Is anyone else having issues with the battery life on their Gear Live lately? I'd say in the past 2 weeks or so the battery life has gotten absolutely awful with no reason at all. This is seriously as bad as the original Galaxy Gear at this point. When I first got my Gear Live back in June the battery would last all day easily, and I'd usually have at least 30% left at the end of the night when I stuck it on the charging cradle. Now when I get home from work it's almost always at 20%. I don't have any apps or custom watch faces on it because they all suck right now (since the SDK isn't available yet), and haven't changed my usage patterns with the watch at all since I got it. I've done factory resets, used it with other phones just to see if it's something weird with my phone, etc. Nothing helps. Anyone else having these issues suddenly? Thanks.
Kind of bad today 33% ..... may not make it home

It seems to be getting worse each day. At this point I've double checked to make sure no apps are installed on the watch and just did another factory reset of it. We'll see how it is today. This is horrible, if it doesn't improve this thing is getting sold.
It was just a bad day.
I may start turning the screen off when I am out in the sun.
Wish there was or I knew how to quickly toggle the screen on/off

Yep, would be cool if pulling down to mute also turned the screen off unless turned on manually or by gesture.
I'm having sudden battery issues as well since yesterday. Took of the charger this morning at 8 am, by 10:20 only 75%, did reset and it changed to 49%, now at 12:45 I only have 12% left. Almost zero notifications, battery stat app shows no app use. Very confused from this.
Same issue

I can't say absolutely awful, but it suddenly lasts less than half the time it usually did. I used to go two days with around 21% left when putting it to charge, since around the 24th of December, suddenly last barely a day. I find it really weird, as I am using everything the same as before. The only thing I can think of is the watch being on Android L, and the phone on 4.4.4 KitKat. This is just a theory as I have no Android L phone to test this with, that the 2 versions of Android use the Bluetooth differently and thus create a battery leak. I am not sure, I will have to wait until my Moto G gets Android L.
I am returning my watch to Google because since 2 days ago my battery dies at 4pm when it originally lasted all day and when I went to bed I still have anywhere from 20-40% left. Also my charging cradle broke and won't stick to the watch. Had to use rubber bands to charge it. I wish I hadn't bought the Samsung Gear Live because it is a piece a junk... The Asus Zen watch costs the same and is much better quality....

I thought I was alone
Mine went from going around 2 days to now about 6 hours. I
I've nuked it and my phone to no avail.
The only think that changed was I upgraded to Lolly Pop. Would love a fix for this
What a scam. If this is how they treat early adopters I'm not going to buy another
I just bought a used gear live, and my battery was terrible with almost nothing but a watch face really added. I went to the google fit app on the watch and scrolled all the way to settings and disabled it and it seems much improved already! I think the step tracking is killing the battery somehow.
So Today I had the wifi on the watch turned off and also had Google Fit turned off. Got a good bit of notifications for texts and such and used voice to replay to the majority of them. With always on screen turned on half the day and tilt to wake motion turned off all day it is at 50% and has been on about 14 hours and says it still has 14 hours left. I am pretty happy with that!
I was having battery issues at well. It got so bad that my watch wouldn't last from 8am until about 2pm. Finally I just stopped wearing it for a few weeks. Picked it up again a week or so ago and got the update. Since then battery life is back to what is expected. However, I haven't added my wifi hot spots yet.
Try the app SWapp True Dark. It allows you to lower your screen's brightness more than what is offered by default. I now get 24 hours out of my watch on a single charge and that is WITH the screen set to "always on"!

Should also remember that Li ion batteries typically have a charge life of 500 cycles or 18 months before degrading quite a bit. Some of you with older ones will start to have batteries go.

