Hey all.
A friend asked me to take a look at her Kindle and I wanted to double check a couple of things before I start hammering away.
Its currently stuck in a bootloop:
On power on it displays a battery logo with 1/8th of it red. The logo bootanimation appears for a few minutes before a beep/sound/noise before rebooting back to the battery screen.
Theres no response from Windows when connected to USB.
Could a faulty/dead battery cause this or is this fixable with a FB cable and a restore?
Shes already spoke to a guy at Amazon who did all but spit on her as she is just out of warranty (she was really upset at they way he spoke to her) but did offer her the new 32gb 7" HDX for £87 rather than £229.
Is it worth me having a blast at getting it up and running again?
It sound to me like all you need to do is leave it plugged in to power overnight (they take a while to charge). If that doesn't work, have at it.

I think thats how she noticed the bootlooping. The battery was dead (from normal usage) and she'd left it on charge overnight and woke up to it like that.
Im just being overly cautious as its not my unit. I dont want to compromise it and have Amazon decline if she does return it and takes the 'upgrade' due to tampering.

Some "upgrade." You may as well just go ahead and break out the fastboot cable and go nuts with the restore. There's a tool for it in the development section, but be warned - it's a 1 GB+ download, so be sure to have something to do while you wait for the download
After that, I would go here so that you can install a second bootloader and install TWRP. Then once you have a working system, go ahead and create a "stock" restore point your friend can fall back on should something else happen.
Finally got the Kindle off her and have a fastboot cable on the way...
Shes a very non tecchy user and was a bit over-whelmed when I said I could turn it into a 'proper' tablet if I can fix it so think Im just gonna get it back to stock but maybe with TWRP etc so its easier to fix in the future. Mabye root it and get the Play store on it while Im at it.
;Does rooting deny access to any of Amazons services? Got some reading up to do methinks
;edit; Ah now Ive had a chance to have a proper look at it, it looks like a KF2. Definately got to do some reading now

Ive rooted a few phones and tablets before and have never bricked a device (got close) until now. This kindle fire i believe is truly hard bricked. What happened was, I rooted it with the kindle fire utility, and when it rebooted it was stuck on the kindle fire logo screen. I let it run flat over night, and the next day it was still stuck. So i downloaded kindle unbrick utility to attempt to fix this and then it was in a bootloop and it is now in a hard brick state. power button is non responsive, unless charging, it will turn green then immediately to orange and stay that way. I like to think that nothing is unrecoverable, and im very determined to get this thing back up and running, even if it means taking the case off and flashing it with probes lol.. Ive been working on it for about a week now and I seem to have made things worse. So I'm hoping there's a genius out there that can help me bring life back into this thing.

My kindle fire hd this brick. I do not think this has no solution. Friend, how did you brick yours? only to rooting? modificastes or some other file system /?? I achieved rooting mine perfectly but I brick by modifying the build.prop! someone to help us: S
If you have a factory cable(this is not the one that came with device, Google kindle fire factory cable), you should be able to boot into fastboot. Then it is possible to restore the system partition with a backup of a system.img. Check out the - Backup and Restore System Software in the general section. Not sure if a backup from a different kindle will work but it might be worth a shot. I have posted a a link for system.img backup here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1944718. This was from a KFHD. I hope it helps some people get their devices working.

Stick them to Amazon too replace/repair..
Just pretend you have no idea how this happened / it just died on its own, just sell your act properly..
This is exactly why Amazon has locked this device down( not good enough though). Too many people messing with files they don't understand and making Amazon pay for their irresponsibility. If you are not willing to eat the cost of a device then don't mess with it.

HTC fixed that problem by allowing anyone to root their device, with no hassels. Amazon is not loosing any money from the occasional bricked device.
I have a KF2 that boots into TWRP, but cannot do anything else. There is no os in the system, and the internal sd card cannot be seen either by TWRP or on my computer. The mounting shows a drive letter, drive F, but nothing can be dragged/dropped to it, as it tells me to insert an SD card into drive F. If I try to boot normally, I get the orange Kindle Fire logo, and it just sits like that. Everything I try to do results in a "device not found" message. Any help here, please guys?
The links to salvation are in my signature. Be more careful next time.

