Unimpressive battery life. - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Was expecting 10 hours of screen on time but was only able to get about 5hours
Things I've done(that gave 5hours screen on time)
Greenify(all apps greenified except whatsapp)
Gravitybox smart radio
Removed about all the bloatware I could find using titaniumbackup (including Google search, google plus, google now)
Disabled all auto-sync except for Gmail
Disabled x-reality
Disabled "scanning always available" (search for advanced wifi in settings)
Gravitybox
Stamina mode
Brightness about 20%
That's about it, tips or even a guide to improve this will be greatly appreciated.

Oops forgot about these. Edited in main post.
Stamina mode is on and brightness about 20% throughout the day

If you just turn the phone on and watch videos for 10 hours, I'm sure you could do that. You can't look at reviews and think that their battery tests (which don't mimic real use) are gospel. I just had my first day with the Z3C with AT&T service. Long story short, I'm getting the same battery life on my Z3C that I had on my Razr Maxx HD. And that's with location reporting on and brightness at 75 or 80%. On my RMHD location reporting was off and brightness was around 50%. I took it off the charger at 6am, it's 8pm now and I'm at 63%. 2 hours SoT.
If this was my Moto X I'd be at 15% or less.

Yeah, I know that's where you got the 10 hours number from. However, typical "real life usage" doesn't mean having the screen on for 10 hours. For example, I listen to a lot of podcasts and music. If I didn't I could probably double my screen on time. Stuff runs in the background and uses power as well. Battery life isn't just screen on time.

did you have a SIM card inserted? I noticed they didn't have a SIM card in theirs. This may turn off the cellular antennas
The problem with these synthetic tests is its repeating the same thing over and over again. Things like caching start coming into play

They didnt have a sim in? Thats pretty much invalidates the 10 hours number for sure. Cell service always drains more battery than wifi.

He has the phone in ultra stamina mode. If you wanna turn your smartphone into a dumbphone and have it last a week go ahead. Im gonna get two days out of one charge. Probably around 4 or 5 hours SoT, along with 6 or 7 hours of listening to podcasts and/or music. 10 to 12 hours of actual usage over two days is pretty pimp in my book. Im plenty happy with that. Dont know what to tell you.

Well. I'm basing this off of the screenshot they posted (I don't even know what that screenshot is trying to show). They really didn't say in their article. You can see the "no SIM" icon at the top and they're on WiFi.
I doubt they ran the test with a SIM card and 4g/LTE, and then went through the trouble of taking the SIM out and enabling WiFi before taking the screenshot.
Regardless, the battery life is good enough for me. Best from a phone I've ever had.

Sony says you can get 1-2 days on a charge with no battery saving modes on, 3-4 days with stamina mode, and up to a week with ultra stamina mode. Dude is on day 6 in that screen shot, so draw your own conclusions there. Plus, like another poster said, he's not on 4G or HSPA. Of course he'll have crazy battery life. My old flip phones used to last 3-4 days easily as well.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. If you think that the battery in the Z3C sucks, fair enough. I, however, am more than happy with a phone that gets the same battery life as my Razr Maxx HD. The Z3C has brightness turned up higher, and EVERYTHING on (except bluetooth), whereas the RMHD didn't. After one full day and 5 hours of actual use (2 hours SoT and 3 hours of audio listening with Pocket Casts) I'm at exactly 50%. Didn't charge the phone overnight. Gonna use it like normal today, see if I can get 2 full days with no battery saving mode turned on, 10 hours actual use.

Well again, the guy doesn't have 4G or HSPA on and is on wifi. Those are not 'real world conditions'. Maybe he doesn't have 4G or HSPA where he lives, but I do and I'm gonna use it. Good for him. I like smartphones better than dumbphones though

That is the only difference I'm finding between his settings and mine but I'm doubtful it would double my screen on time.

What do you want, unlimited screen on time for 2 days no matter what? Thats now how batteries work.

How's everyone's battery life?