Hello all.
I bought a Nexus One in at the beginning of the year. It's not rooted and I've had no problems from it till this month. I can not say the timing is exactly this, but it seems the battery issues started just after the FRG83D upgrade. I am accustomed to using my phone for most of the day before it needs to be charged. 12 hours or more with moderate use. Since around the FRG83D update my battery is about dead in around 4 or 5 hours. I haven't changed any settings or gotten any new apps or anything for quite some time.
For example, Friday night I charged my phone to 100% and then unplugged it (to plug in my girlfriends phone) and went to bed (about midnight). At 5:15am my alarm went off, i glanced at my phone and found the batter was at 10%!! the phone had been sitting there doing nothing all night with the screen off. I checked the battery use screen and it showed cell standby and AKMD taking up all the battery (55% and 35% respectively). I should mention that I have full signal where I am and have never had an issue. I cut off the screen rotate in the settings just in case that was part of it (AKMD being the gsensor i believe).
At next full charge that day i noticed the same problem, after being at 100% my battery was down to 10% after about 5 hours, almost the entire time I didn't use the phone. This time "display" was the largest percent by far (followed by cell standby), but clicking it showed only 15 minutes of use time for the display as I had purposefully not messed with the phone much.
Last night I had to be out and a bout so I decided to test things again. Charged full and cut airplane mode on. about 4 hours later my phone was down to 20ish percent, the only use of the phone being me looking at the charge level a couple times through the night.
I installed "spare parts" app and it shows my battery as being in good health and such but who knows how reliable that is.
Anyone else having similar issues? Any suggested remediation measures? I'm considering flashing the phone and reinstalling apps and such but would rather avoid that having never done that before and not having a desire to deal with setting everything back the way I have it.
Don't know if it matters but I run LauncherPRO and I do use the friends widget but it's never seemed to really cause battery issues before. I also run the news/weather widget, but again, no previous problems.
Any help would be great
Thanks!
In the spare parts app check partial wake usage. See if any apps are not letting your phone sleep.
nothing stands out other than UID 10073 which is handcent. currently my phone is charging but I'll pop it off the charger soon and watch the battery drop time again. I should note that inbetween all the tests so far i've rebooted the device so hanging apps of any kind should be killed off...
What ROM are you using?
Are you using Extended Controls? There is an issue with that and FRG83D. Uninstall it until the dev sorts it out.
yeah i am using extended controls. i'll take it off and see what happens.
Me too
I Have exactly the same issue, also have extended controls. Uninstalled and waiting to see if that works.
Cheers for the suggestion.
That did the trick! Loss like extended controls was the problem. A shame as i really like that app. Will hope they update and fix soon. Thanks!

Yup, uninstalling fixed it for me too. Haven't seen the update though. I remember seeing an update yesterday, but I had this issue with that update so that did not fix it for me. Hope they update it again soon

I think it was updated again today. Now v5.03, and it seems to work properly.
So nobody saw Extended Controls showing up in Spare Parts, System Panel or other such programs?
Hi all
I'm new to android and am having some major issues with my Sony New xperia z.
First off stamina mode is simply not working. It did to start but it's now not changing the expected battery life when toggled on and off. That's just the start though.
Battery life had been absolutely terrible. I have been deliberately stopping myself from using the handset just so I can make it through the day.
I have come from an iPhone 4 and am quite a heavy user normally, my battery always lasted well beyond one day. New I know the screen and processor on this are awesome but I'm literally not going to be able to use any apps or anything if this is the true battery life.:crying:
I noticed that android os was taking the majority of my battery for just if today, screen has since taken over since I got in because I've been searching the net for potential answers.
Android services is up there as well. I installed a battery checker to see if my phone is but going into deep sleep for some reason and found that there had been something like 3000 wakelocks since last charge (unplugged this morning). I'm now down to 3% after about 13.5 hours since unplugged.
Screenshot was from before I started writing this post.
Any help please. If this isn't some sort of bug/fixable errorI might have to see about returning this phone!
Is this amount of wake locks normal? How can I tell what's stopping my phone from sleeping? I'm new to android other than my nexus 7 which had always been amazing in terms of battery.
Thanks all
John
Go into your Google account and disable everything from syncing expert the essentials, logout of talk etc , that should help.

Battery life is not great, but it's good for me. However, my Xperia Z is rooted and all the non-essential apps and services disabled (pretty much everything of Sony's).
Can last for a whole day from morning 8am to night 12pm, and still left about 20%. Heavy user, 5 hours screen-on time, surfing, calls, text/whatsapp, and a couple of videos for about 30min.

