Hi I always had adaway as ad block. But it seems not working. I see the ads in different apps and there's no adfree version of the app. So is there a better app to block the ads?
It's working fine on .108. You must have root to use it.
Of course I have root. But as I said in some apps it doesn't take ads away.

Maybe because they didnt update to support "ad away" for new ads and ads provider. Try to update it regulary.
It's updated.
Try MoAD (Mother of Ad-block)
It's on XDA....

I tried them all; adfree, adaway, adblock + and nothing seems to block ads.
Had the issue with 4.2.2 and now with 4.3. There are ads in the browser and all the apps.
I have root and downloaded hosts file, tried the web server option and nothing works.

Wifi or 3g?
On 3g is network dependent, if your operator is using a proxy then adaway will not work.
Just check with wifi and you are right there are no ads.
I guess theres nothing that can be done with lte
1. tip:
install elixir2 and deactivate for every app activities e.g. with following names:
.ad.
.google.analytics.
.advert.
...
2. tip:
install xposed framework, then download the modules "youtube adaway" (blocks ad on youtube) and "xod" (blocks a lot of google ad in many apps)
3. tip:
use dolphin browser and activate the option called something like "show flash-content only when clicked on", like this no flash-based ad will be shown/loaded during surfing
With these quite simple tips most ad I would ever see on my phone is vanished and won't drain battery etc.
Btw. see my thread about battery life, if you want more info on these tips (because i included the mentioned 3 with more details in my thread)
Thanks dolphin works great and I see no ads.
Also installed the xposed modules since the YT ads bugged me the most, to lazy for the elixir2 though, it's good enough like this.
You have some good advice in your thread, I already do most of it, what I need anyway.
This is an awesome add blocker...

If anyone is having the same issue, try to leave the apn proxy blank.
I'm on bell and it works, I get a connection and there are no ads.
Adblocker apps (hosts) not working...
I m on Stock 4.4.4 rooted XT1068..
Tried AdAway , Adblock Plus, Adfree, Manual Hosts... nothing works... where as when trying apps they say Ads are being blocked.. but i can see all ads.. pop ups, splash screens, and browser ads.. all are still there....
Anyway to block all ads on this phone...... without the firewall because i dont want to turn off the connectivity of any particular apps... cause there are many online apps.. i just want to block ads...
Help if possible...
Thanks....
Try adguard, its best. It was on google play but they removed it from play store once they found its blocking all ads. http://adguard.com/en/welcome.html
Ps: If you just want to block browser based ads, use firefox and download ad block addons. It works good, you wont get a single popup.
Xt 1068 stock rooted.
I use AdAway, and it works great. If you try it, don't forget to reboot after download and apply hosts.
Just the nature of mobile devices - and the ever changing and lucrative ad market. Pretty much, best way to reduce ads is be careful what you install, and stick to trusted sites.
Download the hostfile from adaway. Then use a fileexplorer and go to system/etc and look for the hostfile. Change permission to rw-rw-rw. That works, had that problem too [emoji6]
I don't know why, but adblock doesn't appear to do anything at all when I give it root access, so I had to deny it root permission and then configure the proxy. However I can't figure out how to do this for the t-mobile network.
Has anybody been able to get adblock to work universally? And no I don't want to use adaway as that stops some websites from working (namely slickdeals.net when you click on the deal links.)
No.
Use adaway and read the thread on how to set up your white list.
If not the answer is no
BAD ASS NOTE 4
Adaway all day. Never had to set up a list.
Just had to stop using adfree.
Slickdeals working here.
Adaway latest
Clicked on the deals
bought the stuffed animal and everything
Ive used adfree android on all of my phones for ad blocking and has always worked. Its not on the appstore but google adfree android and it should be one on the first links. Its by bigtincan
Thank you Erick.
I've got adfree working here, now.
I've used it for many moons, as well.
I think the site may have been down the other day.
Couldn't get an apk that would install just a day or two ago.
It's working, now.
I'll double check it's not blocking websites:
With slickdeals and adaway the trick was to visit the site twice cause it looks shady to ad blockers cause it's arguably a shady site.
The 2nd time adaway looks at it it can see its a real website.
Adfree website:

I know most people use either adaway or adfree. Does anyone use ad block or minminguard from. Xposed?
MinMinGuard doesn't seem to work for Chrome even after manually adding it to the list, but works with other apps. Haven't tried adaway or adfree though.

