Use a Root Explorer with superuser permissions to navigate to /system/build.prop
and open the file with a text editor. Add the line
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
at the end of the file. Save and close. Reboot. Done

Be aware that editing your build.prop might not allow you to install future MIUI updates.
So take a backup first. After every update, take a backup. Then, before updating again, put the backup in place, set permissions to rw-r--r--
Basically, you'll have to do this every time, so I would suggest using some root app for this. If ur on MIUI 5, you can install WSM Tools...that should have a module that could help...(I've never tried it though...)

If by stock you mean the stock android ROM and not miui you can use Xposed framework and install gravity box module and it will give you the option to use soft keys. Give them both a quick search in this forum

[Q] How to tell if I have proper root?

The way I rooted my phone, or I think I did, is by flashing this prerooted rom version KKA made by this guy you all know of. Forgot his name.
Anyhow, that is how I have cwm 5.3 and was able to install ICS roms and now MIUI.
So right now im running MIUI, not relevant, but I have superuser app, and I can give root permission to some other apps when they ask.
What my problem is, using root browser and astro manager/browser, I can't add a folder in /data/systems/theme.
Someone mentioned that I might not have proper root (and this got me all confused because all this time I thought I had proper root)
How is it possible that I may not have proper root after being able to install custom roms and have superuser app and etc?
How can I tell if I do have proper root or not?
(GOSH IM SUCH A NOOB I DONNNO JACKKK)
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

you might need to enable RW for system folder, might work then - quite simple approach here (Total Commander for Android)
Download an app from market its call root checker... And as the name says, it does the same job... You already said that you see su icon in app drawer so check with this app.... Comment above as well is a sound advice!!
Hit thanks if it helped!!

You need to be rooted, at least to be able to use AntTek and Root Uninstaller, and no, you won't loose it in case of FW update, unless the upgrade is for the camera too... but the process is fast. 5 minutes and its done

Thanks Dude, but did download the ICS Camera, to take pictures without shutter sound.
Ruedas, a rooted phone doesnt receive OTA updates, right?
strange thing that i downloaded the apk, tried to install it but wouldnt work even after changing permissions. Had no camera forawhile. Downloaded the stock apk, just copy and pasted it in the folder and all of a sudden i have my camera back with no shutter sound...no idea why but thanks
I'm trying my best to fix (IOW; mute) the shutter sound on my GF's O4X. While I believe I understand how this is done, I'm not able to actually get it done.
I've managed to get the phone rooted (thanks to alexp999's simple to follow guide). If I've understood things correctly; I now need to replace the original camera.apk with the modified one found in this thread.
Problem is that, in the /system/app folder, both renaming files (the old camera.apk) and copying files (the new camera.apk) to the folder fails.
Anyone able to see what I'm missing / doing wrong? Any help would be thoroughly appreciated!..

Thanks for the reply and suggestion RuedasLocas!
Titanium Backup seems to have the option to uninstall system apps, I'll give that a go. Would however like to figure out how to copy files to the system/app folder before I do that (given that this is required to re-install/enable the camera). Have tried with both ES File Manager and Total Commander; both have been given SU-privelages, both are able to browse to the folder, neither is able to copy files to or rename files in the folder...

Tried AnTek Explorer; What an interesting file manager! Will have to test this for a longer period of time, could possibly become my new goto file manager. Thanks for the tip!..
Though I couldn't get the new/modified camera.apk to the system/app directory. Though this time it failed with an error messge; "Error Don't have enough permission to do this action" (see attached screenshot). Have double-checked that "Native mode" is enabled within AnTek and that its (permanently) enabled in SuperSU. Not sure how I can give an app even more permissions...

Just reboot the phone and it should be enough.
Some apps need a reboot to work properly.

Thanks for all the help! Rebooting allowed me to rename files. Then I finally figured out why copying files to the system folder failed (or at least partly); For reasons unknown to me, I weren't allowed to copy/move files directly from the external_sd card to the system/app directory, Had to first move the to an internal location, then I could move then to the desired location!
End result; The annoying shutter sound is gone! :victory:
Again; Thanks for all the help!

The IMEI is not supossed to change, is your phone's UINIQUE number. Try editing the build.prop for model number and see if it works for you.
Thank you so much for an early reply. I am a noob when it comes to flashing roms and changing the builds. I will be very grateful to you if you can provide me with a link which tells how to change the build.

Try this
Take the build.prop from the system folder and copy it in your internal storage
Now in pc open buil.prop from internal storage
Do the required editing in notepad or notepad ++
Save it
Now using root explorer copy the edited buil.prop to system folder with permissions rw-r-r

Multi-user mode (Guest mode) with simple build.prop edit

Enable multi-user feature on your Android one phone (running Android 5.1 Lollipop) without flashing .zip through custom recovery. All you need is root access.
Just go to /system , edit your "build.prop" file and add the following lines:
fw.max_users=3
fw.show_multiuserui=1
Save and reboot your phone. Done! Tested on Micromax Canvas A1.
Aren't there other procedures too? What's the point of it?

for those having trouble getting into the guest account and it sticks on unable to open, setting up, optimizing etc,
try and delete your setup-wizard apps in system-priv-apps as it sometimes will cause issues in setup of a additional user.
LG V20 confrimed working with this work around. still some other glitches, but good enough to add a kid user to your device!
Hello,
I have the multiuser service successfully enabled on my Acer liquid Z630S (Android 6 Marshmallow installed), but there is some problem.
I hope that someone can help me.
1) If I use the administrator account all works good.
If I use another user or the guest user, into settings the option "home page" and "audio" are missing.
Ringtones does not works, phone vibrates only.
It is no possible to manage the ringtones not even with physical buttons: the volume bar goes up and down, but no effect.
This problem affects only the phone ringtones: whatsapp, messenger and other ringtones and notifications have no problem.
Please, someone knows what permission do I must set for give to users the permissions for manage and use the audio ringtones, please?
XML files to set user permission are stored in /data/system/users, but I have not idea about what I would have to modify.
2) Files stored in the external SD card are not private, but available for all users, even the guest.
Please, someone know if it is possible to make private for any user also the files stored in the external SD card?
I thank you in advance everyone will advise me.

I'm not sure what's up with this. I've had Xposed installed before and have been using the same CM12 nightly for months. I re-installed the same Xposed I had before and it's telling me it installed but not active. I checked the logs the first time and it said something about a folder not existing or something. Make a screenshot of the Framework section within the Xposed Installer and post it here.
Furthermore, provide information about your device, your Android version and your ROM.
What did you do to install Xposed? What files did you try to install? Those are mandatory information, without them nobody can help you.
@kissnarocks02 You solved the problem?

I had a similar/same problem. According to the log there was a ClassNotFoundException starting at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) - some incompatibilities between extended classes. I presumed that as Xposed evolved, at one point the developers decided to rewrite a class or two and used different names as they couldn't guarantee compatibility. Therefore I tried to install a lower version of Xposed, that is v
2.4 (for a Huawei Ascend G6, v4.3). Perhaps this helps someone...
