Hi,
Hope you can help me.
Situation:
In the past i had the octamod rom on the watch, but i wanna go back to stock.
Recovery...and stock update on Version 4.4W.1 but after the restart of the watch --> message "Install android wear on your phone"
I did it several times..restart phone and different ways...also the watch....but the watch can't be found on my android wear on nexus 5!
And yes..bluetooth and sw is the right version...
So what can i do?
I tried to put on the octamod again, adbd drivers works so well, but
"adb devices" respond me this message: R3AF601B1HW unauthorized
And so it*s not possible to do anything with adb.
Who can help me in this case?

I have similar the same situation.Same phone too. However my adb is working fine. I have been able to flash Octamod again.
As for the watch not showing on the phone after using the restore tool, I have not been able to find a fix as of yet.....
It's Octamod or nothing as of now.
I was also on octamod but was finally able to get updated to KGW42N and paired with the watch. This is what I did.
In case you didn't know you can get into recovery/fastboot by holding down power until the Gear Live logo shows. Keep holding power and keep swiping from top left to bottom right.
I was running octamod but wanted to update to KGW42N. I tried V3 of the restore tool below (options 4, 5, then 6) which installed stock KGW42N but then couldn't pair.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-live/development/utility-gear-live-watch-tool-t2846696
Then I tried:
- Restored KMV78Y TWRP backup
- Reset watch
- Wiped Android Wear on phone
- Rebooted phone
- Paired watch
- Couldn't flash downloaded KGW42N OTA zip w/ TWRP:
set_metadata: some changes failed
error executing updater binary zip
- I then remembered that there was a V2 of the restore tool linked above so then I used that (options 4, 5, then 6). This flashed KMV78Y but wasn't a fresh install for some reason (no setup).
- After a minute or two I got a system update prompt which updated successfully
- Watch remained paired since I had re-paired it above
- Reflashed TWRP

I did it your way.
Used the V2 of this tool (options 4, 5, then 6) and finally it was possible to update on 4.4W.1.

Using V2 of the restore tool fixed my issue.
I just did option 6...

How does one get by the Unauthorized issue? I cant do anything with V2 of the restore tool. Yes, I did V3 1st, oops. Thoughts and help? Not following the above. Trying to do a recovery on the watch now and it seems to be stuck.
Thanks in advance.
Bill
UPDATE: I forced the V2 of the restore tool. It took and I am now receiving updates. I am currently at software version 5.0.2. Build LWX49K. It is currently downloading another update. I hope my issues are now cleared up. I had received the watch with a developers build. Received a partial refund, and decided to work with the recovery tool. It has taken some time, but I think I'm good to go!

I screwed up and use V3 and now I have no bluetooth and my Gear Live shows up as unauthorized so I cannot run V2 and do a complete restore.
I am a novice at this stuff, help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Has their been any update to this? I have the same issue as Bill. I used version 3 and now can not get the watch to show up and anything but "Unauthorized" it can't connect to the Gear App. Any advice would be great

Okay, so here's the deal.
I have an AT&T HTC One that was running 4.4 Kit Kat (Click: this ROM) and is S-OFF via RumRunner. I am running the latest TWRP recovery.
Yesterday I got prompted for an OTA and accepted it (in the past, with GPE ROMs, it would just reboot to recovery and do nothing). This is the only way I know of to get rid of the annoying "System update available" notification. I figured it wouldn't do anything and I would simply reboot and be good for a few more days until it prompted again. Low and behold, it actually updated my phone to 4.4.2.
Now, I'm having some issues.
I was a user of DashClock Widget...but now I use Better DashClock. However, this app is now prompting me to download a key. When I try to download the key from the Play Store, I get the message:
Error: Couldn't install on USB storage or SD Card.
SwiftKey Keyboard has the same issue.
Other apps (such as ES File Explorer, ESPN, Fandango, etc. update just fine).
-------------
I have read a bunch of posts that suggest cleaning up temp files (which don't exist on my phone) and to download SELinux Mode Changer and change the mode to Passive...but to no avail.
Can someone help me? Is this the developers issue or did my phone do something wonky?
Thanks!
Exactly the same problem here. I've narrowed it down to paid apps that won't install. Followed the same possible solutions in the 1st post, nothing works. HTC One GE 4.4.2.