So how's everyone's battery life on the HD? I've gotten about 11 hours average with decent usage, but I instilled Juice Defender and I'm getting about 20 hours now or so. Noticed better battery life on the One X but that's probably just because the One line from HTC has incredible standby time.

Charging takes FOREVER.
10-15 hours for me without Juice Defender. I played Gun Bros Multiplayer for 1.5hours and the battery was almost dead. My Atrix 2 could play for 2.5 hours. So the Atrix HD dosent have the greatest battery life. I see it lasting with mid-heavy use just for the work day at a 9-5 job then having to recharge it. My Atrix 2 with juice defender lasted well into the next day.
I cant say I'm too happy about that, but at least overall the phone is an improvement over the Atrix 2 except for battery life.
I can usually go thru a whole day on a full charge. It won't do 2 days.
Poor battery and camera are the only things keeping from trading my GS 3 for this phone.
I'm getting between 10-12 hours with screen brightness on medium, normal usage, and good signal. It's definitely better than what I'm seeing on my VZW Gnex on JB.
I am getting decent battery life I'm at about 50 with 6 hours of pretty heavy use. Getting LTE too in some spots. So I know that is heavier on battery buy otherwise I am happy. I am sure it will calibrate too after time
Sent from my MB886 using xda premium
Everyone who has the Atrix HD should have an app called "SmartActions"
It contains a battery extender. I've been using it next to juice defender and it's working really well.
I've been playing games, running lookout mobile on my phone, and watching movies on my SD card.
I used it heavy all night and drained it to 40%
Let it sit off the charger and woke up to 35%
Used it Heavy (Games&and 45min Video) from 9am till 11:54am Drained it to 28%
The battery extender app under Smart Actions and Juice Defender vastly improved my battery performance. I feel it's on par with the Iphone battery life, if not better.
i think battery life is super. i went from arix 4g to this. sucks i cant pull battery though, i had 3 extra batteries for my atrix 4g
Eventually one of those case companies like PowerSkin will make a case that doubles as an extended battery.
From my understanding the case plugs into the USB port so you dont have to swap the battery.
I'm keeping my eye out for one, but its too soon to expect them being sold right now.
Some of you are too critical. Battery life is amazing. How long you want it to last? As near to forever as possible?? Its an Android with a long life!!!

Quick question for Atrix HD users can you turn off LTE mode via *#*#4636#*#* like could with Atrix 4G?
I waited a couple days before judging so it could recharge a few times and I wouldn't playing with it all the time!
It seems to run down very quickly when the screen is on - even though I have brightness turned down most of the time. It needs a charge about the time I get home from work, whereas my Captivate still had a good charge and could make it through the night and to work the next morning with room to spare. I'm doing the same basic things I did on my Cappy - just checking email occasionally, gReader a couple times, FB a few times.
I'm hoping it improves a bit over time. I have already activated the battery saver SmartAction and just installed JuiceDefender today.
I tried the LTE mode code above and it didn't work. I tried an app that should change the setting and it didn't work either. I tried creating a new APN and it won't stay on it, just switches back to the default AT&T APN. Guess we'll have to wait for root.
I just got this a couple hours ago. Will have some battery info on it tomorrow if it stays in my possession.

