Between all the flagship phablets released in 2014, what do you think is the most worthy opponent to the Note 4 to be considered before you go and buy the note 4.
I am evaluating my options here, and considering other phones like the LG G3 beside the Note 4.
Share what do you think is a worthy opponent to the note 4.

In terms of the Note 3 Zero.
No SPen = no competitors.
None are in the same class in terms of multi app usage either.

I'm considering a Z3, and if an HTC M8 Maxx was out, I would consider that too...My wife's G3 is a pretty nice phone as well.
If a stylus is important to you, then obviously there is NO competition..

The way I see it we have four options
1) a worthy oponent to the note 4 would be another colour of the note 4, say you have a black one then a white one would be a worthy oponent.
2) a note edge maybe
3) a note 3
4) if you dont want to spend so much money that is then the oneplus one.
These are my opinions.

There are no opponents to the note line to be totally honest.
I see xda site got a facelift.

i dont have any personal grudge against that phone, but the poor display talks for itself

There's nothing comparable when it comes to display. Displaymate says its the best mobile display ever. The closest is probably the iPhone 6+ 1080p display if you don't count the QHD which most people don't care about, and it is a distant second. That's what you get when you are the only ones with modern OLED tech on a phone.
Nothing comparable to the Snapdragon 805 of the Exynos either. I mean, literally there are no 805 phones yet and definitely no 20nm Exynos phones which is, again, a Samsung exclusive.
S-Pen and wacom digitizer. Of course no one has it.
Camera nothing is comparable. All those crappy Chinese phablets use the same 13MP sensor with terrible software processing. The Vibe Z2 Pro supposedly has the same 16MP OIS sensor, but I've seen more than a few reviews of it and the quality really sucks. Software does a whole lot, and the glass and camera unit they built the sensor into is likely not that great either. LG G3 isn't very sharp and their low light shots are very overexposed. and blur easy because they rely heavily on the OIS. Xperia Z2/Z3 is low contrast, underexposed, noisy, poor colors, and very inconsistent. It has no OIS either. The only superior cameras are iPhone 6/6+ for nightshots, and Nokia Pureview cameras. Basically nothing can compete with the Note 4 in Android. Android just really sucks with cameras in general.

another none here, but come to think of it little more, Note 3 is actually the only opponent. Others have no stylus and therefore not in the same class, Note 2 is little outdated. I know it's bad since my choices for phone are limited to 2 models, but I refuse to have phone without stylus.

Camera comparison: N4 vs. iPhone5 (large image file embedded)

My co-worker (iPhone5) and I (N4) each tried to take an identical photo of some bourbon I bought the other day. The side-by-side is below. Granted, this test is close to meaningless, because he might have been shaking during his photo, but I was still pleased to see how much better the N4 output is compared to the iPhone 5 for this particular photo.

PHILLY!
What was the actual color of the wall behind?
Wow, N4 is much nicer in that situation. Probably isn't true for all though...

Yeah, and the 23-year is like a symphony in your mouth! Too bad the Pappy brand is so hard to come across these days
This confirms what I have seen from these two cams. The iPhone uses a lot of algorithms to make photos "pop", much like setting an SLR to output vivid jpegs. N4 seems to be less agressive with exposure and post-processing.
I can only explain the iPhone image looking fuzzier as being due to camera movement (it does have a better lens).
Yeah, it seems like the camera on the N4 is not adding any effects, allowing you to adjust it in the app itself.
I can see why Apple wants to adjust it a bit though, they are targeting people who just want to take a picture and leave it as it is. Though it might be true of Android customers too, it doesn't seem like Google has that as a priority.

Wow. The iPhone picture looks bright and washed out. The n4 looks darker yet has more detail. Also, the iPhone picture looks like you'd be drinking something watered down and the n4 pic looks like some manly stuff I'd drink even though I don't drink.
I voided my warranty.
As someone who owns both phones. This is a one off situation. The iPhone 5 has a better camera.
yeah, my gf has the iphone5 and i will say it has better photos in about 90% of situations... either way, they are two of the best phone cameras on the market so im okay with either

Motorola X Phone or Nexus 4, which one would you prefer?

People say that Moto X Phone will drop in Aug., equipped a Dual-Core CPU, Clear-Pixle camera, and a Big battery which can let you using it for over 2 days. As the Nexus 4 has overheat problem, and a poor battery, easy smash glass back... which one would you prefer.
Actually my Nexus 4 can handle two days' usage, but it is really hot at sometimes. I would prefer Moto X phone, if it will be available soon..

