Tips for Xperia (v) owners with incompatible headphones - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

Hello all, I need to post 10 messages before being able to post one useful reply in the development part.
Having no idea what to write about, I just transform my (unpostable) answer in a useful thread where more people will find it and where i might even get useful reactions so that we all learn some things.
Ok, to the point:
When using most unofficial headphones, the telephone won't recognise the plug layout.
Depending on the rom/firmware it hasn't got the same consequences.
Sometimes there is sound coming out of the headphones and sometimes there isn't.
With the official Sony roms it wasn't a problem before (just a popup message stating the buttons unavailable) but I had the no sound problem on my V after updating to 4.3 too.
I have an xperia v and before that I had an xperia p, an app called SoundAbout has solved problems for both models, with all kinds of headsets and every rom, both on dalvik and art, so it might work for other models too.
I found it here on xda frontpage a few years ago and it never let me down.
I'm not affiliated with the creators by the way.
We got a free licence for the pro version here ont the xda forum at the time but I lost it and the free version does just fine.
It really is very simple, you start the app and redirect media sound to the headphones.
Another thing that I discovered only last Sunday:
The disadvantage of the SoundAbout app is that the phone considers the outgoing sound as going to the phones speaker, and thus a lot of audio enhancements like headphone surround don't work, you only have the options for the speaker that will have effect.
But I'm running a new rom now, 4.4.4 neowave, the fastest and best battery by far of all roms I have tested.
This rom uses viper4android, where i found an option to lock the settings, so that it is possible to use the headphone options on the speaker sound, and thus for the headphones when used with SoundAbout.
I don't care about mic or buttons working so I have no info about that.
But the sound on my v is finally perfect with my highend headphones, after years of searching how to.
I hope this helps someone, and that it makes other people as happy as I am.

Comon peeps, more than a hundred views but not a single reply?
I don't want to make a 10 post monologue to get to the limit of being able to feedback in rom topics....
Doesn't anybody care about sound quality on his phone ?
Are people getting used to choppy badly decoded music that much?
Am I unique in carying and listening my music on my phone?

I just want to drop by and say that this works indeed for all my NeoWave users, Xperia T ones included.
So if you have any earphone issues, try this app! :good:

Thanks for dropping by
I'm glad it works on the T too.
Personally I tried almost all roms for the V that are/were available here on xda, I haven't counted but that must be more than 20 roms, not counting the updates, and SoundAbout always worked.
For my P also I tried a lot of roms and mods, and no problems encountered with SoundAbout (a lot with incompatible headphones on official roms).
It seems that it is not guaranteed that the mic and buttons work, even with the pro version that has more options, at least that is what I found reading around on the Web, but I'm quite curious about the actual pro version.
Is there anyone that has experience with the pro version ?

I have not tried the pro version, but I have another question..
Do you have any experiences concerning the trial version? Is the usage limited to a certain amount of days or does the app provide most of its features for an unlimited amount of time?

Concerning the media sound routing there is no limitation.
The free version has the following options :
Service - on(background), on(foreground) , on(auto restart), off
Media audio - let app decide, speaker, headphones, headphones (with mic)
Notification behaviour - block notification to speaker on/off
Notification behaviour - block ringtones to speaker on/off
Notification behaviour - speak caller name options
Wired headset behaviour - set detection options when plugged in
In the pro version there are
Phone call redirection settings
Extra settings for text to speach
Bluetooth behavior
Dock behaviour
So, with the free version the headphones do not work for phonecalls.
As I already don't use my headphones for calling, it does not bother me.
hat does work is the widget (1 tile) that toggles sound redirection.

That's great. So the functionality we need is not limited. :good:

What exactly does not work?
It won't autodetect some headphones but if you set service to "on, foreground" and the media audio setting to "wired headphones" ?
Isn't there any sound coming through ?

Is there maybe an app that will make my Xperia V recognise my Nokia (TV Out) RCA cable?

If the jack has a standard layout, it will work.
Not sure that it will recognise it automatically though.

Enable A2DP and/or headset profile for Tilt...

