Developer Unlock troubles - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Lumia 620 with Lumia Cyan + the latest developer preview update and I recently factory reset it. Today I tried developer unlocking it, and it came up with the "IpOverUsbSvc" error. I restarted my computer and got the same error, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and restarted, still same error. I uninstalled the lite 8.1 SDK (I'm on Windows 7), reinstalled it then rebooted, and still got the same error. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
edit: I searched already if you're just planning on saying that.

I seem to have the same issue on two other devices. Apparently you need files from the 8.1 Emulator Update 1 ISO. I have the Visual Studio 2013 with both Update 3 and the emulator update installed, but I too have the same error. Try running the 8.1 Power Tools update on your phone and see if it will actually give you an error code.

Thanks, probably had something to do with it being on update 1, but I managed to get it unlocked with that weird Chinese app mentioned in another thread.

[Q] Problems getting Focus S Dev unlocked

I used the "WindowsBreak" method (credit to jaxbot) and everything seems to work as expected; reboot the phone and try to deploy a XAP with the official app deployment tool from microsoft and no matter what I do, XAPs will not deploy. Is there another deployment solution out there I need to be using?

i was running Win 7 x64 and had to run the deployer in admin mode otherwise it would come up with that message.
give that a shot and see how you got on.
Just whilst your here, im curious, i will be getting a Focus S soon but ive been reading a lot of info saying that the 8107 update via zune should be avoided because it will stop the ability to dev and interop unlock samsung devices.
But ive not found a single post saying that anyone with a focus S has had issues, if you wouldnt mind, have you seen any issues or heard of anything?
I am running W7 x64 as well. Tried running deployment in admin; no bueno.
Try install this program for sideload xaps on to device. It works with x64 and x86.
Remember windows phone only allow to sideload 10 unsigned apps on device but if you have windowbreaked your device there are currently some ways to expand that to a higher number of apps.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=860964
Remember to apply xaps
- Make sure your device is connected with PC and Zune lauched in background
- Make sure your device not in sleep mode

[Q] Is there anyway to update Huawei Acend W1 -u34 To the latest update?

Just a quick question. I've been looking around the internet for this. I just recently recieved a Huawei Acend W1 from Wind Mobile (canada) and the phone is a U-34, and not the usual u00.
The latest I can normally update my phone is 8.0.10211.204, and I was wondering whether there was anyway to update this to it's latest and third update. Is this just a problem for Canada and huawei not supporting the updates? My only problem is that I'm not sure if I'll EVER get the update here, as tbh I don't mind waiting.
Thanks for all and any help,
Edit: I just found this post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51656759&postcount=28 and I'm thinking of trying it. Does anyone know if anyone has tried it?

you can try upgrade via Preview for Developers (preview for developers now upgrade to 8.1)
go to http://apps.windowsstore.com/default.htm and sign in with your Live (Microsoft) account which you use on phone. check mailbox on phone and install cert from mail you received from AppStudio
go to Store and install http://windowsphone.com/s?appId=178ac8a1-6519-4a0b-960c-038393741e96. Run after install and activate it.... go to settings - check for update
The problem with that is that my phone is currently at the First update, so even though I have the developer preview downloaded, I can't open it as I need my phone to be at the latest OS.
All I am trying to do or want to do at this point is get my phone from G1 to G2.
I tried both of the guides above, and one gave me a handshake error, and the other a cookie error. Does anyone have any advice, maybe something I'm missing, that might help?
Thanks,
Using that same guide you used (http://forums.wpcentral.com/huawei-ascend-w1/229445-those-who-get-their-w1-market-locked-china.html), try flashing this rom: http://www.mediafire.com/download/l...030.5614.46900.20900_USA-Channel.05011TTC.zip. Supposedly it's a GDR2 ROM but I'm unable to test it because I don't have a u34 version of the phone. One thing to note is when following the guide, run all the qpst applications in administrator mode. You need to be running Windows Vista or above. Also, running it on a virtual machine will not work.
Thanks for the reply, I'll try this when I get home tonight. I've heard that a 32 bit windows 7 is the best OS to try it on. I have a W8 64 bit, do you know if that really makes a difference?

For me it does not work on windows 8.1 64bit, on the other hand it works perfect on windows 7 32 bit. But Microsoft has pulled out the latest update on the W1. They are working on it but so far I am still waiting for the update on the W1. You can follow the status of the updates on the following link : http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...d-b6a2-fa6df0ba7c58?page=118&tm=1399777042881
There was a chinese forum that used a trick to get update by tricking the w1 by changing it in registry to a nokia device but I can't find the link anymore.
Tbh I'm perfectly fine waiting a couple weeks, but to get to that point I need to get to GSR2, as I'm still stuck with 1 atm. Didn't get a chance to try it last night, but I should be able to find a w7 32 bit pc to test it on.
Thanks for the reply and link to that thread.

