[Q] Forgotten pattern lock - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, I wanted to ask that how can I remove the pattern lock on my friend's xperia z she forgot her pattern after changing it and she don't even remember her gmail id & password. I know most probably its going to be hard reset but is it compulsory to hard reset the phone with pc companion or is there another way from the phone itself like recovery mode? The phone is not rooted.
And how to get the data back after hard rest?
Thanks.

There's no way but to reset it. Use either pcc or flashtool.

Alright then hard reset it is.
But is there anyway to recover the data after resetting the phone.
Thanks.

Try doing it with flashtool and uncheck wipe data. It might work

It is still downloading. If you have a .ftf file you can skip it and try it with flashtool.

Hi,
I cannot find any details how to unlock. The forum just have thanks .
I have Galaxy S2 with too many pattern lock attempts. So now it's asking for gmail account details but I have data disabled . so need help

Hey,
i have a similar problem. A friend of mine, who is not the smartest with technical devices, forgot his Lock Pattern and his gmail adress.
I would Hard Reset ,but he stored all his Phone Contacts and Pictures of the last year exclusively on the Phone.
The Phone is a Xperia Z C6603 in complety Stock conditions (Bootloader locked, No Root).
ADB Debugging is off.Wlan is off. Mobile data connections are activated.
Is there any possibility to bypass the lock pattern without hardreset and in best case without unlocking the bootloader/voiding the warranty?
I thought about something like:
Boot a costum recovery via fastboot:
fastboot boot recovery.img
To get a recovery with enabled adb or a filemanager to delete or extract gesture.key
1.Is this possible under these circumstances?
2.Would it otherwise be possible to extract the data form the phone?
The Phone contacts would be more important. The Pictures would be nice to have
Many thanks in advance.

You can't use fastboot until you unlock your phone bootloader (/your friend's, whatever).
And even if you are concerned about doing this, you will need to make a TA backup, unless you'll erase all your DRM keys during unlock proccess, in the result you'll not be able to re-lock bootloader with DRM keys. They will be forever gone. To avoid this, you have to backup TA partition. And the most sadly part is that to do that, you need to enable USB debugging Unfortunately, to do this either, you need to unlock your screen D
Tell your friend that he has only 2 choises:
1. Unlock bootloader and then flash system.img (but you'll erase your DRM keys, it will result in Bravia Engine, Walkman and other functions not working and/or etc.)
2. Completely remove all data and restore phone (Hard-Reset, as you already said, you can perform this action by using PC Comapion).
However, I don't know any other alternative way's.

This is Xperia Z forum. Check your phone section to find correct solution.

Hey LaurynasVP,
thank you very much for your fast answer.
Just to not talk at cross-purposes:
When you say I can't use fastboot with looked Bootloader did you mean only the fastboot flash recovery.img command (not fastbood boot recovery.img ) or fastboot at all.
If I can't use fastboot at all ,choosing Select Kernel to Hotboot in Flashtool wouldn't work neither?

This device doesn't have a recovery partition, so using fastboot to flash a recovery isn't possible at all.
Most fastboot commands aren't allowed until you unlock the bootloader. The /data partition is wiped when unlocking the bootloader, so that obviously isn't an option for you, being that you want to recover data from the device. I also believe that hotbooting a boot.img or recovery.img is not possible on this device either.
Your friend should try to remember/recover their Google account credentials as that is the only way they will get their data back.

[Q] Boot-Up Issue, Unrooted, Please help

Woke up today after using my phone to set an alarm last night...and my phone was shutdown (plugged in).
I tried starting it up, and the phone wouldn't boot past the white HTC startup screen. Since then I've tried booting up several times, including using volume down button, and then clicking fastboot, but the screen just goes black and nothing happens. Effectively I'm stuck at the start-up screen.
My phone is only a couple months old, and is not rooted. Also since I have not attempted anything fancy, I have not yet backed up any of my data, photos, etc. The only advice I've had so far is to do a factory reset, but this would erase important videos, which I really don't want to loose.
Does anyone have suggestions on things to try to either somehow backup my data before a reset, or to fix this issue?
Thanks,
Bill