You must have got lucky with your Captivate, because mine would burn through 30% batter in idle after 4 hours,
Smart Actions and Juice Defender seem to do the trick.
I found that Widgets and some games (especially gameloft games) will keep the phone from going into deep sleep. I know that the game "Gun Bros" sends notifications to your phone and randomly will do background syncing.
Also making sure that you completely exit apps helps tremendously with battery.
Here is a good artical about saving battery life. It's worth the read even if it might be a little old:
Top 10 Battery Saving Tips For Android
I dont know how you guys are getting battery life that good. I made the mistake of charging myphone only halfway on the first day after it died. But I've been trying to cycle it properly since.
But I cycled my phone twice today. Battery life is complete crap.
My day today:
I woke up at 5:45, played Cordy Sky for 30 minutes and checked all my stuff. On wifi the whole time. Battery was down to 82%.
Commuted to work, 1.5hrs. Listening to music from SD card for most of it. Had LTE on for most of the ride, 30min of the ride is underground, data off. 73% by the end of the ride.
My office has virtually NO service, LTE or otherwise, I couldnt even make a call. I also didnt get on wifi for about 2 hours. My phone was at 25% by 11am.
At which point i just ran it on full brightness, screen on, wifi off, syncing, etc until it died so I could cycle it.
I'm lucky to get 6 hours out of it.
I am using tons of the Smart Actions. Turning on wifi when I get home & get to work. All the "extender" settings are activated and ready.
--
Doesnt Juice Defender counteract the Smart Actions? Are you using the free versions, or ultimate?
--
Lastly, we, as smartphone users, shouldnt have to sacrifice functionality to save battery time. That's just a fact, and manufacturers are doing something wrong by not fixing that. The article you linked to asks too much of the user, basically turning the phone into a "dumb phone" until you activate everything again.
I even have smart actions doing some of those things, but still... wtf?

Smart Actions and Juice Defender work great together. Mind you that juice defender takes a day or two to learn your phones habbits.
Honestly I'd check your apps and see what services they are running and disable them. Not a lot of apps were made or updated for ICS yet, so you'll find a few here or there that will stop your phone from going into sleep.
If your battery life gets worse, I'd go get it checked out. My first Samsung Captivate battery held a weak charge, then all of a sudden the charge died. AT&T replaced it for me.
I felt the same way you did the first day I owned the phone. Once I got things setup right, it's been a dream. Honestly no, I havent lost any function out of my phone. I just learned some new habbits... like closing out of apps completely. Turning my screen of instead of letting it time out. ect..

Yep.. scanning for signal is probably the biggest battery killer you could have.
Honestly I'd just put my phone into sleep mode until I was in an area with service.
thanks guys, i'm getting slightly better battery life.
I'll post a screenshot of my battery levels graph when it gets lower later today. I installed Juice defender after getting to a full charge (chargin while off) at 1am. Went to sleep, and it didnt lose too much in the next several hours. which was nice.
right now, at work, w/ no service, but I'm on wifi and I'm not in airplane or sleep mode, it's lasting pretty evenly.
To me, it seems like the screen is the BIGGEST battery suck. I've noticed that every time my graph dips rapidly, it's when the screen is on. I dont think the brightness can be turned down enough. And I tend to check my phone a lot.
I imagine a bugfix in the future, which will adjust the way the screen uses power, but right now, combining screen & lte use basically murders the phone.
Someone else mentioned they played a game for 1.5 hours and the phone was almost dead. There's definitely something bad happening with screentime being proportionate to battery.
Note the correlation in the image
It starts at 1am, the drop in the middle is 5:30am, when my alarm went off for almost 45min and I didnt wake up.
The next major drop is my 1.5hr commute. But I was streaming video this time for 3/4th of it.
Then I got to work.
(((((I'm not really complaining anymore at this point, i know I've gotta tweak my usage, and let the tools figure out the battery, as well as let the battery itself figure out my usage better.... in due time it'lll get better. Now I'm pretty much just trying to share information w/ interested parties))))

Try putting the phone in airplane mode, then going into settings and turning wifi back on when you are in a place with no cell service. It'll turn off the cell radio but let the wifi one work.

anyone have bad battery life?

