Issue with stock keyboard - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Loving the new phone. Installed the sensor update and now my Google keyboard won't show up properly. It is black. I can hit keys and it picks them up but I can't see anything. I downloaded swift key and set that as my default keyboard and it working. Anyone else having this issue? I disabled the Google keyboard and re enabled it already. Thanks in advanced for your help.

Clear cache and data?

That's crazy. I posted a android L keyboard in apps. Maybe you can try that to see if any keyboard shows up. I would do what he posted above me too.

Cleared cache and data and it works now!! Thanks a ton. It was the strangest thing. I am gonna get the L keyboard. Loved it on my old G2. Thanks again.

Yea I really like the material design on the L keyboard myself. I only even used a htc sense keyboard an the L one is way better. To me anyways.

Tips to speed up my phone?

So I am running fresh, and I love it, 2.1 is awesome, but I can't stand the keyboard lag. Turning off optic doesn't help me that much and everything else is off. So my question is, dies anybody have tips for me to speed my phone up? Short of course of overclocking my phone? Also I love and use sense. Thanks in advance!

Some people will say use swype, some will say they don't have lag, some will say no matter what you do there will be lag, some will say "Why didn't you do a search for this"
Do a search in the forum and you will find plenty of threads with possible solutions.
I get very little lag.
Download auto killer, set it to the most aggressive setting and try it out. You can always adjust it from there.
Keeping free memory up helps a ton.

^^these suggestions are good ones, but ive noticed that unless im using JIT, the keyboard lag never truely goes away.

i know this is just a suggestion and ull get a ton of these but im using the original aosp keyboard with no voice to text or anything and get next to no lag. i think its the voice to text that is messing everything up. do a searcvh and find it and try it
i have found a solution to everyones problems, try this keyboard out in the market called thickbuttons it doesnt lag at all and its freakin sick
Yeah I've done the searches and tried all the fixes/ suggestions. I will try the thinkbuttons thing, but I don't like swype. Anyways, I'll look into enabling JIT on fresh, I haven't done that since I was on Darchdroid. Thanks alot! Any other tips for speeding things up? Does a2sd speed the phone up?

Only if you're SDcard is faster then the phones ROM, in which case it will make loading them faster.

on that note i have a question...How can i remove my app2sd, till i get a better chip? my hero was flying till i installed it on my stock chip. Now i need to undo, so what reformat? got to b an easier way??
I think you can make an EXT backup, but I'm not sure how to do it short of manually taking everything from /system/sd/app and moving it to /data/app

Hit up Damagecontrol 2.08.1, he included a new lighter keyboard that doesn't lag anywhere near as bad, the only real problem is the fact that the vibration feedback is sometimes messy, but I just turned it off. Otherwise it types like a dream.
Also, Damageless is customizing that latest 2.1 leak that came from Sprint, and in 2.08.1 there's DCUpdater, which allows you to update directly from the phone itself without a complete wipe. I strongly recommend it, it's got what you're looking for and more.

Sorry bro, but thick buttons has such a terrible learning curve. If you stare while typing, sure it works. But if you type faster than you can process what key gets larger, it isn't for you.
Do you have lag anytime you use the keyboard, or just when sending texts?
I know I had bad lag with the stock KB and the HTC MMS app.. but I have since switched over to the AOSP Mms.apk, and I have no lag in it at all.
Sorry to budge in, but I have had the same problem for a while now, I love the layout and prediction of the HTC keyboard (XDA) but the lag is annoying. For a while I used the AOSP mms.apk and all was well, but I couldn't send pic messages, let alone view them.
Is there a way to get around that and still have AOSP?

I use the AOSP Mms.apk on RegawMOD. Works just fine. Try repushing?
It hasnt been re-released yet, but I love TouchPal. You can still find the apk on rapidshare or hit me up and I can send it to you. You can turn off haptic feedback and make it scream and it has all the functionality of the HTC keyboard and then some.

Load up Zen's latest ROM - I kid you not - any questions?
I finally have no lag. I have no lag period even when I run pandora. I run purehero with the regular htc.ime. that was one of my main goals in finding a faster rom.

