What made everyone choose this over the LG G watch?
i went for gear live because it has amoled display and the silver thing on the two side makes the watch look a bit premium

Don't forget it's also $30 less as by the end of the year we ALL know we will be owning superior devices anyways.

i actually paid £10 more as its priced higher than lg g watch in uk
I absolutely cannot believe they did not include a speaker! I just returned the gear neo 2 because it was running Tizen and not Google wear. making phone calls on it without pulling my phone out of my pocket was the absolute greatest feature.I ordered the gear live because it was running Google wear, thinking of the future. Now I find out it does not have a speaker so I can not make phone calls from the watch. I'm going to return the gear live and go back to the gear neo 2. Wrong decision Samsung.

I honestly don't care for making phone calls on my Gear 2 Neo. If you aren't in a quiet room its near impossible to hear what they are saying.

To each their own.
But it's fascinating to know you don't like it.
I had the Gear 2 Neo for about a week and had good results when not standing in Time Square.
Gear Live 2!
I would like the ability to turn off the motion sensor, sense everytime I move my wrist a certain way my watch just turns on.I look at my watch ocassionally and notice that the screen is on I have indavertenly been touching the screen selecting things. I prefer to touch the screen to turn it on. I have already turned off the screen always on option, but would like to turn off motion as well. Would extend the battery life alot further.

i'm 100% in the not taking phone calls on a watch camp for the same reason i don't use speakerphone when not in a car.
but i would have liked a speaker simply for alarms and stopwatch/timer funcionality. nothing crazy, just a simple beep/chirp would have been enough

See, we can find common ground here! A speaker would make us both happy.
Surprised that Sammy decided to remove a hardware feature rather than adding them (to a point).
Their research must have shown that the cost/benefit was upside-down.
So it goes.
They should have stuck with Gear 2 features and gwear os. I'm sure it will be ported.... I love my Neo 2

I have a feeling that Samsung was forced to make the watch according to Google specifications. (No Speaker, No WiFi, Single Button for turning the device on) There is also a WiFi antenna in the Gear Live that is not being used according to iFixIt.

antenna but they couldn't confirm if there is a wifi controller on the mobo, could just be the cheapest way to order that part for assembly.
i agree that samsung was probably told to stick to the reference design which i'm fine with, but it's curious that google decided not to include a basic speaker for alarm use in the reference design for android wear.
i am however much happier (so far) with the watch than i expected to be. if moto prices the 360 out of what i'm willing to pay, i'm actually satisfied enough to hang on to the gear live until i can get the moto for a reasonable price (i won't pay more than $250 for the 360)

i like the general design of the gear 2, but i am so glad that android made wear, i see adoption for this from a developer standpoint to be much much better than any proprietary garbage os that samsung puts out. and personally, i dislike samsung devices (read: touchwiz) and plan to stay away from them for the foreseeable future.

I don't know, I've been reading about the gear watches and android wear all day and I still just don't see it. Anything that's on there I would normally pull up my phone for, and the small watch screen version and limited functionality (no speaker, small screen, etc)... I think if I get any notification I'll end up pulling out the phone and responding there anyway... Is this stuff just a lazy persons solution to a problem that doesn't exist?? If wear devices were more like little phones with built in wifi, IR (I think some gear watches had this?!), etc at least you could use it to control your movie watching experiences...
I'm probably just getting old and wanting stuff to stay how I'm used to it

I think that IS the point, so you don't have to pull your phone 100 times a minute for every notification, it is trying to "change" the way we use the phone and not trying to replace it. For all that "extras" (Wifi, Speaker, etc, etc) you have the phone.
I love it, I hardly touch my phone now, the battery life on my phone had gotten so much better and I am more interactive responding to all SMSs and facebook/Whasapp messages than before.

the watch essentially becomes a (more useful) implementation of notification triage, i can see what's important and respond to many things without taking out my phone.
it comes down to the user and their daily flow of usage. the big difference with this vs a very limited and closed off system (like samsung's system, or sony's for that matter) is that it leverages two things.
1. android itself as the platform (no seperate market, no need for seperate apps and figuring out how to make sure the apps work with the phone versions)
2. google now, which i think in the long run is going to be the real centerpiece of the platform. as it gets smarter you really will need to use your phone less for basic things since it will offer up the information you need when you need it with even less interaction necessary from the user.
the biggest deal breaker for the samsung system (for me) is the need for a crappy galaxy smartphone. i can't stand touchwiz and the lag samsung's software developers can't seem to get rid of in the many iterations they've had of their software.
i also enjoy the freedom of leaving my phone at my desk, or at home on the charging pad and just checking things on my watch as i go about my day.
i think i like android wear more as i don't want a tiny phone on my wrist to look awkwardly at and speak to people on. i want a companion device that lets me get on with my day and look at my phone less. it's a change in mindset and workflow that pulls you out of your phone and lets you get back into the world.
Yeah ... I'm constantly having to refer to my phone, more with this than I had to with my Galaxy Gear ... After two weeks with it, I feel like I'm done and ready to go back to the Galaxy Gear for good.
But I don't want to give up on it for some reason. I think because what it does do it look better than my Galaxy Gear, in terms of UI. And the always on is very nice.
I dunno ... Maybe I should have just gotten a Gear 2.