Hello everyone...sorry for bothering, but I'm so frustrated that I'm about to scream...I really need some help here.
I have an AT&T Tilt (Kaiser) running their standard ROM. I just bought a Motorola H780 bluetooth headset for it. The salesperson said that he knew of some people who connected this model to their Tilts and was able to listen to music through it...and even on earpiece box it says that the H780 supports both the Hands Free and Headset profiles. However, I have not been able to accomplish this: it pairs for normal use (phone calls, etc), but nothing else. The "wireless headset" option is greyed out for me; the earpiece only gives me the option to connect using "Hands Free" profile.
I have looked...and looked...and looked for how to do this. The best I found from Google was for people who have Windows Mobile 5 (I have 6)...and even so, I tried a couple of those registry tweaks. On here, I keep running into countless forums that tell you, not how to enable A2DP, but how to improve it (using modified bitpool value in the registry, etc). Can SOMEBODY PLEASE tell me how in the world to get this working? I would really appreciate it...THANKS!
Well this is how i do it. I downloaded this http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=freeware
that is the page then you get a2dp toggle
and then when my bluetooth is on the the headset is on i then go to this program and double click it and it puts another icon by the bluetooth icon and i get sound that way for my music and also calls still come threw too. I am not saying this is the right way but it works great for me...
bluetooth toggle
bluetooth toggle turns on the headset (single ear normal everyday talking sets) like a speakerphone.
all audio will get directed to it, im, e-mail, meeting announcements.
I had a sony headset model, with 12 talk time, nice because it will eat your battery while on ( tilt and headsets rated for talktime will apply to this ) . my plantronics only does 4 hours, so at lunch or when not in use I charge it and phone via usb cable.
I am in IT and most peaple are ok with me wearing bt headset (plantronics 655) and write me off on the gadget side when I wear it 24/7. In reality I listen to music (10% volume on audiomanager) all day (literally) from my 8 gig card.
I have streaming and resco radio, and podcasts. Mostly I converted my common mp3s to wma to have more on the phone and high audio cd quality is not to be expected over bluetooth. The right rom and radio are very helpful and the ability to tun off screen but still play music are all important or battery will suffer even more. using the stock rom and radio will work, just not a good balance team.
duttys roms and a few others had it included btw. I found a way to use audiomanager 1.2 on the new roms with 1 registry setting change to allow suspend mode.
I use a very simple version of it. I attached it because, I searched a bit to find a link, (still recommended for education on the subject) but didn't find it or in the chefs and mods downloads either.
Thanks to both of you for your responses! I appreciate someone taking the time out to help.
Blinkste21957, I tried your solution and it didn't work...for some reason, it saw my headset as being "unusable" (my term) with regards to headset mode. I don't quite know why; my headset clearly says on the box that it is. (Motorola H780). This is why I think that there must be something missing on my phone that will enable the "headset" option for my earpiece.
Acehole, I tried your solution a while back...but it was with the 8525, not the tilt, and with my (previous) plantronics headset. I was less-than-impressed with the problems I had to deal with last time...but I could give it a whirl again with this phone/headset and see what happens.
If anyone knows of anything else I'm missing in terms of "activating" the headset capabilities of my phone (which I thought was supposed to have A2DP), let me know. I'm just very puzzled why, for an earpiece that supports headset mode, my phone would have that option unavailable.
Actually, I think that it is the phone and not the headset. When I had a nokia I was able to listen to music via my bluetooth with no issues. The tilt will not allow you to do this without the use of a third party application. The following is what many people have used and are using as a work around. BTAudio, BlueMusic, A2DPToggle. Tech soft makes BlueMusic and the A2DPToggle and can be found here: http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=products. Unless one of the bright developers here on XDA takes this on, I fear that it will never truly be resolved.
Thanks ACEHOLE.. I was struggling with my iMate.
Someone on here recommended the Sony DR-BT22 some time ago. I bought a pair and they link up and sound is impressive on the Tilt with Windows 6.1
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8458466&st=bluetooth&type=product&id=1184369168158
I can also control forward and reverse functions of the player with them too.
Bluetooth - especially compatibility - is still one temperamental beast! My car's built-in hand-free made me and the poor guy from AT&T a believer. They can plaster A2DP, HSF, HDP, ESP, JMDP, whatever on the box and it it means squat as to whether it will work or not. Only ones that do are manufacturer-to-manufacturer....sometimes.
Mack
If you have WM 6.1, and if you have a headset with the A2DP profile (NOTE this is not the same as the "headset" profile) then you can listen to music without any problem. If you don't have both, then you need to mess with the software add-ons mentioned earlier in this thread .
As for me, I got the excellent Jabra BT8040 and it works great with My Kaiser with stock 6.1. Only about $30 too.