Hi guys
So I've charged it overnight, and this morning I've purposefully turned Stamina mode off (though the number doesn't change from 20 hours either way, Stamina mode is definitely broken on my handset!)
I've also turned off a load of location service options from within maps, as per a solution I found on a google forum (but it won't let me post the link as I'm still a noob!)
It sounds like lots of people have had similar issues with Android 4.1.2. Dare I hope that Sony release the 4.2.2 update as quickly as rumoured and that this will fix these issues!?
I'll report back in later on the battery use. So far only used 7% since being unplugged at 8:30am, and i have made a few long calls this morning (I use the phone for work as well as play )
I really haven't been using Apps all that much at all. I haven't even tried Google Talk yet. I am a games man really, so hopefully I can get the battery life sorted so I can make use of this phone to its full capability.
I don't want to disable 3G as I see this as standard operating functionality, and I usually use my phone to browse the web, check emails, check facebook, use whatsapp, stream youtube vids, everything you would expect a connected smartphone to do. I suppose what I'm saying is I don't want to disable anything that takes away from how I would actually use the handset, otherwise even if the battery lasts, its not doing what I need it to. It would be like a paperweight with a long lasting battery... pointless.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I really appreciate all the support. Fingers crossed I get a better day out of it today! Watch this space.
:fingers-crossed:
Much better today. I've had to use it for quite a few calls, watched a couple of vids and listened to a couple of tracks plus played about 4-5 levels on angry birds space. I'm at 56%remaining after 9 hours on battery. This is with stamina mode off. 1 hour 37 mins of screen time.
To be fair it's still not as good as I had hoped, but this at least means it'll likely last till bedtime with some battery remaining. I get the feeling that tomorrow it migot be even better. Also I think once the 4.2.2 update is released it will probably improve. I also get the feeling it may have improved after I opened YouTube and Google talk for the first time - almost as if android was holding its breath until I opened them. Could it have been holding out for me to open them so they could complete initial setups or something?
All this being said, after being on here for only about 5-10 minutes to write this post I'm now down to 51% all of a sudden!
Wrong thread.
Hi there, So did you manage to fix the stamina mode? I'm having the same problem. Turning stamina mode on or off doesn't change the idle time left. Though this is my second day using and only second charge.

I believe stamina mode kicks in when You switch the screen on.
On the couple of first day, when You play with Your new phone all day long with full brightness, it could run out pretty quick (less than 9 hours I had).
I got my Xperia Z on release day in UK and to be honest, I've been checking 'battery issues' threads for all day long
Two days ago, I did a proper test eg 'everyday use'. Phone battery lasted nearly two full days :good:
Basicaly I upluged Z from charger 6 in the morning and I died on me NEXT day when i sat on sofa around 8 pm watching Youtube with headphones on. So I got over 2 hours constant screen on with music before it died.
Through the rest of the time i managed to get over 2 hours of screen time, answering over 12 calls, sending loads of messages and checking facebook, xda, twitter and instagram countless times :highfive:
1 day 13 hours 24 minutes
And here is the screen time.
My stamina is set to allow gmail only, which obviously tells me if I sold anything on ebay, got interaction on any of my websites.
My screen brightness was set to automatic with slider full to the right.
Vibration when touching screen are off since day one (don't really like it )
I was worried about battery too. From thinking it is not good, I've changed my opinion to its WAY better than S and Ip5 (which i own still until i sell them on ebay). Hope this clears things up for anyone. Ohh, phone was ran to flat out once on release day, then full charge and flat 2 times before this.
Now I have to say, I absolutely LOVE THIS PHONE now!
:victory:
Is it time to try a custom rom?

Hi there - nope. Stamina mode is bust for me. I'm not bothered enough to factory reset again though. I'm still experiencing intermittent battery issues, like today for example I took it out the wall at 6:35, I'm already down to 66%. To be fair, I've watched a couple of 2-3 mins videos on Youtube, used a bit of tethering (about 5 minutes) and sent a few texts, but this is way higher than I would expect. By contrast, yesterday the battery seemed to last pretty well, but then I was working from home, so there was very little in the way of searching for signal etc.
I've contacted Sony about this, and their official line is to download PC Companion software and do a "software repair" (through their usual updating route) I'm going to probably give this a go over the weekend, but it has warned me that I might lose my data... so it might be the equivalent of a factory reset anyway.
I'm a bit sick about worrying about battery life now - getting a new handset should be exciting and I should just be enjoying the features of this superphone. Instead I'm deliberately not using it to make sure I don't run out of juice. Starting to wonder what the point in having it is.
As a newbie, I don't know much about rooting and using non-stock software - does anyone know if:
Its easy to do (I am fairly computer literate at least)?
There are custom roms I could use for the Xperia Z?
It would likely help the battery life?
Thanks again all