As I said in my previous post...I went from the Gear 2 Neo to the Live.
Found out it didn't have a speaker after I ordered it.
Tried it out for 3 days and (same as you) had to refer to my phone more.
Called Google to send it back and the Rep said "yea, surprisingly we're having allot of returns b/c of no speaker and many going back to Gear or Gear 2."
They sent me an email for to fill out stating why I'm returning. She said they're interested in feedback for the next model they release. I hope they listen.
I went back to my Gear 2 Neo and am patiently waiting for the next model (with speaker I hope).
They had the same with the Gear 1, made some changes and launched the Gear 2.
Don't waste your money on something you won't use and be happy with.
Wait for the Gear Live 2.
I think I'm going to suck it up though. When the next one comes out I'll gift it or sell it for $100 or so to subsidize the new one.
I recently received a Gear 2 for my Bday
I was excited and couldn't wait to play with it to see what it would do
Well I've had it going on 2 months now, to my displeasure the Gear 2 is useless IMO
1st the heart rate monitor doesn't monitor, you have to start it and 9xs out of 10 you have to restart it and it's mostly wrong, I've started 5xs conservatively and got a range from 65-95, WORTHLESS
2nd The pedometer, we'll it's never right, I can have the gear 2 sitting on coffee table and pick it up and it say I've walked 700 FT, WORTHLESS
3rd Apps, There are very very few apps that are worth downloading, unless you want a different watch face everyday, there are tons of watch faces and most of them are unattractive, plus I've purchased a few apps at the beginning and mostly none worked as advertised or they were very buggy, WORTHLESS
4th If I'm not mistaken Gear 2 came out in 2014 and here it is Nov 2014 and the Gear 2 is out of date, this thing was purchased for $299, luckily it was a gift, MAD
in my opinion Samsung screwed the consumer, Yes the phones are very good but on this watch thing it's an other issue, and a bad one
The reason I left the IPhone behind was because they are proprietary and now Samsung is doing the same thing
I'll be leaving Samsung behind also when contract is up
Thanks for the VENTING

I own the original galaxy gear and while I was running with andriod for the longest time, I decided to give tizen a try and it made the watch better imo. However, pedometer and all of its original apps worked flawlessly with both OS's, the only gripe I have with it is that I can't swap bracelets like the gear 2. What apps are you using for it? I'm using News replubic, fleksy messenger, calculator, instant settings, travel translator and a whole bunch of watch faces; all working well. Ive been hesitant to try any of the other apps as I feel they are unnecessary, for example all the FB, twitter and location apps. One more thing I'd like to share is that different apps are available for different model phones, don't know why samsung does this; I've been able to get most apps by modifying the build prop on S3 to make seem like it is a S5. The pedometer works with a movement motions sensor on the watch, not GPS, this is why the watch picks up a step you move the watch up and down or back and forth.
I use News Republic, calendar, and a different media controller other than stock
I am disappointed really due to the lack of quality apps and the watch is out dated so quickly, less than months old and it's outdated, uurrrr
I wish there was away to make it into an Android Wear
More apps, would be better all around
It just makes me mad the watch is outdated and the lack quality apps all $299
I work had for my money and sacrifice to get items
I've learned a valuable lesson

I agree with you. I love my Samsung phones, but I have had the Gear 1 since inception and the apps have not been good and very far and few in between. I feel as if the gear 1 users were just abandoned by Samsung. In fact the original gear wasn't even out a few months when they brought out gear 2. This is my last try at being an early adopter to any electronics.
One more thing. The only app that most gear 1 users really enjoyed was Watch Styler for making new watch faces and that was even taken away.

