[Q] My Settings App is gone, and the Phone kind of useless! - LG Optimus 4X HD

I got the OnePlus one, so I decided to factory reset my old Lg p880 4x hd, because i want to use it for emulating retro games and stuff like that. but after the reset, my settings application (LGSettings3_2.apk) was gone. I thought it was a simple bug, and restarted the phone again, but this time it sent me to the Setup Wizard. Nothing bad, but as I selected my language (german) and hit Go, it just sais: lgsetupwizard has stopped working all the time. My computer does not accept the phone, which means I cant access the internal storage to do things. i tried an apk installer, but it does not recognize my phone, too. Now, my question is, is there a way to install the settings app via an sdcard through the recovery menu? I searched for it, but in my recovery, there somehow is no option like "install from external storage", like there should be. Thank you very much for your help, and sorry if there are any mistakes, english is not my mothertongue

Another cry topic? WM6 bug

Yes, probably topic #1000 about this. But PLEASE keep reading.
I got the famous WM6 bug/error/whatever.
Symptoms:
- Access is denied error message when trying to copy files to the phone using ActiveSync.
- Access is denied error message when trying to delete any files or copy files between folders and/or the storage card on the phone.
- You do not have permission to download that type of file in Internet Explorer when trying to download any files.
- No programs show up in Remove Programs.
- Installation Unsuccessful error messages when trying to install any applications.
- ActiveSync will fail with an error message that you should start the troubleshooter.
It might have something to do with F-Secure I installed, and tried to uninstall (which ofcourse is impossible, since no programs show up in my installed programs/delete programs list). However, tons of ppl have had the same problem before so it has probably have nothing to do with F-Secure.
Now about the famous fix (which can be found for example here).
It's not working for me. Yes I tried this fix like 10 times, exactly like its written, sometimes a bit different, not using bold but Italic etc etc. I find #12 an inconsitency for example, since shutting it down and THEN doing a soft reset doesnt make any sense to me. Anyway I did like it said, and I still have all the problems I've had before.
My question: is there anyone that has had this bug before and DID fix it, or is there anyone that knows how to fix it after all? Or, last but not least, is there someone willing to rewrite the fix in uber noobish language, step by step, that might help me fix this. I'm quite desperate and totally not looking forward to hard reset my device. Thnx in advance
Some device information:
ROM Version: 1.93.404.1 NLD
ROM Datum: 07/10/08
Radioversion: 1.00.25.05
Protocolversion: 52.29.25.12H
Dutch provider Hi
No new roms installed, flashed stuff nothing. Just tweaks and programs installed.
I'm wondering if I should leave it like it is now and be patient for replys, or move/recreate this topic somewhere more "windows mobile"-like, since it might have something to do with the OS itself, and not just my kind of mobilephone ...
Sorry to hear your problem. I'd came across the problem once and YES the fix doesn't cure all the problem.
Luckily i've backup my PDA using sprite before the problem starts. What i did: 1) Hard reset the device. It will CLEAR ALL the memory and restore to factory default.
2) Reapply my first backup. (if you have it, if not, just reinstall everything). Remember though your backup in activesync might not be sync again! - that what happen to me. Luckily i have a copy in my Hermes.
3) My PDA is back to normal!
4) Careful when you modding your PDA. Just don't get mad to those that tries to help, some might not work on your device depends on what ROM you're/they're using. If anything goes wrong, just accept the fact that its your fault and -ALWAYS- have a backup ready. Just Hard Reset.
And I'm sure you're familiar with the lack-of-a-backup-till-I-need-it thingy ... I'll go mayhem on MSWM if I'm losing my photos and texts ... Contacts I can copy or just rewrite, but damn, my photos :s Thnx for the reply tho.
If you keep it synced with your computer/outlook, there shouldn't be much of a problem.
Ever since my first WM device, I've kept a list of all changed settings, etc. A hard reset isn't really that big of a deal. You do it, reinstall a few apps you had, change some settings from the cheat sheet you keep, sync with outlook, and you're good to go.
Think of your Diamond as a slave device to your regular PC. Sure, you apply a few tweaks to it, but other than that all your data should be on your PC.
Yeah and foto's and text messages and contacts ?? All gone, hard reset not that much of a deal I find it quite frustrating =(