I am noob at this. my phone is unrooted, so my bootloader is locked. How do I run the erase cache command as you suggested? I've spent sometime looking for a forum telling me how, but have not found anyting... presumably i need software for my pc and connect the phone to it, or should there be some menu on the phone i can get to, to type in the command?

you will need to have fastboot/adb tools installed on your computer ----> HERE
and you'll need latest HTC drivers installed. This can be done by installing HTC sync software you can find HERE
start with this, ill update this post with more instructions
reboot phone in bootloader mode (hold down POWER + VOL DWN)
you will have a screen similar to this

select ''FASTBOOT'' (use volume up/down to navigate and power button to select)
then connect phone to computer (better to use a usb port at the back of your computer and don't use any usb hub)
The screen should now display ''FASTBOOT USB''' and the phone should be recognized by your computer.
Now open adb/fastboot tool by clicking on ''Minimal ADB and Fastboot'' icon
it will open a cmd prompt like this:
type these cmds:
Code:
fastboot erase cache [COLOR="Red"]<------- press ''enter''[/COLOR]
fastboot reboot [COLOR="red"]<------- press ''enter''[/COLOR]
now the phone will reboot
check if the phone is now booting properly.
btw no need to unlock the bootloader and root your phone atm

Yes phone is correctly recognized. Honestly its the first time I see that ''erasing error''.
You might want to try factory reset your phone... but it will wipe all your data.
Your phone is only a couple months old... still under warranty?
Btw factory reset is step #1 when you call htc cus.ser.

yes as @SaHiLzZ said, factory reset won't wipe the internal sdcard partition where your photo and video are stored. It will wipe /data partition where your users settings and app are stored. so you should not lost your media files.
The other options will require unlocking bootloader which will void your warranty. So if your phone is still under warranty better to get it repaired or replaced instead.

I hope you all are correct. I spoke with HTC about sending in my phone for repair, and they said that since HTC One phones don't have an external or removal SD card...just internal memory, that all my photos/files/etc will be lost in the factory reset. Perhaps this discrepancy is in the model or type of HTC One?
Thanks,

[Q] Please help savage my Z1

So the other day I confirmed for an OTA update for my Z1. Little did I know, 3 seconds and an auto shut down later, I would end up with my Z1 being stuck in a bootloop with no access to recovery mode.
I really need help on getting my Z1's internal memory (photos, notes, contacts) extracted. I tried a few of the local repair shops and they said that the data inside is corrupted.
I've try ADB but it says "permission denied" whenever I try getting in the storage>sdcard. Probably due to me putting a swipe pattern lock screen on it.
So if there's any hope at all, I'm willing to even disassemble it if that could even help.
I've not rooted it but I do believe the bootloader is unlocked.
- I should also mention I'm a real amateur at this stuff so please be very patient and specific with the instructions. Thanks!
Try using this guide: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/how-instal...z3-z2-devices-via-xperifirm-flashtool-1492498
it's for updating your os with flash tool just use an ftf file for z1. And in the final stage of the update untick the 3 wipe options and this should save your data.

i'm not totally sure this will work, depends on how much your memory is ruined. If it was just an installation of your os error this should reinstall an updated os without erasing data. first try other methods for saving your data and if you won't find any, try this one
btw, in the picture i posted i didnt untick those 3 wipe options, don't forget to untick them else you'll wipe your memory!!!

1. try flash ftf again, unstick applog and data, stick on cache ( wipe cache). try several times maybe it will bootup.
2. you sure your bootloader is unlocked ?
use flashtool to check your bootloader status, if it really unlocked just flash a custom kernel have build in recovery to save your data.
if it is locked bootloader, you can unlock via flashtool, it wont wipe you data like fastboot unlock, and flash kernel but you will lose your sony function forever if you dont have any TA backup before. you should consider to choose your data or sony function.
Are you sure your bootloader is unlocked?
Dude, Are you sure that your bootloader is unlocked?
1st confirm that and accordingly there are ways by which you can recover your data.
Guys here have already recommended methods by which you can get your data back. I suggest read through general an Q&A forums. Read thread for soft bricking. Do not panic and carefully follow the instructions. You should get your data back.
similar case has happened with me few times and I was sucessfully able to get my data back.. so dont worry..