HD2 and sony erricson mw600 review

Hey guys, i`ve been browsing the site for a while and thought it about time to make an original contribution. I was looking for a blue tooth headset and my searches here lead me to the MW600. quite a few people were asking about it so i thought it a good opportunity to give my review now that i have one!
from the start then, i bought this as i have a very nice pair of headphones i wanted to use with the phone, but could not be doing with cords. most bluetooth headsets have their own headphones which i get along with even less. this seemed a perfect solution to both problems.
the box it comes in is flimsy at best, indeed the plastic tab to hang the box on is completely lose, useless for hanging up in a shop.
out the box, its a lot smaller than i imagined but a bit thicker too. it comes with a charger that handily also fits the HD2 which is an added bonus and un expected!
when i paired up to the phone i was very surprised to find that the unit displayed the song info correctly. i honestly did not expect this to work outside of a sony erricson phone but it works! the next track and previous track buttons work as well, as does the play and stop buttons.
the hands free works fine as well with the person who called me not knowing i was on a hands free.
the volume control is awful, they decided to use a slider that half the time does not register me raising the volume and when it does its impossible to get the right volume setup, its either too high or too low and the slider is too imprecise to get the setting i want!
I cannot comment on the enclosed head phones as i never used them!
When i play some music through the device ( and that is of course what its for) the results are slightly dispaointing. the sound is okay, but that is about as best as i can describe it. maybe its because i am spoilt by the good quality output from the 3.5mm jack on the phone, maybe i am just used to having some EQ on (which the unit does not provide for and the phone says it cannot apply `audio booser` without somer thing being plugged in the 3.5mm jack) but the bass is there (thanks on no small part to the ehadphones rather than the unit) but the mid seems `transparent` with no real hit and the highs are annoyingly 'sparkly'. This os of course my opinion, and others may find the output perfectly fine and for comparison i also do not like the output of ipods as i find their mid lacking as well so if your happy with i pod output you maybe happy with this units output,
I have never needed to re charge the unit yet after 3 days of having it and listing to it in the morning for 2 hours and on the way home for an hour so the battery seems quite good.
I love the unit but the quality of the output means i will only really use it when i have to, prefering to use the audio jack output, i am however going to look into how the unit works as i suspect the phone is sending SBD encode audio and not the native mp3. if i can ge tthe unit to decode MP3 and the phone to send mp3 then i think we have a winner!
For reference i used CD originals encoded to lame 3.98 -V1.
just ordered mine. thanks for the review. i will also post up my opinion of the headset when it arrives. if it is as good as the include wired version, that will be good enough for me.
Hey thanks for the review as I'm getting one but you didn't speak about the radio does it work? anything else? cheers mate
Thanks for your review.
But could you edit it so that it's not so hard to read?
Spaces between a few sentences would suffice.
Thanks for the review, install WOW SRS and it should improve the sound quality via bluetooth but it will kill audio booster when plugged with the 3.5mm jack and always use WOW SRS.
Vrery nice, all working apart from Cyberon voice dialer, you can initiate Cyberon voice application by clicking the phone button on headset but can't pass voice to the phone as it doesn't recognize voice. It looks like the problem relates to cyberon not mw600.

The Miri V10 ROM is on the HTCpedia forums (I think it is V11 now, not tried it)
Just got mine, tried it and I have to say:
THE MUSIC QUALITY IS CRAP!!!!!
headphones arrived today. WOW. excellent audio and far better than oem headphones. have yet to play with it on radio etc, but so far very impressive.
I have a problem
After the end of any audio file
Lose "stereo audio" connection
and have to push the play button to reconnect "stereo audio"
and also
After the end of calls
Lose "Hands Free" connection
and have to push the Talk button to reconnect "Hands Free"
but if i received a call
"Hands Free" reconnect automatically
But there is a delay for two seconds
I do not know this is normal?
Like power autosaving!!!
this is definately not normal. mine works flawlessly. no need to reconnect ever. i would suggest checking your bluetooth settings and pairing settings again to make sure everything is correct.
I am using smartWatchM with Sony Ericsson MBW-150
I think there is a conflict between the Watch and mw600 connection
The problem is from latest windows build (23569) & (21903 )
When i go back to an old build like (23519)
There is no conflict between the Watch and mw600 connection
Waiting for a solution to this problem or update for Windows without problems
Delays
Does anyone else experience a 3-5 sec delay when the HD2 jumps 1 song/chapter forward?
My combination gives a this delay, which is especially annoying when listening to audiobooks!
I miss a few seconds of every new chapter, need to manually jump 1 chapter forward and the back again.
Does not appear when manually going forward/reverse only when HD2 is in control.