Well, that's me jealous as hell then! I'm going to do the software repair, as obviously I do have some issues with the battery (rather than me just being paranoid, and it being normal to get the battery usage I've been receiving)
Agreed. I just one good battery life not great. Enough to last a day with moderate-heavy usage. I don't mind charging at night. But charging every half a day is ridiculous..
Anyways I too have my stamina broken. Now i'm doing the software repair. hopefully it'll be okay. I really hope that after a few weeks the XZ can last long..

I'm hoping that when they release the Android 4.2.2 update it'll help too. I've read lots of forums about people getting poor battery life when upgrading to 4.1.2 (which the Z comes with as standard) but these being fixed when upgrading to 4.2.2. So hopefully they'll release it as quickly as the rumours suggest and this can help.
I've certainly got no battery problems whatsoever on my Nexus 7 on 4.2.2, but then its a totally different device.

Trust me even if the Stamina Mode doesn't look llike it is working there is still a big difference having it off and On, yes the phone is being woken up but still not as much as with it off.

i was having the same problem stamina mode worked fine but than for no reason it stopped and i could see the % drop before my eyes, but then i did a factory reset to the handset and it was fine after that works perfectly, def not a solution as there is no need for such a talked about feature to be so unreliable having said that after i did my factory reset i had it on 100% for 5 hours on standby with 15 min of screen time , just goes to show how awsome something is if it worked as advertised

Yeah, the factory reset worked for me too... for a day or so. Then boom, went to check it and it was doing the old 20 hours, no difference thing. Real pain the posterior.
In a funny sort of way, I'm glad that others aren't experiencing the same battery issues as me, as it confirms that its something that's not quite working right with my handset, rather than it being as its supposed to be, and hopefully a firmware release or simply doing Sony's suggested software repair will fix it.
On the other hand, it does make me feel that "Why is it always me?" feeling!
Anybody else have crazy battery drain after all the updates and the sync process? I thought the both the round LG watches were supposed to have relatively killer battery life compared to the 360, but day 1, I was at 13% after only 8 hours off the charger (screen = always on). I've just done a full reset and resync, so we'll see how day 2 goes.

It is indeed! It took a 2nd factory reset, but it seems to be performing as reasonable levels now. After about 14 hours of charger, Always On screen, WiFi on Auto and pretty heavy notification day (about 200 emails and IMs), I'm just now at 49% battery. That's more like it.
I'm pretty much convinced that a system process or two can get "stuck" when doing a version upgrade in many cases. Doing a factory reset post update seems to always fix the issue.

I'm having similar results as your first run. Was below 15% before I left work. I'm going to try to reset as well.
I had the same exact issue. The first full day I had the watch the battery completely drained in about 8 hours. All my friends at work laughed their asses off on my new watch
Well I went home charged the watch and did a full reset. Today I had the watch from 8am to about 9pm and the battery had 58% left... so definitely reset after all the updates are completed.
The reset itself took almost 30 minutes... is that normal?
Its amazing how quickly the watch charges... in about 15-20 min I had a full charge... I gather its a small battery but still nice to see that.
Yep. It took about 30 minutes for the full reset, including the time it took for all the apps to resync. It's been rock solid for the last 3 days since.
Does anyone know if the navigation battery drain has been fixed in 5.1.1? In 5.0.2 most or all of us are seeing the watch go dead after about a three hour drive.

