I made a backup with all my settings, messages and contacts.
Then I made factory reset and flashed a clean rom using Update Service.
When I restored my data everything except contacts is back... when I click on contacts they are there but they disappear instantly ! only remains about 15 contacts or something and the rest are gone
I made the same procedure several times and the same happens
In your contacts go to settings and filter.
You can ensure you are note excluding a certain group of contracts that way

didn't work, unfortunately
Is there a way to extract contacts from the dbk file ?

A while back after a rom or two always using Titanium backup a number of contacts disappeared. I had flashed a few rom and all contacts always saved the titanium. Then after another flash many were missing and would not or could not restore. Even downloading contact apps that revealed missing contacts did not show all I uses to have. I believe this was when I went from Fasty to either rc2.1 ics, cm7, or another gb rom. Any ideas?

I've found its more reliable to use google contacts and just sync after a flash. As for recovering the ones lost, probably no hope unless you made a Nandroid of the last ROM you remember having all of them.

That is another way to back up contacts. However, if that backup were not performed before flashing a wipe ROM, it goes back to not being able to recover lost contacts.
(true life story)
I once had flash party with other junkies like me. Suddenly, people got missing!!!
But, luckily, nobody noticed it and the party went on!
Hello, anyone else having the same problem as me and please help offer solutions.
My Contacts APPs keep FC most of the time when a call comes in. When this happens, usually I will not see the caller ID (only the number is displayed, not the names in my contact list). Sometimes the phone just hang and reboot and I believe the Contact is messing up the phone. Call logs will not show until the Contact apps run again after a few mins.
I saw post somewhere that this happens when contact list gets big and I follow the instruction to completely clear my contacts and restore them. But this does not help.
Phone is not having problem when I was in GB rom (2.3.5 and 2.3.6) and problem exist after upgrade to ICS. I tried 2 different ICS rom from different region (4.0.3), the same happens. Recently upgraded to 4.04. Problem remains.
I even downgrade back to GB. Clear cache, factory reset. Restore to ICS 4.0.4. I use Titanium to restore all apps and phone data. Problems still there.
I reflash the above again, this time only restore the apps and not phone data. This doesn't help.
Am at a lost what to do now? Everything runs fine except the Contact.

This is more of a workaround than a fix...
I've had this issue with contacts and then usually dialler gets problems. How are you adding your contacts, from a Google account? If so, try clearing the data and cache on both the contacts app and contacts storage app, then re sync your contacts, let me know if it helps.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I've tried your suggestions before but problem still exist. I'm using Samsung contact to do a backup/restore. I've tried before GO's contact and Superbackup. None solve the problem.
Currently, I just tried this method below to disable the Sync contact settings. Let's see if this will work.

There might be some permission error. If you are rooted then try extracting the contacts.apk, contacts.odex files from Stock ROM package and push it into system app folder. it might help. for a safer side you can also copy Phone.apk files along.
what happen when you upgrade your honeycomb to ics or jellybean on your 8.9? does all your existing apps get wipe and you have to reinstall it again? how about personal data such as contacts, calenders etc.?
Depends if its an official OTA or not. If it is then all ur apps and everything stays there unchanged. If u install a custom rom like cyanogen then everything is lost.

well contacts and calendar data is not lost if you have them synced with your google account...they are in the cloud so after reinstalling and adding your account again they will sync up and be there like before!
You can opt to restore your apps / data with appextractor . Have a nandroid in the cwm recovery before u upgrade. In that way u can restore almost anything. I do not use tb, so cant tell. Method for email setup in the sig. This is similar for other restores as well.

I've just bought a developer edition and updated it to 4.4. I've now tried various restore programmes from past handsets and I seem to succeed in restoring my SMS data, but I can not see it with either Hangouts, Messages or Chomp SMS. Where has it gone?
Many thanks

If you're using SMS backup + it won't work because in Kit Kat for SMS backups to work the backup asp has to be able to be set as your default SMS app during the restore so that the messages can stay. Then when you are done restoring you it will set your default SMS so back. If you are using SMS backup + and your backs are on your gmail you would have to go back to 4.3 and restore then use SMS backup and restore to back up your messages onto your internal storage and then go back to 4.4 and use it to restore them.

Many thanks for the reply. I am using SMS Backup +, I'm also using Carbon/Helium. Neither works. So would I have to go back to 4.3 (How?) and then restore, before upgrading to 4.4 again? Sorry. I'm a bit of a simpleton. :silly:

Flash back to a 4.3 ROM and then restore using SMS backup + then download SMS back & restore from the play store and use it to back up your messages because it has 4.4 support but doesn't use gmail it backs up using .XML files.
After you have used it to back up the messages flash back to the 4.4 ROM and then use SMS backup & restore to restore the messages back.

If I've got another handset with all the sms on, can I do a backup from there and then a restore from my htc one?

Yeah I think you can just copy the .XML file to your HTC one storage and then restore it using the app I said.

Many thanks once again. Where would I find the .xml file?
When you back up the messages the app creates the XML file where you choose to back it up.

Many thanks once again. When I started talking about using the sms on another phone, I realised I could try using HTC's Transfer Tool, and it worked a treat.
I just got my Note 3 and I restored my SMS/MMS using Titanium. Currently there are duplicates of my previously sent messages in some threads that have the pending circle like they are trying to send. Has anyone else seen this happen before? Any advice on how to get rid of them without manually deleting them all?

Delete it and restore them using the snapshot..if that doesn't work try the XML
If you are still having problems try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore You can backup and restore and it will ask you if you want to delete duplicates. I always use this app when factory resetting or whatnot.

That is OK if you only what to restore text. It claims to back MMS but it doesn't or I must of done something wrong. So far I have used Kies to backup and restore. I haven't tried titanium back yet.
