strange behavior of the ram after using the camera - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i noticied a strange behavior of the ram after using the camera, now I'll be more clear.
if you start the phone and you see how much free ram do you have after the boot (and after the load of all the apps) you have a certain amount of memory (for example I've 400-420MB free)
then if you open the camera and you close it (also killing the app with a task manager) you'll have less free ram, in my case about 80MB so about 310-320 free memory and to release that amount you have to reboot.
there is a big difference to work with 420 MB to 310 MB, the phone is less responsive and some apps take more time to start.
i'm the only that noticied this issue?

I checked this and guess i also lost 80mb even I kill camera app.[emoji46] [emoji47]

that's not normal, 80MB are a lot! if I don't open the camera app the phone it's smoother, when i open it changes a lot
what could we do?

I try to change camera app but after using Google camera same ram problem happen

i know...i also tried camera fx and the problem is still there...
same problem if you open the whatsapp camera to take a selfie or a photo with the rear camera.

It is just the way android works; applications stay in memory so android can recall them any time. It takes much less cpu power to just load process from ram than to reload the whole application again. Android does not benefit from empty ram.

so you think it's normal that if i close the camera with a task killer she continue to occupy the ram?

video recording

is there an app that will let you record wile not having the camera opened like record video and then while recording open another app like to txt or something like that
AFAIK, once the UI is minimized, it stops recording.
That's a tricky one... Sometimes it will kill background processes alltogether when you turn on the camera app... It does use alot of resources. I wouldn't advise it resource-wise... Chances are you camera app is slow enough already without bogging it down apps and programs on top of it.

Video recording issues

Hi guys! At the moment i'm using PrimeHD as my ROM and it's awesome. However, i noticed that when i try to record videos using my phone's camera, i experienced lags for some reason and that was in the middle of the recording process. As a result, i was able to record but some parts are lagging where the video goes choppy a little bit but the audio was doing fine. Any thoughts on what tweaks or fixes should i use in order to avoid these types of issues from happening again in the near future? Thanks to those who would be willing to help.

Try using a third party application and see if the problem persists.
i'm also running PrimeHD, and i belive that your problem is because maybe you are running too much background applications, and therefore you have small amount of free RAM availible.
Try to record some video right after you reboot your phone (or after you've shuted down some unnecessary processes). I've took some videos at highest quality availible (2-5 min on stock camera in PrimeHD), and i have expirienced no such thing as lags.
thanks. i'll try that. i think i need to trim down the system apps that i don't really use if that might help. what system apps do you think can i uninstall for now in order to save more RAM than the usual? just to be sure that i'd be able to record videos with ease.
Supercharger help you i have 60-80 mb allways free

[Q] why stock Album Galley of Android is too weak and simple ?

hi , i really confused why the album photo gallery of android 4.1 or 4.3 is too basic and have not any setting or advance option !!
i cant sort picture by Date or Folder , there is no tab for separate Video and image
i can use Quickpic but it really question for me why Android developers design Album Gallery Like this !!
Simply bcs most users care more for eye candy and lesser for an efficient photo gallery. I mean as long as there are alternatives, why should I complain? I don't depend on my album carrying a Sony logo.
For a 2 weeks journey to China I was given a local Iphone. My world was shattered, I am still devastated how this can be the god that people queue up for @ 4am before the shop opens.
thanks for reply .
you know it`s strange for me more than be have complain
yes of course we can use alternative gallery apps like Quick pic . they fast and with a lot of options and Facilities
but they use a space and Rams . also They add Additional switch ( icon) when we want to select a pic or video

To my opinion QuickPic is a full replacement, and it needs only 1/8 of the space. Certainly you do need root to reclaim the space. The integration with Android not as perfect as Album, but is good enough, IMO.
There is also the ICS Gallery but it does not necessarily mean better functions.
I as well don't like the current drive to oversimplify and cripple things to such an extend, that they actually get difficult to manage.

QuickPic hardly uses RAM, is a lot faster, a lot more versatility and options, and if you're really worried about having to press an extra button to open a picture, next time you select a picture or video to be opened, just choose QuickPic (or any other app of your choosing) as default and forget about it.
I'd imagine a stock app doesn't have the full attention of a developer if the same developer is working on the ROM, which is why developers that focus on only one thing or app generally have a better functioning app, such as QuickPic, for instance.

With AT's help you may take a look at Albums's details such as Activities, Providers, Receivers, and Services. That may explain where a lot of the attention lies.
I'd also use another camera app. The Sony camera can be on by 3.parties without user knowledge. I am using Open Camera. It's a lot like Album vs. QuickPic.

Camera mode lag, normal?

Hello,
When I use creative effect mode with my Z3C I see a lot of lags on the screen when I move the phone (like... you know... when you make a video...). I thought it was normal and just on the screen but with normal final result. But when I record a video with creative effect, I see lags on the screen BUT also in the final video when I watch it.
Am I alone?
Thanks!
EDIT: NO I don't have Stamina mode
I've never tried video recording with creative effects, but it doesn't surprise me. Most of the creative effects seem to stress the processor and some have even experienced the camera app shutting down to prevent over-heating.
Too bad, I can't make "real" video with effect, always lags in some parts.
try clearing out all apps and running programs before recording one of the videos. have all processing power available.
OK thank you

I should not have to do that on a 2014-15 flagship. Just to be able to use all the features.... I'd accept it for 4yo phone if you want to use the latest softwares, but a new one? Completely unacceptable.
actually..you SHOULD have to do that. A cpu intensive task needs all power available.
also the videos with these effects on dont get the best frame rates to begin with. theyre for entertainment purposes, not to film a super bowl commercial
Camera become laggy when free ram get under 300mb, I fix it with rooting then use greenify to manage ram.. Smooth camera and fluid multitasking

Gallery app slow to load pics? Anybody else?

Everytime I load up samsung stock gallery app slow to load. I do have a lot of pictures, but still shouldn't be this slow. Anyone else having slow load times with gallery?
My gallery does not load thumbnails instantaneously, but I would say 1~2 seconds , my whole gallery data weighs almost 40 GB

Crap I got like 1/4th of pics that you got and takes 5-10 seconds. Guess it's best to stick to albums. Could also try 3rd party gallery app.
By the way, all my media is stored in the sd card, an A-Data 64Gb class 10

Same here. At first I thought it was Substratum , but its slow to load my thumbnails now. They remain grey for a good few seconds until they populate. Started about 2 weeks ago for me.

Going try 3rd party gallery apps. Stock always lacks features anyhow.
Quickpic
And disable all the stock gallery special cloud features
Working fine for me & never had slow loading issues. Not instantaneous on albums that have lots of pics but thumbnails load pretty quick as I scroll through them. I only use album view though. But my gallery size is only just over 10 GB, everything stored in my SD card as well. I've got cloud services disabled fully on my phone. Image analysis, stories, & customization service all disabled as well.