i see that a lot of people are posting amazing battery life results.. but no matter how hard I try, mine simply doesn't last 3 days with 8 hours screen on time etcetc
things ive tried:
factory reset then just install the essentials i.e. facebook, whatsapp, zite, mxplayer, pocket, myphoneexplorer.
battery calibration i.e. drain till dead/cant switch on, charge from 0 to 100 with phone off
adjust wifi, gps, autosync settings
and yet, see my attached battery stats. and that's with relatively light use (sat on my office desk) @ 2hr screen on time. no gaming, the most taxing activity was probably watching a movie with mxplayer for 20-30mins or so. the phone died completely 3 hours later.
my firmware is 81.5.39001.xt890.Retail.en.GB
it would SEEM that the battery goes down real fast with any usage.
i want to love the phone but it's not letting me.
thoughts?
firmware versions and screenshots of bad battery life please? lol
Well, mine does not last as well as advertised by others but likely better than this. It can get up to 5h of screen on time in web/video usage and maybe 3 days with less than 1h of screen on time. It also dies very quickly after 10%, 7%-4%-0% shutdown. Germany EU Retail stock firmware. Not the best battery i guess
Well my battery usually last between 1d 3 hours and 1d 20hours with usually display time between 1h 50m - 2h 30m and talk time 45m - 1h 20m talk time, with data or wi-fi always on , autobrightness always on and auto synch always on.
Facebook app and Whatsapp are mainly the guilty apps for the power consumption and data usage .... Without Facebook and Whatsapp installed and with ONLY wi-fi data i had superb power consumption .... 2d 10h and 4h 55m display time with 1h 30m talk time.
PS 2 more things that comsume power in Razr I are 1) music player and 2) FM radio

@kourkoubas, i think ours is similar then
but i've yet to try turning off facebook autorefresh. sadly whatsapp must stay
i use Music/Pocketcasts everyday but then it's no more than 1 hour combined.
i think ill have to do more testing. that other battery stats thread got my hopes up too high i guess lol
@Simplestas does your screen brightness flash wildly just before it shuts down?
I was a bit disappointed with my battery, too. I read about those 8hrs screen on time and was just stunned. It depends a bit, how i use it .. Usually i have WiFi activated almost all day in university and at home / girlfriend. With 2.5hrs screen on time i always have ~50-60% battery left. Thats a common value for me as i sometimes need my phone for .pdf viewing. I normally have the brightness reduced to ~15%.
For me, it was a huge improvement over my old Desire HD, but it still could be better. Anyway i don't want to forget the fact that i used JuiceDefender with my DHD and used every option i have to improve battery life while i just don't have to at my razr i, it just doesn't die one evening or in the middle of the day like my DHD used to.

I don't think so.
Try testing if taking pictures with flash works with battery < 50%. If it causes immediate shutdown your battery is likely faulty.

well the battery % seems to be correct.. have attempted to calibrate it quite a number of times now.
it's just that the screen backlight becomes er.. like a flashlight running out of battery- dimming and returning to normal brightness a few times just before it shutsdown at around 2% battery level. just wondered if this is a common behaviour with xt890s/medfield cpus.
because ive never seen this in other moto phones nor any other smartphones for that matter.

other than the outrageous 8hr screen on times etc, there are quite a few review sites praising its battery life so we must be missing something and i want to see if it's possible to find out what.
i agree though juicedefender work wonders.
used to rely on it a lot. now I just occasionally use "autosync free". it's more than good enough.
but i don't want to rely on these methods yet..

define good
let's see some stats
and what firmware are you running?
"worse" could just be the new apps you're adding to the phone?
cheers.
6h of screen time already IS GOOD, very good.
4h is what what sgs3 usually gets, 3h is what the n4 gets so 2more hours aint good? Everything gets +-2h with different usage e.g. google now and being on the move, mobile data...
It all depends on your usage but its about 25-50%better then the other quick phones around so please stop *****ing because u saw some very good screen and now cry because all your widgets, push email, chatting, mp3 destroy the screen on time you get
@yellowchilli: sry i cant see your attached screenshot, forum doesnt let me but if you usually get 2h of screen time you should call the support and get a new phone because thats not right.
edit:now i can see it. What did u do with the phone except watching a movie ? Nearly 3h aint critical i cant tell if thats normal or not it could be that you listened mp3 ... if you bought at a store go to them and get a new one anyway the store i bought in wouldnt mind changing it so i hope yours does the same

I get about 2-3 days with minimum usage (auto brightness, WhatsApp, Twitter, occasionally a phone call or web search or camera shot). I have the latest GB retail firmware, no root or whatsoever. Completely stock ROM.
Mine also never got past the 3h30 screen-on time, even if I didn't use it for much else... should I take it to the nearest customer support site?
Also, the phone gets real hot when the screen is on for some time...
This is what I get usually and I love my battery...
Running stock rom 39001.retail.en.GB

[Q] Is my battery broken?