Yeah the best thing to do about this new gimmick watch thing is to sit back and wait till everyone not just Samsung gets it right
I'm still mad at Samsung for putting out gear 2 and then months later they put out another, and then quit supporting it, it's just wrong, They should of done it right the 1st time
Even though I like there phones I'm done with them, they are screwing the consumer by putting out these watches that are obsolete in 3 months
I just hope someone that's smart enough can transform my gear 2 to something more usable
I'll be waiting
The watch let's us reply to text using s voice, emojies, text templates and of you are using fleksy it even let's you reply by using the fleksy app from your watch. You can place and answer calls using s voice and have a conversation thru the watch of you are driving, etc. You can read articles with the news republic app, take pictures with it (not pro quality but the cam is great), it let's you control the media you are playing on your phone and it plays music you've stored on your watch to use thru bt headphones while jogging/exercising, it let's read alerts from different apps and while you cannot reply to most, you at least can see who is trying to get a hold of you and if it's important to reply right away, you can use s voice to do quick searches (even though is not as accurate as ok Google) but it works fine, you can use a calculator on it, control different settings on your phone from the watch, select different fonts and background wallpapers, you can also take voice notes and memos and sync them to your phone for storage. This is a companion device, that's all. I find it very functional, what else would you like it to do?
I don't think you understand what I'm saying
Samsung has abandon the gear 2 and any gear before and the gear 2 is not even a year old, no developer will make any new apps that's worth anything
Yes it's a companion device, so what new app has come along lately that's worth anything as a companion to your phone ? , none!!!!
Do you really read News Republic from your gear 2 , Do you really use Flexky to text from your gear 2
If you do the are a small majority
So you listen to your music on gear 2 hell I can do the same with my phone with all my music not just limited
These are the apps I use on my gear 2
I heart radio has a companion app for gear 2 if you download and use I heart radio, its not in the gear manager
Calendar app that shows holidays and one or 2 watch face that show you a glimpse of the weather
I have tried to find apps that look worth using but come to find out the apps are so buggy or they just don't work as advertised
The gear manager sucks, come on be honest
All I'm saying is Samsung abandoned the gear 2 and now has the Gear S, Android wear that they concentrating on
Have you seen any support from Samsung for the gear 2, no just here on XDA
would you buy a phone that would be obsolete in 2 months of getting it with zero support no updates, you can not get any apps for the gear 2 except from gear manager all other watches you can get apps from the play store that are worth something out of a 1000 apps on gear manager out, which is very little, except maybe 5 that at with anything
This is just about to be 2015,show me some innovation
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Free mobile app
Yeah I get what you mean, but I dont think the watches are obsolete just yet. I do agree that there isnt anything new for our watches cause all development as moved to newer watches. However, the gear S as doesnt attract me, specially its battery! come on now, such a large watch couldve had a bigger than 300mah battery, thats a big no no for me not to jump on it. Android wear is as good as our gear watches at the moment, im gonna wait for the new generation of watches that will come just like im waiting on the new generation of cell phones that will come, so that I dont regret buying something now that most devices are in transition to become better.
So tell me in 2 or 3 more generations of watches what you think you'll be able to do
I don't want to look like **** Track or Maxwell Smart, I hope you know who they are, Im telling my age now
I guess I expect to much from companies
I honestly believe they rely on there engineers heavily and don't listen to the average Joe on the street, (the consumer) I'm not bad mouthing engineers, I've worked around them for over 30 years now and if it wasn't for them we wouldn't have the advancements we now but I also know they can be the most stubborn and arrogant people I have been around
I actually believe this watch gimmick as I call it will be a bust
The screen is just to small to do anything with
Does anyone remember the old calculator watches back in the 70s and 80s,do you see thoughs anymore?
a watch is a watch, it gives you the time the date and maybe a timer or an alarm, that's it
Do you really want to look like an FBI agent talking to your wrist
OK I'm thru with my venting and rant
Thanks for letting me do that
See ya

Honestly I feel watches are gonna move in the direction of the new Gear S watch, towards being devices independent from a cell phone. The question is why? simply because there is some demand for it and because there a lot invested on it. Also, they are thinking about watches just like they think about cell phones, new version every 6 to 12 months, its all about marketing and extreme consumerism.; so all we have to do is not fall for every device and research about specs and actual usability. For example, the new Gear S is a nice device but samsung messed up when they put such a small battery (300 mah just like out Gear). We just have to shop smart, personally I love watches which is why I have a "smart watch"
I love gadgets, but I'm getting old and probably set in my ways
In my life right now it's about being practical
I hope that your right, because before I pass away I want to see technology grow beyond my wildness dreams
Shot I remember when microwaves were 1st sold and we've grown every sense
I actually love new technology and gadgets, but I'm sorry to say the watch thing is going to go south, maybe not in next 3-4 years but it will be gone
I hope I'm wrong and your right
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Free mobile app
I think smart watches do have a role to play, but they're not going that way. Yes, the screens are too small to surf the web or type emails etc. But what they're the right size for is to get strapped on my wrist where I can glance at them to see if it's worth pulling my phone out of my pocket right then and there (when I'm on my bike, or driving, or doing things). They're also great for taking a QUICK phone call when my hands are full or I'm busy, long enough to say "hold on a sec" or "I'll call you right back".
So much missing the point.
All I'm trying to say is are these watches worth the 199-299 price tag just so me and you can glance down to see who's calling us just because we are to lazy to pull our phones out of our back pocket
One more time as I've mentioned in the above threads
I have a gear 2 which was released this year 2014 which I wear every day and it's already obsolete, Samsung hasn't done one thing to the watch since release and there not going too, they have moved on to the Gear S and/or Android wear, the developers have stopped making apps for it and the apps that are out there are very buggy, they aren't worth using, so by the end of the year my gear 2 will be an expensive watch that will be doing the same thing an 35 dollar Timex will do, which is give me the time, the date, a stopwatch, etc
Maybe other smart watch makers will be OK and make some decent smart watches for the consumer but Samsung has pissed me off by taking mine and your money for a watch they knew they were going to stop supporting after a few months on the market and that's just wrong, period
There's nothing you can say to defend that unless you know a major change coming
I hope the smart watch trend works out, I love gadgets, I love technology but I will not spend my hard earned money on something that's doomed by the manufacturer from the beginning which right now is Samsung
In the business world if you want to keep your customers coming back you must treat your customers right
Yes I'm mad at Samsung for deserting me and others, they've showed no loyalty
So when it all said and done, I'm going to desert Samsung and show no loyalty to them
I'm hoping that there will be a developer out there that will be able root this gear 2 and make it useable in the future as an android device not a dedicated Tizen /Samsung device