Assuming I was stupid enough to not realize my Fire HD was a 2nd generation unit... and I tried to install TWRP... and it is no longer recognized with a Fastboot cable... and will not turn on...
Has anyone figured out a way to un-brick this or should I use it as an accent when I build my chimney?
Hi All,
I'm a complete Noob to the Android world so I passed my Kindle Fire HD to friend who said he can install Jellybean on for me, but now the unit does not respond to anything? Has he bricked it and is there any way of fixing it?
Yes bricked. At this point doesn't look good.

If you plug it into a pc does it recognise the device, or even an android device?...Im no expert but Ive had some bad roots in my time and got very affraid. Ive found that if a pc can recognise it all hope is not lost. Saying that Ive also found that PC's have problems with very flat batteries. Leave on the the PC usb to charge for several hours before you pass judgement...I know this is a difficult option on the Fire but if that doesnt work you could try to remove the battery for a couple of hours. This is hands on stuff I never tried....there might be something on You Tube? Im Guessing since the battery is enclosed it might not be a simple "lift out"!!!!! As far as I am aware there isnt a recovery or download mode you can boot into... You could try seaching Kindle fire Hard Brick / soft brick for more information....A soft brick is good!!! Not very good but better than hard brick!
In future Id ask to see your friends device running rooted or with a different ROM. I only do mine and family until I know I can make it work...
Im not really liking the fire so much! I tried rooting one today....It didnt brick and it rooted....However Super user didnt get root access....Those tricksters at Amazon are trully annoying

Cheers Mate,
Will try and charge it first and see if there is any life and if my machine picks it up.
Bricked!
Sorry, but you're likely bricked. There is another thread on here about the same thing. Your buddy messed up royally as the ROMs available are only for the original KF, not the KFHD and most of the ones I've seen clearly spell that out (although some development is under way). I'd say it's time to pay him a visit!

So no life what so ever....
Well Like you say hang on to it. I wouldnt hold your breath for a fix in the next couple of weeks though....The root is only an exploit and roms are pretty far away. Given the fact that there isnt a DL mode or recovery mode your brick is still gonna be just as broken in 2 weeks time.
As far as I am aware the Root is an Exploit. It doesnt actually unlock the bootloader it just tricks it, so ROMS are a long way away..
Someone will do it...they always do. If it can be programmed by people it can be hacked by people. Given the way Amazon locked it down though it might be months. Mind you they said that about the ROOT and that took days...So I could be wrong!
How about selling it for spares on E-bay....The battery is gonna be good and people are always dropping stuff so the case and screen will be worth something!
Im really sorry about your device...Im pretty noob to android and have screwed a device trying to go a step further. It does suck but I kept at it and I am learning......SO next time dont give it your M8 to screw up....Try not to screw it up yourself....
For me thats the whole point of Android. Stick with this forum and all the helpfull people on it!

I dont think that will work. Thats if the KFHD is not recognized by the PC. I bricked mine b4, where all it would to is launch into recovery mode. If the KFHD still turns on, I recommend a factory cable. You can find them on ebay or other places. It worked for me.
I have been been doing research on this and I am a little lost.
I got root on the unit and google play usign the KFF. I then noticed the potential to completely convert to a regular android tablet but both of them said I need the tweek recover which I got form here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2106463

The title says "Bricked Kindle Fire HD...", but you have failed to explain exactly how your Kindle Fire HD is bricked.
Does your device power on? Are you getting anything on the display?
help for bricked device
1- make sure you own a factory cable
2- setup window or Linux with latest java sdk and ADB
READ ALL ALL related posts and download files needed. Must important,, only try one method of De-bricking.
Good luck.
The Kindle Fire will power on and show the logo.....fizz out and show a white fuzzy line down the screen
And I did buy a factory cable in anticipation of this. I tried the recovery method as stated above. Didnt work. The boot cycle kept restarting by itsself

First off, the Kindle Fire HD 7" is not ready for the full android treatment... so perhaps you should put that aside for now (like the rest of us).
Go here to get the help you need. Post your problem and be patient because it is a pretty active thread and the original poster has his hands full.
Good luck!