Hey I have just bought HTC One 2 days ago. Compared to my old Sensation XE battery life completly sucks. I usually use phone without battery saver, on auto brightness and with Wi-Fi/3g turned on only on demand. Today 8 hours after unplugging phone from the charger I only have 26%. Screen was turned on for 2 hours and 45 minutes only and Wi-Fi worked for 3 hours and 46 mins. I might also say that I did not charge my One before usage to 100% as HTC advised. Was that very crucial? Do you think that phone might be broken or I should just give him time to settle baterry better.
That's sounds like what I get. I turn off mobile data when using WiFi and vice versa. I always use power saver unless I'm 3D gaming. Which is only on the weekends.
I've had mine for 3 months now.
I've seen people get 7:00 screen time on stock unrooted.
I think my battery's broken too. I can barely reach 3 hours of screen time. With 2 hours I get like 11 maybe 12 hours of on time. Something's wrong with our phones...
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Does anyone see a problem with my battery I have been on wifi the whole time with brightness at 20%.I never had this bad of a drain before and all I did was look at facebook for maybe 5 minutes.I also closed the app after I was done using it.

Your battery stats seem on par with me and the OP. Seems that only a select few phones get decent battery life.
My kernel (android os) has been in the 25-35% range,it has never been that high before.
battery life lousy
I get pretty horrible drain too. I charged it to nearly full around 7:30 last night. I took about 2 minutes of video, sent one text, and checked my email 3 times. After that I went to sleep and the phone sat idle. At 6:30 this morning, I'm down to 9%.

Wow, that's real bad.. When my phone is off during night maybe 7% is gone. Then again I'm rooted and use greenify aswell as battery doctor if that has any affect.
On screen time seems like my battery drains pretty fast too though. After 2 hours of music and surfing and watching videos I guess atleast 40% would be gone.
My battery life became horrible, too. My phones loses 4% per unused hour. No App seems to be responsible for that drain. Flightmode or powersaving mode ain't making a difference. I hope we'll find a solution for our drain.

@Racingmatt your power management services is on for quite a bit. do you have alarms.? i would bet that you either that maps location enabled or something of the sort. cause you also have NLPcollector on for around 40 minutes which is a bit much. also i would turn off GPS if your not actively using it.
@Rachorid how are you setting up your wifi? is it set to always be on? or set to turn off when screen off? you have alot of wifi wake. might be due to that. i know when i'm at home my wifi actively pings all devices connected which will force wake up my phone. yea its a bit annoying but i live with it. otherwise i just keep my phone plugged in.
if you both can get some SS of alarms i can give you a better idea. and when you SS the alarms make sure to click on the ones with the most wake lock so i can see the secondary screen that shows what the actual wakelock command is happening.

Here are the latest stats. As you can see many Google wakes.. removing Maps/Now/GMail/turning of Location (a few days ago) had no impact on my drain. The 2nd app on Partial Wakelocks was used actively.
I also disabled Wifi for about 2 hours.. no impact, too. Flightmode also had no impact (a few days ago).