Help an Android user with 8.1 upgrade difficulties

I am creating this thread out of frustration in not being able to perform what seems like a simple OTA update to Windows 8.1 on my Lumia 810. I have used Android all throughout and am an expert when it comes to rooting and installing customs roms so I am thoroughly aware of things I need to do before I get 8.1. I have been able to get 8.1 succesfully on the 928 and the 521 so I have Preview for Developers installed on my phone. I have used the Nokia Recovery Tool to reinstall the OS and even managed to get through to the two updates prior to installing 8.1 where it gives me the message how I'll love 8.1.
This is where I am stuck. I get messages from "unable to download" or "Downloaded but cannot install" dumba$$ MS messages. I have tried 6 different wifis, turned the clock back, forward, region changes, lnguage pack changes, blah and blah. Nothing effin works!
Finally, I am concluding this is a space allocation issue. When I go into storage check, it shows more than 4 GB available but how do I give more space to system? I tried file manager/explorer but nothing works. I am 100% positive that the moment I give more space in the system folder I should be golden. I have tried removing apps, etc. but I don't think this affects system storage space. I have been trying this for the past 10 days but not going anywhere.
Thanks!

Seriously Lumia 810? 928 and 521 are windows 8. 810 is Windows 7, 7.5 up to 7.8 only. So there is no other way to upgrade it to 8.1. You are a good one when it comes to rooting your phone. But you aint good on doing a google search:laugh:
jaythang, Lumia 810 is a WP8 device! It's a 820 variant -_-
Have tried to hard reset e for first thing try to upgrade?

Lol. I know the 810 does not have an upgrade path but the phone can get 8.1 as per my Google search and some 810 users on this forum .
Lumia 810 is a windows phone 8 device.
To get 8.1, you need to be a registered developer, as the official version is still not yet available to the general public.

Don't know what part of the world you're from and I'm giving you the benefit of doubt but in the good old US of A, I get this for a quick Google search.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2142575/why-wait-how-to-install-windows-phone-8-1-right-now.html
http://www.neowin.net/news/windows-phone-81-preview-for-developers-now-available
Both these links mention that while the 810 may not get an official upgrade path, it will be through Preview for developers. Also, there are many users on this forum who claim they have 8.1 running on their 810s.:laugh::laugh:
But, how many device have you upgraded with your Dev Account? You can associate max 3 devices to a dev account

I don't have solution for this issue. I can only recommend to try to backup and reset your phone and install Windows 8.1 Developer Preview again.

[Q] Update fails to install

Hello,
My 510 x64 phone received a new update from HTC.
OTA_A11_UL_K443_DESIRE_SENSE60_HTC_Europe_1.51.401.2-1.51.401.1_release_4271720d6aeagtsc88zjb1
Is a 30 Mb file that should contain some fixes.
The issue is that the phone re-boots in recovery and at 30 % of the green bar the installation fails. A red download icon shows in the middle of the screen and nothing happens.
In the past i flash some different recovery files but i returned to stock ( stock files that i found online for x64 - 16.0 MB (16,777,216 bytes) )
Can someone please advise if this could be related to my recovery image ?

I forgot you posted this already. I just received a 30MB update from Boost Mobile on the 32 bit version and it fails the same exact way yours does. I contacted HTC and Boost Mobile and it seems if it doesn't update properly we have to wait for HTC to release it in the form of a RUU, which I believe they will just wait for Lollipop and bundle this little fix in with the Lollipop update. I searched on their site to see if there was anyway we could manually update and it doesn't exist. There are only old ROMs. I tried some tricks to manually update and it failed every time. I am completely stock on the Boost Mobile RUU and I totally deleted everything before the install so there aren't any problems on my end. There is simply a problem with the way they are attempting to update our phones.
Pretty sure you cant update if unlocked and rooted. Has to be like out of the box running. I couldnt but I did update on my wifes locked/unrooted phone no problem. Took 10 minutes. Checking it out, couldnt really see much, if any, difference. 30mb is pretty small.

I am on the Boost Mobile stock RUU, locked, and unrooted.
I just noticed the error message in the stock recovery:
htc/sprint_wwe_vm/htc_a11chl:4.4.2/KOT49H/373881.1:user/release-keys" || file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "htc/sprint_wwe_vm/htc_a11chl:4.4.2/KOT49H/373881.2:user/release-keys"
Installation aborted.
Write host_mode:0 done
I did
adb shell
getprop ro.build.fingerprint on my phone and I got:
htc/sprint_wwe_vm/htc_a11chl:4.4.2/KOT49H/433600.1:user/release-keys
This is on the stock Boost RUU, locked, and unrooted.
There are some other items in build.prop that are different than what the update is looking for.
I am going to change them to what is in my phone and try again.
I don't expect it to work, but it can't hurt.
If it doesn't work, I'll try a stock Rom backup from this site, then try the update again.
Sounds good man. Check back in with the results, I'd like to see how it turns out for you. IMO though, I really think the update isn't worth all the hassle but I totally get it if you are/want to just get it to work. I'd probably do the same. good luck.

Thanks. I know it's not really worth the hassle, but I'm learning a lot by messing with it. It's not working, still. I may be wrong but I think they made a mistake with the build.prop when sending the updates to some of our phones. I think some of us just have to wait for Lollipop.