I realized I was sloppy and vague in my earlier post, so to fix that: "so much missing the point" was meant to apply to Samsung & smartwatch makers in general, and not Lonestarman and Rsmin, with whom I substantially agree. I just wish the focus could be on doing the simple things (email, messaging, notifications, maps) *well*; after that, anything else is gravy. At least for how I roll.
I can't begin to tell you how peeved I am that Sammy's latest few Manager updates broke rich notifications.
Ha! You guys are insane! I love my Gear watch. I have the original gear watch and I found it useful in more ways than one. Take my post light heatedly guys, I know each situation is different for everyone.
For those of you with gripes about the apps and functionality, you need to seriously sit back and re-think what it is you thought this watch could do. Being able to see messages because you are too lazy to pull it out of your pocket is ludicrous. I drive a lot for work, not only that, when I am in the office I am often in different team members cubes assisting with something. I don't have to pull my phone out of my pocket and fumble around with the side key then swipe up and enter messages to see who just messaged. It's there at a quick glance. I don't have to unplug my phone each time I walk away from my desk so I don't miss a call.
If I am at a team members desk and my phone is ringing (usually on silent) I know about it. I have missed many, many important calls before simply because I forgot my phone was on silent or I was away from my desk. With this watch, I am alerted no matter what. You're telling me that alone isn't worth the price tag?
What about when you are driving and your wife asks you to bring something home for dinner. All the food places are miles from your home. You get home, only to realize you missed the call, and have to go back out. This has happened to me also.
These situations may be specific to me, but reading all these negative posts leads me to believe you all thought your watches would become your wives. Cooking dinner for you, rubbing your feet, telling you how great you look in those new skinny jeans of yours. It's not a "fleshgear" gents. And the pedometer and heart rate sensor? Of course it's not going to work! LOLOL. It's a stupid gimmick Samsung keeps throwing in all their ****, everyone knows this, and you should have too.
I have found usefulness in quickly telling someone the weather in the coffee room while my phones at my desk. I used the calculator daily. I use the vrecord app to take pictures of me and my family on Halloween from my phone that was set 10 feet away. I use the media control to control the music on my phone connected to a blue tooth speaker while my phone is in the other room charging. I use svoice to send texts and make calls right from the watch. I find it most useful at home, when I move about the house and the phone is charging in the cradle.
This is an accurate portrayal of all the things this watch can do, and I have a first gen. Please don't write something nasty back, I won't bother answering you. These are my 2pennies and information for anyone who might be thinking about grabbing a first gen gear on A4C.com for $84 and free shipping.
Best of luck to you all,
-Dave

Oh, and I do agree Gear Manager sucks. Samsung is the WORST about updates.
I am getting depressed reading this forum. Seems every other thread is a moan about the Note 8.
I understand its 'normal' to join a forum to ask questions and indeed have an occasional rant BUT there used to be a balance going way back of praise and moans. Not the case these days?
I find the Note 8 a superb mobile device, even more accomplished than both my beloved and missed Note 7's.
We are never going to encounter the perfect device, there will always be room for improvement and as time passes technology generally advances and we receive even more accomplished smart phones. Such advancement should never end meaning perfection will always be a goal and never achievable.
When I hold my Note 8 and think back just 10 years to when the first smartphone was introduced...there is zero comparison and I hope the next 10 years will produce the same result's. Until then I am going to enjoy my Note 8 despite all the negatives here and on Youtube etc. There is an awful lot of 'sour grapes' in the world of technology and its getting worse.
I say well done to Samsung. The Note 8 is a marvel of technology. Oh and those who purchase it and don't use the S-pen please see some Youtube clips of the functionality of the pen, its just amazing and should be utilised to be appreciated.

