We were expecting a battery life that was largely identical to its predecessor, but that's not at all the case -- the Note 4 clocked the impressive 8 hours and 43 minutes in our custom battery life test, which is a significant improvement over the 6 hours and 8 minutes the Note 3 managed a year or so ago.

As we know Anandtech published Nexus 4 benchmarks which show the phone underperforming significantly compared to its sister Optimus G. It appears they have since re-run the GLBenchmark tests and achieved much higher scores (in-line with the Optimus G) which they have not yet published.
You can analyse the full results here:
http://www.glbenchmark.com/phonedetails.jsp?benchmark=glpro25&D=Google+Nexus+4&testgroup=overall
Here is a brief summary of the main differences. They are very significant and the phone appears to perform as expected.

With these new results here is how the phone would stack up against their published results for other models for the common Egypt HD Offscreen test:

I agree, hopefully whatever changed to get these better results also will result in better battery life too.
Can't wait to hear what went wrong with the original results, and if the thermal throttling is going to become an issue.
Come on anandtech release an explanation already!!!

+1
Although the new test suggests that the thermal throttling issues have ceased - meaning the CPU usage is more efficient and this should translate into big gains for battery life - I would like to see this confirmed.
Would shut a number of people up.
This is some really good news... Now I REALLY can't wait 'til the 13th.

They posted the new results on GLBenchmark's site, assumedly they will be included in the full review of the Nexus 4.

That assumption could've been incorrect though as they are not a copy paste phone, definitely copy/paste hardware, but in theory the design could've been altered enough to be fatal for the thermals.
I was more going after the way they actually failed to properly document it.
For those of you who like me were wondering why these results were attributed to anand :
Click on the blue link for the test in question and it will bring up a list of logged tests. If you look on the right some are linked to anandtech's own GLBenchmark account.

Assuming he didn't run those benchmarks with the Nexus 4 stuck in a freezer, that's really good news indeed. Hope the battery life will also see an improvement to get on par with Optimus G.

Wasn't there before the edit.
Anyway, thanks OP. Good to know that the n4 is performing up to spec.
just wow!
What is interesting are Benchmarks Anandtech released were done on November first, a day before this preview they released on the second, and some numbers match and others are vastly different. I am curious as to why this review was posted when it would seem obvious that something else was at issue and numbers from their own run the day before are skewed.

From what I can tell the Note 4 is not equipped with humidity and temperature sensors anymore - unlike the Note 3.

I was also quite disappointed to find the that temp. and humidity sensors had been omitted. I used to have widgets on my Note 3 homescreen that displayed each (updating at a 10 minute interval IIRC). My first thought after confirming that I wasn't just missing something: "What the...? Now how am I supposed to keep the humidity situation inside my pockets under control?!" ...:silly:
For real though, I did find those sensors to be quite useful... when I left phone on a table inside my apartment for a bit. Particularly humidity, which I do try to make sure is between 40-60% (for the sake/longevity of the computer components & electronics that my place is pretty much filled with )
I see that it's on my Note 4 as well...thanks. How is anyone not seeing that both sensors are included?

Hey man. Just wanted to say thanks for the videos. Been salivating over a smartwatch for a while and the LG G Watch R looks like the one for me. Any chance you can update after a week or so, to let us know what it's like to live with?
Thanks again!
@idle0095, a quick question... Does the lack of gps bother if you have it paired with a gps compatible phone? Just to know if I can navigate using the watch together with my phone.
Where did you buy? If on eBay, which seller and how much and how long did it take to ship and arrive?
More videos?
Does anyone know of a Google Cardboard kit or template that would work with the Nexus 6? I read that the template from Google is too small for it and the bigger versions you can buy online are too small for it as well, and that they both cause a double vision effect. Does anyone know of any form Google Cardboard that would work, or can someone make a template that would work with the Nexus 6?

The first link is confirmed not to work with the Nexus 6, it causes a double vision. The second link is supposed to work but unfortunately I live in Canada and it doesn't ship to me and I can't find a similar thing on Amazon.ca

Just wanna report that I bought the large one from Unofficial Cardboard and it work well with our phone.
I don't have enough posts to post links but "Google iamcardbord Nexus 6". It's a little pricey and it's still in the pre-order phase until the 22nd but it's made for the Nexus 6 and I'm kind of obsessed with VR so...

Check out the Knoxlabs cardboard for Nexus 6
It looks better than the ImCardboard one because the lenses are actually wider so that you have a bigger FOV with the bigger phones

Sigh. Owned once again!
Just received my iamcardboard-- Nexus 6 version. Don't know if they are using the same lenses they use in their smaller kits, but the field of view is pretty weak and there certainly is double vision in many cases. The phone fits well enough, but I'm going to have to do some fiddling to see if I can get any better results.
will try that knoxlab one.
I have never heard of this. What exactly does it do?

Um, Google it?
Serious note, there are a few VR apps in the play store now, its just a cheap entry level into exploring Virtual Reality. I'm going to give it a crack when I can find a Nexus 6 version that doesn't cause double vision. And one cheap enough for delivery to the UK.

Sir, I have been here long enough to know to search before asking a question. I have also noticed that some people French braid the hair across their gluteus when people ask questions without searching first.
That being said, my ex me taught me well... :silly:
No worries, it's all good. No harm no foul. Be cool, be safe. :good:

I am not so sure about that. I checked a few of the seller's products and all of H8P accessories have long delivery time but for others like OP5 it is much shorter. Most likely they don't have the product yet and are importing.

Yeah it won't and it is also a soft case. The seller is now increasing the price - first time by 10, and now again by 10 to 189.