Bluetooth audio router ?

I can't seem to find a program which will route ALL audio to my mono bt earpiece. If there is such an app pls pst. If not, I'd like to help in the dev of such an app. Basicly, whenever the phone sees any audio bt device it will start routing all audio to that device. And it should have a built in audio mixer to control the different programs' volume levels separately.
Let me know what you think
Thanks.

As a bike commuter this feature would be great. I typically listen to streams and podcasts where fidelity is not priority one. I use a cheap pair of corded headphones where I chop one ear bud off so that I can keep my left ear, traffic side, open. It would be sweet to have the ability to make/take calls on my commute and listen to audio as well. I know that there are BT earpieces that are a2dp, but should I really have to drop another 40 clams to get one, hells no this is android we get what we want right? That said I would develop a prog to do this but it will take me 6 mos as I have no background. So, to kind devs, myself and several others that I have seen scouring for this sol'n would gladly help test and pay for this functionality.
I have been looking also. Have not found anything to even mention. I used to have it on my old MinMo phone, but that's the ONLY damn thing I miss about it. Anyone have a recomendation.
theres a bunch of cheap A2DP headsets at dealextreme.com just do a search for a2dp
But I do mean cheap dont expect miracles for sound quality or battery life . . . but did I mention cheap?
We're not trying to solve our problems by purchasing MORE hardware, we're trying to make do with what we have and find new uses for old stuff. We want to send ALL the audio from the device to a mono NON a2dp earpiece. It can't honestly be that hard, Please devs. And don't forget your donate buttons.

This is not working for me, and I have 3.0. Doubt that 4.0 is working on the G1.
Hello!
Sorry to up this "old" topic, but I'm a biker too and i have a scala rider Q2 bluetooth device. This device does not support the bluetooth A2AP x-(
The phone calls trough bluetooth is ok but no music or GPS....
I found a solution : Bluetooth Audio Widget (i could not post the link but you can find it on the android market)
This Widget/application route all the sounds from your device to the bluethoot headphones!
@++
I have been using "Super BT Mono Pro" on my T-Mobile G2. It is working better than a few of the other apps that I have tried. It is also available on the Market.
http://www.androidzoom.com/android_developer/sinwidget_itzo.html
How do you like that Q2? Does it work well on FM, or is its radio coverage spotty like the other units? I still think they have awesome audio when you are talking to someone. I gave up the Scala Rider FM for a Parrot SK4000.

[Q] remote control music on jack 3.5 wire

Hi,
I see the optimus 2X has the capability to use remote commands on the 3.5jack earphone cable (1 buton available on retail product to end call I think).
I want to know if there is any product like nokia's to control the music play via a small remote on the 3.5 jack ?
Like this :
http://cgi.ebay.fr/3-5mm-Stereo-Ear...717437?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item19c3f3cdbd
or this :
http://cgi.ebay.fr/Handsfree-Headse...218750?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item56435ae8be
Thanks
up
I would also like to know. If anyone had a nokia/apple/htc phone before and still has the headphones, please plug them into your 2x and see if the music controls work. Please?
Well I have a HTC Hero and a pair of skullcandy earphones with a limited set of in-line controls. The earphones can control volume (not within the phone itself though) and it has a play/pause button. The ROM I used with my Hero also let me skip tracks by hitting the play/pause button twice very fast. I should receive my LG Optimus X2 tomorrow and will try it out then and post back my results.
Edit:
Well tried them out with no luck - the play/pause button would not work at all.
I tried on my lg with my old nokia earphones (this one http://cgi.ebay.fr/3-5mm-Stereo-Ear...717437?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item19c3f3cdbd) but it donesn't work at all.
Maybe we could write a program to catch the i/o interrupts the headphone generates ?
And btw, the sound is crap behind the remote. SO I guess the phone has to know we use a remote to change the electrical output to make it working correctly?
Experienced the same trying the nokia remote-earphones from my old N82.
In-Line-Controls didn´t work at all and the sound was very bad, almost completely missing the bass and noisy.
Seems indeed either these Nokia-Pieces are somehow incompatible or the controls take some of the electric output away if the phone isn´t aware of them.
there are two types of TRRS pinouts thanks to Apple
Nokia type (10 years old) ->
Left-Right-Mic-Ground
Apple type (since 2007) ->
Left-Right-Ground-Mic
Who knows why Apple did this... they've basically split the industry. My Nexus One is Apple type, so I guess the real question now is if anyone knows to what extent HTC's (or Apple's) headphones work, especially the more recent headphones packaged with Desire/DesireHD/NexusOne/G2
So I think that would mean newer HTC's are probably all Apple type. I think the original Moto Droid is nokia type. It's kind of a cluster-f***
Also note that HTC HERO uses RC-E150 headphones while newer HTC headphones are model RC-E160. However, I have seen the RC-e150 sold as Nexus One compatible, so they are probably the same pinout.
If the LG 2X is Apple type, those skullcandy headphones will probably work.