You know......I am such an idiot. Even though I was careful to read the warnings I missed the part of it being for Kindle Fire 2 not Kindle Fire HD. Either way.....ended up exchanging the device and starting over. Already got root on the device. Disabled OTA amazon updates, Disabled Ad services from Amazon, and just finished installing Play store. Root i accomplished through the win64 file i downloaded as a manual root function. The rest I used the KFFAide program. My next question is if that same program is reliable enough to install the 2nd bootloader? And is it even worth it installing a different ROM? Please advise.

It's hard to say. Could be a month, could be 6 months. It depends on the amount of free time the wonderful developers working on it devote to building a kernel. As far as I am concerned, they can take as long as they like. After all, they provide for free.
The second bootloader and twrp is a good idea if you want a recovery. It is recommended by this user.

Sh*t. Will Amazon know what caused it to brick?
Probably, they can throw a guess if not. I don't know if its better to lie or tell the truth because they are sometimes forgiving the first time you send a brick in, but I don't know, I guess u could say u tried updating to latest os or something, it's the only other way the boot loader could get flashed and it be not your fault due to a bad DL, unless there's a md5sum checker built into the updating program on the kindle.

Just chatted with an Amazon CSR. Once convinced it was dead they are sending a replacement. Never asked how/what caused it and no mention of rooting/flashing. As long as the defective one is sent back within 30 days, no charge.
Just can't eff this one up now
I have encountered a problem with my Kindle Fire HD 7", and have exhausted every avenue I have tried to follow, and still can't find a working solution for my problem, short of contacting Amazon themselves. Please not I'm a Programmer for my local council, so I'm well educated in the tech field.
The problem that I have is, I was trying to install Cyanogen Mod onto my Kindle and all was going well, I was installing TWRP and suddenly my computer Blue Screened, and now has rendered my Kindle completely useless, ****...its being used as a paper weight as I type. Nothing I try is getting anywhere with regards to my Kindle. I have tried every possible solution possible and nothing has worked so far. I have tried shorting out the USB, running specific CLI Diagnostics (which made the screen flash white and that was all) but most of the time I'm finding avenues that I have already tried and haven't worked.
So I ask, is there anyone who knows what has caused the Kindle to enter this completely unresponsive state. I mean the conclusion that I have come to is that this has to be something to do with the order of my boot partitions, as they appear, from what I have read to be jumbled up and not in order, which is the method that the Kindle uses to Boot, reads each partition in order and then boots up.
So please if anyone has any advice or solution for my trouble, or is this just going to be a case of the Kindle becoming a full time paper weight? And please don't waste my time with smug comments!
Thank you
I'm a bit confused, were you flashing cm with adb sideload or something? Because I don't see how a blue screen would mess up your device while its flashing a ROM unless you were flashing your boot loader from your PC at the time, so any more details you can share would help, but if it's not even turning on its usually hard bricked and you will most likely have to see if amazon will send you a free replacement.

This is exactly what I was doing when the Computer crashed, I was flashing the 2nd Bootloader onto the Kindle and TWRP when the Computer crashed, and the .bat file was half way through the process at this time, which is what has led me to believe that the boot partitions are in the wrong order, hence why the kindle has been hard-bricked.
Is there anything I can do or has this just become a object that I can kick down my road?
Yea I would see if amazon will send you a replacement under warranty. Next time you try it I suggest using the fire flash app so you don't have to worry about bluescreens.

That's exactly what I decided to do in the end, literally has no other option and can't find anything that can even give me a glimmer of hope. Just hope that at some point, someone will be able to resolve this problem, as I'm forever seeing this happening to people, especially when they flash the wrong boot loader onto their Kindle.
Thanks anyway for the help