I still have a Moto 360 on 5.0.2. The navigation battery drain issue is just one more reason I'm thinking of getting the Urbane.
Ah! Sorry... Missed that part. Sounds like 5.1.1 will probably drop before or during Google I/O, so it may be worth sticking it out to see if it helps.
Just a data point. I purchased at the opening gun which isn't long but does add some concern to fact that I've had two random battery drain events during the period. Both times were after the update and I simply recharged and the phone was back to normal battery without any reset. That is with zero apps or market faces installed or used which implies that there is something hanging the watch in the stock firmware.
At the end of the day ( 7am to 10pm) my battery gets down to about 10-15% and thats with the screen off, wifi off and brightness at level 1
I tried a factory reset and now with the same settings i get to around 35%, still an improvement but not the greatest! Any ideas on why this happening / any fixes or settings to turn off? Im thinking of doing a second factory reset as someone said above helped.
Thanks,

Honestly I think that's within the range of acceptability. I can be anywhere from 30-50% after a normal day, depending on usage. I'm convinced that the folks that get 2 full days or more on a single charge basically turn everything off and use mostly stock apps and watchfaces.
Last night, I went from about 7 AM - 1 AM and had about 25% left (always on, brightness 1, wifi auto, step tracking on, etc.). Put it theater mode for sleep tracking app to work, and by 6:45 AM I was at 21%. That's about what I'd expect from these watches at this point.

Yeah I also agree with that, its just that loads of people are saying there getting at least 2 days of use. Was wondering if there was something i was missing!
My Gear S2 operates as normal as it should, however even at idle, the battery drains rapidly. Once the unit is completely dead, I then dock it and it will say 60% charge, which I know is wrong given that the unit will not power on undocked, meaning the battery had been completely depleted. Unit charges normally but I think a bug is preventing it from reaching actual 100% since it believes 0% to be 60%. Is there a way I can fix this without tearing apart the unit or replacing the battery?
same issue
I'm having the exact same issue, did a factory reset today updated all apps still same. I use a basic watch face, turn brightness to 2, everything off except Bluetooth and can get about a day of use . Is anyone else having this issue and has a solution?
Battery dead
So update on this issue, (on the Gear App on the phones most updated version) I went to the basic watch face in gray scale, then turned off all notifications, under gear connection, I unchecked sync wi-fi profiles, and under about gear I unchecked marketing information. I'm not sure which of those if any made the difference but at the end of day one 16 hours of use I was at 70%. So on the second day I tried a colorful watch face with animations, and 16 hours in I was at 63%. So one of those changes I made may have fixed my issue.
I did uninstall and reinstall the app on the phone, as well as reset the watch itself, neither seemed to work until I did the above changes. Hopefully that will help someone, or at least help to find out what is causing the massive battery drain.

With all that I have done with my gear, most I was able to get was about 10 hours. Though today it did to something odd. It died completely like it normally does, (it dies anywhere between 3-10% ish, and when it does die, its completely dead) so I placed it on the dock. Two minutes later I check and it reports 34%, "thats odd" I think to myself so I undock it and power it up thinking I would get no more than 5 minutes battery life on it since it couldnt possibly have that much charge in two minutes. I also expected it to report a low percentage but it didnt. I placed it back on my wrist and it continues to run about 10 minutes later down to 25% and still going! I find it odd. My current leakage issue I think remains and might be why the watch doesnt last as long. I might end up getting a new battery and see. My top battery user: watch faces at ~45%, even if the face hardly came on, and I am using one with a custom background that is mostly pure black.
Drain
That does sound pretty weird. I had a custom watch face installed "Mr Time" and started with a brand new install and I'm slowly adding things back in.
I would suggest a fresh install of the phone app, and the watch, using the classic face black and white. If you can get similar results to what I have then one by one start customizing it. I tried a lot of things to get it to work, over several days and that's what worked for me. I even uninstalled all of the watch faces I want using from the app"i felt that Mr time was still running in the background, even though it probably wasn't.
Good Luck
I upgraded to a Pixel 5 because my Pixel 2 XL was experiencing hardware issues and was going to die. Among them were battery degradation that was leaving me with maybe 3 hours screen on time from a full battery.
The Pixel 5 so far has been barely better. Additionally I went to bed last night with about 79 percent battery, I woke up around 48 percent. I have no idea what's going on but this is fresh out of the box, I got it Thursday like everyone else in the USA. Is this normal? Can anyone suggest how to figure out what's causing this drain?

I loose 4% overnight. Maybe an app is running in the background. Check WiFi for poor connection or background scanning.
Sent from my Pixel 5 using XDA Labs
You might wanna FDR and start fresh. Sounds like something might be hung up from the setup. All reports about battery have been stellar so far.