smart resident.exe problem

Hello folks!
I got a problem with the smart resident.exe.
When my Xperia (running TouchIT v10.3) starts up I get the message that smart resident.exe couldnt be found and I should eventually reinstall it.
programms which require smart resident like slovo ed sadly dont work for me
how can I fix this?
The screen that pops up looks like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=158253&d=1234889244
only that its on my xperia
EDIT: can somebiody with touch x attach their smart resident file so that I can simply copy it over to my device and see if it works?!
Uninstall SlovoEd.
Go to "My Device/Windows/StartUp"
There you should find Smart Resident.lnk, delete that and it should be fine.
Well that worked for me.
I know that slovoEd hast this smart resident lnk file.
Its like you sayd in device\windows\startup and there its called Solovoed 7.lnk and this points out to:
device\windows\slovoed 7\smart resident.exe but this smart resident.exe isnt there!
I got the error message (from the attached image file) even before slovoed was installed
Reinstalling a SlovoEd dictionary (Talking Concise Oxford English Dictionary for Windows Mobile) solved this problem for me.
Hi
unfortunatly i have this problem and I couldn't delete this file.
pleas help me.
thanks
bye

I installed my language version & it did the trick. BTW: I noticed that for whatever reason, SlovoEd had "uninstalled" (?) itself. Meaning: I had not used it in a while & it was not visible in the Menu structure any longer. Without having checked: probably most files were still there.
Hi
go to my device/windows/startup
and delet ( Slovoed )
I did it and my problem solved.
say if that worked or no .
Reviving an older thread here...
it seems like there has been no proper solution this far. there is a few things one can do. they have been posted up above already. unfortunately this thread does not clarify what actually happens there.
let me try to add some info/findings of my own.
SmartResident.exe appears to be a module which sits in the memory, resident. i was not able to figure out what it is meant to do there tho, since the english or german menu items in SlovoEd, the donor of that little nuisance, are so totally badly translated that i couldn't gather their meaning.
I suppose that it is meant to catch words one marks and translates them via right-click or so, similar to babylon's pretty neat function.
It does not succeed in doing so tho. Hence it is useless.
What might be the reason for the warning at boottime? The missing Resident? Well, there is at least two reasons: either u did a hard reset and it just got wiped or u installed a new ROM while u kept SlovoEd on the storage card. This would have wiped the resident as well since it is not located on the card but always on main mem. And of course it might well be that u just messed with ur files and accidentally deleted the resident...
So, how to get rid of it? Mainly read above. Summary below.
1.) u can try to "fix" up the SlovoEd.lnk or SmartResident.lnk file in the \\windows\AutoStart\ or alternatively \\windows\StartUp\ folders. Just open them with a text editor and put in some crap, point them to some useless executable file.
2.) run a script each shutdown time to delete the .lnk file. eg MortScript or so.
3.) Re-Run any SlovoEd Dictionary or Engine Installer. When using a Dictionary-Installer make sure to select engine-setup as well since this will place the Resident into \\windows\SlovoEd 7\ where it is supposed to sit. Note: this will NOT get rid of the resident but fix a corrupt installation and thus make the annoying warning at boottime disappear.
4. option 4 will be my pref. keep a backup of SmartResident.exe in the SlovoEd 7 folder on the card and just copy it back over to its original location in case it gets destroyed...
cheers,
Sneaky