If you're looking for a Note 8 lovefest, there's always r/GalaxyNote8. I think the people at xda are quite a bit more demanding and well-informed, though, so the ratio of complaints to praise is simply going to be higher.
My only complaint is that the s-pen dock isn't on the left, since I'm a southpaw

Well ****....
I have found out that I have no light bleed,no burn in on nav bar,no malfunction on zoom lense,no factory defect on battery, no stuttering during gallery scrolls and last but not least ,no trouble getting the FP sensor to work.
I kinda see what you mean and was noticing something off. I have been in and out of XDA for awhile and something really has changed. I don't know if it is general negativity or just plain looking and expecting to find something wrong.
I ,however, think this is the best damn phone I have ever had, even better the the Note 7's. I thought I would hate the home key being gone and the FP sensor location , but I love them both now. The auto hide on the nav bar is the bomb! It also feels natural for me the hit the FP sensor lefty or righty and never seem to smudge the camera. My battery life is unbelievable, yesterday alone I took off charger at 5 am and at 10pm I was at 42% with 5 hours screen on time and 6 hours of DI.FM streaming, on Wi-Fi, with fine location on,full resolution and brightness at 80 percent. I have also switched to using the Samsung apps (email, calendar, and internet..) over the Google apps as I find they work alot better for me.
After a week , I really would say that I could see myself running this device 2 years. The note 9 would have to really break the mold to convince me to leave this phone. All of this and it is stock, not rooted.
I think maybe all the negativity will calm down in a month or so. Perhaps it's just the high price that has driven some to find every chance they can to complain because the feel 1000 dollars = perfect.

I consider your perspective interesting as I was thinking that there didn't seem to be nearly the number of complaints as there always is. No matter what device it is, there are always going to be the standard battery and screen tint threads. They're there, but they don't seem to be blowing up like they usually do. My wife has her phone and I have to say that it has the most evenly lit screen of any electronic device that I've ever seen.
This is a short list of things that I pay attention to when getting a new phone.
Screen tints
Uneven backlighting
Build quality, creakiness, etc...
I am quite sensitive to screen quality issues like uneven backlighting and tints. My Note 4 has always had uneven lighting and is more yellow in the middle of the screen. It's always bugged me, but I know that there's no such thing as a perfect screen and I try to keep in mind when deciding to keep a device.
My biggest complaint so far is that I still don't have it, as FedEx lost it and I'm still waiting for its replacement to come via UPS. When I do get it, I'll use it for a while. If there is something that I don't like about it or consider a deal breaker, I'll just return it and either get something else, or stay on my Note 4. It's just a phone. I'm not tied to my electronic devices. They are tools for me to accomplish things, and nothing else. The way some people talk about these things, you'd think that they gave birth to them.
If you want to see a completely dysfunctional community, take a look at the MacRumors forums. Whenever a new iPhone comes out, I get a big bowl of popcorn and head over there and watch it all unfold. It's a true study in group human behavior. It has been a bit of a letdown this year, so far, because nobody seems to care about the iPhone 8. Might have to hold off on that bowl of popcorn until the X comes out.

Yup. This time it was shipped UPS with signature required. Best Buy isn't taking any chances this time around.

I find you'll live a much more enriched life if you don't spend so much time lamenting the negative opinions of others about something that you enjoy, yourself. Okay, there's many folks moaning about this or that, how is that meant to apply to your personal experience? How is that meant to intrude into your own enjoyment of YOUR device?
I strongly suggest you needn't concern yourself with how negatively others view the phone that you are enjoying thoroughly. Screw that noise and enjoy your new phone. Seriously, life is too short to dwell on such nonsense. You like the phone? Awesome, let those sour grapes continue moaning on whilst you continue having fun using your new phone.
Personally, I use these forums to seek advice on various topics dealing with the phone that I'm currently using and to lend my support wherever I'm able to. I try not to spend any real amount of time engaging in pointless discussion about whether or not this phone is great or if this other phone is better or what kind of phone other people should be using in place of this one. It's all nonsense.
Do you, boo boo. Do you and be happy with what you got.

This is better than the 7 which was my favorite phone of all time. By no means perfect but worth being happy about.

Exactly. I follow most flagship device launches and compared to many that I've seen, this is tame. There's a combination of valid complaints and imagined issues here, just like with every phone. It just seems like there aren't as many complaints as I usually see.