As long as you are using it on a low res screen like the hero, the attached apk should work. If you need it for something higher res like the droid, I think I have the APK at home. There are a lot of settings for this, so play around until you find a set that works. I suggest turning of the haptic feedback because that seems to slow down all keyboards on the hero.

Stock Android Keyboard?

Anyone know if there is any way to get the stock android keyboard on this thing? I can type a lot better on that than I can on the htc keyboard.

do you mind posting the apk?
I believe you'll need root for it to work properly. Its a system .apk file which means it'll have to be in the system part of the phone. Especially if you pull it from a ROM like CM.
For those who may not know root gives you that access...Jamezelle will be releasing that tomorrow anyways. ...well today lol

You do not need root to use the gingerbread keyboard, just search 'gingerbread keyboard' in market theres a free and a paid version. Ive only tried the free one and it works great!
Go into the settings and check your settings for the Keyboard, this keyboard is much better than the stock one.
There were a couple of versions of the Gingerbread keyboard floating around. One of which had bugs. I'd greatly appreciate someone posting the .apk for the working one.
Just tried both renamed Gingerbread keyboard on my TB and got FCs. Bummertown!
I have one that works for me. Also, the Gingerbread skin for Better Keyboard is excellent. I'll dropbox the apk and edit this post with the link.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2037686/gingerbreadkeyboard.apk Works on my rooted TBolt
Just thought I'd add in that I tried the multitouch keyboard from be Droid X/2 with no success.

Yeah, It's kinda strange. I pulled LatinIME.apk for cm 6.1( just because I prefer that keyboard) and had no but fc's. Didn't matter if I installed it or dropped it in /system

What do you mean it doesn't do anything? You can't get it to display or what?
You just open up a text. Long press in the box to start typing, Hit Input method. Then select "gingerbread keyboard"
There is a version of the Gingerbread keyboard in the market that seems to work well.

[Q] My keyboard hides randomly

I am using Swiftkey Tablet, but it happens with the default samsung keyboard as well.
I will be typing an email or filling in a text box or something and as I am typing the keyboard hides. I end up pressing a button or link instead of the next letter. It happens on random letters, no pattern.
It is driving me crazy. I love my Note but this makes me hate it. Today I sent a half a sentence to someone important.
I am on stock samsung ICS and I think it's been ongoing since the first ICS over the air update.
Does no one else have this issue? please let me know. especially if you are on ICS stock and using swiftkey.
ics and SwiftKey NOT tablet mode. don't face this issue. Try clearing the data of app in settings-applications and download the language pack again.
If not try the normal swift key once and check
Actually, my girlfriend's Hercules does the same thing a fair amount. As does my mom's Kindle fire and my sister's vivid. Think it is an ics out of memory thing, but I might be wrong.
Apple innovates and Samsung copies, huh? Tell that to my Galaxy Note.

No change. I cleared the data for switkey 3 tablet, uninstalled it and installed (and purchahsed) the other swiftkey but I still have the same issue.
It even happened while i was Swyping. I know it's an ICS/Samsung issue. I hope to find a place to report bugs like these for Samsung.

this is the only one i found.. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwxLDEsImplbGx5YmVhbmtleWJvYXJkLmYuZyJd
it works however it doesnt strech the keys as much as it should be. if anyone has another version thats better please let me know as im also interested!
You may have to copy the APK to /system/app/ and reboot your phone. You'll have to be rooted, of course.
My other suggestion is to try TouchPal, even if Swype isn't your thing. It's a free keyboard, so you don't really have anything to lose trying it.

After system upgrade/update there is no keyboard

I did a system update yesterday ota. and ever since then the keyboard will not come up when i go to text anything anywhere.
google voice still works and in language/imput settings it is there and checked but shaded out and unable to select or not
default is selected as the LG keyboard.
thanks for all the replies, so many to look into the response is over-whelming lol.
I installed swift keyboard from the play store and its letting me use that. but still really weird that after a os update the LG keyboard stops working

Did you go to update center and see if it's still installed or up to date?
