its bootloader to be easily unlocked (fastboot oem unlock) and easy to root, and the direct Google updates.
Sent from my R800x
Everyone knows on nexus its just a case of fastboot oem unlock
I was hoping for a source, cause who ever it is already has their hands on a device... we could get a system dump maybe?
Wow, amazing.. Or not. You only need one command to unlock a nexus phone, it is a built in feature.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
im glad everyone knows how to unlock the bootloader, that doesnt give you root though.
with custom kernel that means someone had to have pulled the stock image off using an exploit that works on 4.2 (in which case the device in question may be fully stock except root). with custom recovery it isnt impossible to do without the stock kernels but it certainly makes it a bit more time consuming.
so while im happy everyone knows its indeed a nexus device this proves 1 of two things, someone already has a 4.2 ready exploit (doubt it would go public any time soon tho), or some for of custom recovery is already made for the device.

The only purpose of an exploit on a device with an unlockable AND relockable bootloader is to save some people from wiping /data. That's it. You can achieve the exact same thing with unlock->root->lock. There was only a couple people who seemed to possibly be implying that unlock bootloader means root. The rest of us were saying with open source recovery and fastboot oem unlock and the fact that exploits don't matter, the rooting of this device is a forgone conclusion.

As i said in my post i get that custom recoveries are used for that. everyone seemed to be bashing this thread but as i said it holds more valuable information than most of the threads on this forum. if someone made a custom recovery then chances are day one of shipment it will publicly available and everyone can root using it, its a step towards development regardless, you wouldnt shun someone showing off TWRP/CWM on the N4 saying "oh its a nexus that was easy.." its the same work to get root.
if this was rooted using an exploit then even better news IMO, sure its "fairly" useless on this device (although using it you can then grab dumps of the images and make recovery etc). but there are a lot of devices out there who could use this exploit.
but yes i agree that this phoen would have had a way to root very quickly regardless, just amazed to see people think they could root it the same way as they did their other nexus devices (which prolly had recovery before they got the device)
Excuse my n00by question here, but if I were to unlock my bootloader which I am going to do as soon as my N4 has some charge, that isn't going to give me Root which is what I want but eh.
Is there any known working method of rooting this device at the moment? Is it likely that Bin4ry's ICS/JB exploit will work here?

I had the same problem with mine. Then I just forgot about it. Then about a week ago, I just decided to try again and it worked. You can also call Motorola customer support. Just tell them you're a developer and you need an unlock. They'll transfer you to their technicians and they can help you get it unlocked.

Read back in the thread a few pages - 1) GeoHot works for Google now. Hired to find and close exploits like the one towelroot used to root devices; 2) towelroot used a specific vulnerability in kernels dated before June 3. If your kernel is dated after June 3, the vulnerability has been patched and there is nothing GeoHot can "fix" to make towelroot work on your device; and related to that 3) either your phone has the vulnerability or it doesn't and towelroot either works to root your device or it doesn't and there is nothing GeoHot can do to fix towelroot to make it work for your device. Plus, like I said before GeoHot works for Google now so he can't create programs or apps that root phones by exploiting vulnerabilities he is supposed to now be fixing. Now that this same question has been answered for the 1,000,000th time in this thread, can we please get it closed?

Look on the bright side. We needed CM and other AOSP variants in the past because most devices performed like crap. Now while not as smooth as stock Android, still rather speedy. Customization can be done with xposed mods.
Even if stuck on stock, it's not really that bad, to be honest.
You guys need to start learning something... for the sake of development...

At least you had the 3G model and official JB (Asia only) . My Wi Fi model was thrown into the dung heap by Samsung after less than 12 months and no official JB or support theater.... Thanks to bodivas for the initial port to the P6810, I could then work from there with newer contributions.
They just ignore the GPL license to support devices for at min of 18 months. There are other OEM that refuse to provide full source too. What does Google do, nothing....
The only way is as you implied, to be proactive and help ourselves (and others) where skill/knowledge and time permit
Good modding !!
More than one way to skin a cat also....
I think they will have support for android L since the specs of the tab S match the requirements of the OS
it's easier for samsung to develop android L for exynos device . i hope my tab will have android L teeheehee

So perhaps something came up on one or more of the test devices not previously seen, it happens.
If that is the case, I personally prefer the that they pull it to fix the issue before it makes it out too thousands of users phones. And suspending rollout makes more business sense than causing customers problems, perhaps even severe problems. :good:

Is there any change on the root impossibility without flashing rooted rom? I've been away from the game forever. Sorry
We won't know until it is released. This update hasn't been released yet. Most likely the typical root method work (cf atuo root and towel root) supersu is already up to date for lollipop OS so if you are rooted just wait till someone makes the stock rom a flashable zip or if you are stock just use any method to root. Remember to back up internal storage as unlocking the bootloader wipes everything.

Considering every other Samsung phone on Lollipop, including the S6, has been rooted the same way as KitKat (CF Auto Root or flash SuperSU.zip in recovery), I think we'll be fine. "Unlocking the bootloader wipes everything"? There are so many things wrong with that statement. Odining a stock tar is the only thing that wipes internal storage (and not all of them do). There is no unlocking of the bootloader on Samsung phones. You flash a custom recovery or if using CF Auto Root it flashes the su binary to system/bin... no wiping on either.

Lol sorry. Haven't Odin back to stock in a while. All i remember was i did something in the "hook my phone up to pc " step then days of grief that i lost everything on my internal storage ...
As you know some ROMs which can be used as daily driver have already landed for Nexus 5 you might want to try and test. Please share your experience with Nougat here :

Cheers, People
It's so fast, i can't even see it.
I will, as soon as some good soul builds a pure stock AOSP ROM, without any modifications (root, busybox, zipalign, deodex, etc).
Just flash a stock Gapps ontop of it, and it will feel like an official Google update. Oh god yes.

As soon as the source code is uploaded to AOSP, I'm sure it'll rain custom N roms here.
Since google hasn't released the source code, wait and see

Do we know when the source code comes out?
This thread is unnecessary considering there is no official/unofficial ROM available. So no one can share their experience.
BUTTTT... as i go through my android feeds, i miss the experience of flashing the latest build of Android on N5 and play around with it. The sense of excitement of having the latest version on my phone where as the remaining phones around are still running the old version. Now, im still running an old version (Marshmallow)

Pardon my ignorance, but, if someone builds from AOSP without modifying anything, and apply the device drivers from the Nexus images website, what's to be wrong?
Isn't that what Google does, besides loading Gapps package altogether?

Yeah, there's that. Luckily Nexus 6 uses a Snapdragon 805 chip, so the devs should be able to adapt to the 800.

nope, it is quite a bit different.
what will be done is use MM drivers until they dont work, then we will use CAF drivers(since the msm8974 branch on there will still be updated for n+)
