Multiple Google employees spotted running Android L on Nexus 4 - Nexus 4 General

After Google released the developer preview of the Android L on just the Nexus 5 and the Nexus 7, those using the older Nexus 4 were left in the cloud of uncertainty, wondering whether their phone will get the final version when it releases later this year.

Moto Nexus might be sooner than later

I didn't get the feeling that would be a true Nexus. You know how Motorola is with their bootloaders.

the irony lol:laugh:
must be later, they need months to testing the devices
The next nexus will be a Motorola for sure and i am waiting for it! until then i will use the nexus 4 (still waiting for it )
And may it will be named " Nexus Razr"
WBR
Still hoping for a nexus xperia lol

Only an idiot would doubt that google will make their own phones through Motorola. Its more a matter of when then if.
Its not going to be a nexus I believe it will be branded as the droid RAZR X and will be realesed with 4.2.2 in q1.Google should have 4.2.2 by then.
I'm just skeptical about it being a real 'nexus' device because hasn't every Motorola phone been only sold by Verizon? Idk if moto and Verizon have a contract but since Google owns Motorola anyone would assume they would make their devices but idk

No, Motorola has sold phones on other carriers. For example, I owned a Motorola Photon on Sprint myself.
However, I think this whole rumor is around some "X" phone by Google and Motorola that _won't_ be a Nexus and _will_ be carried exclusively by Verizon. I'll see if I can find a link...
This has nothing to do with the Nexus 4 and since a lot of users still haven't even received theirs yet, we are long way from discussing this phone's successor in here.
I've already moved one of these to Android General if you would like to continue the discussion there.

Are New 3G or WiFi Nexus 7s shipping with JOP40E?

OK so hear me out. It seems Nexus devices sold from February onward are shipping with JOP40(X) builds that were never released OTA to older devices.
For example:
New Nexus 4s (as of early February) are shipping with JOP40G.
New Nexus 10s (as of early February) are shipping with JOP40F.
Now, when JOP40G was released to AOSP, in the commit logs, someone made a mention about merges from JOP40E and JOP40F. We know JOP40F is for the Nexus 10, so what was JOP40E for? I'm curious if JOP40E is a build shipping on new Nexus 7 devices.
Has anyone bought a new 3G or WiFi-only Nexus 7 in the last 2 weeks? Did it ship with JOP40E?
If anyone does get one with that build, please get me the bootloader version, baseband version, and URL to the OTA file for the JOP40E -> JDQ39 update file. If you need help with this, I can help you. Having this information will allow me to host the file in the permanent archive repository on randomphantasmagoria.com and link to it in the N7 OTA URL sticky thread. This information will need to be acquired right after taking the tablet out of the box, before applying the 4.2.2 update that'll pop up when you turn it on for the first time.
Thanks!
Haven't you thought that JOP40F - previous N10 build?

JOP40F is what ships presently. If you bought an N10 today, that is what would be on it when you turned it on for the first time. Likewise JOP40G for the Nexus 4. I'm not sure what you're getting at.

My point is, if JOP40F = N10 and JOP40G = N4, does JOP40E = N7? If you bought an N7 right now, today, what build would be on it when you turned it on for the first time. The only way to know is to ask someone who had bought one in the last couple of weeks, which is the point of this thread. I have a suspicion that it would be JOP40E.

Just bought this today and I'll be returning it but here's what it shipped with from Walmart.

OK so it came with JDQ39 out of the box? There wasn't a system update that you applied first?

Well that answers the question as far as the Wi-Fi version is concerned. Thank you!
Now, what about the 3G version? Has anyone bought one of those in the last week or two? If so, did you note what build was installed out of the box?

I'm 75% sure that 3G versiipons are being shipped with JDQ39 now as well, since even Wi-Fi versions do

You're probably right...I'd just like to get verification of that from someone who got one.
I have a 3G nexus 7,bought it in December though. Current build number - JDQ39
Thanks.
Is there anyone who purchased a 3G model in the last 3 weeks that can tell me what build came shipped on it, before any OTAs were applied?
Mine is wifi only bought last week JDQ39

My Nexus 7 HSPA (received last week) came with some JVSxx ROM, which was "Android 4.2". Tried to Google the build number, but didn't find any hits. Anyway, it didn't last long since an OTA update was pushed to it almost immediately and I quickly rooted/flashed it to an AOKP build.

It's actually JVP15S. That was the original 4.2 build that shipped on the first 3G N7s off the production line.

NEW Google play store update

I'm not sure but I might be getting it twisted. but here's the thing, there's a new update my friends wildfire has the new play store and he has it on his 16gb nexus 7 whereas I have the 32gb nexus 7 but still haven't received the update like many of android users have. Its bugging me because I'm pretty sure nexus devices are supposed to be up to date with updates, which I am not. I don't want to install it manually I would prefer to receive it over air , I would just like to know if any other users are experiencing this and is there anyway of recieving this update without manually downloading the new play store?
App updates are handled differently. They roll out to all users independent of manufacturer. Nexus users ARE 1st for OS updates.

Just Dow load the new Apk and then install it and you will have the new one.

[REPLY] _ hope that helps.

It's not exactly anything to get excited about.
I got it about 2 weeks ago I guess, probably 2-3 weeks after other folks were getting it via OTA. Google rolls out updates very cautiously.

Interesting
hope they take the opportunity to incorporate fixes for the other issues.
dumb article.
this has been publicized and it's a backend google now update that will effect any/all phones with google now.
it has nothing to do with the n5 specifically.

[Q] Why are we not seeing an official 5.02 release on the Nexus 6 yet?!`

This is not a topic that I've seen recently covered, but I'm really wondering why the Nexus 6 is still not seeing a OTA download of the 5.02.?

questions go into the q&a section, not into general. i requested that a mod move it there.
to answer your question, ask google, only they know. but i dont run stock, i run aosp on my nexus 6. and aosp is 5.0.2 at the moment
5.0.2 is a fix for other devices

mostly.
but also a few little things that help out the n6 as well.
I'm sure Google decided to just not bother and focus on the very soon 5.1 update

Interesting. What is the difference between stock Android on the Nexus 6 vs AOSP? Wouldn't it be minimal since Nexus 6 is essentially stock android without modifications?
How are devices like the at&t moto x 2014 getting android 5.0.2 ?

I'm pretty sure that they're planning for a major jump from 5.0.1 to 5.1 with fixes. Hope they'll be able to fix all the major and minor issues :fingers-crossed:

it is very minimal. some minor things under the hood, as aosp gets many google fixes before there's an update. plus the apps differ. like the browser. i love using the aosp browser, and despise chrome!
This is precisely why I'm wondering what the Moto X from the 5.02 version that a Nexus 6 wouldn't benefit from? Doesn't make much sense from that point of view unless this 5.1 is like weeks away if not sooner, which I have serious doubt's that's the case. Google just doesn't move major jumps that quickly.

Word is that 5.1 should be pushed any minute now. There are 5.1 build numbers for nexus 6 leaked already.
The answer is that 5.0.2 is ALL about adding device support and/or bug fixes for certain other devices besides Nexus 6. Since NONE of the 5.0.2 changes have ANY impact on Nexus 6, there is no point in pushing it to Nexus 6 at all.

I would be very ecstatic if that is the case! I have no problem seeing tradition of major release broken!