High end > Mid range
I'd need to see the reviews once it's released to make any judgements on it over the N4.

I'd say the decision comes down to what the real specs and details are when it's all officially announced. If it's vanilla Android with Moto widgets as a bonus- it will be interesting.
With Google/Motorola looking at spending a TON on marketing for this phone; it's hard to imagine Google allowing Moto to release something that won't grab a lot of people's attention.
Also, where it's being sold can be a factor for Nexus 4 owners. If it's carrier only I won't buy it. If it's through Play Store then we're getting closer to raising my interest.

I think I would stick with the Nexus. I don't like the button placement on that phone, I like the flat slab feel of the Nexus, curved phones tend to feel funny to me, glass > plastic, Nexus has a quad core where the X is said to have a dual core, etc.
LTE, better camera, better battery, and a better looking phone.... It is hard to stick with the N4 after the Moto X is released. It's rumored to have the same price as the N4 and considering it is being sold on the Play Store, it is clearly going to have a stock experience.
Easily the Moto X. Smart Actions are awesome imo. I always like Moto's build quality too. Their cameras are average. I should've bought a Moto Atrix HD over the Nexus 4 myself. The LTE will be active on the Moto X. I am preparing to sell my Nexus 4 for the Moto X or S4 in the next few weeks. The Nexus 4 is flawed because the digitzer is visible on each device, the camera is not great at all, the phone overheats too much, the battery is not as good as other devices like the S3. Outside of those issues, the phone is a good overall product. You cannot have everything for $330 (after tax and shipping.) The Moto X will have a slightly faster processor (might be dual core, but still faster, 1.7 dual > 1.5 quad even though dual will be overworked a bit more), the camera will be a lot better at 10 MP, the build quality will be better, the OLED display will help, the battery should be a RAZR Maxx HD style battery at like 3100 mAh, LTE like said before, customization on the build quality and design of your choice, and you can always put a rom like CM10 on it.

NEXUS 5! What do you think? Good choice?

What do you think about the unknown NEXUS 5? I'm going to move him from P970 ...
It is a good choice? I like clean ANDROID and my price limit is $ 512 .. Would you propose a better device with better equipment for the same price?

I am not gonna answer your question since i am not sure whether or not this is a prank thread. Even your budget is dodgy.. $ 512?? what a specific number... Is that 1 buck for every ram in OB?
Anyway i'll give you my opinion about Nexus 5, so that you can make a comparison, on a chance that you are serious about this. Nexus 5 will most likely be manufactured by LG, based on the monster G2. LG is better hardwarewise speaking, but lacks in all other things.
(Off topic it is said that Korean G2 will have SD car slot and removable battery, but international version won't. Another .tupid LG decision. I was searching a replacement from LG for OB, and i came across a phone of theirs which doesn't have "flash". Who puts a camera without flash. As i said best hardware poor everything else)

GS4 owner just got a Nexus 5, and its great

The Nexus 5 looks big in pictures but is actually smaller than my galaxy s4 with a very thin case on the G4. And the Nexus doesn't need a case because the back is is rubbery and grippy, beautiful! Also, it feels absolutely premium in terms of build quality and materials.
The screen is brilliant, bar none the best I've ever seen. And better than my iPhone 5.
The camera shutter sound is very subtle, in fact I'll keep it on
The navigation keys are a lot closer so it's a lot easier to use one handed.
Speaker phone is awesome: loud and clear.
Needless to say the phone overall is as fast as all hell.
Nexus 5 screen is vastly easier to read in direct sunlight
Where does the Galaxy s4 beat the Nexus? So far all I've found is the speaker volume, which seems to be a little low when playing videos. That and the replaceable battery and memory card slot.
Its my first day with the Nexus 5, and so far, so good.
Just thought I'd give a little feedback for those of you who are on the fence about switching. I have both at the moment, but my S4 may soon be on Craigslist.
Hows the camera
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
I've only taken a hand full of photos, but so far the camera looks very good. Plenty of detail and great white balance.
I've been considering switching as well - but there's a few things that keep me on the fence. The S4 has AMOLED (which I prefer to IPS, but subjective) and removable battery/microsd. And the battery is larger on the S4.
But as the other user asked, how is the camera? Apparently it's not as good due to flawed software, but there IS image stabilization. Hmm...
When you put the Nexus 5 next to the galaxy s4 with both at full brightness , the Galaxy looks muted, fuzzy, dim. Take your phone to a Best Buy or Sprint store and have a look for yourself.
And here is one of my first few snapshots.

