Hi,
I bought a rooted & unlocked (originally on AT&T) from Swappa.
Couple questions
1) How do I remove the root and reset it to factory settings?
2) When it boots up, it shows a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 custom (with an unlocked icon), how do I remove that?
3) When it boots up, it says safestrap disabled, how do I remove that?
Thanks

ok.. so semi in reverse order.
3. Safestrap is our only recovery option to flash stuff for ATT... we have a locked bootloader and cant use normal twrp/cwm.. so when you boot up, you can select the recovery to enter and wipe the cache/davlik/etc... flash roms, and so on..
2. If you decide to keep root, you can install Xposed installer and get the Wanam module.. in there, you can go into the system option and select the option to fake the system to show it as official instead of custom and that custom icon will go away.
1. There is already a thread that tells you, basically the best bet will be to Odin back to stock and that will wipe it all..
Question is, why would you want to get rid of root?? you can go into the Safestrap and go into recovery, go to Wipe.. then slide the bar to Factory reset it... that will get rid of all the information that is on there and boot it up as if you first bought it...this way you will still have root and be able to flash the roms and make your phone ohh so much bettah

Now that you have a soft bricked phone that is the best guide to follow. It really doesn't get any clearer than that.

ahh if it is sayign safestrap is disabled and you cant boot up, then you dont have SS installed i think.. you need to follow that guide and do it.. it looks complicated but it really isnt... just read it like 2 times and i think there is even a video guide in there to follow as well..
ensure you download all the needed files and set it up and boom... you will be done.. ive had to do it and at first was timid like u.. but it really is easy

Did you delete your data, system, safestrap is gone, only download mode and stock recovery are available? Do you want to start fresh and out of the box new?
(( FOR s 5 ACTIVE )) NE4Thanks to @ted77usa & @Intub8 for the help. SAM MOBILE for the Firmware and steps. KNOX was not tripped. Nothing was after this. It worked perfectly.
Just FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS
Do this at your own risk. If you don't read and mess up your phone, its not my fault . As long as you can get into download mode, this will help out a lot. I am not responsible for what you do to your device.
Odin Back to s5 Active Stock. NE4
Make sure you have the Samsung drivers installed before starting.
Samsung USB drivers
Make sure USB debugging is checked under settings/developer options. If you don't know how to do that, go to "about device" in settings, and click on "Build Number x5 till you unlock Developer options".
Extract (unzip) the firmware file (NE4) HERE
Download Odin v3.09 HERE
Extract Odin zip-file
Open Odin v3.09
Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait a few minutes
Note : Some users are getting stuck at long At&t screen, once odin finishes and you happen to get stuck, reboot to stock recovery and factory reset your phone.
It should boot up just fine after that. The At&t screen sometimes takes a while.
You can do this below if you want. I have done this about 5 or 6 times. #6 and 7 happens sometimes.
I wanted to be totally fresh and wanted to use "Wipe Data (YES)" in safestrap. Here is what I did and what happened.
My phone has been really good since this and all is smooth.
Things to do to be fresh and start all the way over out of box style:
1. Make sure you have done a back up, and your ready to restore with Odin.
2. Go into Safestrap
3. Go to WIPE tab > Factory reset
4. Advanced wipe, (Wipe > Dalvik Cache, "NOT Micro SDcard"> Data, Cache, System)
5. For really starting over > next to Advanced wipe is "Format Data" do that and type YES
6. This will get rid of safestrap and everything so you will get a black screen once it deletes all.
7. Try to catch it and go into download mode before it boots to the Samsung screen (Which it will stay there FOREVER)
(As soon as your phone does this, try to catch it before the samsung screen and go into download mode. When it turns black, quickly hold Power + Volume down + home button. )
8. While in download mode, flash the restore firmware.
9. Let it do its thing and you will be factory new.
10. After it all settles down and you are back up and running, you can start like I do.
(Root with V3 (Make it Rain), Install and update SU, Reboot 3 times lol, install busybox, install safestrap, install xposed, reboot, install your modules, reboot, power down and boot back but go into safestrap and wipe dalvik cache and regular cache. Reboot. lol- Install all your apps you like or have your backups from titanium on your sd card and restore) Reboot and go into safestrap again and fix permissions and reboot lol...... BAM. (Your phone should be sick and you should throw up on it)

What plunge are you talking about dude? I have soft bricked my phone (formated data) and used this to start fresh. The more we know the better. I have done it. Its fine. I have ran NCE NE4, you must not know whats going on here. That what this thread is for. Restoring your phone to factory defaults. If you go back to stock and the GPS still doesn't initiate let me know. There was a way to hard reset the GPS that I came across on the gs3 that may work. Every time I flash a rom if it's acting goofy I wipe everything and go back to 100% stock. Sometimes things get stuck and left behind that can muck things up. Think of it like a colon clense for your phone. Glad the Odin worked for you.

