Choppy Front Facing Camera - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've had an odd issue with my 2nd gen Moto X (AT&T version). While the rear facing camera is fine, the front facing camera is very choppy. I received a sensor update shortly after getting the phone and it initially fixed the issue but last night I saw it was back again. Any ideas what I can do to fix it? I have the issue with both the Moto Camera app AND the Google Camera app.
Thanks in advance....

You can't fix it, every Moto X is having the issue, not just you. Wait for more updates I guess. It will only be smooth in very good lighting condition.

There is already a thread for this, I believe a rep has responded and said it is in the works for being fixed.

[Front Camera] bugged after the 4.3 upgrade

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone else expect similar or same issue as I do.
I recently updated to 4.3 soft No: 3.62.401.1
Today I was in need of using the front facing camera and when i switched from main camera ( which works perfectly fine) the front camera shows purple'ish lines from top to bottom in horizontal view, they are all over the screen and I can just about make out some shapes behind them.
Front camera functions work and I did test the camera when i got the phone and it was working perfectly fine as well.
I havent drop the phone nor hit it with anything, there are no viable marks on the front camera as well.
I wonder if this is due to software or not ?
Anyone could shed some light on this issue ?
Many Thanks
Kind Regards
I don't have that issue, but I swear since updating to 4.3 the Front facing camera has ****tier resolution or something, waaay more noise going on even in the brightest light - whereas before it was crisp and sharp. Hangouts video calls now look like **** too..
tnx mate
well I'm now thinking if I should get my phone replaced, I got extended warranty on it with insurance so I could get it fixed/replaced in no time.
Still wondering if this not a software issue or not.
I forgot to mention that I have a carrier free version with sim unlocked in factory.
I really think they messed up the FFC by trying to "software fix" their purple tint issue on the back cam
Something they did to the way the software runs the cameras screwed up the clarity and created new issues. That's my guess

Stock Moto X Camera focus issues

Anybody has managed to repair a moto X with camera focussing issues. My camera seems stuck in Macro mode, I can take pictures very sharp at 40cm, but out of focus from 1m onwards. This suddenly happened, not related to any update or app change. Camera does not focus in other camera apps either. As I live in Belgium and ordered the phone through a friend in the US, garantee is not that easy. Front facing camera works fine.

Super shaky Gyroscope. Is there any fix for this? Somebody can confirm this issue?

Hello, I recently bought the "Google Cardboard" and I noticed that all apps I tried were shaking a lot (Even if I just leave the phone on the table). It seems to be an Gyroscope issue.
Noticed the same in Google Camera (360ยบ Picture Mode). It doesn't happen in Google Street View as it seems to apply some kind of filtering. Is there any fix for this?
I've been told that the Samsung Phones doesn't suffer from that kind of shaking
Is there any way to calibrate the Gyroscope? Or at least to apply some kind of shaking filter globally to all apps?
Can somebody please confirm if they have the same issue (And if this issue has been fixed on Android L)? [I'm on Android KitKat]
Greetings.

I have the same problem.
Interface of Google cardboard is very shaky.
Google camera's lens blur doesn't work for me; it says device moved too quickly whereas i didn't even move it a cm. (Kitkat)
Everyone should have this problem I think so.
I think the gyroscope is not calibrated correctly

Fixed? Where? In Android Lolipop?
I have Moto G 2014 European version so I still haven't received the Update.
Or is there some other fix? I'm very interested in this.
Okay that message was because a thought this was solved. Anyways it works on lollipop very well. Its very steady but if i try to hold steady it shakes a little. On KitKat my gyroscope reacted very sensitive (slightest movement even registers) So my suggestion is maybe use lollipop? or try this app: A thread about how to recalibrate the gyroscope sensor
Anways hope it works wish you much lucky

I am using lollipop on my moto g 2014, and videos are still shaky!

I'm having the same problem. Mine was working, but I flashed a new ROM and it stopped. I deleted that ROM and went back to stock, but the problem is still there.
When I start moving left, the phone thinks I'm moving right and vice-versa. It hardly detects any movement, even if I do a full 360 rotation.
I am also unable to view VR photos in Google Cardboard correctly. This is really frustrating and I have no idea how to fix it.
Have you had any luck?
I found the same, infuriating problem in all the ROMs I tried.
I read in another thread (possibly another forum, I can't remember now) a post from a Moto dev who acknowledged the issue and stated they would fix it in the next update. I installed the latest 6.0 soak test and the first thing I checked was the gyro, which appears to have been fixed.
Google cardboard runs as smooth as butter, with no shaking or anything.
In CM13 devs have fixed the sensors also added some new ones.
gyroscope is working correctly on CM13 too

Rear camera doesn't work. 5.1 no root.

My rear camera was working last night and this afternoon it(Motorola Stock Camera) suddenly started telling me to restart the camera while Google Camera says that it can't connect to the camera. It's weird because I haven't dropped or treated the phone roughly lately and there haven't been any updates that would effect it.
Since the problem started I've done multiple restarts and completely wiped the device. The problem continues to persist. By experimenting with other camera apps I was able to figure out that the front facing camera still works fine. I'm worried that it is a hardware issue.
Mine just went out today. Mine happens to be an Asurion refurb. Anyone have any insight to this problem?

Hi Joiner22,
I had the same problem with my phone (ZUI 2.0.048 ST, Android 6.0.1).
Since I upgraded to (ZUI 2.5.355 ST, Android 7.0) the problem was solved

I did a test with the newest stock and custom rom. But the problem persists.
I have this problem since at least a year and it seems to be a really common issue with the Zuk Z2 Pro.
It has something to do with the autofocus component, so it is primarily a hardware issue. The only workaround I have, is, to shake the phone when the camera app is open, so it tries to refocus. (while shaking it might be possible that you here some loose parts in the camera)
Hope that helps and yes it is really annoying.

Yes, it was exactly like that but as I said, after upgrading one week ago to ZUI 2.5.355 ST, this problem was solved. If it comes back, I will say something
I changed the rom and it did not work. I had to buy a new camera module on AliExpress.
