Hello all,
I just unlocked my bl. On my xt1058, and currently have Safestrap installed when I installed 4.4.2.
I'd like to upgrade to 4.4.4, and root again. My question is, can I simply uninstall Safestrap, then install TWRP recovery? What are the steps to install 4.4.4, then root again.
I tried finding the steps for this, but I was unable to. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Adam
ok...so I uninstalled Safestrap, and installed TWRP v2.8.0.1
I guess what I'd like to do now, is return to stock (currently running rooted 4.4.2) then take the OTA, then root afterwards.
Where can I find the instructions to do this?
Thanks!

Hey guys, so I was on 4.4 and downgraded and managed to get my 4.2.2 rom rooted.
Now I want to upgrade to 4.4, but when I attempt to go into recovery, it just restarts into android.
I attempted to flash a recovery, but it continually failed. Maybe I am doing something wrong when attempting to flash the recovery..
Attached is what I have so far.
I take it that you didn't use the directions in the SlapMyMoto to achieve root

Well originally I used 64 scrip to downgrade to 4.2.2 then used moto x tool kit.
I am currently unrooted on 4.2.2 right now. What is the best way to go about continuing?
when I tried using pwnmymoto it doesn't install..

I am pretty sure I am bootloader locked.
I am now on 4.4 rooted but when I attempted to flash a recovery I'd get a preflash failure.

well that would be why you cant flash TWRP recovery. you can not flash TWRP or Clockwork on a device with a locked bootloader.
the only recovery you can use on a locked bootloader is Safestrap
which can be located here
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/104161-recovery-locked-safestrap-recovery-v365-2013-11-13/
good luck
but i would recommend re-flashing to stock and re-rooting your device so you don't have and issues because you tried to flash a unlocked bootloader recovery on a locked bootloader device
And if you had read, you'd know that selecting "recovery" in the bootloader actually boots Android with write protection off.
Also, this is why I don't like toolkits. Too many people jumping in head first without an inkling of understanding of what's going on with their phone.
Hi Everyone
I have updated my note 3 to the lollipop version found on this thread using Odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/100-stock-lollipop-5-0-n900aucueoc1-t3069609
I'm now totally lost as to how i would go about rooting so that i can either flash a custom rom, or remove bloatware etc. I have rooted several devices before, but all the different note 3 models is whats got me lost and frustrated. My goal is to have safestrap (or something similar) installed, along with a recovery of some sort (cwm etc)
Does anyone have some clear and concise instructions as to how to root this device and flash rom's afterwards
Thanks for any help i get guys, sorry to be a pain

Odin back to NC2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54803130&postcount=136 Then root it, install Busybox and Safstrap. If you want Rooted Lollipop still "OC1 Stock Rooted Very Easy Procedure" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59666958&postcount=2 Safestrap is your only recovery, no CWM or TWRP it's an AT&T phone so the Bootloader is locked.
Thanks for reply

and then follow the tutorial here for safestrap: http://galaxynote3root.com/galaxy-n...-custom-rom-using-safestrap-on-galaxy-note-3/
and then get rooted lollipop here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59666958&postcount=2

Hello all,
Im totally confused as to how to go about rooting my device c6902. Ive owned a couple of android devices and Ive rooted them all, however....with this device and there seem to be different ways people have rooted from reading the threads and im totally confused, So far I have unlocked the bootloader, and upgraded the device OTA to lollipop .242 (before the bootloader was unlocked), I dont intend installing any custom firmware, just want root so I can use TB and maybe delete a few bloatwares with root explorer and use xposed.
Im confused as to whether:
1. I have to downgrade firmware to kitkat, just to get root, then upgrade back to official firmware?
2. Ive been under the impression that a custom recovery and supersu, is enough to get root. It doesnt work that way on this device?
3. I saw some oneclick root programs that worked on the z1 compact would any work here
Just trying to know more about the phone and understand, so any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Using the guide on the link I just posted, you are not required to unlock the bootloader, unlocking the bootloader without backing up the TA partition can cause problems with your phone.
You need to downgrade to KitKat 4.4.4 with kernel 108, then root it with easyroot install supersu and rootchecker to make sure your phone is rooted, the use NUTs recovery to create a recovery partition, after that search XDA forums for a pre-rooted lollipop flashable zip and install that, and voila you should be on lollipop with root and recovery.
I am not sure about one-click root programs.

Hey all,
I've been receiving notifications for the OTA for a few days now, and I certainly would like to update my Moto X. That being said, OTA fails since I have a rooted device, go figure.
Anyways, my plan of action is to back uo everything, unroot using SuperSU, apply the update (still on stock recovery), and then re-root on the other side.
Has anyone gone about this route yet? Does this all sound like it should work? Also, it's been a while since I've modded my X, so any new rooting methods for 5.1 that people have tried and succeeded with?

Not only do you need to unroot, you have to undo any modifications you made with root. As long as you can do that the update will work.
If you can't get it back to unmodified, you will have to flash a stock system image.
As far as root, the process is the same for 4.4.4, 5.0, and 5.1. Just boot into twrp and let it root it for you, or flash supersu zip. Very easy.

I originally rooted 5.0. To get the OTA I had to unroot and reflash the stock recovery. After that the OTA applied fine.
The main reason I rooted was for Greenify. I'm now unrooted on 5.1 and my battery sucks. I want to think that Greenify actually works so I would like to root 5.1. As mentioned I have rooted before but am still very much a novice. You state "Just boot into twrp and let it root it for you". I think I have saw in the forums that if I boot into twrp it will actually leave the stock recovery? I really don't want to do anything except root so that I can install Greenify again. I want to make as easy as possible to take the next OTA. If booting into twrp will allow this, is there a link to a simple process? There is so much information out there and most of it is dated so it scares me that it might not work on 5.1. Thanks.

Yes, if you just boot it, the stock recovery stays on the phone. No need to flash TWRP. Download version 2.8.5.0! The newer versions don't boot, the new ones can only be flashed. With 2.8.5.0 type:
fastboot boot twrpfilenamehere.img
Then you will be in twrp and can root.

Sorry about the late reply, thanks! I still have my stock recovery, and have been pretty lazy about installing busy box or xposed or any other fun things. I'll probably muster up the courage this week. After all, I've killed and resurrected this thing once before

Hello, I have a ATT Note 3 Android 4.4.4 , (baseband version N900AUCUDNL1), (Kernel 3.4.0-3032228). I followed the directions of each rooting method. I have ran Kingo root method and ran Odin v.309 and v.3.10 root method several times and both these rooting methods have FAILED. Can anyone please help and advise me on how to root and install a recovery on this device. I appreciate any help.
I'm not 100% sure but I believe you need to be on NC2 in order to root.

Towleroot doesn't work on 4.4.4 you need to back date to 4.4.2 kk then towleroot will work install busybox and j. Rummy root checker, safestrap 3.75 install ST mind you it will say not active until you install a custom rom in one of the slots I believe you can just activate slot one without installing a rom and it'll put safestrap in a active State. Droidveiws is a good place to get the 4.4.2 firmware get the AP BL CP files the install via doing 3.09 it's simple. Me personally I like kk better than lollipop.