Yes, Please share if you don't mind. I broke the GPS lol. I don't believe flashing this official firmware did it though, I think flashing different ROM's did it but who am I......I found a GPS fix I used for my Note 3 (Kit Kat) You have to flash it in recovery. Is that how yours is? Here is the file for you to check out if you want to. I haven't flashed it yet though. >>>> Deleted Link ....That didnt work. Got random reboots.

Found it after about an hour of looking , You must Odin back to a stock ROM first.
((((2. Enter into dialer *2767*3855# (Will do a HARD reset, no internal storage will be lost except the usual data)
3. Boot up again and run... )))
keep in mind this was the method to fix the gps on the note 2 and it may or may not still be a good dialer code for your s5.

And @Caliesv I would ask you Why Not? The whole point of unlocking/rooting/building custom ROMs is because WE CAN, and how better to learn what we can and can't do then by trying? Just because a device has its own firmware has absolutely no bearing on what ROM you flash, granted as the default firmware it likely wont flash do to a signature mismatch but as a custom ROM why not?
I might just build one for the Heck of it.
GPS is a problem still. About to re-flash the restore and see what happens without root. Will report back.
I have a note 3 that I'm trying to get Cyanogenmod 11 on to. I should note that I got this working with my Droid Razr earlier today using the exact same process. I get to the point where I flash the rom and it only takes like 5 seconds then says "successful". When I boot the rom I just get a black screen that I have to hold the power button down to get out of. My note 3 is running 4.4.2 I have root and busybox is installed. I've tried safestrap 3.72 and 3.75. I've even tried the stock slot (and then reverted back when it didn't work). I'm out of things to try and I can't find anyone else who has had a similar issue. Anyone got any ideas?
If its an N900A or N900V, you can only run TW based roms because the bootloader is locked.

I don't know of anyone with an at&t note 3 running CM. It's possible they're using an N900T, or an N9005 Note 3 on at&t.

noob over here needing help
i have the ATT Note 3 with the locked bootloader. i cant rememeber the model name but i think its like I900A. anyway i have had it rooted for about 5 months or so and i have had safestrap and busybox and use Xposed wanam. also using twrp and titanium backup. well i have never flashed anything on it cuz ive always been sketched out with the locked bootloader and not being able to flash kernals and all that. so yesterday i figured i would try one out and see if i could get it. i used the "S5 Experience" rom and i downloaded it from MEGA onto my ext. SD under a new folder i made called "s5 experience". i then went into recovery mode through safestrap and went to "backup" and then made a backup of data, cache, and system. after that i went to "wipe" and did a factory reset/wipe. when that was done i went to "install" and found my "s5 experience" on my ext. SD and installed it. when that was done i rebooted my device and it popped up with the samsung note 3 emblem and under it the little lock underneath it in the unlocked position just like it always has. then went to safestrap with the little red robot and "safestrap: disabled" like always. so i hit continue and from there is when my problem started. the blue LED light on the top left turned on and stayed on but the screen stayed black. this is the problem i am still having right now. if i press the power button it will vibrate or double vibrate and eventualy if i hold it down i can get it to restart. after that i went into recovery again and tried to restore from my backup i had made just earlier. when i try that it goes for a while and then will eventually say that restore has failed. ive mesed with some of the settings and stuff in the twrp recovery interface but not much because im new and not sure what i should and should not be doing. so i started looking here. i didnt find any help on the S5 Experience forum and i havent found and other forums that have this problem except maybe this one. so i am asking for help, if someone would be so kind as to walk me through how to fix my phone and what i did wrong it would be greatly greatly appreciated. if at all possible i would love to keep all of my pics and apps and stuff but if that is not possible then i wont complain if i have to lose it all. i would be happy just to have a working phone again. thanks in advance and sorry if i have posted this in the wrong place.