I think it is apple type. however stock ROM does not support all of the commands the iphone does. so far i can use the following commands:
play/pause (oneClick)
next (doubleClick)
don't know about volume control.
i tried installing a different media player. bTunes does support previous (triple click) but it's buggy. so is next on the stock media player. i think it has to do with quality of the in-the-box-headphones. i will try to see if i have my old apple buds and check what those do.
@tonyschuite
Hi,
What earphones do you use ?
@bradsh1
Thanks for the infos
I'd be curious to know if Hero/Nexus One headphones work with forward/back track buttons.

So it's more a software issue ?
I tried plug my o2x headphones on my nokia 5800, and it recognize it as an tv output cable. So yeah, the wire connections are reversed somewhere.
You think these king of earphones would work ?

PLEASE Every person that say "this or this works with my remote bla bla" PLEASE GIVE MODEL NUMBER / MANUFACTURER AND PICTURE !!
To these people with working headphones controls: could you please test, if another music player app can recieve more then one button? For example try Poweramp. (You can get a 2 weeks trial at the market.)
But take in mind: Poweramp stats that music controls listening must be disabled in other music Apps. So be sure to disable it in the stock or, if there is no option to do so, just disable it with Titanium.
Works perfectily in poweramp both with original headphones and creative 630i
Will check with multibutton remote

Please tell me which headphone set are you talking about when you say "original headphone" ? The one included with p990 bundle ?
What do you mean by "works perfectly" ? Play / pause ? Volume ? Next track, previous track ?
Etc.

Abysmal Bluetooth audioquality of headphones on the mi9 lite

Hey,
I switched from the Redmi Note 4 Global to the Mi 9 lite and everything about the phone is pretty great, except the audio quality over headphones.
I am a bit shocked how terrible it is in comparison. I used my QCY T1 and the Redmi Airdots - both bluetooth - to compare and an older cable bound pair of bose truesound inears.
Issue 1:
The software equalizer just doesnt work on the mi 9 lite. You can use the dials in any music-player app without anything changing actually in the sound. I tried phonograph and poweraudio pro. When I activate the software equalizer on the RN4 the difference is instantly recognizable and I do mean instant. Everyone would notice the sound changing. On the Mi 9 lite nothing changes when I change preset, bass, surround value or even the the actual frequency values.
Issue: 2:
The sound is really low on bass and there is an ever-present hissing on higher frequencies. The whole thing sounds muddy and poor on details.
How did no one notice this of all of those reviewers? The phone is basically DOA if you use your phone listen to music in any way. It basically sounds like terrible nokia headphones they added to the phone from 2003. I cant overstate enough how terrible the sound is.
Please help me understand. This should only be a DAC issue for the cable-bound headphones (the bose ones), right? Bluetooth doesnt actually change from digital to analog, does it? So is this just a question of fixing the bug that the equalizer doesnt work?

How did no one notice this of all of those reviewers? The phone is basically DOA if you use your phone listen to music in any way. It basically sounds like terrible nokia headphones they added to the phone from 2003. I cant overstate enough how terrible the sound is.
Please help me understand. This should only be a DAC issue for the cable-bound headphones (the bose ones), right? Bluetooth doesnt actually change from digital to analog, does it? So is this just a question of fixing the bug that the equalizer doesnt work?

The sound is incredibly good here on both wired and wireless headphones.

I'm thinking of buying this phone and audio quality is important to me. Could you tell us which wired and wireless headphones have you tried?