XDA, "land of the Whiners"...
If you've been here awhile, you learn to just ignore them, and/or you just dont come around for a few weeks/months/years, and you forget how it is for awhile..
I agree with you, this is a great phone, and I stopped looking for every little nit picky thing years ago when it comes to cell phones; these are a mass produced piece of electronics, NOT a custom built nuclear reactor, and to think they are going to be 1000% perfect without flaws is just silly..
Well... If they were to make me the lead designer and give me the corporate clout to make it stick I'm pretty sure I could make a phone that was 72% perfect. I want stuff that hasn't been invented yet!
Seriously though how many people do you know that wouldn't rather have a phone a few millimeters thicker and more battery? This isn't just a shot at the Note8, most people I know use cases not just because of the drop protection but because they're getting too thin to hold comfortably nowadays. There was a time when I was all over thin but I'm over it, in fact over it is a ways behind me now. And honestly, dual speakers, yeah. You can make the earpiece a speaker like others have done and greatly improve sound for a few cents. We're not talking about making a resonant chamber, adding a sub, just up the ante a few cents on the call speaker and we've got a lot more sound. This is a 1k smartphone not a Wally World on sale flip where single speakers belong. Do I even need to mention the fingerprint scanner location? What a slap in the face. I'm running Samsung and whoever suggested that would have been pulled out of the meeting by a couple of great big security guards who would have unceremoniously threw him or her to the curb making sure to hit his or her head on every object along the way. Then while laying on the curb they would have kicked them where it hurts until there was absolutely no way they could ever breed. If they had bred someone would have to be sent out to their house to do what was necessary to protect the human gene pool.
Oh, BTW, I'm happy with the phone. If it wasn't for the fingerprint scanner I would probably keep it for some time, maybe as long as the spring releases. Phones have become very good now so I don't feel much reason to upgrade every time something new comes along like I used to do. On the other hand the fingerprint scanner is a major irritant to me. I don't like rear scanners in the first place because I often use my phone on the desk where they obviously don't work without picking up the phone. Iris and facial don't work there either. I could get over that if at least it was placed decently and worked well when I'm out and about but it isn't and doesn't work as well or as quickly as a yesterdays tech One+ that cost less than half as much.
Bottom line, it's the best phone money can buy despite it's flaws. I just hope that every person who approved the fingerprint scanner placement all the way up the line found themselves on the curb, neutered, and without work.
yeah, I hate anything back there; I got rid of a couple LG phones for that same reason; I dont like ANYTHING except the camera lens on back...
And, yeah, they should have put stereo speakers on this thing, unless there is some engineering reason for it, and a bigger battery would have made more sense..
Frankly, I think most of these electronic mfgs eventually add most of the things people complain about; there is a SD card slot on this phone now, after the uproar when they dropped it.
Maybe the note 9 will have stereo speakers, and the note 10 will have a larger battery..I'm sure the plans for the next releases have already been somewhat finalized, so time will tell.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8 0 with S Pen 2019 LTE (SM-P205)
1. Unboxing & Impressions - https://youtu.be/Jzic9JeDBdE
I am surprised that this Galaxy Tab A 8.0 is more closer related to Nexus 7 than the previous model it replaces. It should be on a buy list for anyone wanting to replace their Nexus 7 or Tab A 8.0 2015. Other than the limited 32GB storage size, I absolutely think is is a great budget tab at less than 250USD.
2. Camera Photos & Videos - https://youtu.be/nirrHFIWLWw
This tab blew me away by being able to edit videos and export to 4K. It's punching way above the budget price point. Why didn't Samsung give this a minimum 64Gb storage instead of just 32GB. This is a great little budget tab for on the move YouTubers.
Note: All photos 3264 x 2448 dpi and videos 1920 x 1080 @ 288 kbps shot with this tablet, edited and exported to 4K via Cyberlink Powerdirector Android mobile paid app.
3. Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8 0 2019 Water Battery Gaming Test - https://youtu.be/KTR2U4jKXVo
Samsung Tab A 8 0 2015 - 4hrs 10mins (4 years old battery) vs Samsung Tab A 8 0 2019 - 6hrs 10mins (new battery)
4. World's Tallest Rain Waterfall at Jewel Changi Airport - Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 2019 shot & edit this video. Use Cinema FV-5 to unlock the camera dpi. Samsung could had enabled this camera with EIS but they didn't such a waste! https://youtu.be/ykL4lavuEok

5. Unboxing Hands-on a 3rd party Wireless Keyboard Cover for the Samsung Tab A 8.0 with Spen 2019 P200 & P205 models. Simple easy to setup and use bluetooth magnetic keyboard cover. This is most suitable for work on the go paired with the Spen nothing can stop you from finishing your work. https://youtu.be/fUeCzhR6WlY

Yes no one else can do a tab with pen like Samsung. They should have given it 4GB Ram + 64GB for the same price. It will be a hot seller if they did it. Just uploaded the other tests have a look & comment in video ok thks!
I just got one and absolutely love it. Best design and features and the perfect size. If only we could soon get root for it.. dream dream..