The reason I didnt give you a alarm ss is because I didn't have any alarms when I went to the alarms section. I also had all locations services including GPS enabled but I just now disabled GPS but left network location enabled I'll give you a screenshot later so you can see the differences

I had awesome battery life a month ago with Wifi always on, auto. brightness and every app on hourly sync. (I have my phone since 7th of march) Sometimes I didn't lost a percent over night (8 hours) and I just don't know what it could be because I didn't install another app and no app seems to be responsible for that stanby drain. My on-screen battery life is still good. It also doesn't matter which ROM or kernel I'm using.
Here is my latest stats after 12 hours with 5 minutes of GPS use (turned off when not using)and network location on all the time with 3g/4g on all the time(turns off after a period of inactivity) . I can't give you a alarm stat because I'm not rooted.
Lithium-Ion batteries used in today's smartphones need atleast 10 cycles to show optimum power
so hold on until 2 weeks then you will get the full performance
i get 2 days of battery on my HTC One (since i dont have internet on my Simcard)
its 2G connection and auto Brightness and switched bloatwares off
i use Android Revolution HD 12.2

new Z1 phone and battery issue

Last week.I bought new Z1 phone after I heard all the good things about him and we'll I am enjoy from phone the only problem is the battery.
I got the phone with the 4.4.2 update whitin him and I have battery issues. Not sure if because of the update or the phone itself...if I'm not touching the phone and the screen is off it can be pass 10 hours and only 2-3% and even less will be down but when I play with the like whatsapp or Facebook and even just using the browser the battery lost 1-3% in just 5 minutes...is that normal? It's because the update or battery itself problem?
Thanks for helping and sorry for my bad english
On Z1 section there is 100 threads explaining how the battery work on Z1. Why do not search carefully and read before open another thread about a problem which do not even exist. And No, you did not search well, even if you said you did.
The main reason of the battery consumption is the screen, you cannot determinate the life of the battery after only 5 minutes. You have to make 4 or 5 complete cycles from 100% to 5% and charge again to full to let the Android set up properly with Stamina and Low option enabled. The screen eat battery drastically, yes, but with a normal use you can reach 3 hours with screen on and 20 hours in all day, which look to me wery good as you will charge it overnight. If you use less screen and few calls you will get even 2 days of battery.
It's all normal.
BTW, KK have some issues but you cannot say it now that it have it.
Stupid calculation: 100% : 3% = 33, 33 x 5 = 165, 165 : 60 = 2.75 > DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEAN??
It's mean that you get almost 3 hours on screen if we calculate you consume 3% of battery in 5 minutes.

There are many things. KK have this protection to do not have permission to write to SD, many application still try to do it so you should fix it. How? By rooting your phone and installing a patch, which also you can find on XDA, therer is also a kitkat fix sd app on play store.
Try to disable all the unwanted application working in backgroud. If you don't use them then close them, some of them run and eat battery.
Install Battery Guru Snapdragon, it will not impress but it can give you a help, it's also developed for your Hardware.
...what else? many things.....like hit the thanx button!!
There's no such thing as a stupid question except the one then gets left unasked. Please be nice guys a discussion about android should not become personal and I won't be giving any more warning regarding such.
But to throw my 2 cents into the discussion, as mentioned there are many factors and reasons why your battery does not last like on your friend device. Different apps running, how you charge your device, how often you use it, ect ect. Even though you have the same device no chip is identical just like no human is.

Thank you for the answers I just wanna be sure that I.didn't bought a phone with ****ed up battery..is there a a way to know if the battery is ok? Like to see if it doesn't have a problem or something
I have almost same condition phone as you, my phone battery drains and it heats up, and it annoys me Well, for me your phone is normal, i can have about 4 hours screen on time with stamina mode/low battery off, no auto sync, no auto brightness, sometimes i also lose about 3% in 5 minutes, sometimes don't, sometimes it just stays on 80% for so long, then back to normal again once it drops to 1%. Sometimes i lose about 5% in one night with mobile network off.
Just as @eclyptos said, you need to cycle your battery so that stamina mode can learn how you use your phone, but the reason i stop using it is because sometimes it disconnects my mobile network by itself though i blacklisted some apps, I chat alot, so i need my mobile network always on.
Enjoy your new Z1

Z1 has a powerfull battery but is a powerfull phone, i use wifi + 4g enabled ALL DAY with Facebook, Whatsapp, Email, Linkedin, Instagram, Spotify, all kinds of social apps enabled. I wake up and unplug my phone from charge with 100%, at night, 22h, i have 18% sometimes less, but for me is not a problem charge the phone every night, because i have a Smartphone and i have to use it like one, if i want a durable battery i will buy a Nokia 5210, if i have a phone to let 4g, wifi and all social apps disabled i dont need a smartphone.
But this is just my opinion, for me using the phone with everything enable and charge it only once a day its perfect.