Hey,
I switched from the Redmi Note 4 Global to the Mi 9 lite and everything about the phone is pretty great, except the audio quality over headphones.
I am a bit shocked how terrible it is in comparison. I used my QCY T1 and the Redmi Airdots - both bluetooth - to compare and an older cable bound pair of bose truesound inears.
Issue 1:
The software equalizer just doesnt work on the mi 9 lite.

This isn't good. Audio should be fine with good headphones without equalizer, unless your headphones require an amp. In any event, have you tried eqfy from the play store?
Have same problems. Is problem in miui?
No problems over here tho. I upgraded from a Redmi Note 4x as well but kinda forced since a very damaged screen. No problems with wired Xiaomi Mi in Ear Pro, Haylou GT1 and Audio Technica ATH-ANC700BT.
Well I did have a problem with settings since Bluetooth would become Choppy/stuttery. To fix that I had to turn off battery optimization for Spotify, YouTube and Music. Music quality seems to be decent but I can't remember stock Redmi Note 4 sounds cause Viper4Android was very sweet.
Okay, here's what I came up with after a few days of more testing:
The core issue is that the eq that comes with mp3-player apps doesnt seem to work - the dials for bass boost and surround sound are without any actual effect.
I rarely use spotify because I am oldschool and still use mp3's - so I cant say if the EQ works for spotify.
First I tried changing my country to USA and rebooted the phone and audio got way louder immediately. My Redmi 4 didnt have this BS.
Next I tried EQ-apps like "bass booster", "Equalizer FX" and one simply called "Equalizer". That kind of does the job, but is also only partially working. All of these apps come with a notification addition that give you easy access to their function. Most of them got an on/off switch there. Switching this on/off immediately makes the sound better and actually useable. BUT every other function of all of these app doesnt work. Dialing bass - doesnt work. Dialing surround - doesnt work. Selecting a reverb option like "small room" - doesnt work. Selecting a different EQ preset e.g. "Rock" doesnt change the sound one bit. Sliding the actual frequency bars up and down also doesnt work.
Also there doesnt seem to be a way to only use these apps when using bluetooth or any headphones at all. This means it ****s with the sound of the speakers. Well, who uses his speakers, you probably say now. Yeah, but it also disfigures ring tones and notification sounds. :/
Still, to emphasize again sound is better over headphones using one of these, though I dont know how exactly this works if all the dials are without an effect.
This leads me to the conclusion that the firmware of the Mi 9 Lite has a bug with its soundchip, probably in the way it can accept inputs or parameters.

This is 2,99 bucks here. Is it free anywhere? Does someone own this one and can test it? Its advertized as using 10 bands - whatever this means....

Well please dont say there is no problem. Try to actually use the EQ and tell me that changing the bass or surround levels does something noticable.

I had the exact same MIUI version on my redmi4 and it worked there. The only difference is the redmi had android7 and the mi 9 lite uses android 8. But I cant imagine the android version being at fault here, because then it would effect way more different phones?

Eqfy works for me but I'm on Android One with mi a3. Bass boost and surround and equalizer work. It has ten bands versus five bands that most equalizer apps have. It can automatically switch to a preset when you connect blue tooth or wired or disconnect. I listen to podcasts on speaker so I use it there too.
The downside is the UI is complicated and confusing and there are lots of settings in preferences and it takes a while to figure out. Because of the ten bands you pretty much have to use landscape and it's a full screen app so switching to it and switching back to another app is awkward.
You can try it and if it doesn't work get an easy refund right away within 2 hours. Beyond 2 hours you have to contact Google store and request a refund within 48 hours. Good luck

I was about to try that but then read by chance that the player Poweramp also has an integrated 10 band eq. I tried that one, it seems to work fully and do what I actually want from an integrated eq. Endless options and changing levels and turning dials does something. It even has a button linking to the android build-in eq menu and activating that one there / changing stuff suddenly works as well. Has me kind of puzzled? Maybe they changed the way in Android 8 how apps have to access the build in EQ and most player apps are not configured properly yet to use it fully?
Downside to Poweramp is that it says limited trial and the full app costs 4,99€ - I guess I will just spent that cash and be done with this problem once it locks me out.

That's good to know. With a working eq is the quality acceptable now? Comparable to your other devices? Have you tried on wired headphones?
Advantage of eqfy is it works with other apps -- Spotify, Google music, YouTube, etc. It's up to you.