I did have scanning on, so I went and turned them off. I have a Verizon variant, so I can't root. Do you have any recommendations for how to track down a rogue app or service that might be draining the battery?

I did do the setup where you transfer data from your old device. I guess maybe I need to bite the bullet and do it fresh.
Do you know anything about the... I think the setting is called Always On Display or something like that. The setting where when the phone is locked and the screen is off, it always displays the time and notification icons. I had it on my Pixel 2 and it worked great, it's almost necessary for me at this point. I have it turned on also on the 5, but it seems...finicky? At times it shuts off, especially at night. I used to keep my Pixel2 on my nightstand (just laying flat, not on a stand or anything) and the time would be on all night so I could see it at night if I woke up. With the 5 it seems to shut off in the dark. Additionally periodically during the day it sometimes all of sudden jumps to really high brightness, then back down to dim, sometimes it turns off completely and I have to hit the power button or the fingerprint reader to unlock the phone. Even doing the tap to wake doesn't work. Actually that double tap to wake doesn't seem to work at all regardless.
Any info on any of those issues you know about? I've been searching around and I've found basic references to some stuff with that always on display but no direct threads or anything specific.

Not too sure about AOD, I just went with defaults. But last night, my first with the P5, I unplugged at full charge and 7 + hours later it was at 100%. That's never happened but it was face down and on DND. Nonetheless, check out this thread, download the app, non root needs certain permissions, and let it run for a day or so. It should show you what you need to know.

Did you make sure to charge the phone to 100% before using it??? These lithium ion batteries need to be charged to the max if you want them to last. My pixel 5 wasn't even fully charged it was somewhere around 65% out of the box. I would leave it charging for a half hour or so once it hits 100% just to be sure.

That's incredible. Next time include all 3 screens please. I could get 12 hours of on screen time all on wifi. Let's see you get that on 5G.
Real world battery is best.
I'm seeing great battery life like many others.
I started using AccuBattery Pro. How accurate is the estimated capacity given by the app? Anyone have any experience?
For me the app is estimating battery capacity to be 4,490mAh which is obviously way above the advertised capacity.
Coming from a worn out pixel 2xl this 5 is fabulous the battery is great. I accidentally left the flashlight on for an hour and it barely drained it. The battery is exceeding my expectations. Screen on time at 5 hours and I'm just at 49% with 10 hours remaining. I'm satisfied for sure
Also on Verizon, but no issues for me. Battery life has been amazing, I didn't charge last night (unintentional) and I was going until this afternoon, with mostly light usage. I've never experienced something like that before.
So in case anyone is interested in this, I actually have a hardware defect that was discovered by a user on reddit.

The gist is that the proximity sensor is (i think) detecting that something is up against it all the time. This creates issues with things such as the phone screen not turning on when you pull the phone away from your ear when on a phone call, Issues with tap to wake and lift to wake not working, and Ambient display/always on display (whatever it's called now) constantly changing brightness and/or shutting the display off completely. Literally the phone could be sitting there on the table and all of a sudden the always on display goes to max brightness, then down to dim, then up, then shut off completely. I assume all this craziness is hitting the battery hard.
I am trying (although frustratingly) to get Verizon to exchange it for a new phone. My phone acts exactly like in that thread. There's a proximity sensor app that will detect when something is near it and change color. Mine is solid colored and won't change unless you press on the glass near the sensor. Just in case anyone else has this issue come up, there it is.
I'm at 5 hours of screen on time and 17 hours use. The battery is exceptional and I can dedicate more time to work online because of it.
It sounds like you have ported a troublesome app over from your old phone to be honest. I think a factory reset would fix it.

Mine says 3,900mAh and hasn't changed for two weeks, which irritates me. Battery life is... okay.
Curious
I'm losing apprx. 6-10% while I sleep. seems a little excessive compared to other testimonies. I have to usaul social media apps, messeging apps no gaming, no AOD.
Any insight is appreciated.
I aslo did the FR with copying from older phone as suggested in the thread.

I just finally got my replacement last night from Verizon. Too early to tell if it fixed my battery issues because I had to set everything up and such. But If you have those issues, I would get a replacement. That's a faulty phone.