[Help needed] Doubts about my milestone. - Solved ,thanks

Hello, i'm new to this forum, i would like to thank you for taking your time to help me out.
First, i had a clean Starhub 2.1 android running milestone with update1, i flashed the G.O.T open recovery's of STAR_36_GOT_SERVICE.sbf to my phone, follow up by, opening the recovery mode and open the G.O.T open recovery's thru the updates.zip as instructed. After that i rooted the phone with the options there. after rebooting my phone and ensure that superuser is already there. i when back to the recovery menu and flashed the fastlightrom v2a, after indicating that it is done, i reboot the system and check the free space in setting it was 164mb or somewhere near there. With this and i went back to the recovery menu and went to the app2sd hack menu and split my sd card, i chosen the 8gb one, which create 1gb ext2 if i am not wrong, after the process is done, i went to install app2sd symlik edition, everything went smoothly and i reboot the phone and check the space again, it had 194mb ( Oh yeah ! ) Does this mean that app2sd had sucessfully installed to my phone?
To ensure that it is, i went ahead and install program like launcherpro, msntalk , and so on. i found out that , my memory had began to drop to 189mb, nevertheless so had sdcard. My Sdcard display a maximum of 6.9xgb of space, which means the sd card split was a sucess right? My worried start here, am i safe to say that the others programs that i am going to install from now on would be install to my sd instead?
I also found out that my current cpu freq was 1000mhz , by using android system info found in the market, i went to download the overclocking widget, i manage to tweak here and there and revert it back to 550mhz, so am i on the safe track that i did not hurt my phone in any way or other?
- Went to the recovery menu and clock it to 650mhz instead. solved?
Any kind soul could enlighten me with some good advices or config? i was temp to install the app2sd provided by dsixda's post when i post my enquire there.
And also, it seem that all my .apk that require root installation when i download them from the internet, i found out that it had become a zip file instead, with this i am unable to install it thru adb install right?
Thanks for taking your time to read this message, please give your advises, Sorry for my bad english.
Solved my doubts thanks.

[FIXED] Password glitched, need help

Hi there guys.
First I just want to explain that I am not new to Android in general, but have almost no knowledge of Samsung models specifically. It seems they work much differently than my xperia, and so I am lost.
Anyway,
My niece has a Rogers captivate, stock 2.3.3 that was password protected. She changed the password to something new, and the phone glitched and won't accept the pass now.
Her password was very simple, only one word, so we know it was the phone and not her mistake. We tried different spellings, even typos just in case. Didn't work.
Basically, now she's locked out. I read on multiple sites the phone would ask for her email (we know those details ofc), but instead it just does a 30 second timer, then allows the pass to be put in again..
I'm trying to find out how to disable the password without wiping the phone. She has a lot of games, and some apps that are no longer in the market. Is it possible to install recovery and use an update zip to replace the file where that setting is stored? Or alternately, would we be able to access adb from recovery and do it that way?
The bottom line is that we need this:
A way that allows her to keep the apps and personal data while removing the password.
Thanks in advance.
UPDATE: I couldn't find info on adb password removal (I saw for pattern unlock but not password), or loading adb through recovery, so instead I did this:
-Flashed a cwm kernel with Odin
-mounted storage through cwm
-backed up everything from sd to my computer
-installed cm7
She is now enjoying cyanogen although her contacts hadn't been set to sync for some reason, so they're all gone. But hey, at least the phone is usable again.

I have factory reset the device 3 times deleted everything, flashed using ODIN but no avail. Any body has any solution for this?
I am using:
Stock ROM XXMEB5
Stock Kernel
Stock Recovery
EDIT: Finally Solved the Problem. The phone was not resetting properly, so for users facing this problem there are 2 possible solutions:
1. Flash stock rom, goto stock recovery and from there wipe data if CWM does not do it properly (In my case CWM did not do it properly)
2. The other solution, the info i figured out was that it had to do something with a folder in Android/Data directory. Try to delete folders one by one to see if this fixes the error
I recently updated OTA to 4.1.2 and have suddenly got this same problem today, im not technically that great so all i did was save the files i wanted to keep and did a factory reset but nothing has changed. I can open my pictures in Smart Gallery Lock Free but im also having the problem that nothing deteles properly, everything i delete re-appears when i re enter Smart Gallery
I have tried removing the files directly from "My Files" but it will only work on the extSdCard not sdcard0 its says deleted but doesnt go anywhere.
I have looked at point 2. but i dont know what i can delete without making things worse
Hope somebody can help
same problem in my SGS II, nothing woks, wipe data reset factory i have done every thing nothing works my only alternativ eis using quickpic app