If you can boot to stock recovery (power+home+volume up) NOT safestrap recovery do a factory reset from there. That'll reflash stock rom and you can reroot + busybox + SS. Make sure to check what build you are on as well - if you are on NC2 kitkat you can only flash kitkat-based roms.

brisinger08, thanks for the input. i was running kit kat. i figured the s5 experience would be based off of kitkat too but i guess i should have checked first. i just tried that. when i got into the recovery boot the little android guy falls over. then i went to factory wipe and let it wipe. after that i went to reboot. when it rebooted it still had the little lock under the Samsung logo and after that screen it went straight to safestrap again. it hasn't seemed to change anything as far as i can tell. any other ideas?

If you're on the A3 bootloader then reflashing NC2 with odin will clear this up, (double-check in download mode) then follow the instructions in this thread. If you're on A2 you can still do this but it will overwrite your bootloader and lock you into NC2 so if that's the case you might want to read through that thread to make sure you're ok with that!
I am returning my phone back to stock so I can trade it in. I found a few threads on here that have ways to unroot but some seem questionable. Can anyone point me in the right direction to unroot an official Kit Kat updated device?
Thanks
Assuming you have supersu, uninstall all of your apps that have root access (for safestrap, busybox, etc make sure to uninstall the in-app stuff first), i would reboot here but that may not be necessary...then open up supersu and choose "full unroot". Then factory reset and double check status is official ☺
If you get a custom screen after that try rerooting then full unroot with supersu again
Edit: I stand corrected - flashing NC2 with Odin is easiest
Yeah I have su. So before I do this should I restore my stock rom I have backed up via safestrap? I am currently running dynamic kat 5.0

Did you backup stock rom before you flashed the custom rom in safestrap? if yes, reflash your backup in safestrap then the steps in post #2 should work. If no, I'm really not sure how going through that unroot process with SuperSU while still on a custom rom would work out...Odin is much easier and more reliable so if there's any way you can get to a PC you might want to go that route.
Also if you're selling online you might find some people who do want to buy a rooted Note 3...I sold a phone on swappa a few months ago and there were people looking specifically for rooted phones. The 'cartoon thing' is safestrap and is exactly what you want to see when you turn on a rooted AT&T Note 3

I don't think people will want to buy phone if they saw this sick looking robot thing when they switch it on. Please help...Phone too big for my hands. Thank you

Thanks for your feel good message...made my day. I thought I backed up stock rom however being an obviously root virgin...When I went to factory reset, everything was gone except for my ugly cartoony friend. Luckily I am able to read in small doses so I was able to do whatever it was I did to get her running factory...still rooted and unlocked. When you mentioned that people on swappa might be interested in a rooted device WITH my lonely friend at startup? I felt all fuzzy. I will post an ad on swappa later today in your honor my mysterious phoneguardian angel. Thanks again.

Looks like I'll need to go the long route to unroot. I have a Mac book and I can't find Odin for it
Hello all,
I managed to grab a Cricket-branded Galaxy S5. I decided this was the best area to post and ask questions because I believe this phone is locked down the exact same as the AT&T one (and might even be 1:1 other than software and the logo on the back), plus the fact that AT&T owns Cricket.
Currently, I only have the device rooted using TowelRoot.
I want to install SafeStrap, but wasn't sure if it would go smoothly, and I don't have an image to use with ODIN if I mess things up.
Can anyone suggest how to best create a stock image, or provide links/info to a stock ROM for this phone on Cricket?
Model: Samsung SM-G900AZ
Android version: 4.4.2
Baseband: G900AZTUU1ANE7
Kernel: 3.4.0-1732610 [May 29]
Build: KOT49H.G900AZTUU1ANE7
I would like to back it up, install SafeStrap, and try out some custom ROMs (I know Bootloader is locked, so I'd be limited in that regards), or possibly install Xposed to tweak some device behavior.
Can someone please advise?
Thanks.
Install safestrap, the worst that can happen is it may say installed but when you try to reboot to recovery, it will just reboot like normal and its as if the installation didn't actually 'stick'.
That's what happened to me...
After uninstalling the safeatrap installer and re-installing the app, then re-running the app, it said that safestrap was successfully installed, and this time upon tapping 'reboot to SS recovery' it actually worked.
You definitely do not need all the trouble of making a backup right now.. Just install ss and then make a full backup as usual.
Ps we have the same phone
Recently bought a s5 cricket, and what I have rooted for odin using the method cf-root, now I want to change the recovery to philz and change the kernel by one a bit more efficient and thrifty, and read about the Ss but not sure which version should I use because I can not find any for my team, I would assert that this circulating ND3 or that could use?
This is my phone