I had a similar problem. I downloaded the 4.4.2 OTA update and tried flashing it with TWRP three different times. All three times I got that same error message with some apps. It was extremely frustrating. I ended up flashing the stock 4.4 recovery and then flashing the update. It worked perfectly and the problem went away. I then reflashed TWRP.

I had a similar experience. Paid apps would not install from Play Store. Amazon app store or F-Droid apps would install.
But my journey was that I had a 4.4 GPE device suffering through an issue where I can't get my bootloader to unlock. So when 4.4.2 came out I wasn't getting the OTA so I tried flashing just the firmware package from the OTA download. That's when I was getting this error (after a factory reset).
But then next day I got the real OTA and after that the problem went away. So for me it was a firmware issue in that it wasn't the right firmware for my OS.
Weird that you are running 4.4.2 but having this issue. Any chance you didn't come to have 4.4.2 the "natural" way?

Yeah...my process was as natural as possible.
I was on 4.3 at first...so when I was going to 4.4 KitKat I first flashed back to some basic stock Sense ROM to run RumRunner and attain S-OFF. Then I COMPLETELY NUKED my phone and went to 4.4 KitKat. Had no problems, got the OTA, and now this.
It's aggravating, that's for sure.
I really don't want to completely wipe my phone again and have to re-setup all of my home screens, etc.
I received the OTA which installed despite me having TWRP, not stock recovery (as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48586329). Now I have the same issue installing paid apps (the ones I had already installed before the OTA disappeared off the device).
Short of starting from scratch, I'm at a bit of a loss for a solution...
Nick
Sounds like this is wide-spread...or at least amongst the people who are running newer GPE ROMs on their Ones.
im having the exact same issues here

Fixed
It looks like this is all to do with custom recovery and OTA updates. I have TWRP installed. This morning I flashed stock recovery. I then put the OTA update file on the phone storage. Then booted into the stock recovery (which is the first time I've seen it, it would be nice if it was the last as it's tricky to get into), then flashed the 4.2.2. update from there. Once I booted the phone again all my paid apps reappeared. No data lost in the process. I'm not sure if going back to TWRP not will cause the problem again, so for now I'll stick with stock recovery....

Also, you left 4.4.2 on the device and just 're-applied' the OTA update? Or did you go back to a NANDROID backup of you on 4.4 or 4.3?

Yeah, that's about it. I used adb to flash the stock recovery to replace TWRP, then used the stock recovery to flash the same update you linked to. After it was done updating I reflashed TWRP. And don't forget to make a nandroid.
Thank you! Will report back when I'm done!
What is the fastboot command to flash the OTA zip file?
I'm back on the stock recovery...phone is still booting/working so I just need to do the OTA part now.

What if you don't have an "apply from adb" option?
I have:
- reboot system now
- apply from sd card
- apply from phone storage
- apply from cache
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
Can't I just open a ADB shell while on the fastboot USB option?

If you installed SU, it could be possible that your /system/bin/app_process32 and /system/bin/install-recovery.sh have been replaced, the originals should still be on your system as /system/bin/app_process32_original and /system/bin/install-recovery_original.sh, just move them back and the update should work.

OK, I'm a little confused. I got the Android Wear 1.3 update to my phone yesterday. However when I check the version number on the watch it says Android wear 1.1.1 I just did a factory reset on the watch and checked and I still have the same 1.1.1 version. Does it take some time to transfer over to the watch?
For what its worth, I can't get the new style interactive watch faces to work. This is understandable since the watch is not using the newest version.