Soft-Brick HTC One M7

Hi all,
first time poster - looonnng time lurker. Hoping you can help me with my One M7 brick.
Phone had been running slow and sluggish for a few weeks. Yesterday morning, it was particularly slow with apps randomly closing/crashing. Decided to reboot. The phone didn't reboot though; it came back with a white screen and "** TAMPERED *** *** LOCKED****" coming up - a fastboot screen I believe.
I can't get it to boot at all and I've tried accessing it via adb but it isn't detected. 'adb devices' shows nothing however 'fastboot devices' does list the phone. Windroid seems to detect it.
Ordinarily, I would just do a factory reset to see if this helps but my problem is this - I have SMS messages and photos/videos on the phone of my daughter that I really, really, really don't want to lose. They are very precious to me. If it was a case of breaking up the phone then I'd do it in a heartbeat to recover this data.
I've attached some images that I hope may help. A friend has mentioned that some of the lines indicate a problem with encryption on the card which means the data is lost completely - I'm desperately hoping this isn't the case and some kind soul can help.
Thanks

If the phone was encrypted then the only way to recover the phone is a factory reset using the stock recovery which will obviously delete all your files. Any other method that could fix the phone will wipe it: unlock the bootloader to flash a new rom will wipe the phone, flashing a ruu will also wipe it. Thats probably either an encryption problem or a failed emmc chip. I don't think there anything to do to recover your data, especially if the phone was encrypted. Sorry at least the phone might be recoverable...

Well, after asking a company who said they could do it and then said they'd have to wipe it, I've taken it back.
It seems there's nothing I can do about it; I've even tried using guides on here and elsewhere to return it completely to stock but because I can't get adb working, it's a no go. Factory reset does nothing. Trying to use tools and fastboot to change recovery images and all sorts doesn't work either. Seems to be something relating to 'S-ON' as when it's in RUU boot, if I disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, the screen briefly changes from the HTC screen to the white screen showing "Security Failed!" after trying to flash a new image on.
At a bit of a loss!

adb commands only works from a booted rom + USB debugging enabled from the developer option menu or from a custom recovery. So there is no problem here.

What is it doing exactly? You select "factory reset and it boot to the HTC splash sceen? It reboot in bootloader mode? It freeze the phone?
Trying to use tools and fastboot to change recovery images and all sorts doesn't work either.

Again you need to be more precise, what doesn't work exactly? There is no fastboot connectivity or there is but the recovery won't flash? Did you unlocked the bootloader?
Seems to be something relating to 'S-ON'

No, Its not related to S-ON.
as when it's in RUU boot, if I disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, the screen briefly changes from the HTC screen to the white screen showing "Security Failed!" after trying to flash a new image on.

What image exactly and how did you tried to flash it?

adb commands only works from a booted rom + USB debugging enabled from the developer option menu or from a custom recovery. So there is no problem here.

I've taken it back to another shop this morning to have it reset/flashed back to stock. Will just have to try data recovery once I've got it back and see if I can recover anything.

CWM does not detect my device

hello, I'm kinda desperate on installing recoveries on my phone
I'm following this guide over here
USB debugging mode is turned on, but it is not detected on the shell/command window
when I checked my device manager, my device driver is not found, I tried installing flash tool drivers, but I dunno where to search for these drivers, so I followed the way in this thread
and I found 4 drivers in the list:
- Android ADB interface
- Sony ADB interface
- Sony Composite ADB interface
- Sony Fastboot Interface
tried all the ADB interface but still give same result so I uninstalled the driver back to the way it was
Please help me as I'm really newbie at this and I wanna try Stryflex ROM, thanks
Note:
1. I already unlocked my bootloader, but someone in here said to unlock bootloader first so I assume that it will end the same way as LB
2. The error I received from the command window is "device not found"
3. Phone version C3502
4. currently still using stock ROM with 12.1.A.1.207 firmware, rooted with towelroot
5. I unlock the bootloader using the step on sony site
Bump, pls help anyone?