Your case is an extreme case, double check if there is an app consuming battery abnormally, if you are in places that has no much signal you will lose a lot of battery. In last case you will have to format your phone with pc companion. Installing a Rom from 0 can solve a lot of problems.

[Q] Battery draining too fast on Galaxy S6

Hey guys. I recently bought a GS6 and I love everything about the phone....except the battery! This is literally a deciding factor for me vs the iPhone 6.
I know it has a quad HD screen but my battery drains WHEN THE SCREEN IS OFF. My provider (T-Mobile) says one reason could be that I used all my data (T-Mobile just slows down your speeds). This can also mean it's constantly searching for a better signal. Sometimes I don't get reception indoors but usually my reception is good.
Now, I would understand if my battery was dropping IF I had the screen on, but it's not. It's dropping a percent every 2-3 minutes.
Anyone have this issue and can combat it? My data plan reloads in two days so I can see if it gets better but if not, I will be switching to an iPhone....
Thanks in advance.
I just found out you can't use an iPhone without a simcard inserted..?? That's ludacris! Can't use it as a camera, mediaphone, mp3 player.. nothing.. they steal your money bro.. literally. Don't get brain washed. i.e. Use aftermarket cables, the phone will catch fire and burn your house down as punishment..
iPhone all the apps are paid, since you may get used to it.. you should download better battery stats in the playstore, and it will pinpoint you to the battery drain.. could be something as simple as some bloat app. i.e. facebook trying to connect and sync and all that stuff, when you have no data. Same problems when just on wifi? Airplane mode + wifi?
perhaps you can try rooting, pingpongroot just came out and will root your s6 without tripping knox so you can reset your phone back to normal if you decide to go to the dark side.
Purpose of android and the Galaxy s6 is you can make it better or worse thru rooting, tinkering etc. . iPhones are straight same robotic, limited, just got 1080p screens, consistent right out of the box.
Tinker bro!!
The battery drain is probably from a couple of problems you can find by looking at the first page of the general section. About going to the iPhone all I have to say is the iPhone 6 had horrible battery life on launch. So if you where a early adopter to the iPhone 6 you probably would be equally disappointed. Once we get android 5.1.1 we should have really good battery life. My s6 already lasts longer than my LG g3 ever did and it had a bigger battery so I'm pretty pumped for 5.1.1.
I get about 10 to 12 hours of medium to heavy use without charging.
I don't use powersaver, have volte off, wifi search off, wifi calling off, and trust agents smart lock (google) off.
This is with auto screen brightness.
I have a Zerolemon 2800mah case with me as well, but I never use it.

I'ma try freezing some apps without root. I'll track how much battery I really get. If I get 4-5 hours SoT I'll be happy. It's just the drain while the screen is off really bothers me.

Not to sound braggish, but I always get at least 4 hours SOT. Total standby time varies (30-40 hours) depending on how much I use it, but SOT is always between 4-5 hours which is all I expect from a 2550 mAh battery. Battery life during my first week was awful (so bad that I considered selling it) but after rooting, debloating and other tweaks, I am much happier. I am also running Scuk's XtreStoLite Pure Edition rom, which is an extremely lean version of stock with all Samsung bloatware removed. However, I am still on the stock unmodified kernel with no underclocking or other kernel hacks, and I always get at least 30 hours standby. If you want to get serious about better battery life, I recommend flashing a debloated rom. But if you want to stay stock, then use Titanium Backup to freeze the stuff you don't use and Greenify the rest, and your battery life will improve. Just don't expect to set battery life records with the S6, because it will never happen.
I'm not sure why you are losing a percent every 2-3 min when the phone is on standby. I get great battery life on mine. Today I lightly used my phone (A few calls and texts, maybe took 10 pictures and some short videos, browsed the web and YouTube a little) but it was mostly in standby. It has been just short of 12 hours since it was fully charged this morning and it is still at 71%.
Maybe you have a defective battery. Also, and I may have been imagining it, but I think the battery life improved after a week or two of use. Maybe there is a break in period for it.