The update that you installed is for android wear app, not for the watch.
Deleted for stupidity.
I got my update OTA yesterday - seems to have survived the ordeal.
Argh
I was up until 3 am trying to get my Urbane back to an unrooted, unmodified state (with the exception of OEM unlock). Using the mv command, I replaced the 2 modified files in /system/bin with their originals, and no matter what I do, the 1.3 update won't take. It starts to sideload, but then craps out during the installation, with a message that flashes by briefly that basically states that an error took place. I have checked and rechecked the firmware package (even redownloading it multiple times), but the same thing happens. I believe my device is not truly unrooted, and that there are system files from SuperSU that are preventing this from installing successfully.
Is there a foolproof way to return this watch to stock, wiping out root, and allowing the 1.3 update to take? I am at a loss here. I have tried the TWRP backup/restore as well, and the same thing happens.
Thanks in advance.
If anyone can take a TWRP backup AFTER updating to 1.3 and post it, I am sure it would help me and many others. Thanks in advance.
Could you produce a step by step of the file name change? (mv command)
Thanks in advance
I went to check for system updates today and my pixel initially started to download the latest patch and then after a couple of seconds went straight to telling me that there is no update available. Anyone else have this issue and/or successfully update to the March 2020 OTA via the process below?
Updating Phone Once Rooted:
- Check for device updates, when found:
- Tap uninstall in 'Magisk Manager'
- Tap restore images
- install OTA (do not reboot)
- Back to magisk, tap install > select install to inactive slot
- When magisk installed, press the reboot button in it. It'll force to the other slot AND you'll be updated AND rooted
I assume I should be able to go under 'System' -> 'Advanced' and get the OTA under 'System Update'. I've already disabled 'Automatic system updates' under 'Developer Options'. Just making sure google is somehow not blocking the update on rooted devices and that the above steps are correct. Thank you in advance!
Found similar thing on reddit here.
It's very common for unlocked and rooted Pixel phones to not "find" or complete the monthly OTA updates. There must be some sort of check in the OTA process that fails on rooted phones.
You should get familiar with the "sideloading" process of manually flashing OTA images.
Here is a set of instructions that I wrote in my Pixel 3a rooting guide. The process is exactly the same for the Pixel 4 series.
Taking an OTA update should be as easy as the above instructions. However there is another option available to install an OTA update called sideloading. Sometimes the update doesn't appear on the phone in a timely manner and you may want to manually install the update. Other times the OTA update seems to fail for some reason. In the end, you may decide to sideload the OTA instead of trying get it via the update feature on the phone. Surprisingly, it's actually faster to install the update via sideloading than it will be to take the OTA normally. I'll walk through the sideloading steps.....
Optional Step 1 - Uninstall Magisk (so that it restores the stock boot.img). If you find yourself unable to boot into recovery, you will have to restore the stock boot.img. I've run into this issue on some Android 10 images, but not all.
Step 2 - Download to your computer the correct OTA image from here
Step 3 - Connect to your phone via ADB on your computer. You should see the device listed if you type the command "adb devices".
Step 4 - Boot your phone into recovery (type the command "adb reboot recovery").
Step 5 - The phone will have a green android robot with a red sign over it's open access panel. Press the power button and then the volume up button while still holding down the power button.
Step 6 - Select "Apply update from ADB" using the volume buttons to highlight the choice and the power button to select it to enter the sideload mode.
Step 7 - Using your computer, type "adb sideload ota_file.zip" where ota_file.zip is the name of the OTA file you downloaded in step 2.
Step 8 - Once the update finishes, reboot the phone to complete the update process. (See note below about initial boot times).
Step 9 - To obtain root again, please use one of the two root methods listed above
Please note, the initial boot may take quite a while. I've seen the process take upwards of 20 minutes and longer. I think part of the reason it can take so long is that it optimizes the apps during this boot process. The more apps you have, the longer the process may take. When you take a regular OTA update, the phone will change to a screen where is specifically tells you it is optimizing the apps and counts up as the apps are optimized to give you status updates. When you use the the side-load method, it all happens with just the regular boot animation running and without any status updates. Because of this, it is easy to assume something has gone wrong with the boot process while in fact the phone is working through the process normally. If it isn't boot looping (showing the initial power screen before moving back to the boot animation), everything is fine and you just be patient and let the phone complete the process.

Thanks for the reply! I'm very used to sideloading/dirty flashing the updates, was hoping to use the Magisk method . Seems like google is getting smarter with their updates. I am guessing the current inability to see the OTA is due to the updates with google pay and google wanting to ensure banks it is safe.
I just finished sideloading March's OTA and patching the boot.img and everything seems to work, just a bit more effort than leveraging Magisk.
I had something funny happen. I was rooted in the January update. I just decided to check for updates. It always shows there's an update but always fails to download it. This time it downloaded and installed it. All the way to the March update. This unrooted me. I still had Magisk and all my modules but it was disabled.
I've tried the usual methods to reroot it. I downloaded the March update. Extracted the boot image. Patched it in Magisk. Put it on my PC and flashed it. The phone restarted and displayed the Google start up screen and a waiting bar like it was optimizing apps. But when that was done it went to a black screen and never left it. I put the phone down and came back to it over an hour later and it was still black. I had to reflash the stock OTA update.
Anyone know why that happened?
I experienced same exact thing. Looks like it saw the update at first then after a few seconds reverted to No updates available. About to try uninstalling Magisk, if no bueno, then gonna just sideload.

