phone gets crazy hot at the top - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it normal for the phone to get this hot during games? It also heats my battery, I was able to get 44°C after playing for 5min under sunlight.
How's the heat compared to the nexus 5?

Also the cpu goes up to 60ºC... This shouldn't happen with snap 400... (it only uses 4 A7 cores at 1.2Ghz)

LOL, why did you think that I play when the phone's charging. I don't.

My mistake! Kkkkk

my device is getting hot on the top too, even more when i play asphalt 8 (with low graphics). One time did get 45°, i ran and put it on the freezer :laugh:
I hope that is something that will fix with android L

I don't game much, but my phone's temperature is usually around 33-40 with lots of applications running. However, while charging it is always at 38+ mark.

Sounds about the same as my Nexus 5. That area where it gets especially warm is where the CPU, GPU, and RAM are all sandwiched together.
BTW everyone is reporting their battery temperatures. That's all you will see on the phone without root and specific apps.

Liquid is too hot?

I mean really hot! Normal usage is ok but when I play games or use web browser for half an hour, it turns hot (back and front, lower body). Does anyone have the same problem?
Another thing is the charging time is too long!
Here are the answers from other forum:
Yes the liquid tends to warm up at the lower back half and once that happens, theres no way you can recharge it till it cools down. Feedback from acer engineers theres a temp sensor right behind the battery and if the temp goes above 40c...it'll stop charging. I think that maybe is one of the reason Acer didnt really launch this model worldwide?

Phones with Snapdragon chips in them get warm. The Desire does it; the Nexus does it. I wouldn't worry. My nexus takes about two hours to charger to full.

I have the same problem, its very hot, im worried for the health of cpu and battery..
At least for the charging troubles, using setcpu I defined to run at 500 (around) MHZ when on charge and no overheating then, plugged from evening till morning or using gps for 2,30 hrs with charge connected. It stills warm but no overheating... Tips from EvIl rom, not mine
The lower part is where the CPU is, battery heat would be from the upper back part. Also computer USB charging is slower than wall socket charging.

How hot does your N1 get?

So far my record is 108*F and thats browsing the web, on a bluetooth call for 58mins, music and talking on aim. After typing up this thread my phone went down to 106.3*F. I realize this cannot be good for the phone but just wondering how high these temperatures can get? So I'm curious, just how hot does your nexus one get? whats your record..

ShootMe app from market.
There was a thread like this earlier...but my record (heh) is 51 celsius. Which is a little above 113 fahrenheit. It's really kinda scary when it gets that hot...
I don't think the phone gets damaged until it gets quite a bit hotter. However, it does significantly reduce your battery life if you continually use it at that temperature.
With a charging profile on set CPU, the hottest my phone ever gets is if im lying in bed browsing while playing music via wifi, and hiding under the covers (so like 30C ambient xD). Even then apparrently battery doesnt peak above 35.
I notice its mainly the 3g radio that gets hot.
What app is that battery thing?
Mine's been as high as 117F while charging and playing music over 3G, texting, browsing, etc.
my ph
my phone got REALLY hot
It was on the car doc on cyanogens 5.0.6 Rom
my phone always ran hot on his Roms for some reason but
I was driving using gps and talking on the phone for 45mins on the call and using gps for 2 hours and when i got there my phone was 122 F and the set cpu app lowered my cpu
after that i called google and they told me that's not good and they don't know if it should get that hot and there find out and let me know
well after i changed to a different rom i never had that problem ever again
P.S my phone always runs around 100F on the doc when using gps and calling people but i open the window to get some air on it and i have never had any problems since
it was his Rom i know that sounds crazy but it was
but it wont F your phone up because mine is perfect
My phone runs a lot hotter then im comfortable with, and the battery app in the OP is called "Battery Indicator".

The battery. Everyone should get a spare battery for the N1 lol Once the webstore closes down you might find the battery in a retail outlet for...oh I don't know...but certainly more than $25.

seriously..try frying an egg on it lol.......
The highest I've hit was while watching a 2 hour documentary on Google Video, and the temperature peaked at 45C. My idle temp seems to be 25-28, and light usage puts it no higher than 32 degrees.
Wish I had checked the temps when I was finished driving 30 miles today using bluetooth, in car dock charging, with GPS, and running data and making a few calls...it still wasn't THAT warm, though.
On a semi-related note, the hottest I've seen my GPU in my computer get is 115 C. Just an amusing thing I remembered upon reading this thread.

Nononononono, the phone is hitting ~ 110+ Fahrenheit, which is hot enough to be uncomfortably warm. The GPU hit >110 Celcius...which is more than hot enough to boil water.

Will your ONE get warm somtimes?

I just get the one for 2days. I feel from time to time it will get warm.
When using internet by 3G it will from 32℃ to 38℃. Sometimes use camera for 2 minutes just it will to 40℃. I use Gsam battery monitor to watch temperature.
During stanby time it is normally 29-32℃. And it is very quick to cool down even it is warm. But I still want to know how others phone is.
Maybe I shall ask for a replacement.
perfectly normal, you will waste our time replacing it, these temps are normal on quad core phones so get used to it
the good use the metallic back cover will help release the heat quickly
Really ? You are the expert on this. so it works for yours?

and yes those temps are perfectly within the normal operational range, in fact better than the HTC One X
dont replace otherwise you might end up with worth units, its a fact of life
this is what i reported in my review
The HTC One metal back plate did get warm, but never hot, it was clearly getting warm but quickly dissipating the heat

And for GS4 it is strange I went to shop to play the demo module which is always in charger, but I really can not feel the hot in back.

Nexus 6 Heating

Okay, so just received my nexus 6 yesterday. it seems to get pretty warm while charging and playing simple games like crossy roads for around 10, the battery temperature goes to 42-4 degrees celcius. and while charging it also goes to around 41-42.
could this be due to the fact that this is a new phone and the phone is taking time to do its starting operations. will this problem eventully go away. i also updated to android 5.1
Hope i get a solve for this.
The app i use to monitor this is CPU Temp(also includes battery temp).

On the Turbo charger the first two step of the whole charge cycle are at a higher power 14.4W each the last is only 8W. More power more heat dissipation-especially if your using data and your processor is working hard, then it can get really hot. Toward the end if the change cycle it is considerably cooler-especially is your not doing anything in the phone.
Edit: I forgot in use the CPU can ramp up and get hot/warm(depending on how heavy the use(some "simple" games may have more running in background perhaps-like ads and such) but is pretty normal) but even more so if your on WiFi or data too.
Any phone gets hot while playing games and charging at the same time... The nexus 6 is actually pretty good with its heat compared to other Nexus phones.

Bro i wasnt charging and playing at the same time. When charging i keep the phone aside. Then it gets hot. Even while playing 10 mims of candy crush it gets upto 42 degrees celcius of the battery.
I had heat issues at first. I'm assuming all the app restoring I was doing was the culprit. I did decrypt my phone the very next day and it runs pretty cool

Phone overheating issues

HAS ANYONE NOTICED OVERHEATING OF PHONE MOSTLY WHILE CHARGING, GAMING (should expect some heat not this much). I play PUBG on smooth basic plus extreme with no AA and gfx lower settings. Still phone heats up. FAN seems to be a marketing gimmick too. Circulation of air is v poor.
My question is can this be fixed via twrp custom rom tweaks. I'm willing to experiment.
Excuse me. Are you one of those geniuses who charges his phone while gaming?

I think nubia have fake temp status.
Or is that a bug i don't know
When i turn the fan on at max speed. Temp increased. Things like that happen. Or when i come back to auto from performance mode. Tem goes up.
Which is weird. Makes me believe that all this temp and gpu turbo and fan is a gimmick.
Air temp is 26 deg Celsius.

How do you measure the temperature? Was it a temperature of the CPU or the battery?
If your sentiment is not a user error or a fluke, then your unit is defective. Here's what one of the most prolific Youtube reviewers said about the fan - "it was keeping my phone 8 degrees cooler than my Samsung." I assume 8C, not Fahrenheit, because the reviewer is from UK.

Plus the phone feels hot in hand. Not 8 degrees cooler. And Hunan hand can easily feel 8 degrees change in temp over 5-10 minutes

Instead of admitting that you were sold a defective unit and exchanging it for a working one, you think there's a conspiracy that involves the Nubia corporation and "paid youtubers."
But hey, I'm thinking this guy is not a psychopath. Maybe it's just a user erorr.
Maybe he thinks that having a fan in the phone should make the phone feel cool to touch during gaming.
Maybe he simply doesn't understand that the fan may be lowering the temperature from 55C to 47C, and that 47C will still feel hot to the hand.
Hey guy,
Can you actually provide real world numbers with screenshots?
No one has experienced anything like this before, so either your phone is defective or you have a nervous breakdown.
Yes, the phone overheats while charging but if you switch on the gaming mode to check heat also in certain Celsius comes down gradually and quickly in my case. So fans not a fake gimmick. Also when you are playing games heat is normal for heavy graphic 3d rendering titles like pubg, fortnight I play pubg with extreme HD and it heats but the fan keeps decreasing the heat. My suggestion is to charge where there is air free flow of air like a fan, AC, or cooler to keep ambient temp in control.

Yes
That is understandable, but then what is the fun of a fan gimmick when you need additional external air circulation with AC.
Even with clash of clans. Not much demanding game phone heats up. Plus additional charging while playing the temp increases continuously.
Circulation of heat and cooling inside the phone is poor. I'm starting to wonder if the battery has nay issues of heat while charging.

You are the one who's playing games while charging the phone, something that should not be done to a cellphone battery especially with 26C ambient air.
You realize that by charging and playing you are heating up the battery and the cpu at the same time and that's really going to cut battery's life real quick?

Apologies for the mess. Was relyed on Google voice without proof reading. I have edited now.
I'm not suggest to plug in a charger while gaming, it will make the phone hot, especially when you using the original fast charger. Anoher thing is you hae to know you can't get a high performance with the low temperature, if you get a very hot phone, the cpu will running in a low clock speed. The RM3 can get highest score on Antutu so I think the fan is doing something.
