Heya,
Just thought you guys should know... The Z3 Compact doesn't have gapless playback in Google Play Music. Albums that play gaplessly on my Moto E and Nexus 4 simply don't on my Z3 Compact. A real shame, as this is a huge dealbreaker for me and I'll have to return an otherwise brilliant phone.
Just in case there are others out there who care about gapless playback as much as I do (I doubt it).
If anyone knows of a way to fix this, I'm definitely all ears.
Wow you're sending back a fabulous phone for that? With the SD card slot option can't you store music locally and use a 3rd party app for gapless play.
That's finicky. But each to there own. Good luck
I have no idea what gapless playback is meant to sound like so I'm not sure if this is working for me. While messing around with build.prop settings, I found an property called audio.offload.gapless.enabled. Using adb I set this to true with adb shell setprop audio.offload.gapless.enabled true
I presume this has given me gapless playback but as I say, I have no idea what it's meant to sound like.

Right. Not 100% I think its working then. Quite a few of my songs are quiet down at the end so it's difficult to tell if it's the song tailing off or if a gap is actually present

tilal6991 you are a Legend!!!!! I did what you did and went to the build.prop and found audio.offload.gapless.enabled=false and changed it to true and it worked flawlessly!!!! So for anyone reading this who has especially a rooted Z3 compact, do what tilal6991 did and it will bring gapless playback back!!!!!
Thanks a lot!!!

If you can survive while waiting for the device to get rooted. Then you won't have to unlock your BL for root.

99% certain.
You only need to unlock your BL if you want to use another kernel, it's just a matter of time. So far I can't re-call a phone that was uncrackable (aka couldn't get rooted)

No, unfortunately you cannot do it without root because you have to access the build.prop. However, you can unlock bootloader and root without loosing camera functions. Have a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/orig-development/d58xx-cwm-based-recovery-6-0-4-7-root-t2890231.
I have obviously done this already and my phone is going really well. Camera works perfectly. :good:
To be honest you'd have thought this would have been an option for the Walkman software 'Gapless play on/off Can't Sony be contacted with a request for this?
I use GoneMAD Music player for gapless playback right now. Will be happy to change this setting once unlocked root is available.
GoneMad is working for me with gapless playback, as does PowerAmp. As a complete Android novice, how easy would it be to access the settings to enable gapless playback in all software? Would be able to follow guides etc if they could be signposted.
As an alternative to this issue, I did some more digging and might have found a solution.
I had two mixed albums that were now playing gaplessly on the Sony Walkman software, or on the free version of Rocket Player (my current alternative music player). I have converted the to OGG format and they're now playing on both the Walkman app and Rocket Player gaplessly.
Bit of hassle to convert them, but there are automated converters out there.

So Google Play Music is one of my favorite android apps, i use it daily and i never really had many issues with it until i got note 3.
Like usual i just plug in my headphones and start listing to music. the problem is that sometimes after 1 song sometimes after 2, the next song is playing but there is no audio. I try to switch tracks and same thing.
Couldn't figure out what it was, i removed the headphones and plugged them back in and the audio started playing again. Tried skipping to the next song, and no audio again.
Does anyone have the same issue or knows how to fix it? I've updated the app to the latest version but i still have that issue. I tried removing the updates and same thing. Can't remove the app completely since the note is not rooted and i am not planning on rooting it just yet since the security in Knox gets triggered and voids the warranty.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!
Figured it out, it was the built in EQ. Once disabled , everything worked. Now i have to find an aftermarket eq that supports google music

I now presume you simply disabled the eq in the Google Play Music app. Here is a complete solution to fix the EQ bug.
So i did some searching on google specifically for the equalizer, and this issue is a problem across many galaxy devices. I do not have the link but basically the stock equalizer needs to be disabled.
0. Get the replacement equalizer for Google Music called "equalizer" (only equalizer)
Disable Stock Equalizer:
1. Go to settings
2. Go to device
3. go to sounds
4. go to music effects
5. Select "Equalizer" instead of "Music FX"
I have been using viper4android on my Note 3. I had been using volume+ before I got my N3.
Viper is VERY good and has a tonne of settings.
The only bad thing is that it has little hiccups where the music fades out for a moment and then comes back. I don't like the hiccups, but still worth using to me.
Oops, meant to say I mostly use Google Play Music. It also works with Pandora and most everything else I have tried with viper.
I had this problem (stock, no root) and the equalizer was not turned on. The ATT OTA seems to have fixed my audio issues.

While on the subject, when I use Bluetooth audio in the car, the samsung player automatically plays instead of google music. I have selected google music player as the default but the samsung player always starts to play. I am not able to deactivate the samsung player app. Is there another work around to not let it play at all?

That doesn't seem to work for me. Only way it controls it at all is if I start playing the music on the phone first, which is rather annoying. Am I doing something wrong?