Did you disable 'Automatic system updates' on the phone? That should still allow the download to occur just not the install. It seems like google got smarter with this update to detect rooted phones.

Yes I disabled automatic updates. It didn't do it automatically, I clicked the check for update button. Normally when I do that it says there's a download available and then I know to check online for the flash file. This time it updated without stopping.

I would flash Magisk again before you restart.
I still can't get my phone rooted. I'm not sure what's going on. I wonder if other people have been able to successfully root the March update.
I successfully rooted the March update, using the boot.img method.

I got it rooted. It ended up taking a factory reset. It must have been some file interfering with the process. Once I reset my phone the rooting process went without incident.
As I'm searching for a more Phone based update wy, I'm thinking about to use maybe the Implemented OTA Process, but download the OTA-File manually... But for that We must know, how the OTA process is working. Did someone know:
- Where the update stores the download fine (I found a OTA and a OTA_Packge directory in the /Data/ folder)
- is there maybe a setting or information which must be injected somewhere (maybe a txt file)
- after that the ota update could then maybe started by hand
Has someone informations on that? If maybe someone where the ota still works and stil has root could check the files and places?

I unlocked the bootloader, sideloaded the August 2020 OTA and flashed the patched boot image. Kept bootlooping, then I restored to the original, booted in, installed Magisk Manager and then flashed the patched image again. Just leaving this here in case it helps someone.
Updating from an update fileI have been seeing a lot of posts about people not receiving the OTA on their phone, and got tired of linking my instructions, so I decided to make a separate post
Download the version that you need from the Asus Zenfone 8 Support page (Note that if you are not on the latest Android 11 firmware (30.12.112.72), you will not be able to Android 12. So you need to do these steps with the latest Android 11, and then re-do them for the Android 12 firmware)
Plug in your phone to your computer, make sure the computer is trusted and that you can transfer files from the PC to the phone.
Move the zip file of the update in the base directory of the phone (The same directory as Alarms, Downloads, etc).
Wait for the transfer to finish, then you can unplug your phone if you want.
Reboot the phone
After the reboot, the phone will take a few seconds/minutes and will notify you that an update file was found, select the option to update the phone
It will then extract the update and install it all by itself, the normal update procedure starts from there
not work for me :/
I've spent a couple of hours yesterday to get this thing working. Basically, the Android 12 update will only update from specific image. I will try to describe the whole process below.
You have to do this process to upgrade all the way up to 30.12.112.7. If you have anything else, it won't work.
First, I've reverted back to stock, using
WW-ZS590KS-31.0803.0403.54-user_20210831-release.zip
... which contains the full flash scripts.
In my case, I had to do these delta upgrades manually (so copying the zip to root of sdcard memory).
UL-I006D-ASUS-30.12.112.56-1.1.31-user.zip
UL-I006D-ASUS-30.12.112.62-1.1.31-user.zip
UL-I006D-ASUS-30.12.112.72-1.1.31-user.zip
UL-I006D-ASUS-31.1004.0404.81-1.1.25-2111-user.zip
Number 4 is actual android 12 update. Hope this helps anyone.

I think that what is needed is to update to the latest firmware, then Android 12. So if you are already on Android 11, but not latest firmware, install it with the instructions, then do the same to update to Android 12's latest version.

What part does not work? Please be more specific and also, you should re-read the steps more carefully, in case you missed something
The android version I currently have is 30.12.112.72
I downloaded version 31.1004.0404.81 from the asus site to have android 12 on my zenfone 8.
I copied the folder without extracting it and put it in my phone's internal storage next to the other folders.
Once the copy was finished I restarted my phone so that it offered me the update but it did not offer it to me.
I do not understand why .