Minminguard is supposed to block ads in the apps whereas adaway blocks in Chrome. Looks like minminguard has blocked quite a bit of ads in my apps however I think it may be interfering with some.
The app is no longer available in the playstore. What is everyone using to uninstall bloat now?
That is very bad news. Why would Google do this ? And the BK Samsung debloat app is still up ?
This LG Package Disabler is a must have for this phone.
umm, can google remove apps just like that...
Last i recall, i paid for that app... and now it just vanish?
No mention of it removing purchase, now I cannot even find it in purchase history, so did they just remove the app along with purchase history and no refund??
You can still remove apps via adb. There have been a couple other posts on regarding how to and a quick search should reveal them.

Wow. I just jumped from Windows mobile to Android. I got the insurance company assurion to replace my 950 with a V30 (for the price of my $150 deductible). I had downloaded the package disabler app and it works great. One thing I miss about windows mobile is the ability to delete any bloatware you want and move entire apps to the sd card - not just the ancillary portions of an app.
I still have the app installed and found a contact email address in the app. I sent an email asking what happened. If I get a reply, I'll share the info.
Any update from the developer on still being able to get the app?
Damn, I was JUST about to jump on this bandwagon and give that app a shot, and now it's been pulled. Argh! Thank Odin I'm no stranger to ADB. Command Line, here we come!

How do you use the ADB & command line to manually do this process?
I paid for the app and now it has been removed from the store. I guess i will just have to get the APK elsewhere...

You can't post warez links for paid apps.
6. Do not post or request warez.
If a piece of software requires you to pay to use it, then pay for it. We do not accept warez nor do we permit members to request, post, promote or describe ways in which warez, cracks, serial codes or other means of avoiding payment, can be obtained or used. This is a site of developers, i.e. the sort of people who create such software. When you cheat a software developer, you cheat us as a community.

BE AWARE: Malware probably lurks in such pirated apps, so no one should download them before a mod removes the links.

This paid app was discussed in depth, and reasons why it was probably removed from Google Play store. But also alternate methods were discussed on how to remove bloatware.

If this was intended for me, then no. The devs have not responded to my email.
They have some version of Package Disabler available for purchase on their website (which is linked to in the LG Package Disabler "About" option). I'm just not willing to try the purchase right now. It seems kind of suspicious to me. The website seems to have some malfunctions (possibly because they're still linked to their Play pages which have now been removed.)
Oh guys, be careful when disabling apps. I had huge lag after disabling some of it using adb. No lag after apps are enabled again.
This is exactly what I want to know too. I'm wondering why it was even removed from the Play Store all together. I need it lol
Play on words
"so no one should download them before a mod removes the links."
So its only ok to use them after the mod removes the link...
/sarcasm
I used BK Package Disabler from the play store. Works better than LG Package Disabler, as it does not require you to install apk. Just a ADB command line from a computer to setup.
Just saying, I currently have not disable anything. The phone runs so much better without disabling stuff... Consider that I use VPN, chromecast and Google home, disabling stuff always seems to mess something up.

Agreed. I haven't disabled anything and I use AdGuard VPN to block ads. Phone run very smoothly and very fast. I'm a big proponent of rooting (and I will root this phone), but I'm very wary of messing something up -- unintentionally causing lag because something is missing.
It is really strange that we have horrible lag after disabling some apps. Same thing on G6 and V30. After debloating Galaxy device, it's much easier to breathe for me and my phone. Here one the LG phone it is opposite.
Hmm guys.. 'Disable HW Overlays' option under developer options fixed all that horrible lag issues with my LG G6 and V30. Now it is smooth like Pixel phone when scrolling through web pages and apps like Instagram, Facebook etc.
This isn't permanent fix unfortunately. What should we do? Why is this happening? This option solve all stutter/lag/touchLatency problems with my LG devices. What can we do? LG won't fix this. I had the same problems in the era of the LG G2 and G3
