Rooted Captivate and Official 2.2

Hi, I currently have a rooted Captivate and I'm running stock firmware on my phone. I have several questions if some could help me out that would be great.
Is it is possible to get the official Froyo update if your phone is rooted?
Also if it isn't possible, if I do a factory reset will it unroot my phone?
My friend was the who rooted my phone for me and I don't recall what he used to root it. So IF I can't get the update while rooted and doing a factory reset doesn't remove the root, how can I unroot my phone and do I need to know the specific way my friend rooted it?
I dont think, root with do anything against upgrading your phone using Keis mini....formatting or deleting any chache wont unroot your phone...
but to be on safer side
Use this to unroot...just put ur phone on debugging by going to settings>>applications>>development>>uSB debugging on
click on the link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739304
download the software as per ur computer (Mac or Windows) Extract it...an plug the phone with computer...and just click unroot...it will do the rest...
i tested with one of my captivates when 2.2 was released.
i rooted and unlocked the phone
then i updated to 2.2 through kies
no problems at all

Will unrooting also remove the custom Clockwork Recovery? If not, does anyone know how to remove it? Thanks!

What do you mean by unlock 2.2? Like a custom Rom?

When you unroot you should not have the option to go into cwr, seeing how you need root permissions to do so.

no. Clockworkrecovery is simply an update.zip on your sdcard and does NOT require root at all, just reboot to recovery and reinstall packages....that will boot you into clockwork

absolutely. clockwork recovery is done without being in the OS....so it does NOT require root access
when you install rom manager on a samsung galaxy s phone, and click on the flash clockwork mod, it puts the update.zip file on the sdcard. once you reboot to regular recovery (3 button), just click reinstall packages, it will reboot back into stock recovery. click reinstall packages again and it will kick you right into clockwork recovery.....has nothing to do with root

but if that is the case then why does my phone always boot into clockwork recovery, even after deleting update.zip? i did flashed it exactly as you said - that option in rom manager and then two times from the stock recovery. but now i can't seem to get rid of it any more.
though i have read that it is included in some kernels? and i did flash serendipity, could that be the reason that i can't get into stock recovery?

thats exactly why...its included with the custom kernel you are running....
and here i thought recovery was part of the bootloader and something that does not (usually) get replaced. if you could explain how these things are separated (i have my theories but i'd love to know how it actually works ) that would be great, otherwise i'm simply relieved that i am still able to have my phone repaired on warranty if i ever have to

s5570I Pop plus - Unroot and removing CWM

I rooted my phone and installed CWM.
However rooting and installing roms are not for me. So I want to go back to my warranty.
How can I unroot and remove CWM and go back to my warranty, I still have 21 months of warranty period and I dont want to burn it
I found how to unroot, installing unroot file and setuping it like rooting but how to remove CWM.
Thx a lot
Taha
if you have a stock rom then flash it with Odin
else for unrooting first remove superuser app then busybox and sqlite3 then su and you will be unrooted
for going to stock recovery you will need its img and have to flash with odin
weird thing I only had superuser. after putting unroot.zip into my sdcard.
I turn off my device and go to the recovery - tadaaa CWM is gone.
What can cause this?
How I install CWM? Put the cwm into sd card and installed it via recovery menu.
Thx a lot

I found this file in this forum and looks like it did the job. I check with root checker and it says I'm not rooted.
But I'm confused about CWM. How it deleted itself. It deleted itself before unrooting process.
I don't have the answer
I guess flashing a stock firmware gives you the stock recovery. So its obvious that you'll lose CWM.

Google Search it. Go to your phone's settings>about>baseband version. Then Google search the baseband version and look for a download or a guide. Afterwards download the file and flash it with Odin.
EDIT:
Here's the link to the thread which has a list of firmwares, custom roms, kernels, etc. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1443907

If you want to a do a full unroot, just flash a FTF and exclude everything except system, also clear all the ticks in the wipe options.