Yep. This one nailed it! I couldn't ask for a better way to wake up the screen especially when its lying flat. :highfive:
This tab looks really good!
Can it actually make phone calls? (voice calls/ gsm calls)
If it can (and it has the proper earspeaker), then I could see this being my primary phone.
I only ever make calls around once a month anyway.
TLDR; Can this tablet make phone calls like a normal phone?
Yes the LTE model P205. They also sell the wifi model P200 so don't get the wrong model.
Anyone know which region firmware is best for usa?
My tablet is using tgy code which apparently is hong kong region.
I'm not having any issues but if another one is better then I'll download and flash.
is DEX installed?

In the specs it lists an RGB light sensor. Can anyone verify that the screen brightness adjusts automatically based on ambient light? (This is a feature that most inexpensive tablets don't have).
Thanks!

I can confirm that there is an adaptive brightness setting that will dim the screen in low-light conditions.
how to root?
does it have a fingerprint reader? I presume not. I'm going to order anyway, with LTE. I wish Samsung also had a model without the S-pen. I'm not using it, and I could save some cost.
On the other hand, given the confusing array of tablets all named Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8", the presence of the S-pen is a nice distinguishing feature. Yesterday, I was standing in a respectable shop and I was unable to tell whether the tablet I was holding was 2017 or 2019.
Any idea where to buy the tablet? It's not available in the US and the only website I found was some sketchy foreign site that's based in Hong Kong. Would love to have this tablet just to doodle and mess with, and especially since I'm heading to Alaska for vacation in August. Don't wanna bring my laptop (which was $1600) in fear of losing it. The price was really good on the website (it was listed as US $240, I believe), but I don't want to risk it, and Carphone Warehouse doesn't seem to have it yet after I looked around on their site.
If it gets to be too much of a hassle, though, I might just bite the bullet and get the 10.1 size 2016 version just so I could have the S Pen. It's a bit more expensive at $330, but I think it's still a good value, IMO.
hi Pegasus, yesterday I ordered the tablet from presumably the same website you saw:
https://www.tobydealsau.com/en_AU/product/samsung-galaxy-tab-a-8-sm-p205-3gb-32gb-lte-gray-3.html
I'm in Australia and for us the name of the website ends with AU, as if it was some local outfit. I also saw a similar name ending in UK.
I hope it arrives by end of the month. It is indeed cheap, but no so cheap to leave it in the snow overnight. Is Alaska snow-free at this time of the year ?
The reviews for this website were relatively good. Except there is practically no warranty, so I'm taking a gamble, trusting the Samsung brand.

Hey mate, I was skeptical about TobyDeals since the reviews for it were terrible, but saw a few people on Whirlpool who made the jump and received it.
I took the jump as well last Thursday and ordered the Wifi-only one for 322$, decent price considering Kogan were selling it for 399$.
Got email notifications from TobyDeals every single day regarding the order, and was dispatched on Friday.
Just received the parcel today, haven't opened it yet since I'm at work but will do when I get home.
I can feel that it is decently bubble-wrapped inside the parcel.
That's really fast shipping, way quicker than most sellers on AliExpress. Very impressed so far. Will definitely look into buying from them again, their price include GST and are really competitive.
AliExpress you now have to pay GST on top of the advertised price...
I reckon you'll have yours on Friday/Monday, if Toll Express doesn't stuff you around. I've had some shockers with them haha...
Will update you as soon as I open it
> the Wifi-only one for 322$ <
The LTE difference was less than $50, so I ordered the one with a SIM card. I don't intend to use it a lot outside the home, but I shall see. Perhaps I'll have a $10 Boost SIM in it for those rare occasions when I take it outside.
Based on some fairly reliable sources we're getting a clearer picture of changes planned for the S22 Ultra. It's morphing into a Note like offering with a dedicated S-Pen slot and a more squared body. Samsung won't be releasing a Note 21 and why should they? Display and battery size are reduced, cameras have some minor upgrades and possibly vapor cooling. The other noticeable difference is the Exynos SoC which will pair with AMD for superior graphics processing even though benchmarks are comparable to the Snapdragon 888. It's still a wait and see since the rollout is anticipated in January or February 2022 but if these projections prove accurate I'll pass on S22. Not a fan of S-Pen or the boxed styling and beyond these there isn't enough game changing innovation to consider making a change.