It also depends what prefix your installation has. See the first letters
UL-...
If you are from some other region, it could be that UL- is not a fitting upgrade option for you. As far as I can tell, it's not possible to tell which of the versions you have.
I give you the build number which is marked in the software information:
RKQ1.2021022.002.30.12.112.72
I have the right version or not suddenly?
Thank you for the quick tutorial. I was doing this via fastboot till now.
However: I upgraded to the latest firmware BEFORE Android 12. No issues.
Then I upgraded to the Android 12 firmware: stuck. Gave me some kind of ram dump, reboot returned me to the same error: bootloop. I was able to reboot and get to the bootloader. After selecting "recovery" it actually booted Android. And now for the weird part: it looks like I have a mix of Android 11 and Android 12 now! The phone is all but unusable for how slow it is. But the main UI looks like Android 11 still, but things like the reboot screen now look like Android 12. Bizarre...
I was at least able to enable ADB debug again, so I think I will be able to recover the phone. Still a weird issue though. Don't know if flashing with fastboot would have prevented it...
If anything fails, you can always try the Asus flash script it will solve most of the issues with your phone, just note that it installs Android 11 (30.11.51.115)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/full-recover-to-stock-if-things-went-really-bad.4337467/
EDIT: nvm, I saw your other reply, you alreay tried that. Were you able to get it working again?
Going from WW-30.12.112.82 to WW-31.1004.0404.107 worked flawlessly, i did not lose settings or data on that upgrade (but I want to stress that a good backup is STILL a very good thing to have!) It then started downloading the 31.1010.0410.43 upgrade on its own. (shown in the ui as SKQ1.210821.001.31.1010.0410.43)
Why didn't I upgrade to the latest one myself? Simple: I goofed up and downloaded the older one.
change the name in UL-ASUS_I006D-ASUS-99.1004.0404.82-1.1.31-9999-user.zip
Hi, has anyone tried to upgrade a firmware that has Magisk and TWRP installed? Today Android 13 has been released for the Zenfone 8, but I wouldn't really like to do something really dumb such as upgrading, rebooting to recovery to reinstall Magisk only to discover that TWRP has been replaced by the stock recovery and the phone completely erases any data it has stored.
You can update by putting the fw in sdcard folder, while keeping magisk (you need to restore images before updating and reinstalling magisk in the inactive slot after updating, then reboot). Otherwise, you can just update through system or through twrp, and after that, boot/flash twrp and install magisk again. In both ways you won't lose any data

Thank you! As this is my first phone with A/B slots, I wasn't completely sure about how to proceed. I'll follow your instructions! The only thing I don't get is where is TWRP stored and why it won't be overwritten by the update.
EDIT: installed successfully, thanks!
Last night I did the system update and left it overnight. This morning the update wasn't installed and asked me to update again. So I started it again 3 hours ago and it's still not done. Anyone else's update taking this long?
Update: I attempted the system update again and left it overnight. This morning it's still stuck on the same installing screen.
Can someone share the Android Version screen of an unlocked Pixel 7. I think I might be updated and the update is just a bug?
Update: I determined I had an OTA update failure. So I just adb sideloaded the OTA file and it's fixed now.

I saw your previous post about wifi not staying on. So if that happening while dl. It my screw it. Because it's jumping back to network data and the setting maybe set to only update over wifi.

It's set to mobile data and that should only impact the downloading not installing. 4 hours now and still stuck. I'm considering rebooting at this point.
I had the same problem, i rebooted and it all seems gone. But I checked the factory images and everything is up to date.

That didn't work. I'm back at the same screen as before after hitting restart now. I also noticed that Google play system update is on July.

Here is the ver I'm on. I see you still are on the factory version. Not the Oct update. By chance. Did your carrier give you a new sim card with your phone? Telus have me a new sim card when I bought the phone.

Thanks! I determined I had an OTA
update failure. So I just adb sideloaded the OTA file and it's fixed now.
So I'm having the same issue, but potentially for a different reason.
I'm rooted. Typically to resolve this issue, you
1 - select Uninstall Magisk/Restore Image. This restores your stock boot image
2 - Install OTA update
3 - You then install Magisk again once the update completes and select "flash to inactive slot" prior to reboot.
The Uninstall/image restore in Magisk is not removing Magisk and the update still fails.
I'm wondering if it is restoring the boot.img, when it is the initboot.img that has been modified.
I could be wrong, just thought I'd note my issue.