hank you for replying! I do actually want to stay on stock, but I found this neat thread/program from an XDA user that lets you remote bloat so I will try that.

That's the link.
I would actually be very satisfied with 30-40 hours of standby time with 4-5 hours of SoT, which is exactly what I'm trying to achieve. If you may, I just have a couple questions to ask. Do you leave Wifi/data on when you're not using it to receive push emails, etc. throughout the day and do you have the Facebook and Messenger app installed? I noticed if I left them running in the background they sucked up my battery.

Wow, your battery sounds phenomenal! I had 80% this morning and after 8 hours I'm under 50% already with very light use. =/ I feel it's more like 3%/hour on standby but if I can get it to 1-1.5% every hour with wifi and sync on that would be perfect. Thanks for the reply!
Tagging this thread - I'd be happy to hit 20 hours with 4 hours SOT on this battery - today I got 15 hours standby and 2 hours 20 minutes SOT before having to charge.
Guys, found a really nice debloater tool you can use on stock too!

I just need to know which ones to remove (or a list of what app does what now so I can remove it)

I have wifi and location enabled all the time. BT on while in my car, otherwise BT off.
I don't facebook. FB is a known battery hog. Get rid of those 2 apps and you will probably gain another hour SOT.
Here are my current battery stats, on track for another 40 hrs standby + 5 hrs SOT. Overnight drain 2-3%.
IMO the battery life got better over time.. I noticed a huge drain initially.. but for some reason after about 3 weeks with my s6 it's gotten noticeably better.. Its not the best battery, but it does improve

It appears that it simply disables the app (unless you're rooted). There's an app you can download to do it easier. Download Package Disabler from the Play Store.

Very impressive. I'll hang on to FB because it isn't showing up in my list of used programs atm but if I see any difference I'll remove it. I lost 4% overnight so that's an improvement.

I'm not expecting the best battery, but I'm expecting a day and a half of light use due to all these posts I've seen. I'll keep at it and see how it fares.

Yes, I just want to disable it, not remove it because you can't use that space anyways so it's just better to disable it in case you need to re-enable it for an OTA or if you need to return/sell.

Wondering if this is considered decent battery life? This is with very light use of text, data and wifi with email sync. The standby time is great but the on-screen time is meh. I also used airplane mode in areas where I was getting spotty reception during class. I also get the message "No internet connection or server not available" and I feel like a certain app is searching for a connection that could drain the battery more but I'm not sure which app it would be.

I'd definitely consider that good battery life. I'd love if mine could reach that.

Your standby time is great but your SOT isn't that great. Your email app is using a lot of battery syncing. I recommend using Greenify or Servicely to restrict wakeups.
Your idle drain curve looks a bit steep. Mine is almost flat. How much does it drain overnight?
Facebook and FB Messenger are battery hogs. Delete those and you will probably get another hour SOT.
Good idea using airplane mode in areas where you know you won't get signal. You could use Tasker or Llama to automate switching back & forth.
I can live with this.. Took my phone off the charger early this morning

I wish 9am was early! I unplugged mine at about 0430 this morning. My screen on time is only about an hour and 15 minutes though.
My phone still stays awake too much. One hour is from music during the gym - I'm not sure why the kernel has it staying awake for 6+ hours though

Yeah that is jacked up. GSam monitor shows your phone has been awake for over 8 hrs, so it is not going into deep sleep. Out of curiosity, install CPU Spy and see what it shows. It should be similar to this:
