I was wondering if it was possible to use ums on the kindle fire hd, so I can use it on my gaming consoles, apparently it needs a kernel.

No, nothing has been able to make this happen yet. There has been some talk about it from time to time but no dice yet on the KFHD and beyond series. I think the original Kindle Fire can with a cord setup though.

Just out of curiousity has anyone heard of anyone else working on rooting the new kindle fire?
Havnt seen much of any activity on v. 10.1.3 work at all...
I know I can't do it myself so I'd like to know if anyone is even working on it yet xD
Cant wait to get a full port of any android operating system on this thing...
The new kindle fire wont even let you use a launcher so this book shelf thing is looking pretty lame...
Anyways back to the main subject at hand here;
I'm not a coder and I most liekly never will be, Although heres what I can offer; If anyone needs a tester just shoot me a message or post here!
I'm on system Version 10.1.3 by the way.
I am interested on this too. Thanks.

I am confused. What device are we talking about here?
Kindle fire HD 7" has already been rooted. If you are talking about the bootloader, it has not been cracked yet, so no custom roms.
If you are asking about the KF 2nd gen, then this is the wrong section.

The KF2 got merged with 7" KFHD a couple of days ago.

Yep posted a while ago, I'm pretty sure they merged them because most kfhd exploits work on kf2

k, didn't notice the merge. Saw the sticky this morning.
I just rooted my Kindle fire (non HD) using the HD method.
Worked perfect the first time.
Im not a coder or a developer but I got it to work for me
I have an older tablet (gtab) running 10.1 that my kid uses, while I use the kindle 8.9. It'd be nice to use Amazon's "Kindle FreeTime" on the gtab, but to do so I imagine I'd have to use Kindle's launcher. After rooting, installing CM 10/9 is it possible to simulate a kindle on another tablet? Would it be equivalent to making a Kindle ROM?

It's possible...

Is it worth the trouble to port it to your device? I guess that's up to whoever would be willing to put the work into it.
Has anyone considered or know if it is possible to build a rom for this based on the stock kindle fire hd? If so I would be interested in trying.

I read this and thought it was sort of a goofy question at first but now you've got me thinking...
What happens if you install a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 ROM on the Nook HD+? For that matter, has anyone tried a stock Kindle Fire HD 8.9 restore? I know there are boot loader differences but I'm thinking leave the Nook HD+ bootloader or (working) custom recovery intact. Just the ROM itself. They're both OMAP 4 based - granted the Kindle has cameras and the Nook has the micro SD slot but they're pretty close to the same hardware-wise.
I'm intrigued to think I might be able to have my Nook think it's actually a Kindle Fire HD 8.9...
Thoughts?
Browsing around on the Kindle 8.9 Dev forum found this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41301028
It mentions there being some secret data related to Amazon registration, along with serial # of the device. Given that, its probably not nearly as simple as getting a stock KF 8.9 ROM running on the Nook. You'd likely need a backup of the partition that post is referencing too. Also, could be that the Nook is using that area for something.
Very complex mess ... If you did happen to own both devices I guess you might be able to make your Nook spoof being your Kindle. Otherwise your best case I can imagine is your Nook is spoofing being someone else's Kindle which Amazon & that other Kindle's actual owner might not appreciate...

Ive been searching for a way to download Kindle Fire specific apps from the Amazon store to my Nook HD plus running cyanogen. Ive been "purchasing" the free Amazon app of the day for weeks, but a lot of them will only run on the kindle fire. You can purchase the app, but you cant download the kindle specific app unless you have a kindle fire.
As an alternative, has anyone tested downloading a kindle fire specific app, and copying the files over to another android device? Would the app still run?
I have very serious doubts on the information presented on the kindle fire hd.
I purchased this tablet (99€ ) (http://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B0083PWAWU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A11IL2PNWYJU7H) and I do not know if this is the first, the second or maybe the third generation kindle fire hd?
I do not know if the roms in the forum (modding area) refer to my tablet and looking at the site of cyanogenmod.com I noticed that there are 2 versions of the kindle fire, otter and otter2, but nothing for kindle fire hd . To which I must refer to my tablet?
Thank you!
PS. I apologize for my English
If I had to take a guess it is a kindle fire hd 7” 2012 model, and BTW there are 4 code names outside of the stuff that came out this year, they are otter, otter2, Tate, and jem. The 7" HD is a Tate model. I'm only basing this on the fact it was labeled at 7" model, but you can see the front facing camera in the pic that the 2013 models don't have. The HD model's cyanogen mod aren't listed on their website because they aren't official yet, you have to learn the process for flashing ROMs on kindles here because it's not as straight forward as some devices like the first gen kindle, and the ROMs are also posted here at xda in the development section.

I agree with stunts. Also, from the ad "Share your screen with the HDMI output Share your favorite photos and videos on your TV or other high definition screens via integrated HDMI port." The 2013 KFHD7 does not have and HDMI output. Pull down from the top > click more > click on device > now you can see the version you are using. 7.xxx is the Kindle Fire HD 7 2012 model
unfourtinaly EVERY SINGLE guide is for the kindle fire hd 8.9 intch i have a fastboot cable (that is utterly useless at theis point cuz no wau to do it) and some how my moms kindle fire hd did a factory reset and now the firmware is all ****ed up. i thught looking up "unbrick kindle fire hd 7" would turn up the results i need but all i get is for the 8.9 inch, and that ofc is NOT compatable with my ghettho 7 inch. ive done all the normal resaerh tricks like "kindle fire hd 7 unbrick -8.9" so is there even way to do it? i know there is but everything i find is eaither "404" or "sorry this page dose not exist ANYMORE" or its for 8.9 ONLY. this is so annoying NO SITE has a stright forward way to do what ppl can do to there 8.9 inch devices.
