Will using a different launcher (Nova) consume more battery? - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering, I don't dislike Sony's launcher but I feel there's too much wasted space and the icons are so big I feel like I have a toy phone.

I have been using Nova (prime) and have not seen any decrease in battery life.

No, nova consumes very little battery so you won't even notice any difference

Nova is king for that AOSP look/feel but more feature rich. Highly recommend over stock... Which is good to be fair but too bold and didn't utilise the homescreen space to the best degree

Any home replacements that are REALLY smooth?

I'm talking iPhone 4 smooth. I played with it today. (No, I'm not a fanboy of either side, but I prefer Android!)
I'm usually using either Sense's Rosie, or when on froyo, LauncherPro.
I am a heavy widget user, and have either full screen or 2-3 widgets per screen.
The feel that you get when you launch an app on iPhone... just feels... like its popping up instead of zooming.
Anything you guys could recommend? Any specific ROM's?
ROM's I have tried:
Desire R22.1
RoDrIgUeZsTyLe
Stock 2.2
Launcher pro, or adw launcher. I personally prefer launcher pro, it also had some really nice extra features.

Also regarding popping up instead of zooming if you are rooted, check out the spare parts app settings for the transition animations. Set them to fast if you wantt apps to pretty much pop instantly.

+1, what you're feeling is not related to the launcher, or the speed of the OS, it's just a design choice about the speed of the transitions. I agree with you so I made the transition speed about 30% faster [try to do that on an iPhone...]
I personally use Launcher Pro. It's absurdly fast. I've tried to get it to lag just to see what it would take but it's super responsive and won't miss a frame even if you want it to. The feature-set of Launcher Pro is quickly approaching that for ADW and it's much more polished.
I find both Launcher Pro and ADW.Launcher to be insanely fast too. I'm not sure about the OP, but if you are using a Live Wallpaper, try it with just a static one, then it is perfectly smooth while scrolling.

My launcherPro lags when I have 2-3 widgets per page. I am using IntersectRaven's kernel, maybe it's that?
In Launcher Pro, set "memory usage" to "high".
HelixLauncher on 2.1 is the smoothest I've found. Unfortunately it doesn't work on 2.2 so I'm using ADW on Froyo.

Least RAM hungry launcher

Over the past month I have used the following launchers, tw launcher, android launcher, and adw.launcher -and adw.launcher is always using half the RAM of the other two
tw launcher ~ 34-35 MB
Android launcher ~29-30 MB
Adw.launcher ~14-15 MB
I was wondering if any of you ruining launcher pro could post how much RAM it is using on your phone and if anyone could confirm what I have found with the other three launchers. Feel free to post any other launchers RAM as well if you want.
LP
My LP is running at 11.6 Mb of ram with absolutly nothing on the screen, i mean no widgets no icons nothing!
Two launchers i would suggest to you are Zeam and Helix, they are both supposed to be low resource!
I use lp and it currently uses 13.4 with many widgets, five screens, there docks
Downloaded zeam for the heck if it and after throwing a few random widgets on it was just under 13
I got rid of tw and android launcher for just this reason....ram hogs
Sent telepathically using vulcan mind meld app.
Thanks for the info. At some point I wil def give lp a look, and probably zeam and helix as well.
While I am not surprised that samsung's tw launcher is resource heavy, I'm a little surprised that android launcher has need of that much more memory then adw or lp, as adw and lp are every bit as functional (even more functional actually).
My LauncherPro with many widgets and icons and custom PNGs is running at 16.7MB and smooth on 2.2 beta.

[Q] light weight launcher

which is best light weight launcher which uses low ram ( yes i want to compromise with the customization) because we all have low ram memory problem plz give suggestion
i think zeem launcher is best than launcher pro
adw launcher is good as well..not laggy atall..
Zeem launcher.
Go launcher ex.it has a good low ram and easy homepages to switch thru (if you have cypress dual touch like me)
sent from my rooted xperia x8 using xda premium
Zeam launcher is the lightest

I suggest LauncherPro. It is fast and smooth and low consumption of RAM.
GO Launcher is also good. But lags when first used and more animations are used, but overall, it is also nice.
A launcher that ismore lighter than zeem launcher, any suggestion guys
I'm using touchwiz 3.0 launcher. it's very light and if system kills it, it loads applications and widgets quickly!
Xperia active launcher.im 100% shure.tried all launchers, and active launcher uses less ram.i never had 85+ of ram free, and when i tried active launcher i got 92 mb of ram free.
launcher pro ftw! very light, very fast, very smooth!!!

Agree with this, I use this and it works great. I've tried LauncherEX etc...
Just ensure it is installed on the phone, I put it on SD card by accident and it launches the stock launcher first then instead of the default as it has to prepare the SD card on start.

[Q] full screen launcher? what do you think

hey guys what do you think about the full screen launcher ????
It looks cool, but for daily usage isn't the best election (without overclock i mean, with overclock should work a bit better but affecting the battery life ).

For me, the best launcher is ADW Launcher EX (isn't free). Go Launcher also is a good launcher.

[Q] Which launcher uses the least battery?

I've been trying different launchers on this Ace I got recently and it's kinda hard for me to really tell which one drains more battery. My experience with Go Launcher EX and Launcher Pro has been pretty good so far, and although I'm leaning more towards Go for the great weather widget, I still don't know which one to stick with battery-usage-wise.
What has been your experience with different launchers in this regard?
I love ADW Launcher EX the most ans it is the only that I purchased other than Titanium Backup Pro...
Respecting others never hurt, let's build a better XDA community.
360 launcher is also good very lightweight and fast doesn't consume much battery also
Holo Launcher, and it just came out from Beta! It's in the store
Zeam is really lightweight, can't imagine it would use much.
The touchwiz launcher isn't bad, its what I'm using on CM7

I guess TW launcher is the lest battery consuming. Zeam launcher is great though. Try Nemus launcher too
im using sony home..u can download it on themes and apps section.. very smooth and has low ram usage

Launcher Pro doesn't seem to drain the battery that much. I've been using Holo Launcher for the last few weeks which is nice & light, it's now available to download from Play Store!!
Holo launcher
Just switched to it
Really smooth and light weight

ADW EX hands down.
Stock launcher
For me, the better launcher would be the stock one. I have tried ADW, EX, Go, etc. Now i'm using LEWA's, its smooth and freaking awesome yet Im battling with my battery which only lasts for 1 1/2 days(MAX). wew!
Zeam is not lightweight. It uses more ram than launcherpro.
Don't associate app size with resource consumption!

i'm not it uses very little ram on my phone according to memory usage app.
---------- Post added at 10:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:48 AM ----------
I installed a lot of popular launchers and got there memory usage:
FTL Launcher = 29MB
Go Launcher EX = 33MB
Zeam Launcher = 23MB
ADW.Launcher = 24MB
Launcher Pro = 34MB
TwLauncher = 24MB
Holo Launcher = 23MB

Zeam and Holo are joint winners for memory usage.
Note: this is for memory usage not battery life, it also depends how much of the CPU launcher is using.
If there is any more launchers you want me to add just say
You must try different launchers and compare ram usage of them. Which launcher is using little ram, that is lightweight and keeps your battery well...

battery life isn't just related to memory usage, but in the previous post i have shown memory usage of various launchers.
Vote for zeam

In my opinion, battery life and stability is related to ram usage. Thank you

Launchr 7 eats cpu + ram. Holo launcher uses only 13mb of my ram which is quite good.