Was thinking about switching myself, but I've heard mixed things about the camera. I'd have to test it myself in person before I could make a decision
I used to get all anal about about the cameras too until I realize that all I ever use the snaps for is Facebook. I have real cameras for when I get serious.
Good to know.

Perhaps you got a lucky phone or your just so happy to get a new phone you look past the defects but according to this thread and what ive been reading over in the nexus forums i dont think theres ever been a phone thats had this many problems out the box. If i was LG i would seriously be concerned bc i think there gona be seeing thousands of units returned

I just glanced at that thread and looks for the most part like people being super anal about non issues. But hey, if you get a bad one, send it back. Right?
meh...I was really into the phone at first and was considering selling my S4, but after reading a bunch of reviews and people's opinions on it...it seems meh and I'll just stick with the S4 for now. Went to the Nexus forums and nothing but fanboys in there jumping on anybody that says anything bad about the phone and trying to defend their purchase.

Anyway, here are a few more shots from the camera, and then I am off this topic. Good luck everyone.
And here are the few more snaps I shot with the Nexus.
The saturation is a bit over the top at default settings, but otherwise they look good to me.
I was thinking of selling my S4 for the nexus..until I seen a smaller battery. Specs mean nothing if it doesn't turn on.

Time will tell about the battery life. Some have said it's so so, and others have said it last for days between charges.
I might get the nexus. But with the wobbly buttons. Non removable battery and no Sim slot. Plus dead pixels and light leakage among other problems that's kind of scary for a phone that's just been release

Hey all
I thought it may be an idea to create a thread to compare Samsung's two current flagship devices, the Note 4 and S5. While we usually see these two flagships announced at the same time, this year we have best part of a six month gap. For me the S-Pen is a must, which is why I've stuck with the note series since the original. But how much of a deal breaker is this for others?
Design
Next we have the exterior, its great to see Samsung finally embrace a metal finish. The note 3 had a metallic looking strip around the edge, while sure it looked good, the feel of it was always a disappointment. The note 4 fixes this by using the real deal around the exterior edge, giving much more of a premium feel. The S5 sticks with the same plastic fantastic approach, but is smaller and easier to handle due to its more rounded design. Although the use of metal gives the note 4 more of a high-end device look and feel, would anybody take the S5 due to its reduced size and weight?
Display
While we're on the subject of size, it brings us to the display. Both devices use the same SAMOLED technology, just the Note 4's being considerably larger. This is to be expected as they are aimed at different audiences. The Note 4’s 5.7-inch 2,560 x 1,440 pixel display gets you pixel density of 515ppi, compared to the S5's 5.1-inch 1080 x 1920 pixels screen bringing 432ppi. Anything over 350ppi will give a sharp display, and its still in debate if these massive resolutions are of any actual benefit to screens of this size. What would members thoughts be on this be?
Performace
So the nitty-gritty, which is faster? As we have different versions of both devices, we will stick to the Quad core versions as its the one we will see in the UK. Both use very similar Quad core chipsets, the Snapdragon 801 running at 2.5GHz in the S5 and a Snapdragon 805 at 2.7GHz in the Note 4, both are very snappy processors and will perform well, but its hardly a massive leap when we take the time period that's passed. The real difference is in GPU power, the Note 4 packs an Adreno 420 which is claimed to be around 40% faster than the S5's Adreno 330, of course the Note 4 has a lot more pixels to "push" so how this equates to real world performance is yet to be seen. On the face of it we have two very similar devices in way of performance, it may be down to if you like playing games etc. Looking forward to members thoughts on this:good:
Camera
Both devices come with 16 MP sensors, but we have a big difference, the S5 uses one made by Samsung featuring its ISOCELL technology, while the Note 4 uses a Sony IMX240 sensor. Quite why this has happened is a mystery, but we can only speculate that its down to production, possibly working on the S6's new camera?
While the Note 4's camera may be lagging somewhat behind the S5's due to the use of the more traditional camera technology, both are likely to perform well. One thing the S5 lacks is optical image stabilization, this should give the Note 4 an edge in low-light snaps. On the flip-side, the S5 has hybrid phase detection auto-focus, this is used in DSLR cameras and is quicker than the pure contrast detection auto-focus used in the Note 4.
Summary
Two high-end smartphones, both with their benefits. Please post why you would pick one over the other. Would the size and price of the Note 4 be a put-off and S5's reduced price but similar performance appeal?
This thread has been permitted by the moderation team, and is intend for sensible discussions comparing these two devices and their features. Any trolling or flaming will be reported to the moderation team and dealt with.
Are we sure the note 4's camera doesn't have phase detect AF as well?