Also works perfectly with BubbleUPNP.
I use my phone as the renderer and my tablet as my interface/playlist when driving and I can use my watch to skip/volume/etc.

yes, that is how it is working for me as well.
The best solution i have found is to freeze the stock samsung music app with something like titanium or rom toolbox. Granted you need to be rooted for this but it works perfect for me. I workout with a set of lg tones and control everything from my gear. I can confirm it also works to start music from the gear rather than opening google play music first.
.Create a module to disable audio focus
So that me can watch sports and listen to music or play games listing to music.
Many games support this. But good games don't (pogo)

Hi all
I'm using PowerAMP Beta 709 for listening music, LG Music player is decent for me, PowerAMP can resampling up to 384Khz, but on LG V30 it's not working when i choose resampling to 384Khz, its just back to 44.1Khz.
Only 44.1~352.8Khz is working, i tought it's bug in PowerAMP but NOT, LG forgot some line or intentionally not adding 384khz in 24bit Direct PCM. So i fix that.
Every Music player that use flag Direct PCM can use 24bit 384Khz now without going back to 16bit 44.1Khz ofcourse if there music app that support 32bit 192/384Khz will also work if using flag direct pcm 32bit
Requirements :
1. Unlocked Bootloader
2. TWRP installed
3. Root
How to install?
1. Just flash with TWRP or
2. Extract and put to system/vendor/etc and change permissions to 0644
Hi thanks for the mod
Got one question about how sound works on a v30.
I usually listen to songs like 24/96 or higher or sometimes the mqa from tidal, the question is will the viper4android downsample my songs? As I saw on all devices I had it installed that drive status reports 44kHz sampling rate even when I was playing hi-res music.

I'm never try V4A but yeah your song is downsampling, maybe V4A doesn't support or use direct pcm or even snapdragon 24bit offload so its still use Open SL ES 16bit 44.1khz for output.
Maybe someone has better answer than me, cause i never try V4A.
Hi, will give this a try but how to undo if something is not right ?
Tried a loudness mod recently and had hissing in quiet parts so had to revert

Just open the zip file and see for yourself which and how the files are modified. It's just a quick edit of both instances of audio_policy_configuration.xml. It could be edited by hand, same as with the high impedance mod.
Kudos to the OP for the useful tip !
I'd like to test if LG has fixed this issue on stock Oreo with the July update. I have a library full of FLAC music files; so the next step would be to install PowerAMP and select 384kHz? I'll edit this post with results.
EDIT: US99820D (July stock ROM) has the bug. Flashing the fix resolves the issue as revealed by PowerAMP beta. I did notice though that having the "Enhanced" DAC preset enabled introduces intermittent static noises in certain songs. It doesn't bother me, since I keep it at "normal" and set the digital filter to "short." Very nice sounds with Sennheiser HD558.
Thank you @Rizal Lovins for the fix !

I sadly cannot get this fix to work things still only play 352.8, when I try to get it to sample fully to 384 it jumps down to 192. This fix just seems to do nothing sadly. Trying with USB Audio Player Pro
Im having trouble with the Dolby app, when I active dolby the sond decreases about 15-20% and with headphones you can change the EQ 3notches.
It also changes the default EQ in Google music for example to the Dolby version were you cant increase the bass in the EQ. Is the some workaround for this? Or does anyone else experience the same thing?

Switch off volume leveller if on. In my case with the option on it lowered Bluetooth audio streaming considerably...
I personally installed ViPER4Android and totally switched off Dolby, since I find V4A much more enhanced and can be fine tuned to one's liking. Problem is that while streaming through Bluetooth, it's really inconsistent and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But if you're mainly using a wired headset, I suggest you give it a go...
Yes I understand, but I just got it dosen't jag want to root it yet! Viper is one of the best things along with xposed to Android(vanilla of course) but I hope someone can remove the restrictions for headphones in the Dolby app, if I coymuld I would. Best reegards Pierre Gothenburg Sweden det

Dolby itself is not the problem but did you attempt to turn off volume leveling or not?
xposed is nice but there are much better options out there. To my knowledge xposed still reverts art back to dalvik and decreases performance quite considerably imo.
You can either try volume boosting apps on the play store or you have to root. If rooted you can either use Viper, or modify system file (mixer something xml - I forgot the name of the file) to boost the volume.
Just because the device is new doesn't really factor in to if you should root or not, imo, unless the root solution is not stable which is not the case here. You can always unroot later and if for some reason you reach a point where you can't uninstal root, you can attempt to send the device back to Moto and hope you get a replacement.

If by "it complains" you mean the warning you get when you raise the volume too much, it's there on purpose to avoid damage to your ears. If I'm not mistaken, the only way to disable that is through root and xposed...

All restrictions are to avoid damage to your ears, that's why you can change things to higher values on speakers but not on headphones... You would have to root to have full control over this.

You can do several things with and without root:
No root: disable headset limitations guide - https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.**********.com/disable-safe-volume-warning-no-root-required/amp/
With root: Install V4A app and set it up to your liking, or don't and just use Dolby but disable limitations with an xposed module. You can find several guides on XDA or through Google.
As for V4A working with Art or Dalvik, I'm no expert and don't understand what difference this may make regarding audio quality, but I can tell you V4A works perfectly fine with a headset on my G6+, as well as on several of my other older devices, too. Only issue is Bluetooth streaming which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, depending on which audio device you're connecting to, but I can live with that...