That display looks horrible... bad artist or bad Samsung?
Meh just bought a second new N10+ running Q.
It's color rendering exceeds some of the newer displays and is a proven workhorse that's fun to use.
Android R and above are rotten Apples
Samsung's track record since the 10+ has been subpar. I'll likely wait 2 or more years before switching platforms.
I don't have the patience for Android's and Samsung's bs. Too late, too slow and the wrong moves, you lose.
Meanwhile I'm quit happy with my little 10+ family. Lol, I'm still exploring them. My oldest 10+ is 2 years old, has had 1 replacement battery, looks and runs like it's new. It's OS load is almost 1.5 years old, still running fast and stable with minimal maintenance.
I don't use the spen a lot but it nests away painlessly when not in use. The bt remote shutter release and Smart Select are excellent when you need them.
So yeah, I like the spen.
There are still a few new unlocked Note 10+'s 256gb/12gb ram Snapdragon/Q variants out there. Grab one up if you want one... they be sweet.
No upgrade for me, the S21 Ultra is very similar to my S20 Ultra, not worth the upgrade IMHO. That rendering looks hideous, and the specs being mentioned so far are not worth an upgrade.

1.5 years This phone gets heavy usage. Next one may replaced sooner to avoid another failure. I was lucky the display wasn't damaged.
Battery replacement is fairly easy.
Otherwise nothing failed or broke. Display looks as good as the new one and both are perfect.
No complaints on the 10+.
Not this time. I don't think phones are making that big a leap now with regards to upgrading. I did from the s20+ to the s21 ultra and to be honest whilst the ultras great I really don't need better
Battery reduced?
But not to worry we've given you a faster charger.

Update - Charging speed for all models stays at 25W. Here's my take, unless you trade-in your device or accept a long term contract with a service provider you'll drop a significant bundle of $$$ to "upgrade" for a device which in many aspects isn't any better than the S21. I will definitely pass on the S22 and if Samsung doesn't get it's act together I'll downgrade to a much better value in the A72 or S22 FE. So you'll lose a more powerful chipset and some camera options but for about half the price you'll get most of the bells and whistles plus the MicroSD and 3.5 Jack. I really question the VALUE aspect in not only the S22 but the Fold 3 as well, it just doesn't stack up.
I'm on the otherside with the S-pen, I was on the fence going from the S20u to S21u, and after doing a camera review for youtube, I was debating returning it because it's essentially the identical phone with the reduction of microSD, but the though of using an S-pen gets rid of many note books I have laying around.
Now, to date, I still haven't purchased the S-pen because I got the silver phone and the only case they offered with the S-pen was black and covers the entire camera area, which defeats the purpose of getting the silver phone when the entire thing ends up being black anyway.
They now have aftermarket S-pen cases and one of which is clear so I can still visibly see the silver phone. It's been in my Amazon cart for awhile now but the renders of this S22 with the S-pen integrated are stopping me from hitting the checkout button when I could just wait it out and it's included with the phone lol
I was just going to buy the S-pen Pro but after seeing the price tag on that thing, I'll stick to a hoard of notebooks and pens. I take a lot of notes, and I'm going to assume that over the last 10 years, I haven't spent as much on notebooks and pens as the price of that stupid S-pen Pro.. it's.. literally insane lol

Im Not sure if there are enough reasona to upgrade. But i love the boxy note Design... Had the note 20 ultra and it was beautyful, shame that Samsung had the ****ty exynos... I returned it. But i think battery will be smaller than s21 ultra...
I'll be upgrading to a different device. And I can't wait! My S21U has been quite a let down as it has always had some odd issues that seem to be software based... But since those issues also occur after a full device wipe and Android reinstallation, I'm starting to assume that there were a bunch of manufacturing issues with this phone... And with the Samsung devices I have bought in the past, I've always gotten unlucky. Goodbye, folks

I saw that, the spen pro.
Samsung at their half baked finest
Meh, the N10+ blows it away with a completely self contained, fully functional spen.
I bought my 2nd new N10+ 2 weeks ago. No regrets... these buggers look gorgeous and run great. Running on P and Q; there will be no downgrade to R for me.
I use the spen mostly as a remote shutter release and for Smart Capture. Otherwise it hides safely out of sight.
Both Android and Samsung have lost their way... really badly, but like a drunk lost in the desert they have high hopes.

The N10+/256/12gb,Pie or Q/Snapdragon rocks. If you don't care about rooting box sealed new ones are still available for $800. Got my 2nd one 2 weeks ago, pristine perfect. Runs great maybe even better than my Pie variant.

New ones are very hard to find now even stateside.
A lot of scams going on now too; be careful.
As for warranty I wouldn't be too concerned as the 10+'s tend to be very reliable with an excellent build, they are rocks. Just test the hell out of it including a ScreenTest. It should do fine.
PM if you want that stateside dealer. It's the US unlocked variant running on Q. Unless you want to root it's the more desirable variant; all the Snapdragon variants use the vapor/copper heat sink, none have the graphene one.

Talk to the vendor, they ship FedEx stateside for free. Not sure about customs etc for offshore.
Make sure it's compatible with your carrier.
I have AT&T, put the sim card in and it was good to go. Sent you a link via PM.