I hate to tell you that will be impossible..
Unless soneone can correct me, i am 99% sure our boooader is locked and will remain as such.
So, safeatrap is your only option for recovery/flashing, and in addition you will be limited to flashing tw-based Roms. Custom kernels are not an option unless /until the bootloader is unlocked.
Sorry to be the Bearer of bad news

I understand, however I wonder what version of SS I use to at least make a backup of my current rom and to test some custom rooms? the truth is that I feel bound hand and buy the tlf a good price and would like to customize much as my S3, but hey I'll have to resign myself to use it well and lighten the version that brings factory.
Edit : in case anyone wasn't sure here is the link to safestrap http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794087
Hi, I'm kind of new to this, but I have a Cricket S5, and have some quick questions regarding rooting.
1. Is there anyway to fully unroot the cricket phone after rooting it with towelroot? (unvoid the warranty)
2. Will the bootloader ever be unlocked, so that I can flash custom roms?
Thanks for any help!

1. Yes, theres an unroot option in SuperSU that ive suggested to be used or you can reflash with odin, there are guides in the general forum if you check there
2. Will it ever be unlocked? Most likely not. Can it be unlocked? Yes, but unless something pops up it would have to be by getting the decryption key.

The bootloader is unlocked. From the beginning, unlocked. No need to decrypt anything or get a key or any of that hassle.
Yes, you can fully unroot if you choose

There are multiple stock roms in the general section.

Okay so to start I followed this Tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/how-to-root-g900aucu2aoa1-4-4-4-2-3-2015-t3021120 all the way through and my phone was rooted and I was happy. One day I tried to install TWRP since this is what I used on my Galaxy s3 before this phone. It got stuck on on a boot loop. I eventually tried flashing every stock ROM which did not fix the problem because ODIN would fail when trying to flash. Eventually I tried flashing the "G900A_ND3_Stock_Kernel" supplied in the tutorial. My phone magically booted up and all my APPS and stuff was the same as I left it and it was still rooted. I decided not to mess with it anymore. This happened about a month ago.
Today, my phone had a notification saying that there was an update and I tapped remind me later. Eventually, I installed Titanium Back up to force closed the AT&T Software Update app the phone came with. Then. it automatically updated and eventually got stuck into the boot loop again. No problem, I fixed this before. What I noticed from the first time was that I had a screen that said "Secure Fail: Recovery. System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest AT&T store for help" Once I flashed the stock kernel from the tutorial I never checked to see if the recover menu was there.
So right now I have my phone working and its rooted. I installed the "Phone Info" app and it says Bootloader Version:G900AUCU2ANG3. Eventually, my phone will try to update itself again and it will fail causing it to boot loop. I am not sure on what to do. Is there a way for me to have my recovery menu back? I just want to have the option in the future to revert everything back to normal in case I sell it or feel like having the newest OS. Also it would be cool to have a recovery menu on my phone again.
I know this was long but I needed to solve this problem before it gets out of hand in the future. Also I am pretty sure others have followed the tutorial and might have had the idea to update the OS or something else and had a problem similar to mine.
Thank You Very Much.

So you're still rooted?
And if so using titanium backup just freeze the ATT update app I forget what it's called exactly but you'll know it when you see it and that'll stop your device from trying to automatically trying to update

Yeah I'm still rooted and I found out about the freeze app option but do you know about the problem where I don't even have a recovery menu?

You need to download the safe strap recovery menu. That is for rooted phones with locked bootloaders.

Thank You very much I was able to install the Safe strap Recovery and am now backing it up. Hopefully my last question Is there a way to update in the future for example if I wanted to have the OTA firmwares from AT&T without root in case I were to sell the phone?
Thank you guys for the answers.

I've tried this in the past when my phone was stuck in bootloop, But it always failed since I have a different baseband or boatloader. Would you know which stock ROM I have to use because I tried many and had no luck in the past?

Wait, the thread is for Galaxy s5 Active. Will the G870AUCU1ANE4_Full_Odin.tar file work on my Galaxy s5 AT&T? Just making sure.
