My Sony Xperia Z1 running Android 4.4.4 has a major problem synchronizing contacts with birthdays. When editing a contact which has a birthday set, synchronizing will fail.
It will only work if the contact was created on the device or the birthday itself has been changed on the device.
Scenario 1:
1) Create contact with birthday, e.g. in Outlook.
2) Sync it to the Exchange server.
3) Sync Sony Xperia Z1 with the Exchange server -> Contact will appear.
4) Try to edit contact on Sony Xperia Z1 and sync with Exchange server again.
--> Contact synchronization fails.
5) Edit contact on Sony Xperia Z1 and set birthday to another date. Then set original date again.
6) Sync Sony Xperia Z1 with Exchange server.
--> Contact synchronization successful.
Scenario 2:
1) Create contact with birthday on Sony Xperia Z1 .
2) Sync it to the Exchange server.
4) Try to edit contact on Sony Xperia Z1 and sync with Exchange server again.
--> Contact synchronization successful.
Scenario 3:
1) Create contact with birthday on Sony Xperia Z1 .
2) Sync it to the Exchange server.
3) Clear contact storage on Sony Xperia Z1 or remove Exchange account and add it again.
4) Re-sync with Exchange server.
5) Try to edit contact on Sony Xperia Z1 and sync with Exchange server again.
--> Contact synchronization fails.
6) Edit contact on Sony Xperia Z1 and set birthday to another date. Then set original date again.
7) Sync Sony Xperia Z1 with Exchange server.
--> Contact synchronization successful.
I've seen in an online fórum, which is an android issue, puts this:
I was able to resolve this issue in the Android source Exchange app by modifying EAS.java the SimpleDateFormat static method at the bottom of the class
Although google linked to Exchange Date Format in their comment they did not implement it fully. They only used 1 significant digit for milliseconds while the linked site shows three in the example. To their (google dev) credit, the documentation states these digits are optional. When I changed it to use three significant digits for milliseconds it now synchs correctly when creating a new contact with birthday on android device.
change to:
DATE_FORMAT = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSS'Z'", Locale.US);
thanks
What are the steps to edit the file and to get the change to the device?
Thanks for a short description.

Hi
I have set up my Exchange Server 2003 to use the push technology for email updates etc., on my Kaiser. All is working well, except.....
The notes field in Contacts is truncated. I desperately need my full notes when away from my office.
I have looked at the various setup options and can't see a size 'threshold' parameter.
There must be some way of getting AirSync to sync the whole contact entry including the whole notes field.
TX in advance

Hi all,
i have a problem that not all my contatcs will be synced to my smartphone. Only 40 contacts from 125 will be synced from Hotmail to the Smartphone.
Mail and Calender work fine.
If i create a new conatct for Hotmail on the Smartphone i will get only Surename and Name is this normal?
If i create a new contact in Hotmail the contact will be synced.
If i delete the 40 Contacts on my phone the contact will be deleted in Hotmail.
If i export and import the contacts new in Hotmail nothing will be synced
If i change a contact in Hotmail the contact will not be synced
I saw in my datatriffic on my phone that the phone will try to sync 25MB trffic per day.
If i deactivate contact and calender sync (only Email Push) i use only 1,0 MB per day.
I try to find were the problem is. I capture the data traffic on the router but i saw only https traffic to microsoft
Can i log something on the smartphone?
I try the solution with the Contact Editor but it did not help.
If i do complete hardreset i have the same error. On Android 2.2 all worked fine the problem exists since 2.2.1 i thought thats a bug in 2.2.1 but in 2.3.3 the problem still exists.

John
I suffer the same issue on a totally different device. Microsoft is aware of it but since December didn't fix it.
I tried. Setting Hotmail as the very first contact sync service and adding Google account without contacts sync does't work around the issue.
Hallo everybody.
I am trying to export (backup) all local contacts to a vcf file and reimport them to a calDAV location (on OwnCloud).
Export is working with the sony contacts app, import to CalDAV account crashes the app every time.
I am Using the CalDAV Sync beta free app to connect to my OwnCloud server.
After many try & error attempts I found a workaround - installed the plain Google contacts app (True Contacts from Google PlayStore, original google code for ICS extracted and compiled by Ondřej Pšenčík ) and it does the trick without any issues so I assume it is a BUG in the SONY Contacts implementation.
does any one else has experianced similar issues?
Thanks!
Hi,
I had the same problem with my Xperia Z3 Compact when importing to my CalDAV account (in my case not the free but the paid version of CalDAV Sync ap).
Thanks for your solution, it also worked for me!

I downloaded Notes For Exchange onto my Sony Xperia Z3 (Android Phone) from Google Play. I chose my exchange calendar email under Preferences - > Settings, but it does not sync with my MS Exchange Calendar.
If there is a missing component, please provide a link to the download that will work on a Android phone.
Thank you for your assistance
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum.

Hey guys,
I just want a confirmation if this problem only exists on my phone or rom. The E-Mail app from sony xperia accepts perfectly my mail account but if I setup a second the app returns to main screen (after mail account assistent completed) and displays my first mail account with a short toast message like "mail account not found! Maybe it got deleted".
Phone: Xperia Z C6603
Rom: Link: [ROM][LB/UB][5.1.1 .222][ v1.5.0 ][ Fully Featured! ] Customized Sony 5.1.1
I think this is up to the new E-Mail app from the latest update. Can someone confirm this?
Thanks!
I have exactly the same problem on my Xperia Z3 Compact (no custom rom). Did you find any fix for it?
Edit: I don't exactly know how I fixed it, but it seems that clearing the apps cache before creating a new email account helped. Also I alternated between creating the account directly in the email app and under Settings -> Accounts...

Yeah found a fix too. Adding an account manually, then add an account with automatic setup (e.g. gmail). After that you can add as much accounts manually as you want and you can delete the automatic setup account too.
I have the exact same problem.
I can add one activesync account (whichever one), but when I try to add the seccond account it just finishes without an error but I can't find it anywhere.
I've tried clearing email app cache but it didn't help.
Same here
I have working 3 email accounts.
Accidentally cleared cache & data in email app. (wakelock detector)
After that I was able to access only one account.
It passes all settings but only one stay's active.
(I have all google services disabled)
Before smashing the phone tried to re enable all google stuff.
After that (phone reboot etc..)
Now I can put how many emails I want and it work.
Now disabled google again and all 3 emails work.