I strongly advise for you to START with another way and also use TWRP as a default recovery. CWM (and inherently PhilZ) are very old unsupported recoveries.
If you insist, you might want to install DoomLord's driver pack and try again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2635830
If you wish to follow my method, please follow this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64449411&postcount=4

Nope, this is my only device
Like i said, i cant install recoveries like what the tutorial above said because it's not detected
Hence i cannot proceed to other thing because of the fear of me failing to install cusrom
If i can install recoveries, i can backup (CMIIW) and it's at least reassuring me to do other things, this is my first time doing this so knowing nothing makes me confused and a bit terrified of I fail

the fastboot tools stated is the same fastboot tool used for unlocking the bootloader, am I right?
also do I need to put the img file on the same folder as the fastboot tools?

yes, and yes.
You can also point to the absolute path of the img file, but that would be complicated so copying would be easier. (welcome to the world of consoles (not the game consoles (command prompt)))

Can you explain everything, as if you're telling a story, in a chronological order? Remember, explain verbosely!
I need to sleep right now, hopefully i would able to reply to you in the next morning when i got enough information
Also, in the "hide" section of your previous post, there is nothing from inside..

firstly I do install TWRP according to your guide over there using fastboot tools
the one with this command
Code:
fastboot flash boot twrp.img
then it shows message like this
http://www.iforce.co.nz/View.aspx?i=ivkcgknl.fyl.png
I then restart my device normally and it boots into recovery mode, in which then I make backup by selecting all the option to my external card, and proceed to reboot after it's done
it returns me to TWRP once again, and I reboot using "reboot system", it shows sony logo and then black screen for a few minutes, and I got sent back to TWRP once more, I've tried "reboot bootloader" menu too and the same result, I've repeat this for a lot of times and still same result pops out
sorry to bother you this late night and have a nice sleep

Oh i thought you were ready for flashing Stryflex!
Anyway the reason why it booted to the TWRP repeatedly is because of the reason that you flashed a recovery into the boot partition. Please re-read carefully the page that I linked you to
Anyway to boot back to your stock ROM, get yourself a "boot" stock component from this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62447987&postcount=3
Flash it in the TWRP
sorry for the trouble.

I'd suggest looking at this thread. Also, the screen telling you the bootloader is unlocked is normal, when you have a device that has it unlocked, you *always* see it when you boot up.
cheers

Very thank you!
but Unfortunately, it didn't work for me.
I forgot what i did, but maybe I modified xbl_a, xbl_b, etc.
and try below method it didn't work, too.
I've touched too many things....
I'd like to know if there's a way to force the use of LG Flash Tool or something like that.

Follow this post. (Don't speak Spanish so have no idea what the above video is doing, can't help there).
Essentially, when you flash an image to a partition it doesn't belong in, you run the risk of overwriting into nearby partitions (because image is bigger than partition size). If you do that, then the only solution is what's in the post above. It basically restores the entire device using qfil. Because when you start overwriting partitions (and possibly the partition table), there's no way of knowing what is messed up and what isn't.

You are my hero!! So many thank you!!
I've only tried 3 and 4.
download mode has come alive.
btw, why my v40 has fail to install twrp?
my system is LMV409N(SKT)
Maybe I should give up custom rom for a while.
many thanks!!!

good that it worked. Follow this link and in the folder find boot_20n_magisk.img and use it (assuming you're on kor 20n), use qfil to flash it to boot_a and b.
It has both magisk and twrp in it. Remember, after flashing it in qfil (save original first of course), you need to hold vol - and pwr for a few seconds (until u hear windows chime meaning disconnect), to exit qfil.
But! and this is important, we don't want the device to boot, we want to go directly to recovery. So keep both buttons pressed but when LG logo appears, release pwr and then re-apply it, which then goes to recovery.
in recovery, u have to format data, then reboot recovery and flash dm_verity.
cheers

There's no password, you just cancel out of that but be sure to do the 'swipe' to make it modifiable. The key after that is to format data, then reboot recovery and flash dm_verity, then encryption won't exist and no longer asked for pw.
cheers
